Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

What you got against Bluth? I mean the man created land before time movie series loved those films growing up saw and believe own every one~

A True staple of my childhood so figure he'd be a great choice as head animator. Plus if not him than who?
I don't have anything against him! Hell, I loved his movies before I knew they were his, but at the same time i know that he could bring more of his A game is he doesn't have to worry all the time about what the department is doing. I just want to give him a budget and let him run wild so that he can bring us the masterpieces he never could because of lack of time or money in OTL.

Yes, but as the head of Dreamworks and reporting directly to us, he would have direct influence over those factors as opposed to him being just another animator and having maybe some soft power due to his talent. Not to mention, I hate to be pushy about it because I don't want to come off as hostile(that's not my intention), but you keep neglecting to answer the question of who else? It's fair if you don't know who but still don't want him to head Dreamworks or want to wait to see who Magoose offers up, that's all fine, but you aren't offering an alternative.

Ah I gotcha also do apologize if was meant as joking a bit asking lightly what you against him being head animator was taken more hostile than I intended.

That said believe you might have good pint ther he probably could bring his A game better. But at same time he's probably one of best choices we got for department so we'd need a good alternative who would love and respect animation like it deserves

No that was how Superman is going.

Christopher reeves as alway is Superman. And Kathleen is thanking her lucky stars that he is so dedicated to the role when others would have half assed it.

And it's not even close.

Okay...

*Takes a deep breath*

Okay.

The roll was for Christopher Reeves, though second order effects means that'll help that KKK bitch.

Okay.

I'll rationalise this as making Reeves as a Superman icon and bringing justice to the Big Blue Boy Scout, no more no less.

Warn a guy next time, eh?

Warn a guy next time, eh?
But where is the fun in that. I like making people sweat.

Also, I would never make you roll for something bad to happen to Bruce or anyone else.

But I never said that I wouldn't make you roll for good things happening to other people.

Most of the time actors I like or people who deserve a second chance.

So have no worry on that.

Except the next one, I'm going to ask you to roll. But I will be telling you precisely what you are rolling for next time.

It's going to be Stanly Kubrik doing something. And whether it kills him or not. :V

Ideas to purchase rights to or talk to their creators about right to animate as part of DreamWorks Peanuts and Garfield.

Both childhood classics~ plus like Disney has mickey and technically Bugs since Warner's dead shouldn't DreamWorks have its own cartoon mascot as their face?

Snoopy and Garfield seem like good contender for the job.

Well, it's true that I'm not offering an alternative. And that's because all the other options are either working for Disney or Hannah Barbera, or are too young to be given the responsability.

Then again there's Katzenberg, but it's Katzenberg after all.

Point is, I'm waiting to see if perhaps Magoose gives us another option we haven't considered, or if we just go directly for the man. Either way, I'll accept the decision of the majority, as I've always done.

True enough, and besides, perhaps it's for the best. The man knows what it's like to have his vision squashed, so he won't be likely to do the same to the animators under our employ, allowing them to explore different styles and stories, or even make some similar to Disney if they want.

...Kathleen Kennedy deserves NOTHING! (Yes, my fury is now greater after Dial of Destiny, thanks for asking.)

Perhaps we could try to create our own mascot for it. I'm partial to Puss in Boots, even if we had to make it 2D for now.

Now now now... why do you think she has become an Antagonist in this quest?

Sure it would have worked better if she had been at Universal, but we can't have nice things...

Oh well, at least it will be fun for us when she inevitably fails without Lucas, Spielberg, and others to give her a career.

Unless.

Well... I know one director... but he's from Japan so expect a Culture shock. :V

...She's gonna burrow deep in Donner for the rest of his career, isn't she? Fucking parasite. Donner deserves better, he made some good franchises during his life.

No way...you got us Noboru Ishiguro!?!?!

If you mean like Shrek Puss in Boot than so much YES! Love that character especially after last wish.

