Brockton's Celestial Forge (Worm/Jumpchain)

Moving with perfect efficiency and the benefit of posing powers made the motion look completely natural and there was a brief moment where Faultline seemed momentarily stunned by my proximity.

I felt a surge of titanic effort through the Dragon's Pulse, more than anyone should have to bear, and looked up to see Uppercrust finish shifting his chair slightly towards Coil.
Initially I thought Faultline exerted a surge of titanic effort to not look at dat ass.

Truly, Taylor's greatest crime wasn't mindwhamying planets worth of Capes and using them as meat shields while mentally scaring them into heart attacks, but ruining another fellow human's chili.

Why do people like this heartless monster again?
Er... from what I've gathered, something about escalators? Perhaps she's a prodigious moving stairway saleswoman in the original story. I wouldn't know, I haven't read it.

So.

Did March suggest that Apeiron can silence the voices?

If so... well... Tybalt is right there... heh.
The Butcher took Kaiser's rant with the same icy calm she had displayed since her arrival. Focusing my sense of the Dragon's Pulse on her, I could see it wasn't entirely true. There were emotions there, tension, concerns, and uncertainty. They just didn't make it to the surface. Budding thoughts and emotions were put through what I could best describe as peer review. The presence of other Butchers wasn't just noise in the back of her head. It was advice, reassurance, and emotional support. She was leaning on the mental effects of her power to help stabilize her during periods of stress and uncertainty.

Those words brough spikes or fear echoing around the table. It drove home what we were dealing with, the true scope of the problem, but there was something else. Buried beneath the moderating effect of the past Butchers there was a similar spike of fear. The Butcher, or Butcher XIV at least, was afraid. She might level the threat of possession against anyone who would move against her, but she didn't want to die. Even knowing she would persist, that fate frightened her.

I'd say more 'make it a straight up bodyjacking, with no melding of personality' or 'melding of personality but inverted from past Butchers'. Butcher XIV's distinct variation of the Butcher consciousness remaining in control and in charge, forever. No matter the body.

Where was this mentioned? I believe Quarrel just happens to have the (relative) cooperation of most of the previous Butchers, due to the fact that she's part of the Teeth. So instead of driving her insane, in a sense they help her maintain her game face much like how Taylor could offload her emotional responses into her bugs.

As "helpful" as having over a dozen voices in your head constantly sounds though, Quarrel has absolutely no desire to become the next voice in the chorus when she dies. It means, after all, that if she dies, she's forever stuck as yet another screaming voice in someone's head, passed over and over again across the successive Butchers.

Do you hear that noise? If you listen really closely, you are able to notice that Tattletale's internal screaming over the summit going off the rails from what she had been plotting has gotten so loud that other people can hear it.

You mean she isn't used to her plans going off the rails by now? I'd thought that would have been clear since the fight with Lung and March.

Lisa plan have gone off the rail when Joe came to the summit with a team. Before that, she was doing okay, all things considered.

"Plans don't survive contact with Apeiron".

I know its not going to happen, but I really, really, want Apieron to just cut the Gordian knot, not let the Teeth get a foothold in the city, and just unbind/exorcise the Butcher.

The only reason Apeiron isn't killing the Butcher team right now is because he extended the summit peace to them.

The Butcher just announced they were aligned with the ABB, you know, the group that Apeiron just annihilated in a one-man-gang-war. And unknown to everyone except the Celestial Forge, Apeiron can deal with the Butcher, so he can take a hard stance against the Teeth (something that will completely blindside the Butcher, she's too used to use her possession as a threat to get what she want).

Through I don't know if Apeiron will bother to exorcise the Butcher, of if he'll just lock her below the ocean Slaughterhouse-style.

and yet another 10k chapter where nothing happens.

Yes, the Butcher was "nothing" ;)

The summit is a diplomatic exercise, of course it'll be slow, but I wouldn't say "nothing happens".

Not really the case. The threat of Butcherification only goes so far - she's still part of the group, and even if she's not a kill target, everyone else in the group can be treated without the kiddy gloves. It's even mentioned in the chapter as to how the Teeth gets repelled - everyone targets the rest of the Teeth while the Butcher just gets CC'd, forcing the Teeth to retreat as a whole.

So technically, that's the third option to helping her or eliminating her. Joe takes basically the entire gang hostage to force her to leave.

Dang the CF is like stop being a doormat and become master immune.

No, the CF is a master troll.

Apeiron: "finally, I've cleared my reach, so I won't get a perk when talking to the Butcher."
Forge-chan: "EXCUSE ME ? Here, take that small perk that the readers where waiting for since the last 20 chapters. Also it'll change your outlook on life, and make you immune to both Ziz and the Butcher. Oh, and brace yourself for a new constellation."

I wonder... What if The Butcher was there for choosing Apeiron as its next host?

What would March gain from a Butcher-Apeiron ?

I await the response of the PRT, learning the Teeth are in town, as 'Reinforcements' to ABB.

"You see director, THAT is why you don't ignore villains summits. "
"Shut up Uppercrust, my ulcer got an ulcer"

Other fanfiction writers: 1k words to get from canon start to Leviathan.

BCF: 800 words about the impending doom of a table.

Related: the Pacing Complainers vs the Pacing Defenders battle in the immediate aftermath of chapters is the second best part of BCF updates.

It feels like I'm reading one of Tolkein's works again, not in the level of writing, but rather the amount of effort and detail put into every single scene.

High praise, not unwarranted though, in my case BCF manages to keep my attention, while Tolkien's description were too visual for my Aphantic mind to bother. At least LordRoustabout uses logical/technical explanations which maintain a good information flow for people like me. I think your comparison is more than apt. Taken as a completed work, it would be much easier read.

Man, fuck the Teeth.
Don't do this! It hurts a lot!

