Maybe it is going all in on welcoming refugees I mean if people from the outside say that there are other reasons for the cough and there are a lot of them then obviously metals are not bad
Yeah, but unless we want to get into a civil war with the part of the country with significant martial traditions that's been expanding martial we're going to have to suck it up and try and integrate them anyway.
Frankly I love them. They're an accidental social experiment in a time when the results of the experiment can be most easily applied in mass. They're liable to have a number of bad traits, but from the filth and muck may rise at least one good feature.

Alright, that should be clear enough for everyone.
Seems that Main New Settlement + Main New Trails may be the best way to reduce the problem at present.
Probably too early to say yet. Key factors:
-Increase connectivity. Without enough Trails binding us together, chances are we won't even get much say when they finally break away on their own.
-Address inequalities. Build projects for them, not just our core polities.
-Slow down on the refugees. Large numbers only worsen the problem.
And we know at least one thing that people don't want will need to be done so:
-Push a stat to red intentionally
-Pay Stability
-Compromise on Ymaryn values
-Use of oppression
Yes, but it's painful and chancy: Bite the bullet and take proscribed actions (nine or study) and then pray to the mighty RNG we won't get a plague that turn. We may have to do it more than once, but eventually it should get through people's thick skulls.
IIRC, the wording was that the ST had been piling up useless cruft beliefs for generations, but the ST were never willing to take the hit (which means it was likely Stability or Economy, their weakest pair of stats) to remove any of them.
Specifically Stability and Centralization. They were described as being fanatically obsessed with maintaining maximum Stability and Centralization.
Economy was a problem, but it's more of a symptom than the source.
Never said we had to grab something from them. At the worst end result of local collapse, their mistakes without our intervention will solidify that certain practices are unacceptable in the extreme, like hereditary rule or hereditary land ownership.
I am honestly proud that in the whole history of the People, not only there wasn't a civil war, but not even an (spirits blessed) assassination.
That our society holds together this well under pressure is to a great degree a consequence of this, I think.
Just remember the possibilities we had as we have gotten Blackbirds for the first time, and did not use them "to take care of" anyone, making a political murder far, far less acceptable in the People's society.
That Cwrid did not start a civil war is, I think, a great success of our long term politics.
This gives us now time to take care of the northern provinces.
To be the ones to begin violence against others of the People...
It is a truly great social taboo, one not easily broken.
With diplomacy, trails and infrastructure we should be able to turn them around in time.
They are still a minority.
We should keep stability high, found another province or two, improve roads and infrastructure, internal trade, and then the values of the majority, and these are not values of the northern provinces, will propagate, taking care of the situation.
We are not even in an official "crisis" yet, and with proper actions I think we never have to be.
More than that.
This unknown shiny from the green "3" in stability? Can probably help us deal with that a lot.
Also, to all the people insisting that Stability 0 or Stability 1 was sufficient, you were completely wrong and your opinions on it would've caused us to suffer badly if they were listened to. It's a good thing they were ignored.
Switching policy is better. Switch to expansion to make the provinces, and we open up a secondary to do whatever we want.
IMO the dam is still a better choice, but at least be efficient for your own plans.
First of all, The Dam is actually neutral in cost thanks to all our bonuses. We get Art, Mysticism, Stability, a partial Econ refund, (about 5.5 actions of stats) and a massive increase in drought resistance. This is in exchange for ~8 actions worth of investment since it's likely to be far closer to the bottom of the range due to a Heroic leader. (And copper) The dam would be another 1-turn completion megaproject, which could have done interesting effects on our society (positive or negative). It would be big and obvious, a clear sign that she is at least as good as those Kings which came before her.
It also leaves us open to doing the trails or enforce law next turn, once the anger over not picking their guy has died down a little. It'd even be safe to go double main on that if we want to see what will happen, or it's safe to Enforce Law and get some free stability out of it.
No one exactly looks forward to losing Stability, but one of the big reasons I and many others want Stability as high as it is is that it lets us take the optimal course of action during a crisis. Instead of having to compromise to avoid going critically unstable, we can pick all the options we want to deal with it. Because of this policy, we were able to take the instability-causing hero and not fear dropping into the negatives even with refugees.
The problem people have isn't with paying stability, it's with not building it back up afterwards so that we can safely pay it again later. The opponents of high stability believe in this method too, but their flawed thinking leads them to believe it's better to do so in a way where the low points of stability are in the negatives.
[X] Random Admin tech upgrade
[X] Magwyna (-1 Stability, other effects, [Poor Martial, Heroic Admin and Diplo])
[X] New Trails (-1 Econ, +1 Diplo, +1 Centralization, other effects)
[X] Take in some (Chance of stability loss, +2 Econ)
If we switch policies next turn, we should really consider going with Trade. With our Heroic Diplomacy hero, we could get a TON of good out of this. Four actions worth of trading per turn, all enhanced by a hero...

There is no shiny from having 3 stability. We started the last project turn with 3 stability. It did... nothing. Zilch. Nada. As previously assumed, hitting the cap doesn't grant magical bonuses because we're at the cap, just like hitting the cap in literally any other stat doesn't grant some magical bonus, either. There is no inherent advantage to having high stability other than having it should we want to spend it.
I had previously speculated that Stability, at best, provides a +3-5 for rolls where stable, trustworthy government provides a boon. I stand by this speculation, because now that we've been at 3 and mana hasn't fallen from heaven, incremental booster seems the most likely mechanical effect.
I am struck with a question.
@Academia Nut, if we elect Magwyna, does her heroic administration apply immediately?

Locked in, and rolled things out and... there is a possibility I will not update tonight. Both because of needing to do other things, and figuring out how to portray these results.
You, you said you probably wouldn't update yesterday, and then you posted it just after I went to sleep. Why AN, why do you do this to me?!?
Anyway, I feel that getting new trails later wont help the fact that the March and the Northern provinces will feel more ignored NOW, right after Magwyna gets elected. The other effects from New Trails strikes me as an option to let them better see what a female king can do, as well as show them how women are more integrated into our society.

Also, as a reminder for people to stay civil so that the mods don't have to bring their hammers here, have some cute animal pics.
