Funny thing is, I have just been rereading Sayaka Quest, and I just read Homu murdering a uncontracted Oriko in cold Blood not for the first time mind you, and then shattering Kirika's gem, got me wondering, how would Sabrina react to the Sayaka Quest crew and their experiences?

Fangirling and lots of MuraUgo jokes. A lot of people in PMAS also came from Sayaka Quest or at least have read it.

Also, Akane the Straightguca vaporizes all our problems away with her punches.

I mean Sayaka Quest has a dead mumi, a Murderer Homu, a Sayaka who doesn't really care about losing limbs, and a Kyuoko who... Is just kyouko I suppose, feels like Sabrina might freak out if she met them... Plus Akane the straightguca, who I feel like you lot would try to find her waifu rather than husbando ... All while coddling them and finding they don't want that.

again a lot of the playerbase is the same

Honestly, aside from the dead Mumi all of that is fixable and/or negligible.

I think it would be like:

"Oh my gosh, you were awesome!"

"Uh, okay?"

"I mean, you were going full badass revenant route! Lost limbs? Not a problem. Holes in your body? I'll heal them when I have the time. It did cause you some problems with your girlfriend..."

"Who are you, crazy girl? "

"Did you know that I have brain damage, too? Not really, but... Oh, have you ever tried microwaving the tea?"

"That's it! I'm outta here!"

"Not so fast!" Gets closer, grins. "I have a Kyo~ko! Or, should I say, Koko?"

"How do you know?.."

Enter the Kyoko.

"What did ya want to talk about? Who's that lady?" Suddenly blushes. "She looks... nice! Yeah, nice. Strangely familiar, though..."

"Nice try! But I have my own Kyoko! And we love each other, so there!"

"Wait, wha?"

"And it doesn't matter that this Kyoko is so... adorable..." Tackle-hugs Kyoko. "I've forgotten how cute you were in your teens! Nghhhh! N-not that you aren't cute now, but, uhhh..."

"Uhhh..."

"Sabrina, what was that about microwaving the tea?"

"Uhhh..."

Seriously though. Sabrina wouldn't judge. Life in Sayaka Quest was godawful not because Moiderah was trying really hard, ( aside from limb loss. But. Sayaka. Can. Take iiiiiiit! ) but because Puella Magi. And Gen.
Homura, well, Homura is TRAUMATIZED.
Remember how Sayaka was sympathetic to Homura, even though she was sometimes horrified by her admissions?
The reaction would be basically the same.

And fangirling? Remember Skadi, the Witch of Torment? Remember how metal that was? Yeah.

Sayaka hums, rubbing her chin with her hand. "Intriguing. Tell me more about this 'not losing arms during fights'."

Sayaka sighs. "Look," she says to the other bleunette, "it's very simple, so follow me on this one..."

Sayaka nods, prompting Sayaka to continue.

"When you are fighting, say, a Witch," Sayaka explains, "you need to not get your arms cut off."

Sayaka frowns indignantly. "Well, how are you supposed to do that?"

"What do you mean how? Just don't get hit!" exclaims the other one, blue eyebrows raised.

"What do I look like, diet Mami?" huffs Sayaka, crossing her arms.

"No- You..." Sayaka trails off. "Look, let's start from the beginning."

Sayaka can only shrug to that. "And that is...?"

"Well," Sayaka scratches her head, "as Sabrina tells me, the first step is to Wish Good."

"And what's that supposed to mean?"

"That your Wish is useful for your life as a meguca."

"A what now?" blue eyes blink.

"A meg- I mean a Magical Girl," corrects herself Sayaka. "Point is, a good Wish empowers you enough, while a... misguided Wish usually comes back to bite you-"

"I Wished to heal Kyousuke's hand."

"Ouch," Sayaka flinches.

"... Hey!" Sayaka glares at Sayaka, who makes appeasing motions with her hands.

"Easy!" she says. The other bleunette opens her mouth to retort -angrily- but the first one cuts in again. "I mean, you could have healed him with your bogstandard meguca healing magic; your Wish could have been more... helpful."

"Oh yeah?" Sayaka grits her teeth. "Well, what did you Wish for, pray tell?"

"Well I..." Sayaka throws a look around, before leaning towards Sayaka, signaling her to do the same.

Her anger momentarily abated by curiosity, the blue eyed Magical Girl approaches the blue eyed Magical Girl, who whispers somethign quickly to her ear.

"Fuck, that's hax," blurts out Sayaka, blinking in astonishment.

