Reminder that we have a mystic genius that has likely been speeding up the build speed of the Place to the Stars, so it's very likely we'll get up to 7 actions with one action.

You know, despite the obvious benefits from being on the scene when the TH blew up, I'm not entirely comfortable with us getting credit for that. I'd be happy to let that CB fade into obscurity.

Honestly, I'm probably okay with all of the Genius options, but it seems like Diplo isn't going to get any synergy with a Trade Mission this turn. Obviously we can still use them later, but it's a thing.

I would much rather finish the PttS while our Genius Mystic and Heroic (Genius now?) Admin who are working on math problems are potentially still alive. Finishing quests is nice, but this could be amazing.

I seem to recall he was both as a result of significant lead poisoning.

But that aside, can you really argue that the geniuses who produce some of our most spectacular works of art, music, and science don't tend to be a little off their rocker? It isn't a bad thing, just something that generally is.

Maybe because being a genius means you're more likely to be off your rocker.

Who remembers the not-genius who are a bit off?

It's less that geniuses are crazy, and more that to become known as a genius, you have to be willing to step beyond the bounds of what your society considers possible.

A scientist might discover a whole new branch of research that nobody ever considered before, or a diplomat could unify groups that have a thousand years of hatred separating them, or an admin might be able to overhaul the entire government to make something new and more robust.

Heroes are men that go beyond what is normal, but they are people that can still be understood. They are men that are magnified, while a genius is someone who can enter a place that no man has ever walked before.

a giant ass canal in Gulvalley
Yes, because giant ass is the most common word ancient wonders of the world. Like the 'giant ass' Lighthouse of Alexandria.
Or the bloody massive Hanging Gardens.
The Trelli on the other hand were actually actively over the People's discussion of the whole issue
Is there a word missing here?
we must continue the People's tradition of peace and generosity.
The Ymaryn stand for four things. Peace, Justice, Generosity and the Orbital Strike.

Hah. So all it took for our religion to begin spreading outside our country was to magically summon a meteor?

Because I feel that a) we're going to have to whack the ever loving shit out of the Trelli sooner rather than later, and because the geopolitical ramifications of the Ymaryn making that canal basically demand the Trelli respond aggressively. It's like I said so long ago, the Trelli have to stifle our trade and exploration for their profits, and we have to circumvent that stifling for our own interests- it's a conflict of interests that isn't going to be easy to address.

As for the HK- at this point, I just want to pull a Rome-Pergamon on them and be done with it, or to consolidate and secure all these sick gains we just got.

I really want to see what an admin genius can do.

Actually, what is better in the long term? Trying to diploannex/conquer/destroy the Trelli, or building the Canal? I mean, the canal would be great since it would lead to the Trelli losing most of their wealth as the Khemetri start trading through us instead, but taking the city for ourselves would be pretty amazing.

In my opinion we literally can't conquer them currently.
We bloated enormously this last turn - we have to concentrate inward, to bring our house in order.
To attack anyone now, while still trying to integrate all the refugees and new lands would probably lead to a disaster.

The thing about the canal is that it will never stop being useful, since it still a massive shortcut between Khemetri and Redshore.

If we build the canal we will have to conquer the Trelli I think. Their entire civ is centered around being the point of contact between Khemetri and everyone else. If we built a canal we would be yanking the rug out from under them. They would likely try and blockade it out of sheer desperation leading to use having to conquer them.

Honestly, I can't imagine that the Trelli will start a war with us unless we circumvent their their trade monopoly somehow. As such, our ability to war against them is limited. Ironically, building the Canal may be the only way to get them to attack us, and if we conquer them we will have rendered it redundant.

Canal. It means access to the Saffron Sea without having to absorb more land and strain our Administration even more, it's a land management project, and we don't really want to leave our traders without competition. As long as the Trelli are there, they focus on out-competing them. If they attain Hegemony over the local trade though, they'll turn inward and try to take over our entire society. And since they have the most money...

Personally, I'd be happy simply leveraging free passage.

Means we're still keeping most of the Mediterranean nations at a distance rather than sharing a border.

Not going to cry if we end up conquering or annexing Trelli, though.

Both I think. The Trelli's only power comes from trade and they are highly dependant on that.

Once we build the canal and cut them off? We'll basically force them into some drastic action or cause them to fall apart.
