Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

--[X] We begin to form a story about a world wherein a person is born with an affinity to 'something'. This 'something' can be anything, ranging from cooking to swordplay, writing to ditchdigging. It is never obvious what that 'something' is until you have actually done the action itself. The story focuses on a young/mid 20s adult who has yet to find what their niche is, and explores them as they try to figure it out, faking already having it in order to continue being a part of their community.

All of these people O'Brian is working with keep dying. RIP, Mr. Metcalfe.

Burt Metcalfe, Producer on Every Season of ‘M*A*S*H,’ Dies at 87

After acting in 'Gidget,' 'The Twilight Zone' and 'Father of the Bride,' the 13-time Emmy nominee spent all 11 seasons on the legendary CBS comedy.
Burt Metcalfe, the onetime actor from Canada who served as a producer, director and writer on all 11 seasons of M*A*S*H, collecting 13 Emmy nominations along the way, has died. He was 87.

...

Metcalfe was a producer on all but five of M*A*S*H's 256 episodes from 1972-83 and its showrunner for its last six seasons. He also directed 31 installments of the acclaimed CBS comedy, wrote three and acted in one.

Seven of his Emmy noms came for outstanding comedy series; incredibly, he never won once.

So I saw that, and it got me thinking it could be a really cool movie premise, 1v1 fights, 33 matches in total. each fight gets progressivly much harder (statistically twice as hard as the last one).

The purpose of the fights are to find the best human, they could have been orchasted by aliens, high power of some sort or another bullshit we will make, it doesn't truly matter... But the fights are some kind of simulation, the consequences are not real.

The fights are not just regualr combat between people, each round is unique and test different aspect of humanity. The first round can be a fight to the death using nothing except your own body, another could be a "fight" of leadership where each contestent is given a similar group of people to lead, another round is about money, intellecth, social capebility, etc.

That sounds fucking awesome and we should totally invest an action into making it a film next turn.
It does make you wonder. Who IS the strongest human right now?
In what category?

That is... difficult. But i will give two examples of some of the people that might last the first round in either of their respective fields

Carlos Norman Hathcock, one of the greatest snipers alive in this era, is considered a brilliant marksman with a rifle, highly trained, and one of the best snipers the US military has ever produced. Though he is a sniper, he is a highly trained soldier who can do well in many combat situations. Except maybe a quick draw pistols at high noon.

Then there is Muhammad Ali whom I believe will need no introduction. The greatest Heavyweight boxer of all time.

Not sure for guns, there are probably some seriously dangerous quick draws out there that I don't know about. But Simo Hayha is someone worth discussing. They called him the White Death and he may very well have killed more enemy soldiers than any other sniper has ever done, before or since.

As for fists, I nominate Danny Hodge, who was one this country's very best athletes. During his time as collegiate wrestler, he was never taken off of his feet and was undefeated at 46-0. He would go on to win numerous national championships for Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling. He was also a Heavyweight Golden Gloves winner.

My favorite stories are of his phenomenal grip strength. The man could legitimately crush an apple just by squeezing it with one hand. If that ain't fucking nuts, he could also break a pair of pliers doing the same thing.

It was not the best meeting at the first script read, and you most certainly not expected it. There were so many older faces looking at the fresh-faced kid that was clearly intimidated by everyone that seemed to be glaring at you.

So much so that you slipped well into a Dublin accent, to try and think of ways to introduce yourself. In fact, it made everyone think you were going to be just a UN peacekeeper character. Someone to fill in the background and otherwise make things look neat and organized.

Then the producers told you about the role you had. And a few of the other actors reacted... strongly.

"A Kid is playing this part?" Wayne Rogers, who you learned was going to play Trapper, spoke, disdain in his voice as he seemed to lean away, and look at the producers with eyes. "What about Gary, he was tapped to play it?" He asked.

Larry came to your defense. "Mr. Burghoff had scheduling conflicts that meant he was unable to commit to this show Mr. Rogers?"

"And you brought on a kid instead?" He asked.

You smiled. "Well I impressed Larry and he thought I fit." You replied.

That made Alan Alda, the man playing Hawkeye, nod, in your defense, and look at Wayne. "Well, things change in this business, and everyone has things they need to do, contract or not. And the kid may look young, but I think he might be good. He read his lines well and the Irish accent is a nice touch."

You found yourself smiling. "Just wait till he's on camera, and then we'll see how good he is."

Loretta had shaken your hand earlier, but she was decidedly neutral. "Well, it would be nice if we could all get along on set before we decide to quit."

Well, that was that.

The Cast members you would be finding yourself with would be well enough.

Though Wayne does not like you. At all, and seems to think you are just a dumb kid that somehow got the role due to blind luck and nepotism.

Reward: Most of the Cast is indifferent to you, though Alan seems to like you well enough and Loretta at least thinks you have talent.

