Or rather, "because they Decided to do IT in the Most destructive, idiotic And self-aggrandizing was possible And expect US to let them continue doing that despite the horrendous damage caused"
Obviously they decided to do it in the most destructive, idiotic, and self-aggrandizing way possible, it's LOVEMUFFIN for crying out loud! And they expect us to let them continue doing this, because back when Doofenshmirtz himself created LOVEMUFFIN, this sort of random destruction is exactly what he made the organization for, it's what he did on a daily basis. I mean, just read their acronym, it's in the name.

Mad Science is the construction of those devices. The associated schemes are usually Mad Application at best. Like, you don't call everyone who's ever shot someone with a death ray a mad scientist, right? Only the ones who build the death ray themselves. And if someone builds a death ray that the hero destroys before it fires, they're still a mad scientist. The building is the important part, not the using.
Aah, but usually the mad application is what motivates the mad science in the first place (or at least, it puts the "mad" in the name). Anyone who is capable of warping all the laws of creation through unusually potent technology is almost contractually obligated to use it for utterly frivolous pursuits. Otherwise, you're dealing with superscience and that one is both more stable and usually much more grounded in what it can casually do.

Maybe, but in the end Doof did what everyone does when they dream of doing wacky stuff 24/7 and not give a fuck about the consequences...

*He woke up and realized, that stuff like that is no fun when it´s happening to you while you are just trying to make ends meet and be halfway-respected*

That´s the "Original Position fallacy" for you.

Let´s be honest:

In the long run LMs idea of "letting their brillance shine" was incompatible with our idea of "running a functional, semi-independent fiefdom". The only way we could have met them half-way between our two areas of interest would have been to ignore their "free" Learning slot once the "easy & Mad-Sciency" stuff started drying up and instead use them as our go-to Henchmen for the "Commit Supervillainy" actions once we made sure that it can´t be traced back to us - I totally admit that we squandered that opportunity for a "turn-around" back during Jan/Feb 2017, when even they couldn´t realistically fail at that and would have crit-suceeded on everything not a 1.

But by NOW, the ship named "U.S.S Successfully-Balance-The-Interests-Of-LM-And-DEI-With-Each-Other" has sailed and crashed against Danvilles Disappearing-And-Reppearing-Lighthouse-of-Narrative-Convenience. Now we just have to own up to our mistake of completly misshandling LM while trying to salvage the rest by arresting them.

Nah, we tried stuff to help them but got abysmal rolls on them.

The only stuff we actually screwed up was not giving them riskier research to try (for obvious reasons) and not being specific enough with the write in.

We should have said for them to do research in one of our learning options that they would find interesting without causing problems for anyone. Although the crit fail for that might have been them researching flubber stuff...

Hindsight is 20/20.

On Discord the QMs have Explicitly stated that This sort of application is what LOVEMUFFIN thinks of as Mad Science. It's exactly like what happens in Phineas and Ferb.

Basically it's not mad science if you don't use the device to wreak petty revenge.

Oh yes. I agree, I voted to arrest them. I just want us to go into this with open eyes and the clear sight that Lovemuffin didn't do it maliciously, they're just bad. Bad people, bad scientists, bad Hero Units.

We are arresting them for doing exactly what we told them to, and if they didn't want that? Well, they should have been more cooperative when given the chance. Because newsflash, we're a Mad Scientist, and they are annoying us. We are not above sending people to jail out of spite.

In that case, arresting them is acceptable.
Let's hope they don't get away.
Still, I would like to keep them, after rehabilitation or ego management training.

Maybe they didn´t do it outta malice (*X for doubt* on that one), but with so much sheer ignorance that it makes little if any difference to me

Another bit from discord.

As we all know, Learning Stats don't represent how smart someone is, but how effectively they can apply knowledge.

With that in mind:
"The learning score of LOVEMUFFIN as a heroball is in fact much lower than any individual member of LOVEMUFFIN"

So what? They feed off each other petty, idiotic, and malicious energy until they all end up much less effective?

Meaning that a Toon teen that never finished college is *almost as good* at applying knowledge as a whole cabal of "scientists"

Doesn´t make it better one bit

Apparently? My personal theory is that they're just such colossal ego-maniacs that literally no amount of therapy, common sense, or training will stop them from being unrelenting narcissists.

Since all of our troubles with them seem to stem directly from them being unrelenting narcissists? I voted to axe them even though I really love the extra action.

best option would be to split the hero ball, probably and give them each therapy but.... that would lose thier extra action most likely and we don't have that much slot.

sad :(

We can't do that. The reason write ins are disabled here are because the QMs can't see any way out of this that they can reasonably write with everyone in character except for these two options.

Either we arrest L.O.V.E.M.U.F.F.I.N. (with all that entails) or we completely forgive them. There's no middle ground.

As far as my thoughts on the matter, I suspect it's because anything less than giving Lovemuffin an Attaboy for a job well done will infuriate them. Even WITH the +15 Loyalty we just got? it still apparently brings them to -50 Loyalty which is the point where they start attempting to murder us. if we keep them, We're going to need to put them on Mad Science next turn too.

Keep in mind, L.O.V.E.M.U.F.F.I.N.'s Loyalty Maluses don't fade with time. So every time they feel sidelined (that is, when not doing mad science the same way they did this turn) they get a permanent loyalty malus that we need to buy off with more mad science.

We're already Deep in the red with them. This turn bought us leeway to "make things right" with them and a path forward to make things right with them. That path is putting them on mindlessly destructive nonsense that they have a coin flip's chance of Crit failing.

L.O.V.E.M.U.F.F.I.N. does not like doing research. They don't like doing stewardship. They're Incredibly incompetent at everything else (as shown in this post).

They basically only want to do Martial actions (specifically supervillainy-style actions), with a martial stat of 3.

And if we don't put them on those? They will try to murder us even if we keep them.