Punch them, kick them, any option other than that!

Awww, don't be like that, everyone should get some nookie. Plus the Butcher is bound to have some interesting power in bed. ❤️

Hem, sorry. My shipping sense was tingling.

Doctor Mother: "Are you by chance interested in a permanent research position with almost unlimited resources and exciting opportunities? If you wish to stay as a mad scientist, even morals are optional."

...wait, Doctor Mother know the meaning of "morals" ?

This new power is perfect for encouraging the growth necessary for Spiral Energy.

I actually can't think of a better synergy.

The more assertive and confident he becomes the more potent his Spiral Power becomes.
Apeiron has taken a huge step towards doing the literally impossible.

I'm not sure if the Personal Reality constellation is confirmed or not, I feel like that's something that LR would've included in this latest chapter. Did I miss a WOG at some point?

No you don't understand. Clones are all about not needing to self-improve in the same way that Reapers are. They'll probably end up offing themselves just to supply more power.
Hey, Joe is directly or indirectly responsible for 17 deaths. How many clones has he made during this fic?

And a damned great one.
I'm not always good at expressing my thoughts, but now I can just second everything in your post. You have my gratitude.

This never be old, take your hands off chairs shifting, whiners.
Protons are boring until you realise they exist because three quarks are stuck in an eternal game of musical chairs.

Actually, this chapter was great. We get an insight into the character of the villains of Brockton bay. I laughed out loud at least four times. The petty bickering, the verbal fencing, the subtle snubs, all gold. Survey putting down Coil was one of my favourite moments, followed by the creaky table scene. Hemo-what'shername-rrghia and Tetra made me snicker every time it came up.
Forge-chan has perfect timing, every time, and is still as much a troll as any Rimworld storyteller.

There was a line in this chapter about how Joe thought that the Doormat power was more important 'than even the appearance of a new constellation' (paraphrased). It could be that it is actually not the Personal Reality constellation and is instead a new constellation that Lord has never mentioned before, but I doubt it.

"Oh hey, apparently my powers have another level that they were building up to all this time."
Cue Tattletale becoming telepathic just so that she can scream louder and farther.
Frankly, that should have been even more ridiculous than drawing power from radiant energy, but somehow the structure of the crystal was able to perform a type of fermion manipulation that converted neutrino flow into titanic amounts of power. The actual mechanics behind the process was staggering on a level that made fold carbon look simple, but the effects were undeniable. It even sustained itself at night, given a neutrino's ability to pass through the planet itself. By forcing neutrino collisions, the crystals could take the power of 'the Sun' and turn it into something that could sustain a civilization.
... no, this is more than that.
This is the power of the entire observable universe.
Neutrinos are streaming out from the Earths core due to the high energy reactions within. Part of the reason that an underwater neutrino telescope was rejected was due to the uranium and other radioactive isotopes in sea water obscuring other neutrinos due to themselves releasing neutrinos - like a radio being jammed.
Neutrinos come from the stars, supernovae, nebula, the edges of blackholes, nuclear fission and fusion... if there is an atomic reaction of some kind, there will probably be neutrinos.
Going underground would only make these things more powerful due to the radiant neutrinos from the Earths core - the only way I can possibly think of to make them really lose power is to go out into intergalactic space, where there is mostly nothing except possibly dark matter and energy.

Since her power is playing on timing, I think she's counting on the Butcher power to hinder Apeiron.

While many people fear augmenting the Butcher with new powers, there is the fact that it is a composite being with anarchy in place of the brain.

That's a risky play, as it just run the risk of creating an unbeatable monster, but... it's the kind of things March could be suicidally overconfident enough to try.

Seems pretty explicit to me:

No, the problem wasn't the minor defensive power that I had been granted. It wasn't even the entirely new constellation that bloomed to life within the Celestial Forge as the mote detached from the depleted Clothing constellation.

He added it to the spread sheet which he does the power draw for. So it is at this point 100%, confirmed just not in story.

Regarding the discussion about pacing, for me the problem isn't the pacing but simply the amount of content. Reducing the amount of description in the chapter wouldn't make it more enjoyable to me at all, I would rather just have more content. That last chapter seemed to pass in the blink of an eye. Which means I'm getting spoiled, because it was 11k words. There's really nothing Lord can do about that besides dedicating his entire life to writing the story. I'm sure the chapter's much better when you take it out of the context of 'the chapter we've been waiting two weeks for' and treat it as another chapter in BCF.

heh, and there goes march's plans, I guess he stayed himself and is no longer under whatever power made everyone forget about that little group of fuckups?

My 2 cents on the pace of the story. It's good, if 60% was not about the latest powers, but the people themselves. Consider reducing the random rolls for powers? It would allow more of the story at this point, as well as actual exploration of powers.

Ah, The World Ends With You.

Every time I see something referencing it, I think of the Worm Fic Synesthesia (T . T) *Sad music intensifies*
I love any type of cultural revolution/paradigm shift stories. Especially ones where the general public gain powers.

Revival (The World Ends With You) Free- Revival:: Depending on what personality flaw you took, if you elect to press through and defeat it instead of becoming a Reaper you will earn an exclusive perk based upon your personality flaw.
Doormat | Mental Fortress - Your sense of individuality and self is so strong that invasive influences find your mind impenetrable. Whether it's Mind Control, Emotion Manipulation, Thought Reading, or any other kind of mind-messing mojo - You are the sole master of your own psyche. You can also see through outside manipulation and illusion more easily. Your art becomes famous for its originality and unique style, whatever you decide to apply this to.

That is an incredible side perk. I bet you could make a Super Cape Therapist just with the ability to give out that Revival power to others. Maybe through a Striker-Trump trigger for Dr. Campbell?

Business would be booming. He'd be even better than Memetic Dr. Yamada.
