Syndrome Negaverse when?

Now that our plan has worked can we send some Norm bots to loot? Actually Shego is giving us a share right? Then I don't think we need to do amything to vet some rewards. We already got what we came for anyway.
I don't think we should have our Normbots anywhere near Royal Pain and we'll have to look over any tech we get from this gala just in case she's messed with it

Also we have confirmation of Syndromes Intrigue stat now so we know that it wasn't him that leaked the plans to us
That just leaves more questions on who our informant is to help us with the heist.

And with all this chaos and the Omnidroids being down we might be able to grab some tech before we leave
Well I hope we steal something actually good and not just good for Doofenshmirtz.

You recognize one of them right off the bat. It's that ninja sushi chef you interviewed a couple months ago, only this time she's got her hair up and is holding a katana instead of a pair of knives. You resist the temptation to wave.
Well looks like we missed out on hiring the theif, we best check to see if the other Heroes/Villains are still available after this turn.

Syndrome is up on stage, furiously gnashing his teeth at the thought of his precious party being ruined by the very thing he hates the most. Without wasting even a second, he points his finger at the group and a shimmering blue beam of light flies across the room!

Syndrome Martial Check: 63+42=105
Voyd Contest Check: 100+40+28+10=178
Voyd Critical Success!

The woman waves her hands to create a pair of green portals midair! One of them is directly in front of her and the other one is high in the air, pointing down towards Syndrome at an angle. The zero point energy beam comes within an inch of her before it exits through the other portal, freezing Syndrome in place! He has just enough time for his face to twist in shocked fury before it sticks like that.
Voyd's portal powers are indeed a good counter to enemies with beam weapons and a short temper. Getting to play "Quit hitting yourself!" with Syndrome is very satisfying.

Also, Syndrome has Martial 42; this is almost certainly because of the exceptional capabilities his tech gadgets give him. I suspect we might become surprisingly formidable with that power armor option, for similar reasons.

Momakase kicks off of one of the walls to slash at one of the omnidroids that is still warming up, blade at the ready!

Momakase Martial Check: 79+28+20=127
Omnidroid Contest Check: 68+25+10=103
Momakase Success!

The ninja chops the arms and legs off of the killer robot like they were warm butter. It's not quite out of commission yet, but it is extremely hampered.
Hm. We're seeing recurring +28s between Momakase and Voyd. I wonder what the underlying mechanics are. Omnidroids don't seem to benefit directly from Syndrome's Martial stat. Alternatively, much of that Martial 42 comes from a trait related to his tech, that enhances him in personal combat but doesn't make him better at directing minions. Also, he's frozen solid from his own beam, so he may just be out of the fight entirely.

The remainder of the southern wall fails to exist as an obscenely large mecha created of… slot machines?... forces its way into the gala room. The thing looks like a gigantic crudely built mechanical owl crawling around on spider legs, bristling with neon lights and leaking casino chips. The man at the helm is none other than the dirty hillbilly who was talking with Xanatos earlier!

McGucket Martial Check: 71+12+45=128
Omnidroid Contest Check: 77+25+10=112
McGucket Success!

The old man pulls a lever on the one-armed bandit he's riding on, and a massive torrent of chips starts to shoot out of the owl's mouth! You watch, a little impressed, as they strike the Omnidroid… and do absolutely nothing. Come on, what did you expect? It's a bunch of metal chips going up against armor rated for anti-super combat. What you don't notice is a few of the chips slipping inside the cracks around the eye and arm sockets, jamming themselves into crucial components and short-circuiting the thing in an incredibly shocking display of sparks.

Shego blinks. "Wait a second. I never hired him."

"I does it for freeeeeee!!!!" the man cries as his giant slot machine owl spider flaps its wings and, inexplicably, takes to the air over the atrium.
Thaaaat sounds about right.

"Say." Xanatos asks slowly. "Earlier tonight, I happened to notice a balcony on the second floor with an excellent view of the central gala."

"And?" Toffee asks.

"What do you say we withdraw to the wings and… take in the show?"

Shere Khan smiles like… well, like a cat. "D'you know, I think that sounds rather pleasant."

Toffee stands up. "I happen to have a few bottles of corn-malt whiskey, if you two would like a glass."

"How is it?" Xanatos asks.

"Oh, out of this world." Toffee responds.
Exquisite.

Panels on the walls open up as omnidroids start to pour out, attempting to curtail the chaos! One of them goes straight for the portal lady, presumably prioritizing Syndrome's well-being over anything else.

Omnidroid Martial Check: 63+25+10=98
Voyd Contest Check: 58+28= 86
Omnidroid Success!
Hm. Voyd herself only has Martial 28, I guess. The Martial 40 was probably from whoever was the team lead for this operation.

The Omnidroid rockets straight for the portaler, forcing her to use her power to zip herself away. Apparently she can only keep one portal set up at once, because as she does so the one redirecting Syndrome's zero point back at him fades. Syndrome takes a gasping breath, shaking with panic and fury as he realizes his gala is in ruins and he is quickly running out of options. Looking around, he realizes the guards sent to bring up the chip have just arrived.

