Brockton's Celestial Forge (Worm/Jumpchain)

It's finally my turn! (deinspanjer)
Panromantic Detector v1

Hell yes. More omakes for the typo god. :)

Omake: It's finally my turn!

Greg Veder had been waiting for this day for two and a half years. Technically, he had been waiting for yesterday, but between his 18th birthday party and the release of the new expansion for his favorite game, it made sense to wait just one more day. It was almost enough to break him. Every time he tried to discuss the Love Machine on PHO, WingedOne began taunting him which had the inevitable result. The last time, he got so mad that he actually blacked out as he was raging at them in his reply. That had been a very long wait. The moderators accused him of threatening to find where WingedOne lived, set that as his destination, making an agreement with someone to work with him, then plotting out a trajectory for some sort of harmful effect to WingedOne. It isn't fair. He didn't even remember any of that plan!

Now though, it was finally time. It was his turn. Today, he could finally find out the name of his soul mate. The one who would truly understand him and be his equal in every way.

He entered the booth and smashed the button.

The machine sang:

"Your soulmate is... unavailable at this time. They have been banned from this machine for 30 months from yesterday due to infractions issued for attempted sabotage to this installation."

Greg Veder screamed.

I think Joe will have to take care of creating clips or video clips from the armor cameras when he returns to duty. For example, driving along the docks in search of drug dealers to this kind of music :

"Is that your explanation for why You and Chen's numbers are so similar?"

I turned around to the smiling teen, shaking my head. "The man is old enough to be my dad. 'Nough of that joke.
Besides, similar numbers, presumably, mean similar personalities, and, as you may guess, similar personalities don't always mean good compatibility..."
Joe-2 Interrupt: "Just imagine a Queen Bee-tch from your school. I'm sure there at least one. And now imagine there two of them who forced to have a relationship."
Aisha: "Huh. Yeah, they'd kill each other within a week."
Joe's thoughts: 'Distraction successful'.

So, I haven't read pages 555 and on yet, but one thought keeps popping into my head as I read this: how is Joe going to maintain his "secret identity?" Before this, he was already having to use a potion to scale down his body for 'civilian' interaction.
We don't know yet. I think either make a remote controlled fake body, or holographic/illusion disguise. I don't see any other options, at least.

Bonesaw used artificial neurons that Cherish couldn't manipulate.
Thanks for info. I totally forgot that.

Btw, a question for the thread guru - is there in any of the versions of the celestial forge the opportunity to get hands covered with living metal. Hands like Ferrus Manus? Well and so on in his style. Monstrous bonuses to blacksmithing and techie, etc. Yes, it will be difficult for Apeiron not to break the conspiracy in civilian life with such an addition. But. It. Will be. Damn. Epic.

Wouldn't this mean that Joe and his new body would basically be unable to be manipulated by Cherish?

Can he be affected? I mean master powers in worm work by controlling the brain but if Joe's brain is as hard as his best equipment he might have some protection againts that and if we add the nanites, being a demigod (which might give him some kind of mental protection) and Joe's technology to see his emotions, it might not work

Edit: And that is not counting Katsujinken, aura and his experiences as a soldier due to that might increase his resolve.

Depends on how visible the modification will be.
As The Lord Speaketh:
Joe's style perks would only trigger if he needs to completely rebuild his body. He can still do repairs without bringing them into play. The real question is whether he can work around that level of damage without needing a complete teardown, so to speak.
Seriously though, with it at its worst Joe can cover up his perfect flesh with loose jackets.

Also worth noting for Master resistance, Joe's soul operates on different rules than every other person on the planet. Like persisting through brain damage and keeping his memory and personality intact. Several of the settings he's importing rules from (like Fate) can overpower mental influences through strength of will or a strong soul. He might be able to do the same.

Spiral Energy in particular could do so, considering it's all about overcoming any obstacles through willpower. The constant check-ins from his AIs through his brain implant could also alert him to unusual brain activity. The perk he got through the fight with Lung, the pacifist thingy, might potentially give him some resistance to any kind of aggression-inducing effects. His Soldier background would probably, if not give him resistance against fear effects, at least train him to power through the fear. Considering Demigods can break through outright mind control, and he qualifies as a particularly powerful one (I'd wager he's on par with a child of the Big Three, as far as how powerful his divine blood is), he could probably do the same.

