Brockton's Celestial Forge (Worm/Jumpchain)

First, the S9 thing should happen any moment now
S9 have slowed down to give Leet a chance to finish his project (that's been building up for so long now that I don't see how it can have a satisfying payoff. Either Leet somehow outpaces Apeiron (in which case what the hell was the point of tens of chapters of Apeiron teching up?) or the much more plausible outcome; Leets big project isn't very effective because Apeiron became a god half a week beforehand)

"To my Workshop." He said, with a particular emphasis on the word.
Cool. First person invited to the workshop ever I think. Aisha snuck in of course but that obviously doesn't count.
SMH my head. Apeiron just turned Gully into a magical girl of the earth. At least her transformation is about the Amazonian goddess form.
She's now Sailor Gaia! Sadly I don't think Lord's version of the Forge has Sailor Moon stuff. It does have Symphonia Gear I know and I think it has Nanoha. I think it even has some medicine that just gives out linker cores even. So easy magic. Not sure if the dimensional travel would be helpful though. Any other magical girl series in the Forge?
Yeah, I probably should have realized The Slug has Eden's version of Safeguard a while ago. To be fair, when was the last time a Wormfic actually had the Slug appear on screen? Like, I think the percentage of Wormfic that even mention him are in the single digits.
I think the last time I saw the Slug show up in a fanfiction was some entity self insert.
By namedropping Apeiron. That's enough explanation.
He does have divine powers from PJO. In that gods get their attention drawn when people say their names. So because demigods basically have weaker versions of their parents powers he might have a weaker version of that.

Well now, congrats to Gully!

Oh, the debrief is gonna be insane! Even if she limits exactly how much she says, if she mentions the Passenger Space and how it connects to the place seen in Case 69, and how modifying something there can change someone's power, it will cause a massive wave!

Also, she has 2 forms now? Nice! She can both grab something off the top shelf as well as never hit her head on the roof again!

Thanks for the chapter, looking forward to the case 53 community seeing her new look and freaking out!

The sad thing is, depending if she was a buyer or a captive of Cauldron when she got her vial, it could have still been her choice that landed her as a Case 53. It's kinda why Triumph is so messed up at the moment - as far as he knows he's fated for a horrible afterlife and that's because he bought that vial.

Triumph's dad got the vial for him cause he'd started struggling in baseball so wanted to get him minor super strength.

The best part about the whole thing is that Gully now has CF on speed-dial with really really hard to block method - a fucking shovel of all things - so PRT cant even lock her up or keep her somewhere. I am not sure she even would need to threaten them with Lethe or they would just let her go when she asks without any further questions.

They also probably can't take it because it probably has the miss militia power application thing plus she's on leave so not really sure how much control they'd have especially with the whole Apeiron stuff is handled nationally thing.

The blade of that shovel is made out of high quality refined Earth Dust.

Protectorate Tinkers are currently going mad over tiny amounts of low quality Dust.

That shovel is probably worth more than the Rig. If Gully can use it in conjunction with her powers to create Dust (in the same way that it spreads/propagates), then she could be about become the richest Ward in the USA. That on top of her new appearance.

Forget going mad this chapter revealed one broke into another's lab to try stealing it and then they fought over it. I also hate that I can't call it a stretch because while it shouldn't work due to the dust veins coming from vast amounts of Apeiron's personal use dust being scattered on the ground and Heretical Adaptation setting it up but lord really loves stretching things so others can play with the forge's stuff.

Probably captive given she most likely already had a power (I'm not discounting her getting a power just as she drunk the vial), but with how Parahumans are about power I won't discount her trying to gain more power by drinking a vial.

she didn't need to have been a cape the self proclaimed Dr Mother in canon notes that because she herself had a single corona meaning she could trigger (if she actually had emotions) her odds of mutating were far higher from drinking a vial.

I'm not sure I agree with that. This information was discovered at a Truce meeting regarding the S9 who were already in the city and had already revealed themselves. It's less that she didn't push on it and was more focused on the pending localized apolypse that the S9 tended to leave in their wake. Also, we don't see her perspective or thoughts. For all we know after that meeting, Militia was constantly thinking or trying to do something about it.

Regarding this, I think people are jumping ahead. Considering the pace of the story, we're likely not going to see a reaction from the PRT to this for several chapters.

Hell, it wouldn't surprise me if Gully's toned down explanation of powers that Apeiron gave her makes its way to Eidolon's ears, and he gets the idea of "Maybe he can fix MY powers." How many times have we seen a story where Eidolon shows up in the Bay? And it wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing considering how delicate the situation is there. The PRT would basically be saying, "Look, all you criminals trying to make things difficult for recovery - calm the fuck down, or one of our biggest sticks is going to start getting twitchy. You wouldn't like him when he's twitchy."