Plus considering Disney mascot is mouse ours being cat feels right ~

But yes he'd be epic mascot to have for sure. Perhaps make Donkey his wise cracking side kick or maybe the Daffy to his Bugs

Also speaking of cats believe Garfield is made or debuts next year if remember right in 78. So could make him part of DreamWorks right at start~ Heck could Garfield a cousin or descendant to puss in boots~ 😆

But peanuts been around two decades already so already got fans and follower's who might love what we do with it. I admit don't know when first Charlie brown movie or cartoon was made in RL,/OTL

That's perfectly fine, the only thing that was bothering me was that you weren't actually saying that when I asked.

True enough, and besides, perhaps it's for the best. The man knows what it's like to have his vision squashed, so he won't be likely to do the same to the animators under our employ, allowing them to explore different styles and stories, or even make some similar to Disney if they want.
He's also super passionate about preserving traditional 2D animation nowadays and I like the idea of giving him that chance.

Clearly, it has to be a goose :p

Honestly, I prefer it that way. It means that our antagonists are spread out across Hollywood and that we'll always encounter rivalries or challenges.

Just wait till you see who I planned to be our rival as an actor.

You will love it.
Got me curious for sure. It's not Jackie Chan is it? If so hope it's rivalry with respect because big fan of him and his movie and think bringing him onto Lucusfilms would be epic.

Not to mention the creation of Jackie Chan Adventures great cartoon deserve way more love than it got.

Not just Donner. Be a little creative my friend.
...Ivan Reitman?
*Gasp* Not Katsuhiro Otomo!
If you mean like Shrek Puss in Boot than so much YES! Love that character especially after last wish.
That's the one! I agree with your points, is just that if we want something that represents our animation department, it should be something that was created by said department instead of being bought.
He's also super passionate about preserving traditional 2D animation nowadays and I like the idea of giving him that chance.
I'm all for preserving 2D animation, but I just hope that doesn't make him too stubborn to look into the future when it comes to technology or even 3D animation. I think there's space enough for both.
Just wait till you see who I planned to be our rival as an actor.

You will love it.
Harrison Ford? Robert De Niro? Christopher Reeves?

Just some guessing.

Which is why I suggested that we have Dreamworks under Bluth creating 2D animated films and preserving 2D animation while Pixar(which has no reason to split or be sold off in this TL and would almost certainly remain under Lucas) serves as our 3D animation studio.

And Let There Be Fun Turn 51 Results (Febuary-March 1977)
-[X] The Head Animator of Dreamworks: Who will lead the charge for the Head Animator Spot DC: ??? Rolled:D100 => 100

Well, maybe you didn't look hard enough, because honestly, you were just frankly out of luck finding people.

Disney was keeping and hiring like Mad, and there was word that Universal itself was financing a new Animation department to match your own increase in entering the animation industry.

The fact that Disney was firing on all Cylinders, Hyping up Black Hole, and War of the Worlds was something that may have been something you wished wasn't the case.

Maybe people still didn't like working with you. Maybe you just didn't have a good enough pitch.

Then almost 12 hours later, Almost every major animator in Hollywood was after a job for Dreamworks.

And even some from Japan itself. Turns out Mike had reached out to some Animation companies in Japan, and there was quite a few young directors that was desperate for a chance.

Among many, many others.

(Continued in: Dreamworks Head of Animation and his Motley Crew of Directors)
----------------------------------------------------------

-[X] Hiring Animators: We need animators fast DC:??? Rolled:D100 => 83

Yet even without an established head, you had over 100 animators coming right in and coming to work…

Mike had almost fainted at the price tag for animators, but after he realized how much star wars money was coming in, he realized you could afford it.

Reward: You have a stable of over 100 animators now working for Dreamworks.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

-[X] All the Presidents Men: You need to convince George that maybe he can… Oh, wait he already went to produce it? Damn, that was quick. DC: 0 Rolled:D100 => 96

George had left a note in the office, one that made you realize just how excited he was for the film.

"Greenlight, and ready to get filmed"

Then he ran past you with a smile on his face.

