Why are people wanting to put the Conspiracy and our Shade at risk?

Why aren't people thinking about ways to steer the conversation towards the innocuous? There's plenty of material around human ki users, and that doesn't risk secrets we aren't prepared to reveal.

In short, we're talking as little as practical about the Sealing and Dandeer, avoiding it like most tweens would avoid unpleasant topics.

I'm open to feedback on this, and will change the plan if it is lacking. The general thrust of it will not deviate from what I've indicated above: clam up about the stuff that risks the Conspiracy, don't reveal our Sight, and focus as much as practical on human-Saiyan interactions, how they've been, how they're changing, and where we want them to go.

Fren is fishing for a story here, and likely won't intentionally antagonize us, but definitely WILL pounce on anything we dangle by mistake.

Please, let's go this way.

I agree with your priorities, but I would rather just not talk at all about the Sealing directly, which may well send the message that Kakara regrets or opposes it given how furious Dandeer is at her.

The other difference is that I suspect that Papata has a prepared item on the agenda. She's a Vegetan whose reaction to finding out that Jaron can manifest a nontrivial power level was "But something else happened. Scion Jaffur -- or his Masque, whatever the hell is going on there -- broke through. Powered up to three hundred thousand and took out the leader with Scion Kakara. What I wouldn't have given to have seen it... It doesn't look like the Seal is broken, but something happened. Maybe Jaron Somerlad is more important than anybody gave him credit for."

She's gonna ask questions about Jaron, specifically. Let's be prepared to answer those questions, while refusing to talk directly about the Seal.

It's pretty much inevitable that we'll have to make a Deceit check there. But this is something we are practiced at and have had to say many times.

To be fair, if we make a Deceit check that involves us just stonewalling with "no comment," and we lose, all Papata can conclude is that we don't want to talk about it and aren't comfortable with the official story. For that matter, so is she.

Given the basic assumption that she's not specifically planning to rip us to shreds on the air, she may read things into that or make loaded comments, but we're not giving away anything critical and we're NOT on record saying it's a good thing Jaffur was Sealed in front of a hundred thousand Vegetans who feel very much the opposite.

EDIT:

It's like, if we try to deliver the official story Papata sees that our mask is slipping and is going to start asking direct questions, because she WANTS any dirt on the Sealing and probably has an anti-Sealing agenda herself.

If we stonewall, she may speculate about what that means on the air, but she's going to have fewer launchpads to start asking us questions that would force us into a direct lie.

One thing we should consider is that she may be planning to push an anti-Sealing agenda and probably believes that we're pro-Sealing ourselves, because of the official story.

I can just imagine her asking: "It's hardly a secret that you and Lady Vegeta don't get along well. But you famously helped her Seal away her son, Scion Jaffur, five years ago. Do you regret that decision?"

We can also say something along the lines, "My Father said already: 'yadda yadda yadda' and that's all been public knowledge for ever." If we aren't actually lying, but simply saying what someone else has said, we're not really answering the question, but it's a fine enough distinction that most people won't notice. Probably won't take Deceit, or will give us a decent situation bonus.

The distractions will also help.

And nothing about the sub-votes on that is a lie: Some things ARE unpleasant but necessary. We DO hope to spar with Jaffur again. The most recent spar (or just 'that fight', meaning the one we're thinking about) was one of the most fun, since we could go all-out!

So we aren't being deceitful, we are just communicating!

I don't know if this is a good thing, actually? I remember somewhere that Berra commented on how the masquerade and keeping secrets from the human Friends was hard for everyone when we brought up the chance of telling Maya about the saiyans and that us training her was already something that might make the other siayans think of favoritism. With the partial fall of the masquerade, training humans is now a possibility BUT it is something they have to ask Berra to be able to do so and our petition was fast tracked by virtue of being Scion. So I don't think it is wise to bring attention to it.

Why this? What do you hope to accomplish with this? If you give her an opening like that she can say that we didn't give all information to Vegeta when asking permission to train Jaron and it might get Berra to panic and say we shouldn't train him.

I'm tentatively supporting the broad strokes of tweenhard II or the variant, but there's one issue I think isn't being addressed: Maya.

We aren't planning for questions about Maya's status as a mutant and the impacts -- positive or negative -- her presence and training has on the masquerade. I think it's important we plan for it to come up.

To some, her presence and training represents a risk to saiyan society as a whole.
To others, her being human could be beneficial for masking saiyan presence.

Maya is now a public figure to both saiyans and humans. An official story would be out there, but probably not our own take on her existence and our decisions.

Edit: I bet there are other topics we're not thinking about which might come up. I encourage people to consider what has come up in-story that isn't already amongst the topics.
The Senzu? What is our relationship with Yammar?

How do we react if something new comes up? (E.g an emerging issue or something novel that Fren has discovered?)

Hmmm. That's actually a valid criticism. This bears further discussion, since I don't want us to come across as pro-Sealing, I want us to come across as being not-subtly unhappy about Jaffur's Sealing and unwilling to talk about it.

Would it even be a "caller" question sort of thing? The interview is in a platform in the hall.

Your father's words echo in your mind as you step across the stage, raising your hand to the crowd. Live audience indeed -- Miss Fren decided to reserve part of the Training Hall's public area for this. The same Hall presently doubling as a refugee camp for most of the saiyan race.

She only reserved exactly as much space as she needed.

The stage is a raised platform, massive in scope, with you and Miss Fren reduced to tiny pinpricks against the sheer size of it. There's a screen erected in back -- at the moment, it shows a zoomed-in version of your face, as a too-fast-to-follow glance back reveals.

So, uh, yeah. That's in there twice now.

What do people think about my suggestion of using our knowledge of Vegetan protocols to try to guide her responses to us? I don't think it's a high risk of negative consequences, but I haven't heard anyone else comment on it.
