Asked for clarification in the Discord regarding the "must take national actions" thing. I got this from Arathnorn:

If you try to assign them to something other than new york, it'll run without them, but they can still go on the quest. They'll just be forced not to help with anything else next turn.

I take it to mean that the components of the New York team must absolutely be assigned to national actions, with said national actions being rolled without their bonus if assigned to something outside of NY proper.
Who might be in New York for Janna to call on? Select up to three heroes to send on this quest. Be warned: Any hero sent on this quest must perform a National Action next turn taking place in New York City. If they don't, then whatever action they do take either runs without them or, if it's a personal action, is wasted.
My impression is that

  • If we assign them a national action in NY then do the action and help out Janna while they are in New York.
  • If we assign them a national action outside NY then they take a vacation in NY or something and DEI employees attempt to complete the action without their bonus. This would be a bad idea normally but is especially bad with the probabilinator in play.
  • If we assign them a personal action then the action is interrupted or replaced by shenanigans in New York and has no effect.
So we can either assign them to national actions in NY or personals that don't matter.

Hm. Fair. OK, Hego's not a good contender for Stewardship alone, then, though it sure sounds like Janna could use the muscle and Hego the opportunity to shine in a conspicuous capacity. Especially against a gargoyle army, because while gargoyles are inhumanly strong and tough and all that... so is he. Gargoyles do not, on the whole, as I understand it, use guns and shit.

If you're going by muscle then Lizzy provides more bonus to Martial, besides her 30 of Learning which could be useful. Like we didn't think in the wasteland we'd need Occult and the first thing we got was an Occult check that stripped us from our PMC bonus, the same thing could happen here.

You guys realize the entire reason Hego sucks is because we never actually let him go out and do things? Him doing so bad in the wasteland is entirely our fault because we won't stop babying him and trying to let others shine instead. We need to actually let him do things or he will always suck.

Where we should have taken him? In Hawaii so he blows our cover? Into magic temple so he becomes affected by some curse? There is no reason to take guy on unsuited jobs, just because he have influential relative. Simple putting him on random Quests without dealing with his issues first or very carefully selecting them will end just like it ended with Max and Vanessa.

Also remember, that he usually rolls awfully . Janna would not ask for help if it was walk in the park, and regardless of his touchiness with magic he can be turned to stone, into dog (from Demona ring) and so on, possibilities truly endless.

In regards to PR reasons, it is still unknown, how it all end, and if we will want our name openly associated with New York disaster. Also I don't want Doom PR threats to decide our actions for us, especially totally unrelated to him.

Finally if it's for attempt on something like superheroic action write-in, it's unlikely for it to have DC less than supervillian one, so it's approximately DC 85 which is not doable with Hego martial on crit fail turn.

Yeah, but WE only babyed him in the First place, because WE got told by QM that him getting Hurt would result in US getting plasma-deepfried by Shego. Coupled with his very unwieldy "Glory Daze" starting trait WE got too scared to use him at all.

So its only mostly our fault

I want to point out that if hego gets hurt on an errand we send him on hego will murder us

Is it objective truth? Like I still would not have put him on most of our previous Quests, for mostly unrelated to Shego reasons.

Somehow he is hero out of his time even more than Khan, and there is not so many suitable jobs for him. We found more uses for his food manager expertise for god's sake. Maybe it's better to put him on teaching Dennis proper food management. After Sandwich disaster it's clear that Dennis need overseer.

The reason for this after reading the arguments is we have a flexible squad covering all the bases whilst taking only a minor malus to diplomacy. Tom and Lizzy both have decent Martial. We are understandably stuffed with Occult. Janna and Kitsune cover intrigue. Kitsune has good diplomacy and Lizzy has good learning and decent stewardship. And we expect Occult and intrigue to be necessary, with some Martial. Stewardship is unlikely but best to have some. And Learning could well be almost useful as Occult.

Gentle reminder: Kitsune is deadly afraid of Puck, as established in The Demon You Know Warding The Henhouse.

"It is… beautiful."
"Beautiful indeed," said Puck from atop a cloud, stars of power dancing across his hands.
The terror shot through her soul again in an instant. Bow! Hide! Run! Do anything! But this time it was tempered by anger. Here and now, her work complete, the bonds of protection even she did not fully comprehend wrapped around her.
She allowed the calm of her face to fade away. Teeth became fangs. Tails whipped in a sudden wind. Bonds of black shadow wrapped the Puck in coiled darkness.
Her body shifted beneath her, all the illusions falling away. It wouldn't do, after all, to hide her face from such a prestigious guest. She smiled, and made to bow, only for her legs to give way. Only then did she feel the drain of the working, the trembling of her body.
Ah, she thought, as the world faded to nothing. How silly of her.
Janna dismissed the seeming, and the vision of the trickster vanished in an instant. "Told you she had a cool transformation form. And some history with that guy."

Sending her to a New York mystical hot zone is not going to go over well with her. At all.

on top of these its probably possible to get xanatos support depending on dice rolls and our actions. Unless their too far away dealing with problems at the same time.

Hey guys, @Murazor brings up a good point, Kitsune is shown to be afraid of Puck (I think?) as evidenced in Warding the Henhouse.

Ok do we have a replacement for Kitsune who hasn't been mentioned in the stories. Has Mirage been? Replaces Diplo and intrigue. Lose some occult. Also helps with least likely call though stewardship.

Yeah, there is bad history there.

She also more or less explicitly dislikes open fighting, as mentioned in her character sheet.

Martial: 17 (Kitsune can fight with her true form and bombs, but prefers not to.)

Now, Kitsune is somewhat fond of Janna and that may offset her dislike of fighting, but I am just about sure that it will not offset sending her to a hot zone in a place she knows to be the stomping grounds of somebody who apparently terrifies her.

Worst case scenario here is that she runs into Puck and Kitsune attacks him, ruining our relationship with Xanatos, while Kitsune suffers a major loyalty malus and simply decides to walk away. Considering the AU thing with Janna and the Toffee deal, I think that sending her in a collision course with Owen may mean simply losing Kitsune.

Less negative scenarios exist, but I don't see this leading anywhere but a major loyalty impact with Kitsune at the very least.

It strikes me as a very bad choice.

To be fair, this vote isn't "who do we send to the battle." It's, "who was retroactively already in New York at the time of the battle." The distinction there makes any fighting that coincidentally happens there defensive in nature, rather than Doof intentionally sending certain people to New York to fight.

I feel like you guys are making a bit too big a deal about Kitsune's reaction to Illusion-Puck. Yes, she was scared, but more in a "this person could kill me in a blink of the eye' sense rather than anything personal. And besides, the end result of that scene was her deciding "Screw running away, I'll hit you with everything I've got!"

The rewards listed for that interlude even directly point that out:

Kitsune is now motivated, and is more willing to stick out her own skin

That experience made her braver, not more cowardly.

I believe that the path towards furthering her character development is putting her in more situations like that, where she genuinely has to buckle down and go Plus Ultra instead of just running away like she's always done. And the best way to do so is having her fight for something she cares about, which right now is Janna. So in the service of hopefully furthering her character development, I support her going on this trip.

Sending Kitsune is a very bad mistake despite her many advantages.

So if ends up between Ghengis and Hego Ghengis it is.