Wayne however, seems to hate your ever-living guts, not only for being a kid but also for the clear enmity that seems to have... perpetrated from your hiring. As he believes, at least, that you got Gary fired when it was not the case.

-[x]Learn The Set Location: You need to learn the geography of the set, and make sure you won't look like a fool. DC: 10 Rolled: 68

You looked at the rolling hills and the mountains of the camp that would serve as the 4077's home for the next... however long the show was going to last, and you could see that without question, it was a thing of beauty.

It also had plenty of places to hike around and that meant you could actually work out here when you were not needed on set.

And that... that was godly.

Along with many benefits, you knew that it was also a fire zone from hell. The rolling hills had enough kindling in them that if there were not consistent, controlled burns all over the entire area, the entire set and possibly people could go up in smoke. Literally, as it could only take a few minutes before a fire was sighted to reach the area.

Whoever placed this camp had only a setting and ideas in mind. Not safety or fire prevention.

Reward: You have surveyed the camp, and while it is perfect for filming... you also know that it has real and legitimate dangers of a wildfire that could hurt or kill people.

-----------------------‐------------------------------------

-[x]The Call of Creation: You want to create something of your own, a story, an idea that maybe, you can shop around to more talented people. DC: ???. Write in what you want to create. Reward: (Your write in idea will be going through the creative process)
--[x]You want to work on that idea you had since Hong Kong, the Story of a criminal assassin, who is in a world by his own desire. He will be tested, spiritually, physically, and mentally in his quest to not only become a member of the So-Called High Table. You want to see it started at least. Just so you aren't bored. Rolled: 9

You lost interest in the idea. Frankly, you thought it would be better as an old west story. But when you tried to write, it was... Well frankly, you didn't want to write it. it was just so much work that you did not think anything was going to be alright...

You were afraid. You were tired. And in the end, I was self-conscious. You were afraid that what you decided to go for wasn't good enough. And in the end, you really just wanted to focus on MASH.

Result: Failure.

-----------------------‐------------------------------------

-[x] Go to a bar or something to make jokes: You wanted to try some comedy, perhaps you can try. even with your shit timing. DC: 40 (Your Lack of comedy chops is going to be something that will bite you.) Rolled: 27

To say that your comedy chops were a one-note... was kinda obvious.

You were back to being timid on the mic, and your jokes fell flat.

Failure:

For the next turn, suffer a -10 to comedy roles.

-----------------------‐------------------------------------

- [x] Call your parents: You need to call mom and dad, see how they are doing? DC: 10 (You call your parents and see what they are doing) Rolled: 40

Dad was the one who answered the phone. "Hey kid, heard from Clint you moved out?"

"Yeah, dad, I did." You stated as you looked at the clock. "I got another job, some TV show that's set in Korea. And I'm playing the clerk. But it's a big role."

"Good. don't waste, and leave everything you have on the film, and then you'll be good."

"Uh, Dad. I have a question?"

"Ask it kid, and be quick, I'm not getting any younger." He laughed over the phone.

"How did you meet Clint?" You asked.

"I told you, on Raw Hide, I was an extra back then, trying to get a role, and it never worked out." He replied.

"Fine, I won't get anything from you dad, but what about trying to get ahead?"

That made your father laugh. "Sell your soul to the devil, and never look back." That made your body shiver.

"Dad." You groaned.

"Fine... just make friends with some powerful people. Make sure you keep things good... and in the end, make sure you don't lose yourself in this world. I barely got out, so don't stay if you can't handle it."

You nodded. "Thanks, dad."

"Good luck kid."

Reward: You talked to your dad.

+5 to audition rolls for the next turn.

There's a lot of stuff in the 70s. The Six Million Dollar Man. Happy Days. Starsky & Hutch. The Amazing Spider-Man. Charlie's Angels. Three's Company.

I still think we should use our athleticism, martial arts training, and charisma (WE did trick an audience to think we were a protagonist) And start our own action movie franchise, and then take some high-class and awesome acting gigs. As Tom Hanks did.

Or become a member of the Star Wars Cast, and then fuck shit up that way.

I agree, but I think we should wait for the big boom of action films that is the 80s, meanwhile we can establish ourself as actors in different films, and work to make it feasable (we need money, networking and luck)

Also, I really prefer that when we do it we won't rip off John Wick or something else, lets do original stuff, I don't mind taking a bit of inspartion, but just as a concept, you want a story about assasin that come back from retirement? Fine, but thats as far as I want to take from it. Let's develop the rest on our own.

Well I did write a short dystopian sci fi story about UBI and social credit being used by a future authoritarian government to control people.

That seems like it could be fun.

Well, Magoose dice next time. Either we succeed above and beyond or we crash and burn.

Prepare yourselves, people.

Anyway, I agree that we should make our own action franchise, but we would need to be better at directing, writing and keep all of our current skills sharp.

I still think what we should do is something exciting, action packed and cerebral like the Matrix or the First John Wick.

Keeping it simple, while also showing that we are extremely badass.
