Because walls don't help in an offensive war? Duh?

I have seen this post 4 times now, we go to war or we just come off a war and someone says we should do the defense and then this post comes up.

If you are right then we not only will not do the defense Policy ever. We should not do defense policy ever.

And people wonder why all our wars are bloodbaths.

Statwise, that is horrendous. Narratively, a Universal Military Service requirement would give our citizenry a shared cultural background, reducing culture drift, decreasing internal rivalries, and generally makes our civ more awesome.
Narratively, what we are doing wouldn't be remotely close to a Universal Military Service requirement; we have nothing close to the number of military "spots" in our armies that would satisfy that. Also, it would require at least two secondaries of Mains each turn.

Thanks, but no thanks. I'd rather focus on other interesting narrative effects, like double maining Forests or Trails or something.

Or, hey. With our new Guild actions, we can actually take Main x3 for any Guild effect: more boats, Support Artisans, etc...

What if next turn we were to stay on megaproject support and use our guild action to start the grand docks

Also like double main war the high backstabbers

On the other hand, the docks are being built at Redshore, right?

And our Games are currently held at Redshore as well, right?

Do we really want a half finished megaproject causing issues for the first International Games?
Part of me wonders if that would actually enhance our prestige in the eyes of the Khemetri.

I mean, The Games turn 1 after war, International games turn 2, Grand docks and a war of conquest turn 3?
OH HEY!
I want a legacy for building 3 megaprojects one after another!

I'd much rather do it this way now that I remembered the Guild Action.

1 GD this turn
1 Guild GD next turn + 1 GD+ offense + (possibly secondary War HK)

Because a double main no longer actually leverages all our martial anymore. We'd be sitting at 25 effective martial before factoring in the Red Banner- that requires 3 Main Wars to really use (24 out of 25) considering the entire point here is as decisive and bloodless a total victory we can manage, I'd much rather spend a single turn utterly focused on ending the HK than risk the war bogging down for an extra turn or 2.

So your argument for why we need a Defensive policy for the war next turn is... what? That if we don't do defensive policy now, we never will? What does that have to do with the war next turn?

Defensive policy is what you take preemptively to reduce losses if you are invaded. It has some synergy with expecting a defensive war soonish, and is something you might want to do in general when you have the spare econ and actions for it. And if you are going to argue that we have stats and actions now, go for it - at least that argument would be cogent. But arguing that we need defensive policy to go to war next turn is mind-boggling. And that is exactly the argument you were making, and I was decrying: "I just don't think anyone who isn't voting defence should thank that we're going to war next turn."

I want the extra trade good a turn earlier.
It should be noted that we just got +1 Wealth from leading Pilgrimage, so we'd need 2 more trade goods to get the next stat drip.

The biggest advantage to poppies is safety- if we randomly get hit by -1 econ from weather or something, Poppies still gives us the Stability whereas Dock falls short. On the other hand, Megaprojects are awesome and consistently give major benefits in line with their costs in the long term. It'll also help us set up for dealing with the Trelli.
