Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

Chats about puss in boot being DreamWorks mascot gave me one idea for movie we could make that wanted to share before calling it night.

The man the legend Zorro!

You can't tell me that wouldn't be a epic movie to have under DreamWorks banner~ Plus could give him animated spin off heck could do some crossover work that have Puss and him as friends/rivals.

Damn, you really pumped this puppy out.
As I say to anyone writing quests.

You either want to write the quest that you are willing to spend hours on end, writing, editing, and otherwise creating, and doing that for a very long time, to the point where you just... do it.

Or be me and hate everything and just decide to hide behind my desk writing.

And roll for Universal. :V

Yes! We got one over Disney!

Also, No! Why is Disney hiring so much!? The Animation department should be on their deathknell with a Hail Mary pass, not gearing up for WWII!

His name is Chuck Jones, and he somehow... Managed to get investors interested in Disney Again.

Plus Blackhole and War of the Worlds might help. :V
...I want to say something about Chuck Jones ancestry, but frankly that's beneath me and too insulting for a man that deserves nothing but respect for all his work in animation through the decades.

But damn it all, why now! We had Disney on the fucking ropes!

*Sigh* Please tell me we at least got John Musker and Ron Clements.

Guys, Tim Burton started working with Disney during the 80s, he's still studying in CalArts at the moment and will be approached by Dinsey after his short of Stalk the Celery Monster. If we play our cards right we might be able to hire him before Disney and get him as our aniimator and Director for films in the future.

Brad Bird was canonnically supposed to leave Disney in 1979, but with how things are going he might not now.

Glad we got Basil of Bakerstreet, I loved The Great Mouse Detective movie growing up, never knew it was based on a book. Let's hope we can make something at least as good. I hope we can get Vincent Price for Ratigan, but it might be tough to get him to audition since he once said "If anybody but Disney had asked me, I would have been offended."

Sounds like someone Disney scouted long before we'll ever get the chance to hear of him. I'll see that as an impossible change unless events say otherwise for now.

[]So We're just not going to talk about this being in English (The French won't get angry at you having an English speaking cast on the film)

[]The Story is much clearer (The Production rolls will be increased)

Weird that the French would get so pissy since there's a couple of English-speaking adaptations but I guess it's better not to cause a problem.

Ideas to purchase rights to or talk to their creators about right to animate as part of DreamWorks Peanuts and Garfield.

Both childhood classics~ plus like Disney has mickey and technically Bugs since Warner's dead shouldn't DreamWorks have its own cartoon mascot as their face?

Snoopy and Garfield seem like good contender for the job.

Well for Peanuts it's a bit of a mixed bag. OTL all the specials were done under the Mendelson/Melendez Productions company. For their first two films they distributed through a company that went defunct in 1974, and then for the third film "Race for Your Life Charlie Brown", they distributed with Paramount. Now on Distributoin, there's a decent chance Race for Your Life hasn't been made yet or is early in production thanks to the writer's strike. So there might be a chance to make a deal before they go to Paramount but the movie came out in 1977 OTL so it's a small window. Even if we did distribute for them, I don't know if it would be a Dreamworks film because the Peanuts specials are all done through Mendelson/Melendez with Melendez being the only person Charles Schulz trusts. So first we'd have to go through Charles Schulz to make some sort of deal. Maybe we have Dreamworks do a really high budget and ambitious peanuts film and help fund some of the tv specials. Would be a hard sell without Dreamworks doing any products.

@Magoose Has Race For Your Life Charlie Brown been made and if so is it distributed by Paramount?

-[X] The Head Animator of Dreamworks: Who will lead the charge for the Head Animator Spot DC: ??? Rolled:D100 => 100

Well, maybe you didn't look hard enough, because honestly, you were just frankly out of luck finding people.

Disney was keeping and hiring like Mad, and there was word that Universal itself was financing a new Animation department to match your own increase in entering the animation industry.