Sure and then she and the prt did a whole lot of nothing about Dinah after even with the reveal of how big a deal Dinah's precog power was. Plus that was a commentary on her character and behaviour as a whole considering all her other bad showings as well.

We might see their reaction soon because Gully immediately called her ward friend so they are about to learn of it the bigger factor really tho is that it won't matter because of the nine takedown coming up.

Eidolon also can't really show up because the situation with Apeiron aside the Triumvirate don't leave their cities because the prt uses the fact they'll only leave if things get very out of hand to reign in the villains such as the ones in the bay taking the ABB down specifically because if they didn't and the bombing continued for another week or two one of them would come to stomp the ABB and them for not stopping it.

Does anyone know what parts of this whole thing Gully can and can't share? I blame reading between breaks at work, still working, but i'm a little confused on exactly what can't be talked about.

Basically whatever she decides is wise because nothing has been banned but her silence on the sensitive stuff has been stated to be preferred and of course the passenger stuff was outright called dangerous to know. Lethe is also allowed to be a threat to keep them going too far and well we know they avoided getting a transcript from Dauntless to avoid provoking Apeiron which the Lily/Weld thing should reinforce.

Now Gully gets the best advice about an entirely new wardrobe or two, probably filtered through Aisha's translation. She's also bound to run into Flechette and Weld while there; the latter will be very happy to see her new form(s), leaving the former time to try talking with Garment one-on-one.

Yeah, 8'6" is huge. As in, taller than most ceilings, where before she'd mostly have been brushing up against them. 4'11" is small, but not nearly as dramatically so; there are plenty of outfits in that size, even if they're mostly designed for young teens.

If she gets there since the prt will very much want her to come in asap. I'd also point out 6'0 is basically the point where more height stops having advantages and just adds more problems such as legroom and head banging unless you want to do something like basketball.

You must not have read Ward, or really paid close attention in Worm. The fanon cool Miss Militia went the way of most characters in ward. Functionally useless, but also just the most basic bitch yes man. Also, did you ever really read the scene where Calvert tells them he has Dinah? This motherfucker, and he was known as a motherfucker at that point, point blank tells them all, including Miss Militia, that yes he's kidnapped the girl but it was for her own good because she had power problems and that she's happy with him and doesn't want to leave. No, you may not see her or talk to her to confirm this. Parents and family, and remember she had important extended family, weren't even mentioned. And she wasn't the only one to just go along with it, but she was right there and she did not make even a token protest. That the kind of heel turn that, in most works, would mark the character as a huuuuge piece of shit.

And the fandom mostly didn't read that and is all 'Miss Militia is one of the good ones, she just works within the system. Come on and meet cute with Danny, be Taylor's new mom!'

But just like so many other 'one of the good ones', she's an enabler to the systemic abuses, corruption, covers other bad apples, and occasionally is an active participant to sheer fucking apathetic evil. Because if she WAS one of the good ones, she wouldn't be a protectorant cape high up in the hierarchy.

Don't get me wrong, I like fanon Miss Militia. I think that's how she should be. But CANON Miss Militia is a callow, punch clock cop who does not give shit about anything she's not forced to.

Look at how she backed up Alexandria a week after Alexandria was revealed to be a huge fucking part of the corruption, practically a serial extra judicial murderer but who took time out of her busy schedule to come traumatize a teenage girl, who, yes, was a warlord, but the way she did it, and the fact that she was allowed to show up and order people around.... Shit man. But even ignoring that, Miss Militia backed her to the fucking hilt.

Consider this scene.

"Why?" Miss Militia asked. "What changed your mind from the moment you decided to surrender? Your friends weren't at risk, you already knew something about Tagg and Alexandria."
"You," I told her. "You were part of it."
"I didn't do anything."
"Exactly."
"You can't blame me for standing out of the way. You had a plan, Alexandria told me she had a plan, and nobody shared anything substantial with me. I couldn't take a step without risking that I'd get in someone's way."

A good person with basic fucking decency would not have done nothing.

And in Ward, she's just as bad if not worse. Shes part of a delegation of capes sent as diplomats to a world that rather notably hates capes, bringing several minors. Miss Militia invited Breakthrough to help her as diplomats and then walked off looking sad when they got hauled away to be tortured--yes, including the eleven year old--and told them to handle it themselves.

Tldr Miss Militia a shit.

Good thing superhero work is mostly outdoors.
I actually checked the Warhammer height comparison chart and it turns out that at about eight feet tall your chest is about level with the top of most people's heads.

With Miss Millita being mentioned, I wonder if this will be an outright confirmation and irrefutable proof that she was right, will she or will she not do a Fortnight dance to celebrate, preferably on top of Piggot's desk?

And yes, Collin may have a stick up his ass and done nothing wrong ever, something I have grow to like about him as a character, but I don't know where the "cool mom Militia" thing came from.