Syndrome Intrigue Check: Should he be suspicious of using the Chip?
DC 75 needed: 30+30+10(Enemies at the gala) -25 (Silent heist-no alarms risen) -25 (Needs backup NOW!) -15 (Tech subverted)=5
Incredible Failure!
:D

OK, Syndrome Intrigue somewhere around 30. Not that it mattered. Xanatos would have failed that check, though to be fair, Xanatos would probably have had better security. :p

The lights in the building dim, and each of the Omnidroids in the room slump to the floor like puppets with their strings cut. As Mirage quite smugly points out to you, robotic security forces throughout the entire city of Vegas are doing the same.

A tinny, annoying voice echoes out of the speakers on the Omnidroid with the chip embedded in it. "Hello, and thank you for installing ENCOM Centennial Edition! It looks like you are having some problems. Would you like help with that?"

Syndrome stares at the robot in horror.

His scream of rage can be heard even over the chaos on the floor.
Exquisite.

So I wonder if Syndrome is going to declare war against the ENCOM for this.
It might well be that ENCOM actually does take over the place due to having a backdoor in fucking every robot the man has, and anything the robots can connect to, behind any and all existing defenses and firewalls. Even if the initial effect is mostly just terribly banal, if still terrible, these are still players in the great game of Evil.

The installation may be as hard to get rid of as McAfee.

"I must say you gentlemen are taking this rather well." Khan notes.

"I could say the same of you."

Khan frowns. "I have… experience in dealing with so-called 'superheroes' and their antics."

Toffee nods in response. "I suppose it has livened up the evening."

A poker table goes flying in the background as the pompadour'd brute smashes through the slot machines.

This whole exchange is, of course, brilliant, but it's also quite an adept maneuver on Xanatos's part. It accomplishes three things:

1) Most obviously, it gets him out of the line of fire in a way that makes it seem as though he's completely in control of the entire situation, instead of just running away. He is running away - that's the smart move, when one finds oneself in the middle of a warzone - but it doesn't seem like he is, and that's important.

2) As Shere Khan has just pointed out, it's rather suspicious that none of the three of them are reacting to any of this, and they three are known to be the most subtle of the Kings. It's natural either of the other two would suspect Xanatos, and that he would suspect them. Isolating them allows Xanatos to keep an eye on them both. If they seem on the up and up, they have a wonderful evening and may come out of it potential business partners, and if either of them don't, well, Xanatos knows what's going on. More information is always better.

3) Xanatos knows the other two have figured 2) as well, only of course from their perspective, and they know Xanatos has as well. Being the first to offer up the plan without actually offering it implies a certain level of trust, magnanimity, and willingness to play on even terms, all of which will help solidify Xanatos's reputation as someone to do business with.

Toffee has likely run through the same ideas in his head, but Xanatos was just a bit quicker in thinking of a good way to get them all alone and out of trouble, probably because he is mortal and Toffee isn't; there's that edge of self-preservation in Xanatos's idea.

Shere Khan has probably also run through these ideas, but ... I think he genuinely doesn't care about not seeming a suspect, or finding out who's behind this? I think he legitimately wants to watch the show.

I mean, she might just be here as a mercenary who'll leave after getting her pay day. And, even of she is, we could always either brobe her to join us, or, if we decide to really view Shego as Most Hated Enemy, defeat her and get Momakase on our pay roll. Plus, we have to keep in mind that Shego likes and favors people with actual powers, while Momakase just has some cool swords. So she could very well be paying Momakase a minimal amount of money if she's a permanent hire.

Basically, I doubt we've lost access to Momakase forever. Though I do suggest trying to recruit her next turn if we're able to. Just to make sure.

I find it amusing/awesome that McGucket somehow wired up the slot machines into a spider-owl abomination without any of Syndrome's security trying to stop him. I mean, the attack just started, so they weren't distracted with that. Shine on you crazy hillbilly diamond.

The main issue with that is that the Centennial ENCOM program doesn't work, no matter how good MCP is he can't control something using a network full of errors that render it completely unusable

So how humiliate is Syndrome going to be once he realizes that the livestream could be playing and letting Criminals/Supers know that his robots aren't working in Vegas.

Syndrome Martial Check: 63+42=105
Voyd Contest Check: 100+40+28+10=178
It is kind of sad to see Voyd here working for Shego. In The Incredables 2 she was so optimistic, and exited at the idea of being a hero and using her powers to help people even after having to hide them and be told her powers were bad her entire life. Now here she is working as a supervillain. Just goes to show how hard Syndrome has been going against supers. I kind of want to hire her just to help her out.

Ah, seeing Syndrome suffer after all the buildup truly is the best. Especially how all his plans got ruined in front of the other Kings. He's going to be laughingstock of the Supervillain community for a while after this.

Anybody know who the other villains are? Such as the pompadour guy?

I thought about that, and concluded it's possible that she is still a hero. Shego could have just assembled the team and convinced her that striking a villain would be unambiguously good, much like how Doof convinced Russ that defanging Syndrome would help the US.

If the man ever figures out that Doof is one of the key players that helped pull this whole thing off i think his head might explode.

'Subtle Planner' is not something one thinks of when the name Heinz Doofenschmirtz comes up and it would likely raise Xanatos's threat rating of Heinz dramatically.

*sees the total chaos throughout the chapter*
My God... IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!!

*sees McGucket's spider-owl-slot machine ABOMINATION*
THAT is why I want McGucket.

And finally, the only thing I have to say about Syndrome using the chip.
Is to quote THE indecisive mollusk himself.......
JUST. AS. PLANNED.

Xanatos, Toffee, and Khan hanging out together, either a new shadow war will be starting soon, or a shadowy world conquest plan