The fact that Disney was firing on all Cylinders, Hyping up Black Hole, and War of the Worlds was something that may have been something you wished wasn't the case.

Maybe people still didn't like working with you. Maybe you just didn't have a good enough pitch.

Then almost 12 hours later, Almost every major animator in Hollywood was after a job for Dreamworks.

And even some from Japan itself. Turns out Mike had reached out to some Animation companies in Japan, and there was quite a few young directors that was desperate for a chance.

Among many, many others.

(Continued in: Dreamworks Head of Animation and his Motley Crew of Directors)
----------------------------------------------------------

-[X] Hiring Animators: We need animators fast DC:??? Rolled:D100 => 83

Yet even without an established head, you had over 100 animators coming right in and coming to work…

Mike had almost fainted at the price tag for animators, but after he realized how much star wars money was coming in, he realized you could afford it.

Reward: You have a stable of over 100 animators now working for Dreamworks.

Very nice, looks like we got a hell of a gang and even better our films will have anime influences. Can't wait to see Dreamworks produce American Anime. Looking forward to the inevitable thread civil war over leadership. Hopefully with this many directors it means we can work on multiple films, but probably no more than two for the first couple of years.

-[X] All the Presidents Men: You need to convince George that maybe he can… Oh, wait he already went to produce it? Damn, that was quick. DC: 0 Rolled:D100 => 96

George had left a note in the office, one that made you realize just how excited he was for the film.

"Greenlight, and ready to get filmed"

Then he ran past you with a smile on his face.

Well, he was excited. You hadn't seen him this excited since he came to you with Star Wars.

Reward: George is producing All the President's Men…

And working for free just because he wants to.

Go, George. At least Marcia is happy that he's not hyper-focused on Star Wars.

Nice. George gets to work on something else than Star Wars and we are likely to have a third film for the end of the year release if all goes well. I think for Five Dates we should release either April or May to cash in on hopeful Oscar wins and dominate the spring season. Then we have Close Encounters in July or August. Will the THX x2 profit bonus stack with the existing writer's strock profit doubling?

-[X] The Lot Comes up: You are going to look at what the Crew was doing at the Lot. How would it look? DC: 30 Rolled:D100 => 55
-[X] Preparing for the Shoot (Sets): This will be the inaugural sets of Lucasfilms in America, owned by Lucasfilms itself. Now to see what the mind of you and Steve can come up with for a fantasy Castle. DC: 30 Rolled:D100 => 99

Honestly, The lot itself wasn't impressive. It was only a few hundred acres, and it was under developed. It was going to take months, and even years to build the place up to the iconic statues like the Burbank lot and the Universal Studio's lot.

But damn did they hit the ground running.

Because holy hell the castle was beautiful.

Steve himself was just wearing a Star Wars hat with sunglasses, looking at it with a smile on his face. "Well, guess we can safely say we can have a siege here?" He laughed.

"Oh yeah."

The Castle itself was based on the old Arg-e-Bam, a Middle Eastern castle that was one of the oldest still standing. But with a twist of crusader castles that existed on the coast near Acre, an anachronistic design, but one that would not leave everyone confused.

Reward: While the Lot itself… leaves much to be desired.

The Set Designers and builders have absolutely did everything to change that. The Castle that was constructed was incredible, a true castle in the Middle of California.

A Castle that will be destroyed when it was all over. And you loved them for it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-[X] Preparing for The Shoot (Location): YOu and Steve and the location scouts are going to be going off to Jordan and Isreal to get the final location scouting that you need. DC: 40 Rolled:D100 => 75

It was a fine scouting.

You, Steve, and the Location guy that Steve knew, you forgot his name because he didn't really like you all that much, was more interested in working with his director.

You just stood in the background and made some points of your own. Jordan was beautiful, and the desert was breathtaking…

Yet it was in the plains of Isreal that Steve seemed to find himself immersed, not only in his spiritual homeland but one that seemed to invoke majesty within it's history. Crusader and Islamic Castles.

