I just had a thought but Gwy and Gyo are basically the Ymaryn equivalent of Izanami and Izanagi what with the creation duo who are primordial and aren't the foucus of worship compared to their 'children'.

Well, thinking about it, if the Thunder Horse don't have it themselves which seems likely given the lack of tin trade items, then it is probably the Eastern Nomads or some civ we don't know about out to the East who have access to the metal. And the Stallions just sent a trade caravan thataway so... *wiggles eyebrows*

Could be something.

Which of these depictions would be in the Temple if Mathulmyn is centrally placed? And if Mathulmyn isn't?

How do the Ymaryn usually depict gods with multiple aspects?

Take a wild guess what the next phase of the arguments about the temple will be :p

Thus far, outside of Crow who is different in that he has multiple aspects rather than depictions, the depictions have been very local and thus conflicting ideas haven't particularly come up yet.

I'm really kinda glad pertussis hasn't come back since. That shit be bad.

Technically it's still there, it just hasn't gone back up to epidemic levels since it first arrived.

Ahh. Well then.

Hmmm... ehhhh... maybe next time?

Who do you think would grant innovation bonuses, Crow?
Well, it's complicated, noting that, as many have stated before, whoever we enshrine as the central figure will become pantheon head eventually:

Crow + Alien and unknowable

These would define the fundamental principle of the universe as being Weird Shit. What is known of the spirits becomes more secret. Think the earlier versions of the Abrahamic god where attempting to Know God was hubris for mere mortals and should be restricted to the priests tending the secrets.

Crow + Alien but knowable
Crow + Benevolent
Crow + Prankster

These would be the combos which encourage a mentality of curiosity and a sense of exploration.
Alien would be studying with no preconceptions that there is a lesson behind things.
Benevolent justifies going above and beyond, trusting that there is a good thing behind it all.
Prankster would be more of a paranoid stance, since the main goal is to fuck with you, and teaching you is incidental. It's be studying the world to see how you can be fucked.

Gwy and Gyo + Any Alien

These would frame it as Crow being the Ymir/Pan Gu figure. The one from before time. Powerful, but beyond the concerns of all but shamans.

Gwy and Gyo + Prankster/Benevolent

These would likely reverse the relationship over time. Crow the troublesome child and messenger of Gwy and Gyo(remember they are the parents of all animals and so the flow is easily reversed).

Fythhagyna + Any Alien

Fythhagyna displaces Gwyn and Gyo as mother of all, while Crow exists as the Nyx figure that came before, always present, but not really beseeched.

Fythhagyna + Any non-Alien

Possibly wind up marrying the two, setting up as mother of plants and father of beasts. What a troublesome husband he is.

Mathulmyn + Benevolent

Mathulmyn as King who solves challenges, Crow as the shaman Advisor who makes challenges to teach the King.

Mathulmyn + Prankster
Mathulmyn + Any Alien

Crow as the Opposer, the Great Primordial Demiurge tormenting the People that the Just King saves people from and builds civilization upon.

Remember, Crow's existence fundamentally contravenes many of the Ymaryn's principles. He feasts upon the unclean dead, he disrupts the social order and he is a figure of fear. It wouldn't be very hard to change him to a devil-figure.

...how is he a demon exactly? He's been considered a trickster god mainly.

Demons are defined in Ymaryn theology as those spirits outside the symphony of the system. Crow comes from outside the system, but CREATED the system, so he is simultaneously inside and outside the system.

Here is a strong reason to vote for Gwy and Gyo, Mathulmyn, or Fythhagyna. Gender roles.

This thread has known for a while that gender equality is something we have to be on the look out for our society. Yes, we're not near as bad as the other groups, but that can change, and AN has acknowledged that it is a subtle issue in our society. It's easier for women to have roles inside the house because in order to keep population up they need to have a lot of children (curse you child mortality). So in some parts of our kingdom, particularly the north I'd bet, there are boys who grow up surrounded by men in positions of authority. So they think it's natural that men are the decision makers, even if there are stories of female rulers. So they unconsciously give less credence to some women. And this is a self-reinforcing cycle. The best way to combat this is to have examples of women in power.

Crow in all his forms, from Teacher to Trickster to Devourer, is male. He's a great guy, and it is going to take some serious cultural drift for him to not be acknowledged as important in our culture. A strong point against women being any less capable of rule is having our primary god be a woman or be of both genders, as is a common trend in our culture's spirituality. Gwy and Gyo are both hermaphrodites, Mathulmyn is a three form god (like Crow) with one of them being female, and Fythhagyna is a woman.

We leapt at the chance to have a woman as King, let's leap at the chance to have a woman as the head of our pantheon.

[X] [Temple] Crow

Crow is the progenitor of all. If for nothing else, he deserves the place at the center, above all others. Crow is also responsible for leading the people to salvation and the Garden. For this alone, he also deserves the place of honor. This does not ensure that Crow is prayed to. He does not require prayers, it ensures that he is looking down over all his children. Both the spirits and the People. Keeps all and sundry honest. If this should be the central temple to the people, then it should be dedicated to the very core of our beliefs.

Mathulmyn is young in the eyes of the people. He oversees the wisdom of the king, but he must in turn be overseen by his progenitor. He should be one of the future additions, but not the centerpiece of the most important temple our people will ever build.

[X] [Crow] Alien but knowable
[X] [Boats] Not the boats, but where they are made

As others said, shipyard.

The other two are bandwagoned, and I don't terribly care.

True Cities explicitly worsen disease checks, and that refugee wave was from people fleeing pertussis, for which good hygene does nothing.

I'm sure it would have ended wonderfully.
Yeah? Just like almost all epidemics, it'd die out after a short while as people gain resistance to it. We'd get hit worse but not that bad. Anyone who managed to get all the way to us would either have gotten sick and gained immunity already or wouldn't have the disease in the first place.

Also I wonder if after this we will be able to make temples to the other gods as an extended project and if so maybe making a temple to the god of kings when we build the Palace will have some nice synergy?

We need to move to more proper theology, and establishing King Gods and proper rites and veneration is a good start.

As for Crow Alien and unknowable should have interesting theological implications and developments.

For boats the chance for shipyards or docks is too good to miss.

On Drought I say either March or order, both have thier use.

On refugees I say take all. It gives Econ and chance of new stuff. Also the QM did say that there are things we never take. Max refugees is something we never ever took.
