On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

[x] Zharrvengryn: Ties
[x] Aid: All that you are able to.

That was epic and we're getting closer and closer to meme levels of magical shutdown.

We already know the rune for fire do this would be giving us more understanding of fire making the rune we know better.
It's an assumption without basis that its going to give us any kind of instant understanding of any of these concepts, instead of inspiration to seek these out which once explored give us something.

I hope that we crit on the rebuilding roll.
Just to screw with perceptions. We also seem especially optimized for quickly getting projects done. And prosthetics would be quickly get adopted by the refugees who no doubt have a large amount of disabled Dawi.

How is Gazul alive? Didn't he get a permanent mortal wound?

Lastly. If we do rebuild this place, would we gain a reputation for handing away the right to rule?

I'm starting to think we should make something to stop us from being pinballed again and again.

Admittedly, it worked perfectly well against Hogrimm! But Bloodthirster-sized enemies can still Fastball Special us.

It'd have to be a Talisman of some sort though, and we kind of have been looking into some kind of MTraversal talisman instead of some kind of "stand your ground" thing...
The prophet stares at you hatefully but wearily, his arm a ruin and his staff looking more and more like a warped piece of metal with every blow from Zharrgal.

He is tense.

You are serenely furious.

He is apoplectically angry, enough that he's slowly become sloppier and sloppier.

You are so furious that your mind is working with crystal clear clarity.
Hmm. Clear anger. Crystal clear. Focus, and purpose...
"More than you think," you reply.

Nothing more needs to be said. It ends just as it began, and with a single singing blow from your hammer, Hogrimm Ironhand will no longer peddle his foulness among your people.

Quicker and far more mercifully than he deserves, a part of you seethes out.

The rest simply conjures the memories of the past few hours. Just where the spite of your people could go if left unchecked by propriety and common decency.

Vengeance was had, and that was enough. You'll make no show of it.
Vengeance and duty. There is a wrong to be righted; if so, right it, and do not overdo it. The proper amount. Again, focus and purpose and clarity...

These two quotes. They make me inspired for an Axe of sorts.

One that channels the so-angry-but-crystal-clear and "vengeance was had, and that was enough" parts of this.

That... that sort of idea. That type of concept.

A grim sort of duty.

Of putting an end to an enemy. Of Vengeance-dealt being enough to satisfy a Grudge. And of the judgment and... patience of it.

A sense of finality. There is a heavy burden to bear, and a duty that you must complete. So, complete it with your full commitment and focus. And then let it be done, finished and done, once the deed is complete.

Vengeance Ends/Ending/Finishes Grudges. Something like that.
In those few fleeting moments, just before the light blinds you, you gaze upon Zharrvengryn and the Runes upon its surface. They are beyond you, and likely forever shall be in your humble opinion, but you were not the man who stared upon Grimnir's armour in befuddlement. You are wiser, older, more hardened, or perhaps Gazul has simply deigned to set up events so that you receive some fragment of insight. Regardless, before your vision is turned to nothing but whiteness, you see-

[ ] Zharrvengryn: Cutting
Cutting. Definitely cutting.

I want to put this on an Axe. And I definitely want to put it on a Sword, too.

Gazul's sword bears the rune-sentence of "a fire that cuts ties." And I think that the concept of cutting is important here, because of what is being cut.

And because it'll be a great addition to any Sword we make for the Order of the Watchers, or Axe we make for Snorri.

So, hence... Cutting.

I'm thinking of putting it together on the Axe, to combine with Runes of Vengeance and Grudge perhaps. Or maybe the Master Rune of Grimnir -- because certainly Grimnir and his Master Rune in weapon form has that aspect and themes of wrath, and being so focused on cutting down the enemy like that.

Master Rune of Grimnir. Rune of Cutting. Rune of... Fire or Vengeance or Grudges, perhaps.

Yes.

Our best work is done when we connect it to personal values/beliefs Snorri has, or personal experiences he has had. Or emotional states and revelations he has had.

And so, I think the quotes I quoted here, with that emotional state and grim finality and "let it be done" and idea of 'vengeance that is done, and then is satisfied, because you have seen where going too far gets you.'
but before the Queen of Karag Dum can retaliate her would-be attacker's head is removed from his shoulders by the glowing hot edge of a longsword. The now headless corpse falls to the earth numbly, and Valka realizes that a trail of bodies has cut through the enemy to reach her position, the cause now standing before her.

Clad in a cloak as dark as any tunnel, an incredibly long coal-black, grey streaked, beard and molten red eyes stare out from under the shadows of a voluminous hood.
(Out of order, but I wanted the axe quotes and words to be at the top, so.)

And this makes me want to make a cloak inspired by Gazul, too.