Well, he was excited. You hadn't seen him this excited since he came to you with Star Wars.

Reward: George is producing All the President's Men…

And working for free just because he wants to.

Go, George. At least Marcia is happy that he's not hyper-focused on Star Wars.
------------------------------------

-[X] The Lot Comes up: You are going to look at what the Crew was doing at the Lot. How would it look? DC: 30 Rolled:D100 => 55
-[X] Preparing for the Shoot (Sets): This will be the inaugural sets of Lucasfilms in America, owned by Lucasfilms itself. Now to see what the mind of you and Steve can come up with for a fantasy Castle. DC: 30 Rolled:D100 => 99

Honestly, The lot itself wasn't impressive. It was only a few hundred acres, and it was under developed. It was going to take months, and even years to build the place up to the iconic statues like the Burbank lot and the Universal Studio's lot.

But damn did they hit the ground running.

Because holy hell the castle was beautiful.

Steve himself was just wearing a Star Wars hat with sunglasses, looking at it with a smile on his face. "Well, guess we can safely say we can have a siege here?" He laughed.

"Oh yeah."

The Castle itself was based on the old Arg-e-Bam, a Middle Eastern castle that was one of the oldest still standing. But with a twist of crusader castles that existed on the coast near Acre, an anachronistic design, but one that would not leave everyone confused.

Reward: While the Lot itself… leaves much to be desired.

The Set Designers and builders have absolutely did everything to change that. The Castle that was constructed was incredible, a true castle in the Middle of California.

A Castle that will be destroyed when it was all over. And you loved them for it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-[X] Preparing for The Shoot (Location): YOu and Steve and the location scouts are going to be going off to Jordan and Isreal to get the final location scouting that you need. DC: 40 Rolled:D100 => 75

It was a fine scouting.

You, Steve, and the Location guy that Steve knew, you forgot his name because he didn't really like you all that much, was more interested in working with his director.

You just stood in the background and made some points of your own. Jordan was beautiful, and the desert was breathtaking…

Yet it was in the plains of Isreal that Steve seemed to find himself immersed, not only in his spiritual homeland but one that seemed to invoke majesty within it's history. Crusader and Islamic Castles.

Temples, Mosques, and churches. It was like he was doing far more, with far more, than he could possibly imagine.

And when it was over. There was a vision in his mind. One that you were excited to be a part of.

Reward: You had a wonderful scout, and something told you that Steve has his mojo.

Unknown effect on Production.
---------------------------------------------------------

-[X] Preparing for the Shoot (Weapon Training): You and the others need to get weapons training, That means your favorite part. Learning and mastering something new and cool. DC: 40 Rolled:D100 + 30 => 113

The only one with any weapons training coming into this, was Jackie, who was struggling a little bit with the language barrier. Everyone else was just doing their level best to just look competent.

Now that however, would not do. So with Jackie's help, along with Bob Anderson, you made sure everyone was ready to fight and look good while doing it.

In the end, everyone was competent.

But you and Jackie… You were going to demand Steve let you direct the Action Scene. The fight or spar would be legendary!

Reward: You and Jackie are highly prepared and motivated, while… everyone else is at least competently trained and won't hurt themselves.

So thank god for small miracles.
----------------------------------------------

-[X] A New Neighbor: You have a new neighbor in the neighborhood, and you wonder who it is- Never mind it's Debbie… wait why is she here? Why would she move? DC: 25 Rolled:D100 => 91

When you saw the moving trucks, you honestly didn't know who it was.

And you were going to be a good neighbor and greet them, before… well you saw Debbie come running out with the agent. "Damn shame I had to get into the Five Dates Money for this, but I think it was well worth it."

Carrie was with her, and she was feeling… well excited. You were less so.

"Um, Hi Debbie, um…" You were trying to find your words. Instead, you were only hushed.

"If you must know, Carrie informed me of you two deciding to have children." You and Carrie both traded a glance of both shock and horror.

"How-" Carrie seemed to protest.

