Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

Also didn't disney fuck up so badly a miazaki realse that they received a katana with the message no cuts
Princess Mononoke came stateside armed against cuts after "Warriors of the Wind" got sliced up enough to invert the film's entire message.

On the other hand, maybe Lucasfilm's imports have given the Mouse enough confidence to pave the way for Nausicaa Valley of the Wind to make the transition unaltered.

Well, at least we can dip our fingers in japan for animation artist in the future when looking for further talents and allow us to really push different styles and ideas for animation.

And sadly he'll probably hate us more because of Conan. Oh well, Disney at the very least has always treated Miyazaki distributions with love and care so he's not really missing out on anything grand.
Well, we can always ramp up our Charity efforts towards nature conservation... That would probably ease things among us.
Strange, that so many people seem to hate us even when we havent yet met them or interfered in their business. Like I can understand why the big studios hate the Goose, but what about even unrelated people, like that Location guy that was Steve's contact in the last update. What did we ever do to him?
Well as the Simpson's put it once...

But more seriously, in the case of Miyazaki, Kaiser Chis had a great post analysing why he hates Bruce
So I've been doing some reading on Miyazaki and I think I've figured out why he hates Bruce so much. I think the chief reason Miyazaki hates Bruce so much is due to his ardent pacifism and war trauma with some major misconceptions about Bruce thanks to his politics and career. So Miyazaki grew up as a child in World War II and his literal first memories were those of the carpet bombing of Japan. Because of this, Miyazaki hates war in all of its forms and has tried to install themes of pacifism in all of his movies. In contrast you have Bruce, someone who is very patriotic and pro-veterans who came to fame as the star of MASH, a show about life in an Army unit during the Korean War. The first season of MASH tended to have more patriotic themes and generally favorable view on military life compared to the strong anti-war themes of the latter half of the show. In Miyazaki's eyes, Bruce is in essence a war monger who gleefully supports American Imperialism and wars of aggression especially with his career starting on the eve of Vietnam War. Making matters more complicated is that while Miyazaki is not racist towards Americans in general, he completely hates the US military because of his trauma from World War II even if he also believes the Japanese Empire is evil, he still views the US military as evil for all of the death and misery it spread to the Japanese islands, and Bruce by being a pro-veteran patriot is in essence condoning his trauma. So yeah, we are literally a walking trigger on Miyazaki's greatest hatred.

But there's other factors too. Miyazaki in general really hates Globalism and the effects its had on Japanese culture. To be clear, he's not a Nationalist or believes that other cultures are inherently lesser in value to Japan. He just prefers for all the nation's cultures to stay within their culture and not influence other cultures. I think this is due to fears of other cultures specific values harming Japanese culture and causing a degredation to destroy the natural beauty of Japan's nature and its people. More specifically, his pet peeve is Western Capitalism, consumerism and industrialism with Miyazaki believing that Japan is under constant attack from Western corruption where they turn Japan from traditional values and obssessed with individualism and market consumption which tears apart the families and destroys the land in pursuit of resources, while art itself is lost in value due to fetishization and consumer pleasing than actual artistic pursuit. So in essence, Miyazaki is fine with his movies being played in America because he's showing pure Japanese values and his movies are a defiance of Western Capitalism, but he gets triggered when American movies are popular in Japan because they tend to also accidentally bring the worst of America's cultural traits with them to influence the youth. It should be noted though he is not against any kind of cultural influence. He has often cited several Western authors in literature as his inspirations with the Snow Queen being what he considers his primary influence in filmmaking for Studio Ghibli. I think Miyazaki likes classic and traditional Western culture but he has beef with modern Western culture.

Building off of his hatred of war and pacifism, Miyazaki hates violence in general and his films never feature the protagonist fighting against a specific and direct villain and instead Miyazaki uses non-traditional forms of storytelling with a focus on the protagonist achieving personal growth or a change in relationships. Bruce is a professional boxer, one of the most violent and bloody sports where participants just punch each other to victory. Miyazaki is probably disgusted by this and linking back to his sentiments that Bruce is a warmonger, he thinks he's a violent brute who teaches the youth to engage in violence instead of fostering community and friendship.

Finally building back to his hatred of Capitalism, Bruce is in essence an American Capitalist. He's a self-made multimillionaire and owns a large business and multiple assets, lives in a luxurious mansion, frequently rubs shoulders with the American elite, and his charities support "Warmongering" i.e being pro veterans. Since Bruce lives in moderate luxury, Miyazaki believes unfairly that Bruce is a self-serving and self-righteous elitist who just consumes and doesn't care about others or the environment, but is instead a willing participant in the economic system that destroys the old world.

