Something I expect when addressing Hijiri. She probably asked as she did, because she's hoping for a straight answer.

The kind of answer that tend to not exist for such complicated problems.

Alas, we mush push through that.

A thought I had a few days ago, about the hunt... What are the odds Airi is actually the other way? :p That Hijiri lied to us?

So, we have a thing with tendrils hanging down from it, that we're using to carry people and search for things?

I hereby rename this Mobile Oppression Fortress "Overlord", and the hunt for Anri "Operation Overlord".

"So what do you suggest I do?" Hijiri snaps, out of the blue.
So there may actually be a concrete answer here. Hijiri's in basically the same place that a lot of people are after they get out from a situation where they feel that they're controlled: She doesn't know what she wants because she feels like everything she's been doing wasn't hers. So give her the advice you'd give to, say, a student that escapes a severe case of helicopter parents by living in the dorms at an out-of-state university: Just go try a bunch of stuff and find interesting things. Added bonus - we can explicitly support Hijiri in distinguishing herself from Niko, which I think she'd appreciate.

[X] Mami:
-[X] Agree with her suggestion. Don't strain herself too much though.
[X] Hijiri
-[X] Suggestion goals:
--[X] Bring up Hijiri getting out from under Niko's shadow for a while. And possible methods if she's receptive.
--[X] Ask about visiting places she ever want to go or things she ever wanted to do.
--[X] Carefully, try to find things that could address her loneliness.
--[X] Find any criteria Hijiri is thinking of.
-[X]Potential specifics:
--[X] If she ever wanted to travel, she could take a vacation.
--[X] She talked about setting up in another city earlier. You could help.
--[X] There's probably a bunch of things she could learn to do with magic.
---[X]For one, there's probably thousands of enchantments out there to learn from other girls.
--[X] Ask if she'd want to meet or find other wishborn girls.
---[X] You're pretty sure there's at least two in Japan already, herself included, and it wouldn't surprise you to meet several more.

Are you serious? That's literally her trigger, mang. Awful idea all around, and I'd be amazed if she didn't literally physically attack us immediately after we said it.

Speaking of awful ideas, I removed the Sayaka thing from my vote. If she's already heard Oriko then it's mostly pointless.

[x] Hijiri:
-[x] Get her thinking of specific ways she can move forward.
--[x] She could stay with her family here, with a Clear Seed. She won't need to hunt.
--[x] Alternatively, are there places she ever wanted to go or things she ever wanted to do? You can do a lot to help her.
--[x] She'll be under some scrutiny until she re-earns trust, but you'll make sure it's not too onerous.
-[x] Keep progressing on the Niko/Hijiri relations front.
--[x] You don't believe things are irreparable between her and her sister. Did they reach any understanding during their earlier talk?
--[x] Ask Hijiri how she would feel if the Pleiades came to see (and treat!) her as a peer, maybe even someday a friend.

[x] Mami.
-[x] Agree. Initialize White Ribbon Search Protocols!

@Briefvoice

Funnily enough, yes, how you search does affect things. I have, I feel, given enough clues in the text that you can make a guess. I've always, always tried to do that - drop hints in text about how votes might affect future events.

I'll make a note here that a lot of the reason I don't talk about Hijiri staying home at all ties into the stuff Vebyast was talking about. I think she'd do well to explore her range of options, outside Asunaro. Part of why the wishborn stuff (sans the ill considered, now redacted option) is there too. Her feelings on being what she is It's the one thing that *absolutely* differentiates Hijiri from Niko.

[Worry over Mami "being at her limit"... intensifies?]

[X] Simultaneously, Mami:
-[X] Go for it!

[x] Simultaneously, switch to telepathy: Hijiri
-[x] If you're right that she's not sure what she wants out of life now that she's living it on her own, you may actually have a suggestion? Not a very direct one, but... Try a bunch of new stuff and find something you like.

I'm not convinced myself this is better than the other options but just posted for the sake of discussion. It's basically going all in on affirming Hijiri's independence.

[] Mami:
-[] Agree with her suggestion. Don't strain herself too much though.
[] Hijiri
-[] One of your main drives is some form of independence. If I were to lay out your path for you that would defeat the point.
-[] I can offer you a few tips to help your decision making though:
--[] Keep your options open for as long as possible. You don't want to do things that are difficult to undo like completely alienating your family and school friends until you're sure you're confident in the decision.
--[] Think about what you really want. Wanting to be respected as your own person separate from Niko and wanting to have your own purpose that you decide may sound similar but lead to very different ends.
-[] In the end you're your own person and have the right to choose. Also I might be able to offer you a clear seed eventually when they're calmer which will take some of the sting out of being a magical girl.

