We explicitly also have better defense against them if we crush organized crime now so that new bosses can't just move in and take over an existing hierarchy. I'd rather just, y'know, be rid of those organizations.
Except that vote also explicitly says that something else may creep in later. It's not a one and done deal.

Except we're explicitly being told that crushing organized crime does make it harder, not easier, for other organized crime rings to move in on us. It's in the action effect descriptions. "Significant malus."

[X]Plan: Let's Maximize Our Results (But Morally)

We explicitly also have better defense against them if we crush organized crime now so that new bosses can't just move in and take over an existing hierarchy. I'd rather just, y'know, be rid of those organizations.

Historically we have repeatedly chosen 'crush' over 'assimilate' even though 'crush' was always harder. Right now, a lot of people are voting for 'assimilate' because it's bundled with something else they want (the Toon Railroad), but that doesn't mean they'd favor it in isolation.

If I were in @Habstab 's shoes, I'd be considering compromising on this issue; he's losing a share of his voter base.

It might be funny, but if a bunch of our hero units get pissed off and demoralized and drop loyalty even if they don't desert, it's going to be a major nuisance.
thing is there alreaddy is a thing that's exactly the same except replacing Assimilate with crush (your voting it) yet currently the normal version is still in the lead. there really is no reason to switch since the vote for the alternative alreaddy exists

[x]Plan: Prepare for Tomorrow

I'd like to not do two quests at once.
That's actually an aspect of their plan that I like.

The argument basically comes down to we'll never stop crime
There is a major difference between organized crime and crime.

Saying we'll never stop crime is true, but the action is focusing specifically on organized crime. A random mugger or person stealing from a convenience store is regular crime that would happen no matter what, and thus shouldn't be used to determine how we react to organized crime.

Except that vote also explicitly says that something else may creep in later. It's not a one and done deal.
We have no reasonable expectation that our control of the criminal underworld will be immune to outside infiltration, either, though.

Judge Doom's wasn't.

...The alternative has picked up several votes because there are people who are willing to risk splitting the vote rather than endorse "assimilate crime." I'm one of them.

The point is that the Maximize Party has a sizeable wing that, despite the new alternative plan arising later, has chosen to break off to support it. This suggests significant numbers of people care. Plans like this usually don't get more than like 1-3 votes' worth of traction if people do not, on the whole, care about the issue in question.

I'm recommending compromise because I think the popularity of the alternative vote is great enough that if I'm an 'assimilate' voter who strongly desires that the rest of my plan win, I'm more likely to make that happen by compromising on 'assimilate/crush.'

No, but this way it'll be abundantly clear if someone else does move in, and with the underworld contacts we may have an easier time pushing them back out than if we were completely cut off from the underworld.

And with the underworld contacts, we might pick up word if someone else is poking around before they act, which would let us stop them from taking over Doofania's underworld in the first place.

It's not bullet-proof, but ultimately, I think we'll have better control over our underworld if we control our underworld.

All the people saying they'd pick the Moral maximize plan if it gained steam would actually cause the plan to gain steam if they just switched to it now lol. You can always switch back before midnight (MiH projected vote close time) if it doesn't look like it'll win by then.

Yeah. Right now we have 24 'Maximize assimilate' votes, many of them from when it was the only viable Toontown Railroad plan on offer, and 9 'Maximize crush' votes, all from the last two hours.

When an alternate variant of a plan can grab a quarter of its voteshare in two hours, it's got respectable momentum.

or just you know, approval vote it if that's allowed. is that allowed actually?
I don't want to approval vote because that results in 'assimilate' winning when I really don't want it to and don't think the majority of the voterbase even wants it to. it's getting approved because it's bundled with other stuff and because now that it has bandwagon status people don't want to risk losing out to a non-Toontown Railroad plan.

Citation needed.

We already found out they're moving in on areas far outside our territory without them, why would them moving in on our territory (which Ross is ferociously watching) be harder to detect.

If they try to move in on our territory Khan can scream in their faces and go splat. We don't need some nameless low stat goons when we've already got so many great hero units, especially when many of our units wouldn't approve and would lower their loyalty stats.

i meant the people who would switch if it got more traction could approval vote and see if it get's traction without having the plan lose voters

No, we know that "somebody" is moving. We have zero other intel on them; any of them. We have complete blindness as to who the underworld movers and shakers are, and that will eventually bite us in the ass.

Oh so these secretive people are just going to tell their identities to the people they send into our territory?

We can already detect their movements. Identifying them is the job of Ross, Mirage or one of our inventions, recruiting regular criminals (rather than the goofy LOVEMUFFIN sort) is just a liability.

Okay, first; cut the condescending tone. Second, their minions will talk. When gangs brush up against gangs, someone inevitably says something that can clue a good spymaster in on who those gangs belong to. Trying to threaten a rival with a higher-up, the way they talk, even the way they dress. All of that can clue you in on who they may be working for. But if we crush crime? We have none of those potential insights.

To be fair there has been condescending tones on all sides of this argument lol.

Besides we can focus on developing a spy network next turn to find out more about these underground threats if Crush wins over Assimilating.

When gangs turn up in an area they inevitably talk to each other and the people they're threatening.

They'll still be threatening people with the wrath of the same higher ups.

They'll still talk and dress the same way.
