On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

Be me, sitting in bath

"...Rune generated simulated environments"

Sitting up in bath

"Rune VR"

Gripping sides of the bath

"Rune AR"

Standing up in bath

"Runes for entering minds!"

Jumping out of bath

"Using Runes to Dreamshare!"

Running for phone

"RUNIC ARRAYS!!!"

...Ahem. Let me be more detailed about this.

First, the most important; can we get around the 3 rune limit by linking runic arrays together? Like we have right now with set "bonus";
depending on which pieces of equipment you wear or hold. Barak Azamar for rock and stone, Zharrgal for metal and flame, and lastly Skarrenbakraz for lightning and wind.
All three items, with different rune sets, working together to create a single affect? DO YOU KNOW WHAT WE COULD PULL OFF IF WE COULD REPLICATE THIS??? IN SHORT; EVERYTHING!!!!!!

Okay, moving on; using rune arrays to mimic environments. Runes creating illusions of like, trees. Runes making noises of water and animals. Runes making the air flow like natural wind. Wow.

Rune VR: Pretty "basic", just need to generate an environment... wait no it is complicated. Nevermind.

Rune AR: Imagine if a warrior had a helm that identified an oncoming enemy. How long until they collide with the shield wall. Possible weak points in armour. Tagging important targets. Ranged units as well, for tagging targets and predicting trajectory.

Runes for entering minds & dreamsharing; plays off the Rune of Brotherhood/Kingship and The Mind of Things. Could be used for interrogations, talking over long distances... a lot.

Not sure how much of this has been discussed before, haven't read back. Thoughts though?

Time for random encounter!

Vragni because his whole deal is what our runic college is all about. Brynna because we haven't really interacted with her in a real sense yet. Random because mystery box.

@soulcake had an idea for a rune, cookie for anyone who can guess what inspired it. I'll say this, it's not fantasy, and it's very recent.

Master Rune of the Barred Gate (Talisman): No Dwarf can tolerate another mucking about in their mind, but people--sorcerers, wizards, daemons and others--keep trying. This rune, mighty forged, makes it somewhere from very, very difficult to impossible for any mortal scale--daemons, necromancer, etc.--entity to drag their sticky fingers through the bearer's mind or control them. Unfriendly gods, of course, may be a different story. It proliferated after the Great Incursion, after various encounters with daemons shamed many.

I suppose talking to Vragni before we stunt on him works. I'd prefer to wait until after we volcano our way through the fimir to meet him to really distill that onesided rage but I suppose this way it's a double flex.

Kind of sad we didn't take the cutting option from that one ancestor god. I bet we could have had Star Wars shatterpoint-like abilities.

It's enough to make you wonder how much stuff we've done prior would have given Akazit progress if we had just had sufficient understanding, no?

Also just have to say that I am very happy that we have acquired SW Shatterpoint/ Nasu Mystic Eyes of Death Perception lite here. This is going to get FUN.

So, anyone considering what to do after the war seeing how far we pushed our research so far?

Mind of Things to finish it off.
Movement of Things because I really WANT that deep magic rune.
Akasit due to the fact that it seems to tie into the two above.

After that we shall see.

After the war we basically have 5 turns mininum before the runiversity is ready. I'd like to have like 7-10 overflow on it because the thing is supposed to be a one of a kind wonder and I really want to overdo it in every way. Other than that, pure research ideally with akazit being ready to showcase around the same time. Also with the t5 rune metal used for something as well as a better deep magic rune.

I wonder if we could make a massive Rune of Siphoning at the Anvil then lug it back to install in the workshop?

He explicitly despises Snorri's radical nature. He would very much not be on board with anything past the forum, really.
That just makes it better really. Because we'd either get his complaints out early and see if there are fixes available, or we can have him join in on the effort to "ensure things are done properly", or at least give us a way to address (and be addressed by) any complains from the Conservative faction.

So, a somewhat Dawi thought;
It almost feels wrong to try to reverse-engineer Thungni's MRune. A normal MRune, sure. MRune of one of the other Ancestors? Maybe. Thungi's? No. If he wanted Snorri to know, he'd have told him directly.
Then again, maybe he gave it to Snerra knowing full well that Snorri would do his best to reverse engineer it, and actively planned for that. Iunno.
But the thought that it's almost to... sacred(?) to to to figure out? Yeah, that's there.

Snorri does reckon reverse engineering is a proof of worthiness test, and despite his lack of info hes fairly certain about that at least. Also there's the fact that Snerra has gifted it to a Runesmith and made no mention of not reverse-engineering it. Its a sort of implicit understanding type situation.

Every time, we murder some research, 3 more new things take it's place, someone really needs to make a really old Snorri Omake where he wonders from place to place looking for something to do because he ran out of research he can currently do

We started the next level of language studies so we should probably finish that, especially since Yorri is studying with Snorri, and I'm not sure what he'll do if we take too long to continue the classes. Possibly just finish them on his own so that he can travel more?

It seems like completing Material Research gives progress to our other research items so I'd like to study the Merwym and the Frostbird's Feather whenever we can in order to check items off our to-do list while also progressing our other research.

Studying the Waystones in hopes of finding a way to fix them seems pretty important. I just don't know when the thread will be willing to go for it, considering how much everyone seems to want to do Akazit and the Rune Metal options.

Finally, I feel bad that we're having the hold and Karstah work on our college, but Snorri's not putting any actions in. I'd like to get started on that soon.