(EDIT: Why did i call him Calvin!???? 😅)

If it because she had a sad backstory? It is because she is 'MERRICAn?

Joe hitting the passenger with the horny bonk and it didnt work lmao

So Gully's passenger is an r34 netizen, got it. It probably pays for comissions, the perv.

Gully: Look, the one who asked me not to say anything was Apeiron-

*KRAKATHOOM*

Gully: -What the hell was that!?

Man, I will never EVER grow tired of seeing people tear apart fanon characterizations, showing that no, actually, this person is an asshole.

Mouse Protector is like second worst offender in that category. No, she wasnt cheesy happy-go-lucky hero, she was annoying unbearable bitch through and through.

S9 have slowed down to give Leet a chance to finish his project (that's been building up for so long now that I don't see how it can have a satisfying payoff. Honestly, what buildup? We know Leet tinkers with his device and thats it. Bakuda scrambles to find something, anything, March cant coordinate things for shit from beyond the grave, Uber is well on his way to meet the Truth (personally I find it bullshit and think the Truth has no business interfering with that type of resurrection alchemy or not but I gathered that this guy is just a dick in general) and Leet himself perfectly understands that their little group is done for and his project wont change shit. The one thing his project WOULD do however is to prove to himself that he is a goddamn Tinker with capital T and nobody would be able to claim otherwise. Basically, he resigned to go out in a blaze of glory "WITNESS ME!" style.

Tldr Miss Militia a shit.

Don't forget that in Worm when the undersiders atked the Gallery her chosen way to beat them was to turn her power into a machete, hold it to his throat, point out how unfortunate it would be if her hand was to slip and then try to use him as a hostage to make the others stand down. Or how later during the lull when Echidna was safely contained and capes were massing under truce when Lisa was admittedly being lippy and hinting at airing some of the prt's dirty laundry Miss Militia stormed up to her, threw her to the ground, turned her power into a gun, rammed it into Lisa's mouth, told her if she spoke again she'd get her head blown off and told her to use her power to confirm it.

Plus that the Shin people announced they were hauling them away to be tortured and she and the Wardens as a whole proved to be useless as they did nothing about the situation despite them only being there because she'd invited them.

And yes, Collin may have a stick up his ass and done nothing wrong ever, something I have grow to like about him as a character, but I don't know where the "cool mom Militia" thing came from.

It's because she's a girl and a valid si dating target so she gets heavily whitewashed by the fandom like Purity or Squealer. More seriously the cool mum thing comes from the end of worm where for some reason that's honestly beyond me at some point during gm before going QAylor Taylor basically wrote a letter talking her up as a team mum, great leader who protected those on her team and wished she'd both been in charge earlier and been in charge of her.

Mouse Protector is like second worst offender in that category. No, she wasnt cheesy happy-go-lucky hero, she was annoying unbearable bitch through and through.

Eh to be fair we only see canon mouse protector at the first ward team's first meeting. Yes it was a horrible showing and she was an immature irreverent dick but we don't know anything about her circumstances at that point, if she was usually like that or how she changed in the 17 odd years between that and canon

Leet's thing is irl time and the sleeper data. In terms of what it will do well given my worries about how lord is continously refusing to bring forward locating their base despite things like the stargate or fallout perks I'm worried they'll at least get to Noelle because honestly their fake cluster plan is so extremely stupid and shouldn't work for so many reasons much less how many exist that mean they shouldn't get to try I will seriously consider outright dropping the fic if it works.

The extra time is important because aside from Leet finishing the Grid (which is still stupidly fast for a megaproject as they should take months) Uber will try to restore March which per wog he can get away with and well lord outright admitted she survived the ungodly hour because he wanted to use her for something later and of course they had preparations to make for it like actually getting Coil's location out of Chariot.

I hope the reveal of the new Gully happens in public and is recorded. Weld pulled a real heroic self-sacrifice move when he offered to give up his own cure so that the other Case 53s could be cured. Metal Man deserves to be immortalized in a HD snapshot being engulfed in Gully's thankful embrace.

Plus, Tectron might need to little incentive to act quickly. 😉

Ah, I see why people like her now!

(which is still stupidly fast for a megaproject as they should take months)

IIRC he is working fast because he is "burning up" all the tech he van make to complete it, so his Shard is helping him complete it.

I hope the reveal of the new Gully happens in public and is recorded.

Ape works so fast that Gully entered the alleyway and less than a minute later (from the outside perspective) she came out.... filled out.

Oh lawd she a big 'un. With them huge badonkadonks lol jk
But I do wanna see the look on everyone's faces. Well that and the Case 53's will probs wanna murder the PRT knowing that Piggy's response was the only reason they aren't already being treated.
Great chapter! Thanks

Negotiations were in the Workshop and that might have been a duplicate, but treatment was most likely in one of Garment's rooms(to make a connection to Passenger space) and performed by Prime('couse duplicates probably won't care enough to try to stop Gully's Shard. Quite the opposite, they will probably be right with Aisha in making jokes at Prime.)

