So I was looking at Berra's character sheet and noticed this:

Did Berra go from Expert to Master by improving the style with Instant Transmission, and if so, is that a prerequisite for Mastering a style? If it is a prerequisite, can we fulfil it with Perfect Multiform - It would surely change the style, going from "only use Multiform in these specific circumstances" to "you should always use this".

EDIT: Merged a doublepost. Also, is that last combat check going to be "did we accidentally kill him?" Cause that would suck.

That was his contribution, but doesn't have to be yours. In his case, it helped that he was redefining the role of a style rather than introducing a new one. You could try doing so with Tien Style. That said, Mastery can also simply be ground up toward over years and years; doing something innovative is only necessary if you want mastery sooner.

As KaintukeeBob mentioned, you specifically disclaimed lethal force, and thus don't have to worry about it outside of very specific circumstances.

Said another way...this combat isn't going well enough for you to have to worry about accidentally killing your opponent.

What do you mean by "redefining the role of a style"? Do you mean the role of a skill, or did his innovation literally make Goku Style perform a different role? Either way, I'm pretty sure PM would work.

Speaking of character sheets- in Jaffur's abilities section, [Sorcerer, Untrained] reads: "From conversations with Jaffur's Uncle Dandelor,"... and nothing else. I'm assuming that this is just a case of an unfinished segment, and not intimating that he got magical powers from talking to Dandelor.

Because we've talked to Dandelor too and didn't walk away with any nifty magical powers...

I almost feel gypped.:p

...huh. Could've sworn I finished writing that...

The lesson I learned today is to not make complicated battle plans of all the things we have to do before we actually fight him. Just beat the fuck out of him right away, and stop trying to be clever.

Or at least, if you're going to do a bunch of things stop and consider how many of those things are going to require rolls to do. Talking is sometimes a free action, after all.

So...Cabba couldn't get his back towards us.

We powered up, and he charged us, getting in a surprise strike instead of being taken by surprise.

We targetted his scouter, but he's good enough that we can't hit it.

Maya showed up and maybe killed him.

Jaron revealed that he's secretly Jaffur, and has been awake this whole time.

Dad declared himself Emperor of Garenhuld, with the Saiyans as his noble class.

Vegeta returned from the dead (again) to be crowned King (finally), and revealed he was secretly the Enemy the whole time.

And Sophie got a kitten! How cute!

That is the end of my predictions for the update.

That's pretty unlikely, Sophie has abandonment issues - she'd be much more of a dog person, I think.

On a separate note,

Gemma sighs, pushing her book away. "Come on, Sophie. You don't need to spy to figure out why Maya would want to spend lots of time with Karen."

Sophie giggles. "Okay, yeah, that's fair."

Jaron cocks his head, frowning. "...huh?"

Jenny snorts. "What you haven't figured it out?"

Jaron's frown deepens into a scowl. "What are you talking about?"

"What are they talking about?" you say, looking at Sensei.

He rolls his eyes and says nothing.

"Boys," says Gemma, going back to her book.

"You'll figure it out, Jaron," says Sophie, still giggling. She pats him on the hand. "Eventually."

Jaron glares at them all. "Come on, what is it? Tell me!"

This got overshadowed, but the female contingent of the Misfits are quite confident that Maya has a crush on us. So, you know, preteen drama.

Didn't we already know that though?
No, wait, I suppose we didn't know it was obvious to everyone else too.
I was timing how long it would take for the thread to discuss literally anything else about the last update other than the scout. Sure, people mentioned the preteen fluff, but never really in the context of actual discussion. It was so amusing from my end.

*clicks stopwatch* Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand fifteen pages. I was wondering how long it'd take. :lol

In my defense, that was my immediate interpretation, it was just completely overshadowed by other considerations.

Didn't we already know that though?
No, wait, I suppose we didn't know it was obvious to everyone else too.

Its not something that I picked up on until now. Partially because of how young Maya is.

No, detailing your objectives was fine. The trouble was the dependencies.
So making plans in which each action can stand separate instead of depending on the results of the previous ones?
Or our father. Especially if we throw him under the bus.
I don't feel comfortable with that idea. He is our ally and father. That kind of thing should be done by proxies and deniable assets as it would lower our credibility otherwise.

Dandeer's family took a sudden and unexpected vacation.
You both freeze as Jenny, Gemma, Sophie, and Jaron pile in,
Poor Jaron.

Bad enough it is that his father is never home, now his mom abandoned to go on vacation with his sister.

The lesson I learned from this is that there is no such thing as overkill when power levels are concerned, so we should always go big or go home. Unless it is ilegal, in which case we should wait until we are the legislative body to do so.

Also that an officer in the field outranks a general in the rear. And that when discussing plans we should always make a breakdown of how many bonus apply so that we can show when a method has something like a +45 to rolls or so, since that is an effective way to shut down discussions as opposed to trying to convince others based on ideals not all of us share.

Also, that if you don't like a plan but it is gathering support, you should make a similar one that looks more through, uses the methods people like but eliminates the consecuences you don't in order to undermine it.

That is, like, 6 lessons already. We are well on our way to an episodic child show!

We couldn't because of Maya, but yeah - a higher PL is almost always good.

I support this.

Please, please don't start metagaming the planning process - if one side does, it every side has to do it and we all end up with more effort, more divisions and worse plans.

Unfortunatly we don't know how much of a bonus any of our traits give. We can only say how many apply.
