Heavily armed and insanely rich fruitcakes. If the military aristocracy where still in charge they would be more sensible about the arithmetic of war.

not necessarily, there's more to war than coin and men, and many a war ended in the most unlikely of fashions. The HK either know something we don't, they lack intel about actual ymar capabilities, they have capabilities that we don't know of, they are relying on something that we don't know/take into account, the war serves a purpose for them regardless of victory, the threat against ymar was just a PR move...etc.

there's plenty of variables to take into account as to why they would imply a war or actually fight one.

Sure they might salvaged laser weapons from a crashes space ship for all we know, but from the information we actually have they are making a massive strategic error.

ofcourse these variables are moot in the end, since its about damn time we went a conquering, and the highlands would make for some fine terraces and mountain shrine/palaces.
most importantly, the bordergore would be finally fixed.

I don't want to conquer all of the HK but I support Citino (?) in getting the mountain passes from them.
But the lowland canal comes first.

On the subject of counting our chickens before they hatch:
-I'm not interested in annexing/vassalizing the former Khem territory that the HK holds.
-I'm convinced that holding the Highland Kingdom core territory would result in near-constant rebellions/troublemaking.
-If possible, I'd prefer to take their northernmost hilly province (hopefully preventing them from being able to cut off our Anatolian holdings in the future), as well as their lowland holdings.

I was thinking more along the line of they have new tactics or strategies they developed in their recent civil war or the fact that their troops are quite seasoned from said war and the current war, or that they managed to instil proper zeal unto the troops, making risky and suicidal tactics more viable. perhaps they are planning on dragging us into the highlands in case of war, where they have an immense advantage, not to mention a catalyst of holy war in defence of the holy land kind of thing. or maybe they just want to grab loot, and they don't really care what happens to the lands outside of the highlands, so long as its thoroughly looted. or they may be confident enough in the defence of their homelands that they can focus their entire might on offensives against year itself, whilst our own forces are stuck sieging mountain forts.
or they expect someone to join in in case of war, or perhaps a divine intervention/miracle.

For the group liking to conquer the entire HK (or HT (aka Highland Theocracy)), please note that we would be internalization a different organized religion; unless we mass-exile or conduct massacre.

Personally I would be content with spanking them and sending them back to stew in their hills and fragment from the death of their manifest destiny.

I want to remove any shred of Lowland holdings from them and make them release Khemetri colonies - not to us, just free them, to make a point of "all your conquests were pointless, sit down idiots" ,but kinda whatever wrt actual mountains of their.

@Academia Nut , whats the standard equipment of the average bloke? how many of our military wear riveted maille and case hardened equipment? what about the helmets and gambesons and regular maille/scale?. how many arrows/botls are carried? how many spears/javelins. and whats the sword and knife usage? whats the actual composition of a standard warrior panoply?
Also, how capable are Ymar of living off the land ? can they do it 100% or do they require extensive supply trains/depots and cant advance too far from waterways?

No the trader thing is after the bonus if we have an actual level 3. We get culture income from a virtual level 3

Hm.

Grand Bazaar
This overlarge example of a market serves as the cultural archetype of what a market is, forcing all others in the kingdom to step up their game. All markets have their effects increased as if they were one level higher, and can build markets one level higher than city level would normally allow, at double cost.
System Note: Level 1 Markets now convert 100% of city Econ input into Wealth, Level 2 Markets additionally convert 25% of Econ input into Culture, and Level 3 Markets will give Merchant Actions.

Ahhh. So ex-lvl2 is lvl1 and doubles Wealth from it. My bad, thought those are two different effects. Nevermind, @Academia Nut .

Shame, really.

I don't think folks have any interest of conquering their hills. It's just too much work.

But we can take away their lowland holdings and basically neuter them.

I'll look into doing up a more detailed informational post, but the "average" really depends on what is going on. In a total war scenario you will activate mass levy, in which case the average warrior will be equipped with a crossbow, about twenty to thirty bolts, a large knife, a short sword, a gambeson supplemented with a light mail shirt for the torso, and a cheap leather and iron helm/semi-protective hat.

Each of the banner companies has a specialty, but they are all quite well equipped. Red Banner has the heaviest gear, with plenty of riveted maille, iron scale, and cast bronze plates and helms. They are something like Roman triarii with more specialists attached. The Dragon Banner is more steppe skirmishers, with charioteers slowly being phased out with cavalry, and fewer heavy infantry. Blood Rain Banner is a better equipped version of the crossbowmen, with heavier armour and heavier draws on their weapons, as well as support gear like pavises.

Conquest is bad. We're overextended as it is and with costs doubling the likelihood of us getting roads will lower significantly. Let's try to minimise the amount of new holdings we get and give what we can to the Harmurri.

I don't usually vote these days, but I felt that I needed to speak up in memory of Nahachaphuria.

The action list doesn't often have an option to address the half-exile situation. There are actions to enforce the law, but they're blunt instruments, and the perpetrators usually subvert the law rather than defying it, so those won't work. The thread hasn't wanted this quasi-slavery, but hasn't had any obvious way to avoid it.

There is an opportunity here to fix a deep-seated problem, and the high cost simply reflects how much corruption and oppression (some of) the People have been getting away with.

For Naha!

[X] [Purity] If slavery is so bad in comparison, maybe even the half-exiles need to be addressed (-1 Stability, the next Patrician, Guild, and Trader quests are all spite quests, all Wealth costs are doubled going forward)
