I wasn't implying it was.

The point is the narrative has always held that magic is real, while OOC AN has never commented to confirm one way or another. We eventually decided they just thought that because of the time period but that was just a thread decision. I don't see it at all comparable to the Percy Jackson example where presumably (Never read it) the narrative implied they were actually gods beforehand and your proposed addition would have been a massive tone change.

Okay, that settles it.

Magic is real.

Quite simply, there is no other way to predict this impact. You simply can not do it. Astrology (and primitive astronomy) rely on the observation of patterns to do stuff like this. Ie, every X years this happens, every Y years that happens. But there's no pattern to an impact. An impact happens once, then never again.

In order to predict this impact, we'd need telescopes to see the object; a correct heliocentric model of the solar, the theory of gravity, and probably the theory of relativity as well. This stuff is so far out of our reach that it's not even funny.
More to the point, we get Astrology Warning rolls. Like, we actually get hard, mechanical rolls to attempt to use magic to predict the future that, if passed, apparently give us disturbingly precise plans to take advantage of future events that are impossible to predict through conventional means.

But then there's also the fact that the prophecy wound told us exactly what to do to have the entire thunder horse army decapitated by the comet.

Yeah, doesn't that basically open up the hole in our logistics? Or are the HK still fucking us in that sense?

(Man, what I wouldn't give to be a fly on the wall in their palace right around now)

[X] [Conq] Take the northern lowlands (Thunder Speakers become vassal, Txolla annex additional territory, gain Ruined Thunder Horse as vassal, remainder fragment, -4 Econ and 4 temporary Econ damage from supporting wrecked vassal)
[X] [Refugee] Send out runners that you have food and intact farmland (6 temporary Econ damage, -6-8 Econ Expansion, -1 Stability, chance of further loss, +6-8 Econ next turn)
[X] [PttS] Black Mirror
[X] [PttS] 0 Stability
[X] [Diplo] Let's maybe spread out in case the gods throw another bolt (Found Far Northern Trade Post)
[X] [PSN] Bit more black soil (Sec Black Soil, -1 Centralization)

Honestly, I hope we get a chance to excavate that shit. Meteoric Metal is probably the best metal you can find in a pre-industrial world.

It was an airburst meteroid or comet. There is no crater, and there is no metal to find.

If it was a comet, then it was made of water and ice.

If it was a meteorite, then it's spread through the soil.

That's actually pretty simple scenario to have happen.

Tormulyna makes a bunch of idiot savant level calcs and localizes that there is going to be a Bad Thing coming into a region between us and the Thunder Horse. The priests look at it, don't quite get it because they aren't on her level, and she can't explain it. Then they come up with the prophecy to try and frame what she is talking about and then sheer luck has it happen that the army gets squished.

Basically, the Thunder Horse army being where it was could well have been just luck. Which does not preclude everything before it being something weird.

(this is me just attempting to be specific here)

We made an open declaration not to attack the HK while our king and heir lived, which means that the HK are probably relieved that we don't plan on dropping a comet on them.

On the subject of PttS, I've been waffling on which site is best since the vote started. AN's response that Horse Valley would be best for observations swung me for a bit, but I've swung back now.

Why?

Fucking Magic, man.

Whether or not magic is real, this last update has given me immense faith in the unquantifiable. If we pick Horse Valley, I suspect we'll get what we paid for: the best site for celestial observation. Thing is, there's something screwy going on with the Black Mirror. Whether or not the increased Mysticism leads to deep contemplation of complex questions or actual God damn magic isn't important to me. After the last update, I'm willing to roll the dice on the unknown.

I just have to hope my evolving opinion does not correlate with my increasing intoxication.

If we are going to categorize it I would say she also has some very weak telekinesis "the crow which trips" and telepathy "the crow which confounds".

If I was going to categorize.
That was not canon. Academia did not write it.

If Magic is real, I think it is working at a macroscale. Forces much larger than anyone can control, but also very metaphysically loud. Such as there is a an actual Death, and he leaves signs of his destinations(this is what Yenyna sees and her mind interprets). This could mean that in this universe Correlation may in fact equal Causation.

They are still an issue. But muuuuuuuuch less of one because... who would be suicidally stupid enough to try to piss off the culture that just apparently colony dropped someone they were less pissed at than the HK? It makes sense to me that they thus have much less inclination to push us right now and will for some time.

(I too would love to be a fly on their wall right now)

[X] [PttS] Black Mirror

I just want a kickass star mirror mystic site of badassery to impress people for years to come and gather background belief magic. Its not like the Black Mirror WON'T be useful for science, it just won't be as useful for science as the other site.

The comparative gains are likely to be outshone decisively as we advance in tech so its better to accumulate some raw mystic power now while it still holds major sway before the age of enlightenment potentially changes it later on.

and that's another thing. We gave up on the HK for this! This is a terrible trade!
Is it?

We just took basically every part of the Lowlands besides the HK for free, greatly increased the power of our religion, and got a buttload of prestige for it.

We didn't even have to fight for it, they will willingly become our vassals.

The Hk will now be surrounded by us and the Khemetri, and we can now begin to diplo annex them instead.

Oh. Whoops!

I do remember now that he liked it and put it in side story. But you are right. Mah bad!

And yeah what you are saying about magic sounds good, dependent on the question of "Is magic real or not?".

Let's not forget that our genius martial somehow knew that a shit ton of people are going to be killed by something coming from the sky...before there was an actual sign that she could've picked up on. There was no looming noise, no light, nothing that could've indicated a meteor was approaching. She already reacted to it before anyone could hear or see it.

If it spreads that our people believe that the thunder horse was suited because the gods were annoyed at all the wars and the reason we promised peace with the HK was due to this I woul not be surprised if every civilization near us just decides to have peace for the full detritus terrified of angering the gods.

I don't care about expanding into the lowlands, I wanted to make friends out of every other neighbor except HK, I would rather religion not gain so much power in our government as predicting an event like this will give them, I don't care about prestige, and I wanted to militarily take over HK in order to have more leverage in forcibly dismantling their separate administrative system.

This is the most damning thing isn't it...

I mean you can get hypersensitive people on the spectrum that react strangely to things normal folks have difficulty perceiving, but that's not really her thing. *shrug* I'm just spitballing ideas here.
