Your will shall be done.
Hm. Quite true.So...
Food for evil thought.
Xanatos has the search for immortality for himself and his family as one of his main motivations.
His initial association with Demona, relocation of castle Wyvern and resurrection of the clan? It was about that.
The City of Stone fiasco? That.
The Cauldron of Life? That.
Trying to capture Anubis to stop death? That.
The attempts to capture Coyote? That still.
Frankly, the guy getting a lifetime of service from Puck-as-Owen rather than immortality was the lone instance in which he decided to give the opportunity a pass.
Toffee has some really, really excellent biological immortality of the very kind that Xanatos is highly interested in.
If/when things go hot in the conflict with Toffee, it is likely that the opportunity to access Toffee's genetics would become highly relevant to David's position in such a conflict between fellow Kings.
If I remember rightly, Goofy has a very slightly higher chance of succeeding, but also a 5% as opposed to 1% chance of scoring a critical failure. I'm getting this from someone else, and could be mistaken- but if, for example, Goofy had a 70% chance of succeeding and a 5% chance of critical failure, while Technor had a 69% chance of succeeding and a 1% chance of critical failure, I'd probably rather go with Technor. Especially since making Goofy happy with us might well have useful long-term ramifications.Only quibble is I'd personally rather have Dad, Goofy monitor Princess Java but I don't think that's a big enough dealbreaker. Doesn't Goofy have a bonus of +1 over Technor after loyalty though?
These are all good arguments. If someone could re-run the numbers for me to satisfy me that I'm not putting us at very bad risk... Well, I could reconsider.@Simon_Jester While I can agree with most of your reasoning and choices in contrast to my own plan outline, I really think that we want Goofy as the influence for Princess CJ's diplomatic side. TECHNOR is analytical and can pick apart social cues and capitalize on them, but his megalomania can crop up at the worst times. Goofy is humble, caring, sincere, honest, and generally a good listener. All excellent traits in a diplomat. On top of that, Princess CJ is currently kind of childlike in mentality, even if she's not a true Turing-capable AI. Goofy's parental instincts will respond to that, and we have living proof that he knows how to raise good kids. So I think he'd be more patient with CJ as well as humoring her and explaining things to her as he goes. Whereas TECHNOR is more likely to either do a data dump or just have her look stuff up.
I'm with Gleeman here; when you want the dancing monkey on your side, having a mutual understanding with the organ grinder is only going to help.I am not saying that we absolutely NEED Xanatos´ help to get the USA off our back regardless of whether we wanna maintain status quo or actually have our autonomy recognized - I am simply saying that being in the good graces of the guy ACTUALLY in charge (instead of NOMINALLY like the POTUS) would help us quite a bit in getting things our way without official interference.
Simple pragmatism, you know?
Look, I sympathize, but when a plan is formatted poorly it is actively harder for me to consider the merits. I can't analyze what I can't read, and these plans are something like thirty lines long. Some amount of sane formatting is just a practical necessity at this point. The idea that this is too illegible to be considered a legitimate plan cheeses me off a little. A plan should be considered on its merits, darn it!
Sorry, but that's a hard 'no.'@Simon_Jester I'd really recommend exposing Hawk over feeding him false trails. There's always the chance he gets wise to the false trails eventually and the action doesn't hurt Doom at all. Compare exposing him that brings down legal trouble with Hawk, furthers our relationship with the government, and casts Doom's reputation into doubt. Personally, I prefer looking into LA Crime for similar reaosns (and Russ's Tooned In/Secret Keeper bonuses), but I'd be willing to vote for your plan if you change false trails to expose...
As already noted, I'm seriously considering this.. See my previous comments. If you've run the numbers on the percentages, let's see 'em. Otherwise I'll need to think a little longer.I'd really recommend putting Goofy on the AI upgrade instead of Technor. Technor is better used trying to recruit a hero unit like Stanley or in seeking out bonuses to our existing hero units. Goofy has a better diplomacy and he seems like a better influence on impressionable young CJ
@clockworkchaos put forward a rundown here. Despite his mauls, Goofy is a better hero for it, there is also an omake. These are all good arguments. If someone could re-run the numbers for me to satisfy me that I'm not putting us at very bad risk... Well, I could reconsider.
I'd like to review those numbers though, if anyone ran them.
I'd like to make my pitch. Even with his Malus, Goofy is the stronger hero for it. Technor is 32+4-10=26 and Goofy 28+4-5=27
I also ran the number's earlier, but that's not the concern. Specifically, the problem with goody is@clockworkchaos put forward a rundown here. Despite his mauls, Goofy is a better hero for it, there is also an omake.
With Technor, we roll 18+26=44 vs 40/80/160 (35/70/140 with XP). This gives us a 1% chance to critically fail, a 64% (74% with XP) chance to Succeed, and a 1% (5% with XP) chance to critically succeedAn Extremely Goofy Statline: Goofy exhibits an odd sort of dichotomy in any task he's assigned to. As such, all critical successes and failures will be far more spectacular. Any roll Goofy is assigned to will automatically have the crit success threshold lowered by 20, but the critical fail threshold increases by 20 as well. If a roll has a critical fail threshold higher than its DC, the DC remains unchanged but any roll below the DC becomes a critical failure.
[grunts]@Simon_Jester
I can live with most of your plan, but I agree we need to get Goofy on diplomacy, not TECHNOR, regardless of penalty, because this is also CJ's introduction to diplomacy.
If you have goofy teach Cj about diplomacy, we get nice, friendly, well adjusted princess who sees 'commoners' as people to help
if we have Technor teach CJ about diplomacy, we have
ALL RIGHT. SO IF YOU WANT TO ACCOMPLISH YOUR EVIL SCHEMES AND GAIN POWER OVER THOSE AROUND YOU, HERE IS HOW TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILES TO...
You may mean "first impression?"Dunno for sure, but since Xanatos seemed rather unmoved by Syndromes plight at the Gala, in the quest he either never decided or quickly reconsidered allying himself with Buddy.
But again, that´s just my first expression
From what I've seen posted, Goofy has...As already noted, I'm seriously considering this.. See my previous comments. If you've run the numbers on the percentages, let's see 'em. Otherwise I'll need to think a little longer.
Never mind, the math was done while I was writing this.
Personally, I favour putting Goofy on Update the City Council with Princess CJ and TECHNOR on recruiting Stanley. The risks will probably be mitigated by people spending exp, and in addition to the arguments against Finish your degree online in the quoted post, I do think the switch is more beneficial overall.
Note that goofy is actually 21 points closer when it comes to critting; he has +1 stat, and lowers the crit threshhold by 20. This just comes at the cost of increasing the crit failure chance too.[X] Plan: Doctor to Doctor
... Imma dirty munchkin. One point more is still a whole point. How many times have we come super close to critting (mostly with L.O.V.E.M.U.F.F.I.N) but failed by one or two points?
