Ok, well I'm trying to throw together an action plan, here's what I got so far: (also, this is my first time trying to put together an action plan, so criticisms/edits are more than welcome)

[X] Action plan: a pencil with no eraser
  • Meet with Ino.
    • Ask about Hinata
      • What is she like?
      • Anything we need to know if we are meeting with her?
    • Ask how Ino is doing? (I don't want it to seem like we are only meeting her because we want info on Hinata)
  • Discuss with Mari and Keiko
    • What can we do to prepare for anything the Hyuuga's have planned?
      • What might they have planned?
    • How will Asuma react?
    • Discuss how and what to talk about with Hinata
      • Try to figure out how the Hyuuga will react to us moving against the Hagoromo?
      • Is there some way to improve relations between the Gouketsu and the Hyuuga?
    • Ask Mari to look into the Hyuuga and Uchiha deal
      • Are the Hyuuga still honoring it?
      • Is there any way we can better our relations with the Uchiha?
  • Meet with Hinata
    • Do what we decided upon with Mari and Keiko
  • Talk to Mari
    • Tone: compassionate, gentle
    • What's your Uplift?
      • Hazou has civilian/clanless
      • Keiko has her pursuit of equal rights for "nontraditional" relationships
      • Kagome is taking an interest in education, in his own way
        • Conditional: if this seems to make Mari unsure about her place in our lives, comfort and reassure her accordingly.
      • What's your Personal Uplift?
        • Conditional: If Mari is agreeable to the topic, but also unsure of her personal Uplift goals, gently suggest gender equality or a reformation of how Leaf handles sexual assault crimes as possible Uplift pursuits
      • Regardless of her answer, gently remind her that she has the full support and aid of Team Uplift to call upon --personal, emotional, military, and financial.

(Thank you @RandomOTP for the Mari part at the end)

Is that too long of a plan? Would it be best to save the Mari uplift stuff for another update? Anything else we need to talk to Ino/Mari/Keiko/Hinata about?

Again, this was just a few ideas I threw together from what I've seen other people discussing, and is very open to edits, so please give feedback or suggestions
Generally my problem with this plan is that it does not have any actionable things in it. It's entirely meetings about information we don't need to get. Our plan should be mostly focused on burning the Hags down and protecting our own people

Hinata has been in this game for far longer than us; her social scores are gonna beat ours. Why, therefore, is the plan of attack to suss her out speaking with her?
Ah, that's fair. Any suggestions then? Maybe instead of talking to Hinata, we have someone investigate the Hyuuga's financial situation, if it's possible, and so we can see if they have the money/resources to give a loan to the Hagoromo. And then we still talk to Mari and Keiko but focus more on how the Hyuuga will possibly retaliate and how we can prepare for that instead of what we should say to Hinata? Idk, just an alternative thought if people really don't want to talk to Hinata.

Anywho, feel free to implement or ignore my advice as you want, or even take it and alter it to your own wants. Believe me, I know that my suggestions aren't great for word count (or even all that great to begin with) so I won't be offended.
😁 thank you for the suggestions! I will probably implement some of them here in a minute. edit: done.

I understand what you're saying but I do think it's necessary to try and figure out how the Hyuuga will react so we can be as prepared as possible for whatever happens in the fallout.

I think they're just worried about the Hags doing something stupid and desperate, like invading our clan compound at night (Kagome's Defenses) instead of just admitting they bit off more than they could chew.
I mean if they attempt a night raid against a clan known to throw seals around like it's nothing, with a a seal master who was so deep undercover in Mist that his mind broke before his loyalty to Leaf*... I don't think people would be super mad and try to get Hazo for treason again.

*Has public knowledge of who Kagome is changed since the announcement? Also could someone link me to that post please.

I mean... I'm not saying that the Hagoromo should... but it would definitely be great to see.

I... think it's in the chapter where Jiraiya and Hiruzen welcomed Team Uplift into the Leaf?

Seconded.

I think it's mostly to gauge it they're going to be a pain in our neck after the Hagoromo are ash irrelevant. Also, figuring out why they sicced the Hag on us at all... that was rather rude and unwarranted, especially since it seems that Hinata was already trying to convince Yuno to join the Hyuuga in private.