Sayaka grins bashfully, scratching her head.

"But that's bullshit!" exclaims Sayaka, "can you even do that? Like..." she fumbles for words, "it's that a valid Wish?"

"Well," says the other girl adjusting her cape a bit, "Sabrina literally Wished to control Grief, so I figured I should go for something strong, too..."

"Still saying that's bull-"

"Crap, yeah."

"Yeah..."

A momentary silence passes between the blue magical girls, each one lost in their own thoughts.

Sayaka's the one to break the silence.

"So, maybe I didn't Wish that good," she grumbles, "so what?"

"Well, then you need to group up- not that you ever shouldn't, mind-"

"What, you think I threw myself at Witches solo?" Sayaka asks, eyebrow raised.

"No, no, but... who was your... partner?" Sayaka asks back.

The bleunette shrugs. "Kyouko, mostly. And Akane-"

"Wait," blinks Sayaka, "Kyouko? Like, Sakura Kyouko?"

"Yes."

"That..." Sayaka waves a hand around, fumbling for words, "that doesn't make sense."

"Ah, she's pretty sweet once you get to know-"

"Not THAT!" yells Sayaka, red faced.

The knight themed magical girl grins at that. She leans in, grinning. "What? Got a liking for red heads?" she winks. "I know I do..."

Sayaka splutters denials, taking a step back and raising her hands as if to ward Sayaka away.

"N-not the issue!" she protests.

"What's the issue then?" Sayaka laughs, "because it sounds to me you haven't gathered the courage-"

"The issue is Kyouko eats Witches for breakfast!" yells the blushing Sayaka, fist clenched.

Sayaka stops in her tracks. She squints. "Eats...?"

"Metaphorically."

"Oh, good," she sighs in relief.

It's Sayaka's turn to laugh. "What, you didn't think..." she giggles, a hand on her mouth, "you didn't-"

"Ha-ha," Sayaka rolls her eyes, "funny. Now, you were saying...?"

"Right," the other girl fake coughs into her hand. "Kyouko is strong. Like, she's been soloing Witches for what, two years?" she asks rethorically.

"Well, yeah..." Sayaka admits, looking aside. "It's kind of weird she could do that, but once we grouped up she got..." she frowns, "hurt almost every fight... Do you..." the bleunette grimaces," do you think it's my fault?" she asks, a hint of apprehension in her tone.

"I... doubt it?" blinks Sayaka. "You made a healing Wish, you got healing powers, not... exp leeching powers."

"Exp leeching?" asks Sayaka throwing Sayaka an amused look.

The bleunette shrugs.

"An, whatever," shrugs Sayaka, "it's been a while since my Kyouko got hurt," she smirks. "How about yours?"

"My Kyou- good try," Sayaka's eye twitches. "Anyway!" she says before Sayaka can even open her mouth again. "Kyouko's good enough she should've been able to carry you through the fights."

"That good?"

"Good enough to take care of a ten year old meguca while witch fighting," nods Sayaka.

The blue eyed magical girl whistles. "I mean, I know my girl's cool, but somehow she keeps surprising me, you know?"

Sayaka waves her off. "So there's definitely something weird going on with your place. Maybe..." she mulls, "noticed anything weird about the witches?"

"A disproportionate amount of spider themed witches?" ventures the caped magical girl.

"Nah, that's pretty normal in my experience," shrugs Sayaka.

"Witches' strenght seems to scale with your own?"

"That's..." Sayaka points a gloved finger, "that's definitely not right. Like..." she opens her hands in a shrug, "how does that make sense?"

"Luck?" Sayaka shrugs.

"That's some rotten luck you got there."

"Rotten?" glares Sayaka. "What? Would you rather I found the stronger witches first? Well, the strongest," she corrects herself. "Not like I'd survived that."

"Not what I mean," Sayaka frowns back. "I mean, a Magical Girl usually kills at least a few Witches, on average-"

"Before this whole 'Sabrina' thing, you mean?"

"Yeah, so-"

"No, no," interrupts the blue haired girl, shaking her head, "I get it. I just don't know what to tell you," she shrugs.

"Well, anyway," Sayaka pulls her phone out of her cape, "it's getting late, so shall we...?" she nods her head towards the slit in reality that's been sitting besides the chatting girls all along.

"Right," nods Sayaka, "but you were gonna tell me something about keeping my limbs attached...?"