Also, funny thing, Piggot and co. does not have any authority to question Gully about her treatment. She is on vacation, not under PRT ENE authority and depending on how PRT Ward vacation policies go, might be not under any PRT authority at all. So Gully if local PRT tries to order her for questioning can just say: "Fuck you, I'm on vacation, come back in five to ten business days". She won't, she will probably cooperate, but still she CAN red tape them, and this is hilarious.

Man, I will never EVER grow tired of seeing people tear apart fanon characterizations, showing that no, actually, this person is an asshole.

To be fair (letterkenny no), most fanfic writers and readers are significantly more upbeat and have nicer, less crapsack multiverses than wildbow. Just look at Taylor Varga, where 99.9% of all Worm characters are actually good people at heart and just need some help from Raptor Jesus to show it, which is just about a perfect inversion of the canon ratio.

Virtually everyone, even most of the 'good' people, are fucking jerkass motherfuckers in most of Wildbows works. I'm not gonna try armchair psychology on the dude but he has a theme.

Mouse Protector is like second worst offender in that category. No, she wasnt cheesy happy-go-lucky hero, she was annoying unbearable bitch through and through.

Yeah. She's like one of those mean comics, who explicitly use their comedy to insult and humiliate. Andy Dick, Chevy Chase, Eric Griffin, Bugs Bunny, etc. Its funny to watch comics tear into people, but some of them just keep digging long after the humor is gone. Like, Bugs Bunny is pretty funny to watch, but would be a fucking nightmare if he was doing his schtick to You. At least Bugs mostly only goes after people who deserve it, or attacked him first. Imagine a Bugs who is literally (according to wildbow) addicted to the rush that comes from starting shit and humiliating people. Ravager was also a great galloping thundercunt, and foolish to boot, but I can definitely imagine her going 'you fucked around long enough, its finding out time' as she sends a message to the S9.

This just makes me so happy! It was so great to see Gully get the chance to not just be treated, but get some additional positives out of it. I'm not gonna say she deserved it, cause that would imply she had to earn this, but she definitely got it all! Just bubbling with happiness.

I also love the implication of the passengers caring for the people they're connected with. I don't know if that's meant to be, or something from how Apeiron interacts with them, but makes me so happy

Pale, of course, being the major exception, but Pale is an outlier in the Wildbow stories in a lot of ways.

Ward would indicate that many Passengers do care for their Hosts to some degree or other. Fragile One is the standout, of course, but March's shard actively helps her with small mental nudges to pay attention to specific things the shard considers important, and Grasping Self and Cradle are both absolute assholes but demonstrate a weird sort of rapport and loyalty to each other, with Grasping Self rigging the Mall Cluster cluster mechanics in Cradle's favor and Cradle siding with his shard's avatar against his fellow humans during the shardspace arc.

They probably work on cop rules, "on vacation, but always on duty", though that's most likely not true for Wards since rules would be in place for them to have actual vacations. I can see them still needing to attend during school vacations though.

Truly, Aishs is the worse influence. Poor 21 years old wasn't ready for the 13 years old :V

...Though, how old are they mentally now? I remember both of them being inside the simulation for a couple more years after the first time.

Pale, of course, being the major exception, but Pale is an outlier in the Wildbow stories in a lot of ways.

Wait, people are actually good in Pale? I started reading (well, listening the audiobook) Pact recently, and that world seems to encourage being an ass in different levels, even when you are nominally "good".

Wait, people are actually good in Pale? I started reading (well, listening the audiobook) Pact recently, and that world seems to encourage being an ass in different levels, even when you are nominally "good".

The thesis statement of Pale is "The Pactverse sucks because of rotten social conventions and entrenched abusive power structures, now let's fix that." The protagonists notably do succeed in changing the way magical society works in a significant geographical area (although with a lot of pain and suffering along the way), and like a third of the antagonists in the story end up being persuaded to go through redemption arcs or at the very least to change to supporting the new way of doing things the protagonists espouse. Turns out the crab bucket is bad for the crabs.

Of course, one of the running themes of Pale is also that some people will fight against changes that actually help them because of spite, fear of failure, and/or a genuine belief that the world cannot be better and attempts to change it always fail, which is the source of a lot of the pain and suffering mentioned above.

When and how did Apeiron find out about case 69? The last thing I remember is that this case was classified. If he had read the transcript from Glory Girl, then he should have known that March was still "alive." I don't think he would have taken it calmly.
And by the way, what exactly happened to March? She clearly hadn't become a Titan. Although, it seems to me, the "passenger" of Apeiron may panic at the description of March's condition, as from the possible state of proto-titan. And in the end, he may not even be wrong.