The thing is, Worm has lots of different flavors of mental influence. There's emotional influence, memory alteration, puppetry, possession, and Thinker powers that enhance one's ability to work others around to their point of view. Depending on the angle of attack, his resistance would vary wildly.

Okay folks, I need someone to write an omake about how Aperion's sensor suites are capable of detecting soul mates. I need this far more than anyone could possibly need a simple typo corrected.

I was actually thinking of something (not quite) similar the other day. LordRoustabout has stated that he has not yet decided on the Minor Blessings perks for Hera or Demeter. I was thinking that as the goddess of marriage, a perfect perk for Hera would be Matchmaking. Unfortunately, that wouldn't really fit with the theme of the Forge itself dangit. But if we were to make it something he could build--a machine that could tell people who their soulmate is yes, but also who would make the best spouse--the two might be quite different and some might actually prefer a good spouse to a soul mate.

We don't know yet. I think either make a remote controlled fake body, or holographic/illusion disguise. I don't see any other options, at least.
A holoform from 'Transformers' will be perfect for Joe if he ever makes himself into a giant robot

A holoform allows a Transformer to interact with the human race without causing panic. ... It consists of the nanoform, with the human appearance manifested over the top. Once a mech or femme acquires their vehicle mode, they will need to scan a human to use as their holoform

Sooo, does anyone have any info on what a cybertronium infused human is like?
I'm honestly curious how strong Joe will be by the end of this in general. He's infused with life fibers, ragnite,(probably eezo), and cybertronium. All of this enhanced by his crafting and quality perks on top of stuff like master's body and heretical adaptation. This all adds to his previous boost of being 6 times stronger than peak human and a few times faster as well, not to mention aura.

Hypothetical scenario, if Joe was inserted into the Invincible show right after the operations and is only allowed to fight with just his body and innate abilities, how would he do? Say he was dropped above the White House in episode 1 or somehow taking the superhero tryouts in episode 3.

There's a lot of innate powers such as aura, demigod fire, nanites, alchemy, (possibly biotics) on top of probably stupid physicals and regeneration.

That thought too funny to react at it with anything else, yet I still was tempted to gave it "Insightful" instead.
Don't worry, I did it for you.
I mean, to be fair, while Fleet's minimalist approach works great under conditions where there's a lot of distractions going around, it does run the risk of being too short-sighted at times. It's an exaggerated example, but there is that story of an AI whose job was to produce the most amount of paperclips. It would do the most straightforward part to achieving this goal to the best of its ability, improving itself and doing what only needs to be done to create more paperclips in exclusion of other factors.

In the end, the AI optimized so much that it took control from its creators, started mobilizing more and more resources towards making paperclips to the point where it was even destroying its surroundings and the human race just to get more material.
I played a game based on that is called Universal Paperclips, which is like Cookie Clicker except it has an actual finite limit to how many paperclips are possible to create. Also, am I the only one now terrified that we will go out into the stars only to find a hoard of giant machines made of one inane, everyday product devouring the stars?
He does have a wand. I'm pretty sure there's a spell in Harry Potter that changes your appearance. Too bad there's no Naruto perk coz Henge would be perfect.
He doesn't actually have any training in how to use the magic systems from most of his magic granting perks. I think he only knows the basics of Strike Witches as well as the full Inukami System.

Hi Guys, i just have to do it, it just keeps on bugging me.

Here is my take on Ape-Iron :)
Thank you, hilarious and fantastic work.
Could I get this oldish omake threadmarked @LordRoustabout?
Sorry for missing it on the first pass. Threadmarked with my apologies.

Okay, done reading. Ready to say stuff.
First of all, corrections.

This is phrased as a question, so a question mark should go there at the end. I think, but then I could be wrong.

*bor? bore? I don't know how to spell it, but it's the word I think should go here.
Next up, thoughts and questions!

I like the fact that this one thing led to such a big difference between Fleet and Survey. I know he also mentions things like how they serve different purposes and such, but this really specifically does lead to different approaches as well.
So, first of all, where did this naming system come from, and how does it work? I'm sure there's some logic to the Perks being catalogued with a string of numbers, letters, and number-based prefixes. I'm guessing the first number is the time he got the power, like the '194' of Build Rome's designation means that Build Rome was Apeiron's 194th power?