Temples, Mosques, and churches. It was like he was doing far more, with far more, than he could possibly imagine.

And when it was over. There was a vision in his mind. One that you were excited to be a part of.

Reward: You had a wonderful scout, and something told you that Steve has his mojo.

Unknown effect on Production.
---------------------------------------------------------

-[X] Preparing for the Shoot (Weapon Training): You and the others need to get weapons training, That means your favorite part. Learning and mastering something new and cool. DC: 40 Rolled:D100 + 30 => 113

The only one with any weapons training coming into this, was Jackie, who was struggling a little bit with the language barrier. Everyone else was just doing their level best to just look competent.

Now that however, would not do. So with Jackie's help, along with Bob Anderson, you made sure everyone was ready to fight and look good while doing it.

In the end, everyone was competent.

But you and Jackie… You were going to demand Steve let you direct the Action Scene. The fight or spar would be legendary!

Reward: You and Jackie are highly prepared and motivated, while… everyone else is at least competently trained and won't hurt themselves.

So thank god for small miracles.

Glad to see pre-production is sailing smoothly and we're vibing well with Jackie Chan. So some of the production is going to be filmed on our current lot? Well that's good as it means that some of Conan will be done in LA so Bruce doesn't have to spend too long in the Middle East. Hopefully Steven has some speed so he can spend plenty of time with Carrie. Feel more confident now to go for the action boost for them next turn if Carrie's not already pregnant.

-[X] A New Neighbor: You have a new neighbor in the neighborhood, and you wonder who it is- Never mind it's Debbie… wait why is she here? Why would she move? DC: 25 Rolled:D100 => 91

When you saw the moving trucks, you honestly didn't know who it was.

And you were going to be a good neighbor and greet them, before… well you saw Debbie come running out with the agent. "Damn shame I had to get into the Five Dates Money for this, but I think it was well worth it."

Carrie was with her, and she was feeling… well excited. You were less so.

"Um, Hi Debbie, um…" You were trying to find your words. Instead, you were only hushed.

"If you must know, Carrie informed me of you two deciding to have children." You and Carrie both traded a glance of both shock and horror.

"How-" Carrie seemed to protest.

"A Mother knows sweetie." She said with a grin on her face, and both of you paled. "And I have already vowed to be a better grandmother for them, and try my best to make that happen."

"And how does being our neighbor help us?" You asked.

"You're about to go galavanting across the world making movies, and Carrie will eventually want to work. Whether it be at the screen room or back in front of the Camera. And I am perfectly capable and willing to put my career on hold for my Grandchildren. Lord knows that I have already done well enough for that." She paused and pulled both of you close. "I've made many mistakes Carrie, and I was always distant when I shouldn't have been. I'm just going to make sure you two don't make the mistakes that I have. Or failing that, make sure they have someone they can rely on."

She then laughed and let go. "But I know you both will do a good job with the whole thing. Much better than me."

Reward: Debbie has become a neighbor. And while her reasons are noble, it's still a little disheartening to think she believes you might put work before family.

But then again, it's her experience, not yours driving her.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-[X] Having Fun: You and Carrie haven't had a night on the town in some time. Perhaps that's what you both need. Just a good ole time where it's just the two of you. DC: ??? Rolled:D100 => 90+40=130

At the start of the night, it was actually nice to swim in the pool. And you were happy to watch the woman you love to dive in and try to catch you. Carrie was never the strongest swimmer, but you both knew you slowed down to let her catch you.

When she surfaced, taking a breath, she hugged you. "You know you should actually try to get away from me, you make it too easy?"

"Oh?" You smiled, as she let go and stood on her tiptoes to remain above water. "Is that a challenge Carrie?"

Carrie spat some water out of her mouth as she moved behind you to stand. "Yeah. it is."

Oh, it was. You were going to enjoy this. "You are on Carrie." You smiled, as you walked over to the wall and pulled yourself out. You could see Carrie wading towards the spot you usually swam by, and began waiting for you.

