I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

@soulcake: i have a few questions for a potential item crafting write in:

how do the prosthetic runes interact with dwarfs that are not missing body parts? I think Snorri did this kind of research with Jorri... So it's think it should work.

Could you wear a prosthetic arm on a harness and use it like a third arm?
Or a prosthetic eye on the back of a helm be used to gain 360 vision?
Or a held eye be used as a periscope? (or a fibre optic camera to peep down holes)

What is the range of the rune of direction? And can it be used to control a rune of speech?

@soulcake How does Snorri deal with the possibility of his own equipment potentially being self aware enough to be a breech of his vows of secrecy?

A couple of thoughts
  • Snorri might just die of shame when he realizes the Siphon rune is subverting the leyline network's attempt to suck the excess magic out of the world
  • I wonder if we could make "receiver" runes for allied brana or elves to receive the siphoned wind in their area for spellcasting
  • Windgulper rune: greedily sucks down as much Wind as possible, burning down the level of Winds of Magic in an area
  • Master Windgulper: redirects the energy into limited internal storage or towards other active runes when possible

-- 3/3 Major Charges available, when doing a difficult request you can choose to use the Anvil and have the resulting piece of Runecraft be subject to its energies.
...Huh. Would it theoretically be possible to inscribe the Rune of Siphoning onto the Anvil of the Earth to refill its Major Charges?

Once we have the Rune of Kingship, we could make the Crown there.

Also: should we fortify the place?
makes me wonder if we can use multiple charges at once, especially if we can refiill them, or make a battery to store more charges so we can dump even more.

Presumably, the charges will automatically regenerate next time there is a Storm.

Another logical use would be the Dragon Gronti... but i don't think we will be able to fit the thing on the anvil...

The capstone Gronti should get at least one. Maybe the windsight eye we end up making but that honestly will probably be overkill. Personally I'm thinking our next personal talisman which should revolve around magical energy manipulation and would likely benefit greatly. Especially if we include whatever we come up with for deep magic runes next.

I'm fond of a Runestaff. Also, Remaking the Conversion talisman with Adamant and the Master Rune of Valaya + 2 other runes... unless we want to go for a Primordial world theme talisman.

Maybe the Heart of the World? No idea what to put on it though.

I believe the current main idea for the talisman is something very good at channeling energy, due to how the storm & anvil went. Could still fit antimagic aspects into that easily. As for making it fit in theme you could play up the deep magic thing and hope Soul is feeling kind. Deep Magic must come from somewhere and played some sort of role in the past of the world.

That and the fact that a mobile version of our new deep magic rune would be perfect for an antimagic talisman or maybe even a magic directing one. It's all about directing deep magic to it then breaking it up into something useable. Slap another rune for controlling/dispelling regular magic, and a third rune (personally hoping MRune of Thungni, depending on what we learn about it), and all of that on the Anvil? Should turn out very nice and have a decent chance of fitting our set. Maybe the beginnings of the rune of sorcery too.
Edit: there's also the "grounding" spells aspect from the deep magic tap, maybe?

I agree we need to get the language down, but also, we should work on the clue and waystones, first because it looks like Yorri can help, second because we have things attacking them specifically now
By waystones you mean protecting the network, and maybe trying to repair them?

Or do you mean material research on the waystones? Or is it the wardstones material research you want?

I'd also make the big rune of siphoning for the workshop at the anvil since that seems like an easy powerup for the rune. Ideally whatever we put in the runiversity as a power tap should be made at the anvil anyway.

Dig through every scrap of lore and knowledge you possess and see if something can be brought to light.

These Wardstones, the last creations of the Runesmiths of Karag Dum before they were wiped out, are capable of concealing the presence of a Dawi from the scrying of enemy magic. From Valka's testimony it wasn't perfect, but it made survival possible instead of impossible. That, and given the state of their resources, is a testament to their skill and canniness. A bit too quick to put to use in any other circumstance, uncovering the secrets of this Rune shouldn't be too difficult. Your epiphany after seeing the Rune of Valaya has given you ideas.