Oh and of course he could just naturally not be into our works like American Graffiti or MASH and just have his negative opinions exacerbated by all of his biases.

In short, Miyazaki is a very complicated man with very strong opinions and passions. If you fit within his worldview, then he will look upon you favorably and treat you kindly. If you belong against his worldview, then he hates you and thinks you attack his way of life by existing even if you have a high personal opinion of him. Bruce unfortunately lives a lifestyle and has viewpoints that trigger Miyazaki's past traumas and promote lifestyles and cultural practices that make him scared and angry. It's nothing we can do about it besides changing Bruce's character entirely, and given how his ideology and views are generated from trauma and hardship, I don't hold it against Miyazaki.

Now good news is that it's possible to make Miyazaki like, or at least respect Bruce through different methods. Probably not going to happen anytime soon because Star Wars is definitely going to trigger the hell out of Miyazaki by making war seem like an adventure, but we can make him like us over the course of our career.

The first and probably easiest path is to have Miyazaki be more aware of Bruce's intense love and devotion for his wife and family, especially once Bruce and Carrie have kids and he's presumably a good father. The one thing Miyazaki loves and cherishes above all else is family. A major portion of his works emphasizes family of all kinds and how love brings out the best in people and makes them the most happiest and fulfilled. Miyazaki learning that Bruce loves his family and places it above all else would at least temper the worst of his greivances towards Bruce and make him understand that even though Bruce in essence has a lot of "Wrong" viewpoints, he at least treasures his family and places the family above all else, and if Bruce has a great work-life balance and is involved with his kids then it might drive it home more as Miyazaki despite loving family, was very distant with his children due to work.

Second, Miyazaki is a strong feminist and most of his films have very strong adolescent female characters. Star Wars was at the time noted as a very progressive and feminist film for having Leia be a central character whose active and dynamic instead of just waiting to be rescued. Bruce himself is also at the very least for female empowerment and likes to have his female characters in stories have agency and strong character instead of being arm candy. If Bruce makes films with lots of strong and good female main characters or leads, that may make Miyazaki come around. I actually think The Playground could be the key to changing Miyazaki's viewpoint because not only is it a film about a father connecting with his kids and supporting their sense of wonder and play but also has the fantasy adventure side feature a strong female lead saving the day would really impact him deeply.

Aside from those, films about environmentalism and anti-war would reach an accord with Miyazaki, though the first one would probably be an easier sale whereas Miyazaki may think Bruce is being shallow or insincere with the latter. It stinks that he doesn't like us, but to be fair this is kind of expected where no matter how nice Bruce is or how good of a man, there will always be some good people and great artists who just hate Bruce for irrational reasons or due to Bruce on the outside being against their values like how Mohammad Ali hates Bruce. So long as they don't actively oppose us I don't think it's the end of the world, just need to have Bruce continue to be genuine and change minds with actions and sincerity.

Well very fortunately it turns out that Miyazaki absolutely loathes and is disgusted by Japanese Nationalism and abhors everything Japan did in World War II. He has been extremely outspoken against revisionism in the Japanese school system to whitewash the Empire and has openly called for Japan to apologize for its mass list of war crimes and to give reparations to Korean comfort woman. So Miyazaki is very based and a strong opponent to Fascism.

Will the THX x2 profit bonus stack with the existing writer's strock profit doubling?
Yes.
@Magoose Has Race For Your Life Charlie Brown been made and if so is it distributed by Paramount?
Paramount has them.
Speaking of, what does little Sarah think of her Uncle Bruce and Aunt Carrie
Bruce is really cool and really big, and thinks Carrie is the prettiest woman in the world.
Strange, that so many people seem to hate us even when we havent yet met them or interfered in their business. Like I can understand why the big studios hate the Goose, but what about even unrelated people, like that Location guy that was Steve's contact in the last update. What did we ever do to him?
It's mostly because Bruce has a reputation.

And people just sometimes don't like how Bruce does things.

How did Bill Finger lawsuit turn out?

Also have the muppets still not been nabbed by a channel? If so what are chances of bringing them on board Lucas films or DreamWorks?

Moderate financial compensation for lost royalties along with permanent royalties for his family, from now all on Batman comics will be credited as having been originated by Bob Kane and Bill Finger
Well, it's better than what we got OTL. At least this time around Bob Kane won't be going around saying how he created Batman all by his lonesome.

By the way, is there any chance you can make an Omake about our animators, or perhaps about Jackie Chan now working with us.

Another idea for the animation side of things and it's two names Rocky and Bullwinkle ~😊 I mean not sure who owns them right now but making them part of the DreamWorks family could be quite a nice coup.

Shit, I haven't thought of those guys in soooo long. It's a good shout although I still think that if we're absolutely going to purchase characters for our animation, that we should go with the Harvey or Terrytoons characters and give those underappreciated gems some love.