"Eh," the bleunette shrugs, rolling her shoulders in preparation for a Hunt, "it seems that's a thing with your universe."

"A thing?" asks Sayaka curiously.

"... I'll explain later," says Sayaka with a long suffering sigh.

The blue eyed girl looks at her for a moment, but shrugs.

"Just remember we've got unlimited magic, so-"

"-We can spam magic as much as we want," finishes Sayaka with a feral grin. "You know? I think I'm gonna enjoy this for once."

The knight themed magical girl draws a deep breath, and as she releases it, a blue flash covers her momentarily, drawing a confused look from her counterpart. Once the light dies down, she's covered in golden gilded blue armour.

"That's so cool!" exclaims Sayaka, looking the other magical girl up and down with wide eyes.

"Not as useful as you think," mutters the armoured magical girl.

"Is that a second transformation sequence?" asks Sayaka, excited. "Do you get more powers-?"

"Just a plus ten to my defense rolls," answers Sayaka straightfaced.

Blue eyes blink a few times. "Pfft," their owner laughs, "got me there for a second."

"Yeah..." drawls Sayaka, before turning to the waiting Barrier, her armored feet clanging against the ground.

Sayaka follows close behind. Once they're both in front of the slit in reality, they nod to each other and, as one, they pull out identical cutlasses and cut vertically.

The Barrier opens wide, and they step inside.

"You know," frowns the armored Sayaka suddenly, "suddenly I've got a bad feeling about this."

"Bad how?" frowns Sayaka, inspecting their surroundings as she takes slow, measured steps into the Witch's domain.

"Like..." mutters the blue haired girl, still advancing. "Like we were in something weird and we just walked into something weirder."

"What kind of feeling is that?" scoffs the blue haired one.

Sayaka shrugs. "Chalk it up to..." she trails off as she comes to a stop besides an enormous pit. The other Sayaka slows to a stop as well, and together they look down into the endless void, only a few web threads hanging from one side to the other. "... Experience," finishes Sayaka after a few seconds. "You know, there's something else weird with this Barrier," she says suddenly.

"Like the fact there's no familiars?" guesses Sayaka.

"And no labyrinth?"

"This is the main chamber, right? And there's..."

"No Witch. Instead-"

"Is that a camera?" asks Sayaka, befuddled.

"And hey, look, a board game," points Sayaka.

"... You know," says Sayaka after a few seconds of silence, "I'm gonna hazard a guess that this is probably Sabrina's fault somehow."

"By what you've told me about her, that sounds... plausible?" asks the bleunette dubiously.

"Let's go with that," shrugs Sayaka. "Come on, let's get out of here, I'm hungry," she turns back and walks back towards the exit.

"Hell yes," agrees Sayaka, following close behind. "I haven't eaten one of Mami's cakes in ages."

"Yeah, they're gre-" Sayaka comes to a dead stop at the Barrier's Door.

"What is it- why is it a lot colder here all of a sudden..." Sayaka comes to stand besides Sayaka at the exit.

The exit which opens up into a vast expanse of blue sky.

As high speed winds buffet the Magical Girls, two sets of blue eyes trail down to find an spectacular sight of Mitakihara. All of Mitakihara. Way, way, way down miles under their feet.

The Sayaka wearing armor pinches her nose and draws in a breath-

The other Sayaka elbows her lightly; she meets her twin's eyes with a smirk.

"Did you know we can fly?" she asks.

Then she steps off the Barrier and plummets down, her white cape flapping behind her.

Sayaka looks down, bemused, as a light blue platform forms under Sayaka's feet and she surfs down on it across the air.

"... Fucking cool," says Sayaka, letting herself fall.

Sure. Been meaning to take some of Veb's advice re: suggestions and possibly make a few arguments. I'll get work started on that soon.

[] Simultaneously, Mami:
-[] Goals:

  • [X] Simultaneously, Mami:
    -[X] Go for it!
[x] Simultaneously, switch to telepathy: Hijiri
-[x] If you're right that she's not sure what she wants out of life now that she's living it on her own, you may actually have a suggestion? Not a very direct one, but... Try a bunch of new stuff and find something you like.
[X] Say something like Puella Magi Adfligo Systema | Page 5194
[X] Do smart things other people are voting for
    [x] Mami's suggestion
-[X] Agree, but ask her not to push her limits too far; You're worried Anri might try something, possibly from above.
-[X] Pretend you're distracted from concentrating on Hijiri's question.
    [x] Hijiri:
    -[X] Suggestion goals:
--[X] Suggest just trying new things until knows what she can call her own. Define herself for herself.
--[X] Suggest getting out from under Niko's shadow for a while. And possible methods if she's receptive.
--[X] Carefully, try to find things that could address her loneliness.
    -[X]Potential specifics:
--[X] She could take a vacation. Take time away, travel, and experience new things.
---[X] Bringing her family with her might be possible, if she wanted.
--[X] She talked about setting up in another city earlier. You could help.
--[X] Experiment with magic. Learning enchantments is both useful and a reason to travel and meet other magical girls.
--[X] Ask if she'd want to find other wishborn girls.
--[X] For all she has her problems with Niko, she could try and find common ground with the other Saints if she stays here.
    [x] Mami's suggestion
-[x] Set down and try the bigger zone
[x] Answer Hijiri. More like something you'd hope to see happen before you leave here. It's your hope that Hijiri and Niko can come to some kind of understanding with each other.
[x] You don't believe they've reached the point where things are irreparable between these two 'sisters?'
[x] All anger and frustration side. You do believe Niko cares for her.
[x] They need to talk. Really talk and things obviously can't be the same anymore.
[x] Ask Hijiri if the Pleiades saw and treated you as a peer, maybe even someday a friend rather then someone to watch over, would she feel differently?
[x] At the end of the day, the Pleides can't force you to stay here if you don't want to be here. If there's no hope of Hijiri and Niko making amends then you'll support Hijiri's wish to leave. You'll even help her with the move if she'll let you.
    [x] Hijiri:
-[x] Get her thinking of specific ways she can move forward.
--[x] She could stay with her family here, with a Clear Seed. She won't need to hunt.
--[x] Alternatively, are there places she ever wanted to go or things she ever wanted to do? You can do a lot to help her.
--[x] She'll be under some scrutiny until she re-earns trust, but you'll make sure it's not too onerous.
-[x] Keep progressing on the Niko/Hijiri relations front.
--[x] You don't believe things are irreparable between her and her sister. Did they reach any understanding during their earlier talk?
--[x] Ask Hijiri how she would feel if the Pleiades came to see (and treat!) her as a peer, maybe even someday a friend.
    [x] Mami.
-[x] Agree. Initialize White Ribbon Search Protocols!
[X] Mami: Agree; ask that she watches for aerial attacks, too.
    [x] Hijiri:
    -[X] Goals:
    --[X] Her finding herself a good purpose;
    --[X] Recognizing her bonds with people as important and valid;
--[X] And dealing with her issues with words, not violence.
    -[X] Possibly...:
--[X] Make pace with Niko; demand privacy; set rules?
    --[X] A vacation?
--[X] Get to know the rest of the Pleiades?
--[X] Talk with her family about all of this?
--[X] Go out and try new things, whatever comes to mind?

[x] Simultaneously, Mami:
-[x] Agree.
-[x] But - you think Hijiiri is trying to distract you.
-[x] Suggest a trap? Not moving will look like you're distracted, but you aren't, and you think you can defend until Mami reboots.

[x] Simultaneously, the Pleiades:
--[x] Fill them in on the plan.

[x] Simultaneously, Hijiri:
-[x] Goals:
--[x] Continue therapy
--[x] Let her think she's distracting you
-[x] Potential specifics:
--[x] Suggest just trying new things until knows what she can call her own. Define herself for herself. Standard lost-college-freshman advice.
---[x] Suggest strategies if appropriate - clubs, internet, you can introduce her to other teams? - but no concrete things to try.
--[x] Offer to help her get some space - Separation might help Niko too.

[x] Simultaneously, Search:
-[x] Goals:
--[x] Don't let Airi escape.
--[x] Don't let Airi or Hijiri ambush you.
--[x] Watch the sky.
-[x] Potential specifics:
--[x] If possible, don't come to a complete halt.
--[x] Camouflage: Spawn more Overlords, make fog cover, extend crew compartment so hits miss people.

Tweaks:
  • Point out that Hijiri getting her own place is probably a necessary step in helping Niko get over her vicarious-living thing. Hijiiri's reaction to that should be informative.
  • Get inside word count.
  • Suggest strategies for finding new things, not new things for her to try. She'll take any concrete suggestions as poisoned because it feels too much like control. Instead, give her suggestions for how to find new things that she'll like. She'll still feel that the search is a bit dictated, but once she finds something the layer of indirection will make it feel like hers.
  • Stole some words from other people.