Because Gazul is even sneakier than Snorri, apparently. And being able to take two things from Gazul -- the sense of duty and finality, and the skill to go anywhere unseen -- would be good.
Perhaps fittingly with Gazul participating in the work, it takes on an air of finality and solemnity.
No grand battles await you, no more titanic struggles, and for many, even Dwalin, it is a welcome reprieve given what has occurred.
The eldest among you recall the oldest stories, of the dark days of Inter Clan warfare in the time before the Ancestors. None alive save the Ancestors themselves were even born during that time, let alone experienced it. The closest would be those from Uzkulak and Valka's own forces. The…

...the work done in those days is one you will take to your grave forever. If the easterners suffered a situation even a fraction as terrible as what occurred in those halls…

Well, It is perhaps the only time you are truly glad a part of your people's past was consigned to the dust of bygone ages.

With all of that darkness seen to, the Throng goes through the arduous task of fulfilling Igna's oath. Under the exacting gaze of Gazul, every last structure, wall and brick of the fallen Karak is destroyed or ground to dust.
Mm.

Grim work. Necessary work. Sorrowful work.
A process made far easier with liberal use of Zharrgal to collapse entire galleries by destabilizing the surrounding stone with a few well-placed gouts of motel rock. Though the majority of the work still comprised Dwarfs working over their frustrations and traumas upon the unfeeling stone. Here too your Hearth Guard distinguish themselves, the advice and presence of their elders doing much to alleviate the condition many of the beardlings suffer.
"Hey, look, I made a bridge. It only took me like, what? Ten seconds? Eleven, tops."

(How I picture it going with one of the Hearth Guard. The Engineer just collapses a part of the place. Bam.)
- Other Standing stuff to be added after I reformat the page >_>
Hm. Probably an entry for Queen Valka and Karag Dum-refugees. Although to be fair, that's probably best done next update; after we make the "Maximum effort, or no?" vote. As that'll effect how much they like and respect us.

Also we are totally making toys for all the kids of Karag Dum. The Gift-Giver will give an entire Hold's worth of toys again. Let us have something warm and joyful come at the tail-end of these events; another heart-warming myth, after all these heartaches.

- +5 Wardstones: Runic items carried by the survivors of Dum to shield them from prying eyes. Inscribed with the Rune that allowed them to serve their purpose as well as a Rune to preserve them for as long as possible. [Rune of ???, Rune of Preservation]
Again, if we could look into that, then... ... Actually, that would be cool not just on a cloak. It would be cool on a Warmachine, too. Although it's probably a Talisman Rune; those are the sorts more likely to be on infrastructure, I think. Still. Very cool.

Also, hah, that Dwalin Standing bonus will be useful for researching the Glittering Beacon rune combo. Neat.

And to think we still have the rune trade coming up before we even get to the end to turn.

@soulcake will this voting end then that begins? Because I personally have no issue just editing it into my vote post if it means less wait to see the new goodies.

[x] Zharrvengryn: Fire
[x] Aid: All that you are able to.

Definitely these two choices. I would have liked the Cutting more, but Fire has a lot more potential that just plain old slice and dice.

[x] Zharrvengryn: Ties
[x] Aid: All that you are able to.

While I'm sure we all have our own opinion on the first option I think we can all agree on the second they've suffered enough and it's in character of snorri to do his utmost to help them.

I will laugh if they decide the new hold is gonna be as far from Dum as possible aka down by Zorn and all the aid gets to take the scenic route through the entire dwarf empire to get there. Course Hashut's dudes would probably be happy with that too since Zorns a powder keg as well.

That's so... limited. Like, okay so we made something that cuts better. What else can it do? Yes it's conceptual, but cutting is a lot harder to finagle into different arrays and options.

I favor Fire but I don't think Cutting is plain.

Take the Blade of Realities as a more extreme example

THE BLADE OF REALITIES 100 points Magic Weapon
Brought to the world by the Old Ones, this weapon shimmers with unnaturalpower. Legends carved on ancient stone claim the blade exists on every plan of reality simultaneously, and that it's edge can sever a creature's soul. No earthly force can stop this deadly blade —it
penetrates granite and steel as easily as it slices througfiflesh and bone.
No armour or ward saves can be taken against Wounds caused by the Blade of Realities.

Or the Divining Blades from 40k.
Divining Blades
Weapons of ancient provenance, forged from the unimaginably rare Nightmare Steel, the Divining Blades are relics far beyond mortal ken to comprehend.
I t is said of such weapons that they are keen enough to cut unreality and
reality both when swung; that their subtle edges, which lie beyond both of
those dimensions, can never be blunted; and that they have an oscillating frequency in synchronicity with the turning of the universe itself. Charged with untold ethereal power, a Divining Blade can locate and sever the true essence
of a Daemon within the Warp if it passes into proximity with its edge, and
thus these artefacts inspire a primal terror in Daemons which behold them.

So... functionally Soul needs a method to describe a mechanical failure in the text of the update. So to me making something for the specific purpose of restricting those available options is problematic on a writing level, and also has some issues on the mechanical layer given how things work down there.