Yeah they're a classic that I think deserves a comeback ~

Hmm who are Harvey and Terrytoons? Confess don't think heard of them.

Did Five Dates get a release yet? It seems like we shot that forever ago.

Not yet, just as it was finished editing we went to the Olympics then had to prep for Carrie's release and then Star Wars.

I'm hoping we do something in April/May. Magoose said that we'd be starting filming in June but since the Oscars are the last thing before filming and they're on March 28th we may start filming earlier, in which case maybe we release Five Dates in March for the spring break crowd. Would normally let Mike handle the release but considering this is our directorial debut and a movie we did alongside Carrie Bruce will probably have to do media stuff.

The Harvey characters include the likes of Casper the Friendly Ghost, Little Audrey, Richie Rich, Baby Huey, and more. Terrytoons include the likes of Mighty Mouse, Farmer Al Falfa, Heckle and Jeckle, and more.
Ah gotcha thanks for letting me know and answering my question. Admit out of those characters most familiar with Caspter, heard of Mighty Mouse, and Richie Rich only know through those two live action movies.

I see that and raise you the original Mr. Peabody and Sherman animated episodes.

The movie was fine for me, but I still really love the original episodes. The show was... a thing.

Hnm..

When should we form Pixar later down the line? The split would be quite possible to be early due to our entry into animation.

I'm in favor of forming Pixar. As I've said many times now, I think we should have Dreamworks focused on producing 2D animation and Pixar focused on producing 3D animation.

Edit: Sorry, I thought you were asking IF we should split Pixar. To actually answer your question, I think sometime around the time that it was created OTL works fine.

Hmm might want to pace ourselves and focus on 2d animation for now, as it's still 70s late yes but still think tech few decades behind when it comes to making decent never mind good 3d animation.

Heck that show reboot from the 90s was hailed as advanced 3d animatio during it's run if remember right and well it's nothing compared to what we got now.

Movie Pitch: Mr. Peabody and Sherman
Talking about The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends reminded me of the amazing shorts where Mr. Peabody and Sherman would go on their adventures through time, and all the wacky hijinks they would get into (mostly, I remember Mr. Peabody's voice, I loved how he would always speak so fast and yet we could understand him). Then I remembered the movie they did a decade ago and I thought: "You know what? If we could make the movie now, we could catch many of the people who originally watched this as children, and we could use a mix of Western and Eastern animation to bring in a new style for everyone to enjoy".

Well, it was mostly pieces of that, but together they form that sentence, so it counts!

Bear in mind, I don't want us to buy the rights for the characters as I think that this kind of series or movie can only be done once. So, personally, I think this could work better if we approach Jay Ward Production and ask for a Collaboration to use their characters this one time for the movie. I feel this works for the best, as most of the other characters don't seem like they have a future later on. Now perhaps this is my own bias showing, as I did love the show when I first saw it on the reruns, but the later reboots and movies that came just didn't seem to have that magic and entertainment that the previous ones had. Save for this one of course, the movie was amazing!

Alright then, enough praising around. I give you:

Movie Pitch:
Mr. Peabody and Sherman

GENRE: Adventure/Comedy

SUBGENRE: Science Fiction

FORMAT: Movie (Animation/Anime Mix)

Set Up: Based on characters from the Peabody's Improbable History segments of the animated television series The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends. Mr. Peabody and Sherman use the WABAC to embark on time travel adventures. When Sherman accidentally rips a hole by taking the WABAC without permission to impress Penny Peterson, they must find themselves to repair history and save the future.

Director: Robert Zemeckis
Composer: Irwin Kostal
Mr. Peabody: He is an extremely ambitious and inventive dog who is the smartest being in the world. Peabody is extremely proud of his laundry list of achievements and positive qualities, holding his head high. He is surprisingly kind and fatherly but is prone to minor bragging, making puns tailored to the situation, and hiding his affection. His top priority is his son Sherman, who is his pride and joy.

Played By: Bill Scott
Alternate: Dan Castellaneta

Sherman: Sherman is an extremely fun-loving and kind kid, but is a little more reckless than other children. He is bright, intelligent, kind of loud, a bit obnoxious and seems to have a problem with history, which is why Mr. Peabody builds the WABAC in order to go back in time and learn of what happened back then.

Played By: Corey Feldman
Alternate: Ke Huy Quan

Penny Peterson: Despite looking sweet and innocent, Penny is very rich and spoiled and she appeared to have been envious of Sherman's smarts. She's also rebellious and kind of manipulative when it suits her. However, she is also loyal and caring to those she's close with, willing to own up to her mistakes and apologize for them.