Some suggestions, in blue? Mentioned the data that we might have on the Hyuuga and that we should use it as a resource. Mentioned using the IN to practice possible conversational topics. Swapped the order of the Mari talk and the Hinata talk, since we'd be in the same room with Mari during the dry runs anyway. I'd rather go into specifics of possible conversational topics that Hinata might bring up (save some work for the QMs), but we-the-hivemind don't actually know all that much about Hinata, whereas Hazou-the-character knows Hinata's reputation and has several info-dumps on her.

Anywho, feel free to implement or ignore my advice as you want, or even take it and alter it to your own wants. Believe me, I know that my suggestions aren't great for word count (or even all that great to begin with) so I won't be offended.

edit:

I think they're just worried about the Hags doing something stupid and desperate, like invading our clan compound at night (Kagome's Defenses) instead of just admitting they bit off more than they could chew. I'm still down for turning them into political and financial nobodies, since we're doing our best not to hurt the affiliates.

"Figuring out?" She did it for the same reason Hiashi did. The clan which has Yuno controls an important link to a sudden new power in a strategically important territory on the eve of a world war. The woman isn't evil, cruel, or traitorous, but she is ruthless and takes her duty to further her clan's interests seriously. She outright explained it after the 4th event climax. Hence why I kept yelling that we should preemptively knock her out of the tournament to reduce Hiashi's chance at the hat instead of letting her smack Noburi into a ragdoll in the first round.

Ok here goes.

[x] Action Plan: Consider the Following Resonance Structure

Meet with Ami and Keiko. Max OPSEC ( let Ami drive on this facet of the meeting, stress that "Max OPSEC" is not to be taken hyperbolically).
  • Hagoromo stuff
    • We wanted to challenge them to a duel (their three clan members vs. OG Uplift, failing that, our pick of 3 non-Mari Gouketsu clan members) with some stakes (we win: any debt from us to them is null and void, and they owe us 2 mil ryo a month. they win: we owe them 4 mil total ryo a month).
      • We want to do the fight thing once our other plots are locked in and the results are inevitable, though.
    • "Dueling" is outlawed, but is there any nonsense in Leaf legalese that allows this in some form?
      • Surely there is some way to arrange this? Even if its informally treated as a "spar" or "competition" with corresponding stakes. Perhaps as a "bet" legally speaking?
  • Pick up somewhat from where you left off with Ami last time.
    • Clear with Keiko beforehand.
      • Generally let her chime in with any thoughts she may or may not have on any aspect of this, her input is clearly valuable and we treasure it.
    • Our terminal goals should be pretty clear: Uplift for all, better social equality for all, stop general crappy stuff from being a consistent theme in this world, figure out resurrection techniques, etc. With a side dish of protecting the family in the meantime.
      • Instrumental goals: become uber powerful sealmaster, maybe look into technique hacking, bio sealing, and mednin stuff. Look into lost sources of lore and/or epic power, such as: Whirlpool, sealing ritual arrays, source of Chakra, summoning scrolls, various mysteries obviously present in the world, the Seventh Path, etc.
      • Summoning scrolls: done-ish. We have some serious knowledge about Sealing stuff that we didn't have before. Out-stuff isn't too problematic, whatever.
    • Your goals are still somewhat obtuse besides "protect Keiko" (which we can get behind).
      • You've indicated that you find our goals acceptable. We find at least one of your goals to be something that we would support, and estimate that at least some of them are ones we'd like to actively work towards.
      • We would like to enter into a mutually beneficial relationship with the Ami.
      • If she accepts, offer hug.
    • If she accepts your offer, talk shop about Hazou's Master Plan after implementing additional (and hopefully extraneous, but you never know!) OPSEC measures.
      • Be roundabout, don't refer explicitly to shadow clone, just tell her something like "Definitive plan to vastly increase power of all involved. Keiko can confirm the existence and viability. Not trying to get killboxed again, so can tell you more as situation develops, if it does."
      • If she can get into Leaf, we'll cut her in if she wants, modulo some reasonable conditions we'll get into weeds on at that time.

Okay, how about this:

(1)Economically- we ruin them and have the Yaks bail them out by proxy as we have done.

(2)Elsewhere- we shit through their teeth and make a big show of purposefully not shtiting through their teeth too hard/publicly saying "I am a Good Guy and am willing to stop shitting through your teeth and reverse any harm inflicted upon you, if you are willing to play ball with me instead of giving dumb fucking ultimatums."