I'll look over that when I have time, for now...

--[X] Lay a trap.
-[X] Potential specifics:
--[X] Agree with Mami's suggestion but ask her to be careful; You suspect Anri might try something.
--[X] If possible, don't come to a complete halt.
--[] Disguise yourself as a rooftop while a decoy is sent out.

[X] Simultaneously: Hijiri:
-[X] Goals:
--[X] Pretend you're distracted by Hijiri's question.
--[X] Continue therapy, answer her question.
-[X] Potential specifics:
--[X] Suggest just trying new things until knows what she can call her own. Define herself for herself.
--[X] Broach moving somewhere out from under Niko's shadow. Be that temporary or otherwise.
--[X] Let Hijiri take the lead, providing examples if asked.
--[X] Carefully, try to find things that could address her loneliness.
---[X] Ask if she'd want to find other wishborn girls.

[X] Simultaneously: Tell the Saints what you're doing.
-[X] Avoid telling them unconfirmed suspicions.

Took a fair bit from Veb's suggestion. Short on time, but notable additions:

Looking edited into search: Looking distracted to Hijiri doesn't matter to ambush if Anri sees us on high alert. (Unchecked rooftop disguise may be ill considered, needs more time to mull, but don't have it, would appreciate commentary)

I dislike the hypothesis to the saints. What we have is an unconfirmed suspicion. Not a fact.

I dislike the hypothesis to the saints. What we have is an unconfirmed suspicion. Not a fact.
We are going to a higher readiness level, and I think that that means we should tell our allies that something might be about to happen. Indicating source and confidence is probably a good idea, though.

-[] Tell Pleiades that Hijiri social weakly suggests Airi nearby

Something like that?

edit: Cribbing from other votes:

--[] She'll be under some scrutiny until she re-earns trust, but you'll make sure it's not too onerous.

I should probably put something like this into the next revision of my vote, when discussing helping Hijiri get some space.

"Okay, not optimal, BUT... I can work with that!"

... Of course, due to the law of special narrative relativity, Sakaqwest is in deep epilogue by the time Sabrina shows up, so it is all going to be about Sabrina being the worlds BEST cool aunt.
(Akane being the worlds strongest cool aunt.)

(And again - AFAIC Sabrina is a very light Blue.)

"Look... I'm here to help. I'm here to help everyone, and that includes you. I don't know what you want, but... at the end of all this, I'll try to find a way to make everyone happy," you say. "So, um. Yeah. Think about it?"

"What I want is simple, alright? I wanna go home. Back to my normal life, without her there," she snorts.

"Right," you say, wincing. "I'll... keep that in mind. But, um."

Hijiri sneers at you. "Yeah, didn't think so." She folds her arms and scowls.

@Vebyast

I'm concerned that your vote doesn't address Hijiri's stated desires at all. I think it's very likely that she doesn't actually want to stay in the life Niko prescribed her, but it's literally the answer she gave (and she likely has true feelings towards her family members too, so it's not like she wants to cut ties completely).

Disregarding her stated desires because we "know better" what she "really" wants is likely to set her off, so I think it's important to play along and acknowledge that yes, we'll provide a Clear Seed and stay with her family if she wants that.

I'd like to state the obvious for a moment, and remind everyone that Hijiri is a teenager.

She's most likely sersiously asking us to tell her what to do, since we're putting ourselves in the position that we want to help (and so that we believe we know how), that we want what's best for everybody, etc..

She'll likely discard whatever suggestion we give right afterwards, because she's a teenager, but right now I believe she really just wants a 'You should do X' answer; she probably won't listen to much else other than a direct answer, though there should be some leeway; she'll ignore us if we try to go on and on about her issues, if our answer isn't direct enough.

Hm. I felt like there was something off with the votes, but I wasn't sure what it was. And you're right, I definitely misread that last question. Okay, edits:

As I understand it, Hijiri doesn't actually dislike her current life in and of itself. Her first reaction in PMKM to learning about magical girl bullshit was concern for her mother and father, so I think it's safe to say that she really does love her family.

The problem is that this fairly decent life... was all set up by Niko. She cares about her family, but hates the fact that she's essentially a replacement that Niko left behind with the explicit mission to "care about her family". And so now all these things that she really does like and enjoy have been tainted by association.

So she isn't going to want to run away from home and cut all ties and whatever - she just feels like perhaps she has to to assert her individuality and prove, both to Niko and herself, that she's more than just a puppet.