Hahahaha! I love how, according to Fleet, 'the most credible source of consolidated analysis' is PHO. Though after reading that part, I gotta agree, this guy is thorough.
Also, that username is so appropriate to Fleet. I'd give you a like for that alone, but then I'd be unable to give you the next holiday thing. I wonder what the Fourth of July version of the like looks like?

Well, those threads filled up fast.

So does that mean if the principles behind the Mass Effect and Ragnite ever became common knowledge, or if Joe went to the Mass Effect universe or the Valkyria Chronicles universe, that The Arcane Craft wouldn't be able to modify them?

Why does Fleet refer to Matrix as ancient? Isn't she one of the newest Artificial Intelligence's?

Oh my, I didn't think that was what was happening to the Mobile Suit. Interesting.

Nice categorization system Matrix has for their nanobots. Makes sense.

Didn't bother to quote the whole thing, I'll just say that I liked the fact that we got to see the full Chen Conversation.

wut

Oh never mind, makes perfect sense now... God, it's strange when 'we need to tear out his heart to make it better' makes perfect sense in context.

Can't wait to see Joe Prime's reaction to getting his heart ripped out! ...okay, that sounded a bit morbid now that I think about it.
Thanks you, corrected.

'Mysterious forces' as defined by Arcane Craft are defined by a perspective external to the series in question. The principles of the effect can be completely understood in universe, but if it's the 'magic' or paranormal equivalent of that setting then Arcane Craft works. The reason it can affect element zero is because of Biotics. If the mass effect had stayed entirely technical and limited to machinery then it wouldn't have been 'mysterious', but Biotics are clear substitutes for psychic powers/magic, thus they see the benefit from the perk, as do the more esoteric applications of mass fields. It doesn't need to make sense to the people in the universe, only to the context of the perk.

Ancient was a typo that had been aggressively corrected with spellcheck. It was actually nascent, so taken about as far from the original intent as possible. God bless technology.
Good chapter, BIG chapter, lots of typos.
[EDIT] Oh, @sonicyoash beat me to some of those while I was typing.

Thanks for the chapter, as always.

It was an interesting PoV from Fleet. It got kinda confusing when it swapped to Aisha and Chen, then back to Fleets musing, then back to Aisha and Chen again. It was hard to follow the transitions between 'This is Fleet thinking', and 'Separate conversation between Aisha and Chen'. If it was supposed to feel like Fleet was watching Aisha and Chen converse, then it wasn't really obvious.

Changed up the way I was noting corrections, just highlighting the letters changed, rather than the whole word. Lemme know if you don't like this method, it's only a little bit faster than the other way.
I think the whole Parahuman Online message section should be indented, like below, to make it more apparent that it's a forum response.

Not sure if it's A.I.s or A.I.s', I can never remember which is correct.

dispatched, provided, survived, all should past tense

Not really sure about this sentence. Pretty sure it should be 'way' instead of 'was', but the rest of the sentence might need a lil editing.

Pretty sure spacetime is all one word. Either that or it should be space-time.
Thank you, corrected.

Writing a non-human perspective is something of a challenge. I had intended to maintain Fleets observations on Aisha and Chen's conversation, but I was ending up with a lot of repetition and it was impacting the tone of the scene, so I cut back to just their exchange. Fleet watched patiently aas often as he engages, so it worked in that manner.
Thank you, corrected.

It was nice to get a closer look at the AI characters. The usual point of view doesn't show as much of their character.

This typo looks like a bit of a Freudian slip:

It seems like Survey almost could detest the inscrutable nature of the inscrutable powers, though the main mood seems to be determination and desperation to understand.

A few more mistakes that I didn't see mentioned already
Is this backwards? "did not find it necessary"

Maybe "her issues with"?

Remarkably

Just one of "close" or "sign"

Probably "of immense use"

Something jumbled at "by ability the material of". Maybe "by the ability of the material of"

Enhanced

Okay, @LordRoustabout first great chapter awesome like always and waiting exitingly for the next.
Second, questions did joe just made his own endbringer core equivalent?, and with all of that enhancements and ragnite did he became into somethign similar to a valkyria?
I wouldn't really use that analogy. Endbringer cores are points of failure as much as sources of power. Joe's heart isn't any more vulnerable or critical than it was before, just a lot more durable and powerful. For your other question, yeah, something similar a Valkyrur. Joe already had divine ragnite in his system and now his heart has been infused by the strength of extremely high grade ragnite, along with other effects, and had Arcane Craft used to enhance the impact further. It's not going to be exactly the same as what you see in Valkyria Chronicles, but there will be serious effects that go beyond the boosted healing.
So, does this mean Joe now has four copies of his heart in his lab?