Played By: Drew Barrymore
Alternate: Martha Plimpton

Ms. Grunion: She is a corrupt and evil social worker that is attempting to get Sherman taken away from Mr. Peabody. However, she does not really care for Sherman's well-being, she actually wants to ruin Sherman's and Mr. Peabody's lives and make them miserable. She goes as far as reporting Peabody to the police with a false accusation, just so she can have him put down.

Played By: Jean Marsh
Alternate: Patricia Hayes
Paul Peterson: He is a very serious stern who is easily angered and distracted by his phone calls. He doesn't seem to like Peabody very much and not very interested in meeting him.

Patricia Peterson: She is very kind, motherly, and overly enthusiastic to meet Mr. Peabody. She loves her daughter and husband dearly and is a very compassionate character

Principal Purdy: The Principal of Sherman and Penny's school. She calls Sherman and Penny to his office when an altercation between them happens, and Mr. Grunion is there.

A.N.: So, I was thinking that we should make this movie sooner rather than later if only to take advantage of the nostalgia feeling from the fans of the original cartoon. Not to mention that we could introduce new forms of animation here with our new Japanese animators. We get the chance to revive an old classic, while at the same time we can introduce a new style to the world, it will be amazing!

Dreamworks Head of Animation and his Motley Crew of Directors
Dreamworks Head of Animation and his Motley Crew of Directors

You, Mike, and George looked at many of the young men, and old men who were now there. There was something that was interesting once you had learned just how many men were actually here.

The animation world was not something you kept up on like you were a child, but you knew a few names that existed, like Disney, Jones, and Hanna-Barbara. Yet all the while, you realized that there were lots of people who never made it to the spotlight. Men who were itching to prove themselves. And you had given them a chance. As Universal went with…

Actually, you didn't even know who they went with, the papers didn't seem to be talking about it.

Yet you were smiling as you looked at the names.

"So, who do we choose?" You asked with a smile.

Who will be the Head of Dreamworks?:

[]John Musker and Ron Clements: A Pakaged Duo, men who worked together at Disney, while they were there, they had been part of those who had been fired to make way to get Disney capital to Buy Warner Animation. They are brilliant storytellers, fun animators in the traditional Disney style and their own, and they have a lovely time when writing, and everyone who worked with them claimed they were awesome to work with. (Staff working for them will not suffer any roll maluses. Animated Films of all types will not suffer any roll maluses)

[]Don Bluth: Another Disney Alumni, who left because he did not like where Disney was going vision-wise. He's an old master, even at his young age, and one of the few animators who are bringing their own team with them to join up. To make things very clear, he's very into the usual traditional Western Animation… And dislikes possible new forms. (Brings another 20 animators, as well as gives a +50 quality to all Western Animation films. But suffers a -50 to all 3d animation films as he despites it)

[]Jeffrey Katzenberg: Mike Eisner brought on a defector from Paramount, someone whom he has had his eyes on for a while. Jeff is brilliant, but also… well he wants to make things known that he is the one who does things and does things his way. The man, in his mind, knows how good he is. (For every successful film Jeff has that makes a profit, gain a +100 to all rolls. However, for every failure, he will roll if he has a breakdown, and if he takes it out on his staff, giving them a -50 to every roll)

[]Yoshiyuki Tomino: An Animator from a company called Sunrise, who came to the United States as a Hired Animator, effectually called a Hired Gun by anyone in the Animation industry. He's meticulous and has a wonderful work ethic. There is also the fact he is a very, very big fan of star wars, and has been seen bowing at George whenever he's in the office for interviews. He also comes with some sort of toy that Sunrise wanted him to make a show about, and show off to George, and see if said toy would breach the western Market, with the right backing. He also said he wanted to do something cool with it… calling it Star Wars with Robots. (Automatically get the rights to Gundam. Enter Alliance with Japanese Animation company Sunrise. All TV show rolls get a +40 to their rolls. Script quality of all animation get increased by +40.)

[]Noboru Ishiguro: Another Japanese Animator, who came to the West when the job opened up. Turns out he was trying to just create more stories that went to his artistic passion, plains, jets, and space. There is also a clear love for Hawaii in his work. (+30 to all film rolls. +20 to all TV Rolls. Films get -1 month of production time as he knows how to cheat in animation)

[]Katsuhiro Otomo: The Man Toho sent. He's an author, a Mangaka and as it turns out, a damn good animator. He's more interested in the style of new animation that is coming out of Japan, a more fluid style. He is accomplished and incredibly gifted. He is also a big fan of science fiction, so he said he would fit right in. (Unkown Effect on Japanese Animation. On all works of science fiction, gain a +40 to all rolls. Unknown effect on Western Animation)