"Last Chance Carrie to amit defeat?" You smiled as you got onto the diving board.

Carrie blew a raspberry at you, water flying out from her mouth.

Her loss.

You dove in and made impact. Moving through the water you felt around where she would be.

Then you felt her feet and grabbed her. She had moved too slow, and you pulled her under… then you realized you were shallow enough to stand, and you grabbed her other leg and placed her on your shoulders, before standing up.

"PACK!" Carrie coughed as you carried her on your shoulders. "No fair!"

"I told you." You smiled as you stood up, as she balanced on your shoulders. "How's the view?"

You could tell Carrie was blushing. "Not as good as the view you will have."

Hmm… then she forced herself back, and you allowed yourself to tip backward into your pool.

When you both surfaced and your eyes opened, Carrie was hugging you on the back, and you turned around. "I love you." She whispered as she leaned in.

"I know." You kissed her, not caring about the taste of her lips or the chlorine in her mouth. It was perfect.

Reward: You and Carrie have a fun time, destressing and relaxing.

Love to see some good ol fluff. Bruce and Carrie continue to be adorable and our Goslings will always have a loving grandma next door when their parents are doing films. Shame that Bruce's parents are all alone and on the other side of the country, though they couldn't have asked for a better grandma neighbor than Debbie Reynolds.

-[X]Investments: You want to invest your hard-earned cash into something that you feel will be a good return on investment. And as well as diversify your assets DC: 0 (Linetail what you wish to invest in below this action, and the amount of money you want to invest in)
--[X] Purchase adaptation rights for Basil of Baker Street. $800,000 Rolled:D100 => 84

It all began, with you babysitting your niece while Cat was in town. You didn't know how you were stuck with her, but you were unlucky because Debbie and Carrie were both out for the night.

And Cat told you her little girl, was not watching movies or TV.

Which leads you to try and scrounge for books. But all the books you had were far too adult for her.

Which lead to you going to Debbie's house to find out if she had any things.

And you found Basil of Baker Street, a forgotten hardcover in a box that was still being unpacked.

You would later learn that Debbie had accidentally bought a few children's books when trying to buy some memorabilia, and the books were in the box they came in, and she promptly forgot about them.

You fell in love with it, same for your niece, and when everyone came back, you had both fallen asleep reading it.

After a quick call, you had purchased the film rights for Basil of Baker Street.

You had learned, much to your surprise, that Disney had tried to purchase the rights to it and had almost gotten a deal, but were told off after you paid more.

Reward: Basil of Baker Street can now be adapted.
-------------------------------

Sweet, another underrated classic saved and to be given greater love. In addition to the movie, we could also turn it into a great tv series, basically Scooby-Doo in England with mice. I bet the author was probably extra motivated to sell to Bruce when he shared the anecdote of him falling in love with the books while reading to his niece. Speaking of, what does little Sarah think of her Uncle Bruce and Aunt Carrie?

And sadly he'll probably hate us more because of Conan. Oh well, Disney at the very least has always treated Miyazaki distributions with love and care so he's not really missing out on anything grand.

Sounds like someone Disney scouted long before we'll ever get the chance to hear of him. I'll see that as an impossible change unless events say otherwise for now.

I mean no reason why Dreamworks by the 80s wouldn't have active talent scouts at film schools and colleges looking for the next crop of artists. We have to get our animators from somewhere and with the market starting to go cuththraot with Universal's entry animators will have a far easier time paying off student loans. Curious to see what Universal is gonna make for their cartoons, I could easily see them being the Illumination of the 80s. So long as we get Hanna-Barbera before Ted Turner and we found Cartoonnetwork I'll be happy.

Strange, that so many people seem to hate us even when we havent yet met them or interfered in their business. Like I can understand why the big studios hate the Goose, but what about even unrelated people, like that Location guy that was Steve's contact in the last update. What did we ever do to him?