"A Mother knows sweetie." She said with a grin on her face, and both of you paled. "And I have already vowed to be a better grandmother for them, and try my best to make that happen."

"And how does being our neighbor help us?" You asked.

"You're about to go galavanting across the world making movies, and Carrie will eventually want to work. Whether it be at the screen room or back in front of the Camera. And I am perfectly capable and willing to put my career on hold for my Grandchildren. Lord knows that I have already done well enough for that." She paused and pulled both of you close. "I've made many mistakes Carrie, and I was always distant when I shouldn't have been. I'm just going to make sure you two don't make the mistakes that I have. Or failing that, make sure they have someone they can rely on."

She then laughed and let go. "But I know you both will do a good job with the whole thing. Much better than me."

Reward: Debbie has become a neighbor. And while her reasons are noble, it's still a little disheartening to think she believes you might put work before family.

But then again, it's her experience, not yours driving her.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-[X] Having Fun: You and Carrie haven't had a night on the town in some time. Perhaps that's what you both need. Just a good ole time where it's just the two of you. DC: ??? Rolled:D100 => 90+40=130

At the start of the night, it was actually nice to swim in the pool. And you were happy to watch the woman you love to dive in and try to catch you. Carrie was never the strongest swimmer, but you both knew you slowed down to let her catch you.

When she surfaced, taking a breath, she hugged you. "You know you should actually try to get away from me, you make it too easy?"

"Oh?" You smiled, as she let go and stood on her tiptoes to remain above water. "Is that a challenge Carrie?"

Carrie spat some water out of her mouth as she moved behind you to stand. "Yeah. it is."

Oh, it was. You were going to enjoy this. "You are on Carrie." You smiled, as you walked over to the wall and pulled yourself out. You could see Carrie wading towards the spot you usually swam by, and began waiting for you.

"Last Chance Carrie to amit defeat?" You smiled as you got onto the diving board.

Carrie blew a raspberry at you, water flying out from her mouth.

Her loss.

You dove in and made impact. Moving through the water you felt around where she would be.

Then you felt her feet and grabbed her. She had moved too slow, and you pulled her under… then you realized you were shallow enough to stand, and you grabbed her other leg and placed her on your shoulders, before standing up.

"PACK!" Carrie coughed as you carried her on your shoulders. "No fair!"

"I told you." You smiled as you stood up, as she balanced on your shoulders. "How's the view?"

You could tell Carrie was blushing. "Not as good as the view you will have."

Hmm… then she forced herself back, and you allowed yourself to tip backward into your pool.

When you both surfaced and your eyes opened, Carrie was hugging you on the back, and you turned around. "I love you." She whispered as she leaned in.

"I know." You kissed her, not caring about the taste of her lips or the chlorine in her mouth. It was perfect.

Reward: You and Carrie have a fun time, destressing and relaxing.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

-[X]Investments: You want to invest your hard-earned cash into something that you feel will be a good return on investment. And as well as diversify your assets DC: 0 (Linetail what you wish to invest in below this action, and the amount of money you want to invest in)
--[X] Purchase adaptation rights for Basil of Baker Street. $800,000 Rolled:D100 => 84

It all began, with you babysitting your niece while Cat was in town. You didn't know how you were stuck with her, but you were unlucky because Debbie and Carrie were both out for the night.

And Cat told you her little girl, was not watching movies or TV.

Which leads you to try and scrounge for books. But all the books you had were far too adult for her.

Which lead to you going to Debbie's house to find out if she had any things.

And you found Basil of Baker Street, a forgotten hardcover in a box that was still being unpacked.

You would later learn that Debbie had accidentally bought a few children's books when trying to buy some memorabilia, and the books were in the box they came in, and she promptly forgot about them.

You fell in love with it, same for your niece, and when everyone came back, you had both fallen asleep reading it.

After a quick call, you had purchased the film rights for Basil of Baker Street.

You had learned, much to your surprise, that Disney had tried to purchase the rights to it and had almost gotten a deal, but were told off after you paid more.

Reward: Basil of Baker Street can now be adapted.