(3) We neutralize about 95% of any obligation they have incurred directly to us,pursuant to an agreement that they will stop being jerks.

Leaf as a whole gets to see us go for the kill and then stop and be a nice merciful guy. We still have removed the Hagoromo as meaningful pieces on the political gameboard, and can just control them by proxy through the Yakuza[1], who they owe a literal fuckton of money, and the Nara [2] who are also involved.

The political snakepit will be too wary to fuck with us for a while, and we can move on with our five year plan[3] after earning a nice chunk of XP for destroying the bigots in an interesting way.

[1] This will require us to build a stronger professional relationship with the Yakuza. Win? We should be doing this anyway.

[2] Nobody is going to be gunning for the Nara. What fool?

[3] Reminder: the goal is to make all of this internal politics crap irrelevant in a few years in character anyway.

I think the hug might be a bit much, unless Ami instigates it. And I'm not so sure on the "duel," but it's quasi-legal, and Clans get away with "quasi-legal" all the time (it's mentioned that the Hyuuga "totally don't own" several businesses and stores, for example). Besides, putting them 2 mil in our debt right before their profits tank? Awesome.

basically what @RandomOTP said ^_^

edit: people have convinced me that talking to ami about FOOM is not a good idea.

To be clear, thats just the monthly payment. I don't remember the full calculation of the Hag debt.

And this is the stuff that I fully expect to publicly waive if they agree to be good sports and do solid stuff.

Anywho, yeah.

Can we add to the Ami section a 'finagle the conversation so that we signal for Ami to reveal that she knows the true benefit of SC instead of revealing it to her ourselves' bit? Would give a nice padding of 'no we didn't share the secrets of Shadow Clone with Ami' fae-honesty.

If she accepts your offer, explain Shadow Clone FOOM after implementing additional (and hopefully extraneous, but you never know!) OPSEC measures.
  • If she can get into Leaf, and get the Shadow Clone technique, we'll cut her in if she wants.
Can we commit slightly less treason? It has been repeatedly stressed to Hazo that SC is an extremely important secret, and that the consequences of leaking it will be dire.

'finagle the conversation so that we signal for Ami to reveal that she knows the true benefit of SC instead of revealing it to her ourselves'
I can do this probably. Still waking up. Uhhh:

AMI: Well who says I know the thing???

HAZOU: Keiko please tell her.

KEIKO: Ami, Hazou knows you know the thing.

AMI: Okay, I do know the thing.

HAZOU: Ami pls.

AMI: Okay okay, so here's the deal...

Sure, how would you prefer this to be phrased?

Didn't Ami once say that the SC was an absolutely monstrous technique? Something about fully autonomous clones that return memories to their caster? Maybe if we allude to that conversation, we can hint that we know something Super Cool(tm) about it? Especially if we say something like "lean on Mari's social training about obscurity?"

Sure, how would you prefer this to be phrased?

"We have a plan that will benefit everyone involved. Leaf Ninja Only."

Secrecy is difficult, expensive, and worth it. Especially now, because we are on thin ice. We have recently been only barely cleared of treason, and are going to war with a literally sacred institution.

EDIT:

To avoid false pretenses, I am unlikely to vote for the plan in either case, as I don't particularly like or trust Ami.

I suppose I could do this? It seems very vague and doesn't actually do much to tell her about the thing.

I could probably go with "We have a clever plan that will dramatically increase the abilities of all involved, but Leaf Ninja Only. Not trying to revisit the killbox soon." or something.

No, I mean, don't just promise to unconditionally cut her in, we had a whole list of conditions in previous discussions aaaaaaaaaa
So will "We'll cut you in pending some misc. conditions that we can clarify when we get to that point." work for you?

It's better. And yes, obviously she already knows or would figure it out instantly if she doesn't.

I like your plan MMKII, still not sure I'm comfortable telling Ami about FOOM yet though, especially near-unconditionally. Kinda with Maddie on this one.
I also like the other plan, I think figuring out what moves the Hyuga are going to make in response is important. However, I don't really think we need the Mari conversation right now for reasons I've already expressed in this thread.
I'm gonna hold off on voting for now.
