[ ][ORDERS] Do as Dad said, and glue yourself to Jaron throughout the fight.

[ ][IFF] Engage only those scouts which you can confirm as actively hostile.

[?][AIM] Fight to withdraw you and your friends from the press and help the teams protecting the civilians.
[?][AIM] Forget the fight; make certain that the four scouts showing signs of trying to figure out what to do don't join the fight. Get them to surrender.

I say Jaron, engaging hostiles and making sure they surrender.

I'm glad it at least partially worked. Not only do we have more potential sources of information on the wider galaxy, but it helps prove to Kakara that peaceful means can work. Not always, and not necessarily completely, but enough that it should give her pacifism some validation.

And yeah, Jaron, Hostiles and talk them down seems a good plan.

Aw man. At least we tried, and as long as we don't take civvie casualties, I'd still call today a victory.

[ ][ORDERS] Do as Dad said, and glue yourself to Jaron throughout the fight.
[ ][ORDERS] You can act more freely if you leave Jaron behind. He should be safe enough.

Jaron has enough Power to not get oneshot, but he has very little combat ability and I don't really trust him in a fight. Honestly, I don't see how Jaffur's magical empowering of him wasn't a mistake. It didn't really help anything since we were gonna lose the fight either way without really powering up, and there is going to be some very uncomfortable questions.

[ ][IFF] Engage all of the scouts. Everything is hostile.
[ ][IFF] Do not engage the three you convinced.
[ ][IFF] Engage only those scouts which you can confirm as actively hostile.

Didn't we convince four? Either way, definitely only engage those that are hostile.

[ ][AIM] Fight to withdraw you and your friends from the press and help the teams protecting the civilians.
[ ][AIM] Target the bruiser and get her out of the fight before she does serious damage.
[ ][AIM] Go straight for the leader.
[ ][AIM] Forget the fight; make certain that the four scouts showing signs of trying to figure out what to do don't join the fight. Get them to surrender.
[ ][AIM] Write-in.

I'd think either protect civilians or make sure that those scouts stay out of the fight. Daddy has the combat aspect handled.

We're going to have to protect Jarod. Despite the convenience of 300,000, he's still squishy.
Also, in a combat situation, Dad's our superior. We're just going to have to trust that he knows a hell of a lot more about this soldier business than a barely pubescent teenager.
So...
Protect Jarod, Engage only the actively hostile scouts, and fight to protect the civilians and the non-hostile scouts.

And it's pretty clear that at least Maya's getting a lot more of the beans than anyone would have liked.
Jarod might find out that there are superpowered monkey aliens. But definitely not that he is one. Which is delightfully ironic, really.

I think my vote's gonna look like

[-][ORDERS] Do as Dad said, and glue yourself to Jaron throughout the fight.
[-][IFF] Engage only those scouts which you can confirm as actively hostile.

I am very much torn on the AIM vote. Still open to suggestions and ideas.

Yeah. Especially since we didn't get mobbed and beaten while stuck at low power levels.

One, asking Jaffur to stay out of the fight entirely would be more than he could bear, given that he has some ability to act through Jaron as a proxy. Two, the powerup at least ensures Jaron won't go 'splat' if hit by a stray ki blast, which is frankly a very real risk even with Kakara playing bodyguard- and Jaffur wouldn't have wanted to assume Kakara would be playing bodyguard.

Didn't we convince four? Either way, definitely only engage those that are hostile.
Looks like out of twelve scouts, we convinced three. We got another four to have major second thoughts to the point where they might surrender without being beaten into submission.

While I support this idea for now, I will note that Berra is in the process of teaching Kakara everything he knows about tactics and troop command (a fair amount, but not a lot). Arguably he has already done so. The main area where Berra had a huge gap of knowledge compared to Kakara isn't tactics, it's politics.

As to Jarod? No, he's not squishy, not in the sense that we've been using the term in this thread. 'Squishy" means you can die or be crippled just from a stray chunk of rubble, that a single punch or blast from a ki warrior will pulverize your body before you can even perceive it. "Squishy" is what you get when your power level is, say, 1% of your opponent. At 50%? Not so much. That's vulnerable, but it's not squishy.

(personally this spoils nothing because I lack sufficient familiarity with canon, so don't feel bad on my count, but: )

It's probably best to remove this post if you're speaking as to spoilers mentioned in private.
...What if Jaffur's style isn't new? We already know it can condense your ki to make you stronger than should be possible. And some of it's attacks are downright lethal.

Did Endivan use/know Jaffurs style?
"Some?" As for the rest:

Found the relevant quotes.

These options seem strong together.

[ ][AIM] Fight to withdraw you and your friends from the press and help the teams protecting the civilians.

The scouts are already off balance. Show your commitment to your words by acting on them to protect people and only fight those that attack. Leaving a positive impression in the survivor's minds may be worth a great deal in further turns. As a perk, fighting in the defense of others will also work within our personal beliefs and avoid possible penalties.

[][AIM] Write-in. Use your superlative Ki control! Stay near Jaron, but make liberal use of Ki blasts to draw and deflect ranged attacks into the sky, instead of letting said blasts land in, on, or near friendlies or spectators. Instead of meeting the blasts head-on with your own, try to refract or nudge the ranged attacks of others into a configuration better suited to your desires. Not all fights are won with berserk charges.

This is Ki Projection, not Ki Control.

Let me stress that the bonuses expended on these rolls were not wasted. They allowed you to push four of the scouts over the edge into indecisiveness. You knocked the majority of the unit out of the fight through peaceful means. Let me also say that calling Meerak was not a trap. When rolls fail, I have to depict how and why they did, and I decided that in this case, the failed roll to force a surrender happened because the leader was outraged by Meerak's attempted mediation rather than soothed. Had the roll succeeded, it would have worked. It didn't, and I decided that that would be the turning point.
How much did we fail by and what was the DC? Have to admit I thought our odds we're at least 50% before we started getting all the new bonuses.

Again, I'm not out to trap or railroad you. This is just a normal failure on an nigh-impossible task.
Did seem nigh-impossible before. I think we had a very different understanding of the odds.

And Kakara will be a fine commander some day. But right now she is a young girl that barely has any experience with fights to the death; one that froze up in her most recent (and first) battle with lives on the line.

There is a significant difference between a commander that knows, logically, that people will die and that sometimes you will have to make tough choices, but hasn't had to make those choices or order those deaths yet; and one who not only has made those choices and given those orders, but has literally decades of experience backing this up.

Note that I'm just arguing in favor of letting Kakara fight if she needs to, but specifically in a way that doesn't mess with the battle plan of her father because it is a good plan that will work better if all of the people in it follows what it says, instead of having one of them think they know better, countermand the orders, and take unnecessary risks.

When I have Kakara note that she's not even sure that something is possible in the vote options, that's me as QM saying that there's no guarantee that it even is; and if it is, that DC is going to be insane. In this case you blew it by 40. Beyond even cookies.

I am very much torn on the AIM vote. Still open to suggestions and ideas.

I'm torn between protecting the civilians and convincing the four to surrender both for in-character and out-of-character reasons, but I think I'll be going with the surrender option. There's a team of people protecting the civilians already, but there's nobody else in as good of a position to help the scouts who can still be helped. I'd like to see Kakara's attempts at negotiation bear as much fruit as possible so that she feels it wasn't a waste.

Moratorium over.

By the way, since Kakara kind of looks like a chibi Android 18, here is a picture of her that I found:

Karen Marsden? What do you think?

I agree -- in addition to being the only person that can negotiate them down, it's 9 versus however many if she doesn't or 5 versus however many soldiers Berra has if she does.