162 words.

We can potentially offer Hijiri a place in Mitakihara, or she might be able to hitch a ride with Nadia somewhere else, if that's what she's thinking of. Might be better to not mention Mitakihara because it could come across as "I don't trust you so I'm keeping an eye on you."

Nope. Hijiri goes to Magical Girl Prison, just like the other supervillains we've had to apprehend.

It's the safest option, after all. No one has ever escaped from Magical Girl Prison, in the time Sabrina has been running it.

-[X] Keep moving, with the smaller scan zone

Quick edit: I like Veb's line a lot.

This can definitely be pared down divide the points better and add space, but it will do for now.

I' liking this line of thought but I don't think we should just break conversation and say "oh by the way, I'm the product of a wish too." I can very easily see our defense of that statement veering heavily into bringing up our metaknowledge in an attempt to defend our statement, and with Mami around, we might want to watch what we say in that regard anyway.

I think we ought to examine why our choice of stopping to search a wider area, or searching a smaller area while staying mobile, will have a noteworthy impact on events.

Ah shit, guys?

Hijiri is playing us.

We've given her every reason to believe that we can't focus on the outside world and on our powers at the same time. Sabrina is the one who is performing the search for our group. We are part of a net that's sweeping the city. Hijiri has been communicating with Anri. Hijiiri, who has been entirely closed off has suddenly, out of the blue, decided that she wants to talk about this.

Hijiri is attempting to distract us so Anri can slip through the net.

Well, if Hijiri wants to make a break for it, she'd no longer be doing so from a fast moving vehicle. And she might think she could use the tendrils to rappel down.

And Hijiri does have anti-magic, so she could concievably blast a hole in the bottom or around her and make good her escape. Especially if it disables or slows the invisible grief cloud around her head we never told her about, so she doesn't know to be wary of. And which Sabrina would be loath to actually use on people.

And if Anri is in communications with Hijiri, maybe they are waiting for an opportunity. It doesn't necessarily need to be one that will work either, just one they think has a chance of working.

Plus, I believe Hijiri actually knows what the Clear Seed is by now, and could have instructed Anri about it if she didn't already know. So I suppose there's that too.

That's also a pretty notable possibility.

Well, I need sleep at the moment but I'll note that I'm not thinking of saying it outright. Mostly I left it as a hint while other stuff is the actual focus.

I think we ought to examine why our choice of stopping to search a wider area, or searching a smaller area while staying mobile, will have a noteworthy impact on events.
First thing that comes to mind: Mami's going from "distracted, but otherwise fine" to "at her limits, while distracted by the influence of enchantment" If something happens to her as a result, we have that to deal with as well as whatever else.

Or busting Hijiri out of the cop car.

*Edits vote to "stay small and mobile" option*

Hmm.

@Firnagzen

Sensing through Mami's ribbons doesn't notably disrupt us, right? We could keep looking while engaging Hijiri fairly easily?

If that is in fact the case, then it should be possible to trip Hijiri up by acting like she's distracted us.

Make a whole production out of stopping, shifting the seats so we're facing each other, talking at length, etc... While we're actually on high alert and Mami is spreading ribbons (not to her fullest extent, can't make it too obvious or too straining, but enough that it covers most of the immediate region.)

Airi trying to attack us now would be great. Just ask Mami to throw some ribbons upwards, not only down, because Airi attacks from above.

Other than that, if Hijiri was trying to distract us from the search, Airi might be trying to slip through somewhere else.

I think Hijiri's being honest, for what it's worth.

But yeah, precaution: Ask Mami to spread the ribbons up, too. Airi flies.

"Well, the first thing I'd suggest would be to talk Niko into recognizing that stalking you is five kinds of creepy and not okay. The second thing I'd suggest would be to befriend her so she doesn't come back with a telescope, which would conveniently mend bridges with the Pleiades enough for you to feel comfortable living in the same city as them. That might not be possible I suppose, in which case I suggest you talk to the other Pleiades. There are seven of them, the chance of there being no common ground between you and any of them is nil. I understand that you are either afrad of or angry at them, but given that you have had minimal social interaction with them previously, I honestly suspect that it's largely unfounded."

And yes, that's my vote, even if Kai doesn't actually end up voting. :V