What even do with them?
The duplicates got around the multiplication the usual way, underbuilding and using the size increase version of workaholic. Also, it was kind of necessary for the level of Elven Enchanting they used on the heart, since the energy expenditure is scaled for the smaller version. Combined with miniaturization from Gadget Master and the heart actually overperforms for it's size while being normal scale.
Doesn't cybertronium need a constant supply of energon to remain alive?
CyberTONium (Yeah, I hate the spelling too, but I'm going off the jumpdoc here) is the multidimensional superconductor metal that is key to most Transformer technology. Living metal (also known as Protomatter) is the programable material that makes up the bulk of Transformer bodies. It's a nanomaterial composed of cybertonium and energon. Since artificial energon can be produced using cybertonium based technology Joe can create protomatter, meaning he can create transformer bodies.

Transformers need energon to stay functional, else they enter stasis lock or death. You can see this when the color drains from a transformer (death of Optimus Prime) which is a result of the living matter of their bodies shutting down. Other energy sources are typically toxic to transformers, leving them reliant on energon.

Joe isn't a full transformer, he merely has a single technogranic organ. It means there are microscopic living metal components that have been integrated at the sub-cellular level through the entire heart. It's a complicated thing to explain, but in broad strokes, he doesn't require a separate source of energon to keep his heart functional and the heart sees the advantages of being technorganic in addition to its other enhancements.

Please note that the lore for Transformers is all over the place, so I have done my best to consolidate a set of principles to work with from the properties that I'm familiar with, rather than trying to integrate or balance every separate continuity in the franchise. In other words, the above details are true in some series but contradicted in others, and I'm merely trying to keep things consistent for the purposes of this story.

I believe it's also worth noting that for those worried about Joe's changes revealing his identity - even way before any of this, Joe was already intended to use potions to make himself look for like a, well, regular Joe instead CYBERNETIC DEMIGOD OF PURE SEXUAL APPEAL.

"You just mind-melded with me-!? How are you doing that?"

"It's just a simple application of biotic neurology."

"Altering inertial or gravitational mass shouldn't allow for touch telepathy! You must be truly psychic!"

"Ah, yes, 'psionics'. The touted supernatural ability of a sapient mind to demonstrate extraphysical properties."

"What? But the nervous system doesn't have enough physical bandwidth to make the full contents of two brains available to each other in real time!"

"We have dismissed these claims!"

Describes the whole story, really.
if it continued with "... which we will do anyway." then you would have a stronger point.

If Bonesaw could counter Cherish with her mediocre biotinkering, Joe could do it a thousand times better with half the materials, before Bonesaw could even finish saying "poppycock".
Joe mostly does not walk the walk on his bio-tinkering. Medical and other exceptions apply.

Why would he listen to the 9 ? He should kill her on sight.
1. Walkie talkie/recording/(edit)etc
2. Touching the Siberian.
3. Just walk up to him and be subtle about being a serial killer. Do you remember how March literally did just that? Yes, he can sense powers, but enough people have powers that assuming she is a serial killer from an nationally infamous gang of serial killers that no one has any idea where they are is a big stretch. At least, if she does it before they reveal themselves.

So, I haven't read pages 555 and on yet, but one thought keeps popping into my head as I read this: how is Joe going to maintain his "secret identity?" Before this, he was already having to use a potion to scale down his body for 'civilian' interaction. Now his entire body is being rebuilt with far greater capability than anything on the planet, probably anything possible in the next millennium of evolution. After all this, Joe still has to interact with other people - the people at the gym, his family of birth, his psychiatrist? While the latter is a wink-wink nudge-nudge away from Joe = Apeiron, none of the others know or are supposed to know.
"Is magic an option?"
Or just no one wanting to be the one to bring it up.

Tetra's also in his brain so there's at least gonna be some work done.
"I heard of a girl being on your mind, but..."
