I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

[X] Plan: The Gift GiVALAYAer

For gods sake, people are trying way, way too hard to try to cheese the system even though the QM has repeatedly stated that it's not going to be easy to create more Adamant. Something people seem to have a really hard time getting through their head. And a huge problem with that line of thinking is that it is making a lot of assumption and ignoring logical reasoning like if it was possible to just charge it faster then it would have been brought up. As is it just seems like the smelter is limited to how much power it can harness otherwise nothing would stop us from just say making a rune that converts heat to energy and plopping all Adamant Smelters into a Volcano.

I don't think it's illogical that when told that it's a power charging issue, looking at the T5 Material of Near Infinite Rune Energy and saying "This could increase the rate of production, maybe enough that we could even make several sets of armor with weapons to match during a century."

And the most I've suggested it might give us is if it ended up being the equivalent to five smelters, which should be within Soul's expectations since we were given five Voidstone to start off with.

I am still not keen on using adamantine for Sky King's armor, other than potentially reinforcing griffon weak spots with a couple of adamantine bars' worth of material.
Or using adamantine as the ingredient for runes, if neccessary.
The cost is simply too ruinous. The amount of adamantine it would require would take us centuries to gather.
Probably a bar would be enough to mount the runes on with.

-[X] They have fought our common foes.
-[X] Most importantly, they have saved dwarf lives without any obligation, particularly that of my apprentice on his Journey.
-[X] They need time to be tested yet for any flaws, but they have thus far, been honorable and good neighbors. Good metal, but we know not if its iron or gromril.

Interesting that Grombrindal's seen as a shard of Grungni to other divine beings. Is it because of his blood relationship to him? Or is he himself partially ascended to godhood because of the reverence of his people I wonder? Curious if something like that might happen to us, if we stick around long enough. Could we become something like a shard of Thungni?

That being said, I am still definitely of the opinion that crafting the armour must be a part of a fair transaction, and not be a result of Snorri doing it for free, or by hoping that Sky King will feel indebted and try to repay us in the future.

What that recompense will exactly be, depends on the precise potency and amount of materials we use.

The goodwill of a demigod is probably recompense enough. We don't need upfront physical payment. For example, in the canon Golden Age dwarves collaborated with elven archmages in rune invention. Given that the King of the Skies has some form of esoteric senses, I wonder if it's possible to do something similar with him or his sons. I suspect that they'd have much greater insight into lightning, wind, weather and connected concepts.

I also had to ask whether you took account of everything I was proposing? Note how I'm talking about using storm dragon hide for the bulk of the armor rather than just adamant...

That way it would be entirely made from T4 materials, but materials that would probably be a lot more accessible than adamant (there's lots of hide on a storm dragon, so if you take one down there'd be a meaningful amount of it).

Probably a bar would be enough to mount the runes on with.

Possibly more. I'd probably want to have the same amount of adamant as in a suit of dwarf armour, as we know that can carry the 'weight' of three armour runes.

Practically speaking, armoring the Griffon in Adamant is just not possible.
We have a pending request from our King, and we want to have him Clad in Adamant. We have 2 adamant, and need 1 more, so we'll have enough material to start his suit next turn.
As part of the same request, we will make the Prince's armor, which will likely be Adamant as well. That adds 3 turns before we can start the request, assuming we don't want to split the order in two, and Deliver each piece as soon as it's ready.
The Griffon's armor would require 16 turns after that just to get the material. 3 more turns to make it, so 19 turns to completion. Longer than the quest currently is.
That is, assuming nothing else comes up that we want to make out of Adamant (Such as our own Armor). That is a really long time for a Request, which we could technically finish next turn.
So 50% extra protection in the long run (Adamant strength vs Gromril strength) or 2 centuries without Armor, when demons are about to hit the fan.
There's a line between "Putting in the extra work" and "Not settling for anything less than Perfection", and waiting 2 centuries before finishing is going "Plus Ultra" on crossing that line.

@soulcake Now that we have a standing of 5 with the Radicals, how can we start trading Master Runes with them? I assume it would be 1 AP per Trade? Also, are Combo's on the table for trade as well?
That's is more a marker of where you are. Sort of like the Standing with The Far North. Like there is no distinct entity that claims to be The Far North ya know?
Probably a bar would be enough to mount the runes on with.
Same as a mixed material gronti and a suit of armour. 3 bars worth of Adamant.

There's a line between "Putting in the extra work" and "Not settling for anything less than Perfection", and waiting 2 centuries before finishing is going "Plus Ultra" on crossing that line.
If we're going to go Plus-Ultra on something, my vote is for the Gronti, not the Griffon.

If we're not going Plus-Ultra on the Griffon, I'd like to reserve whatever T5 ingredient we get from it for the Gronti.

If we're not catapulting ourselves into T5 territory for the Griffon Armor, I'd like to firmly establish ourselves in T4 for it instead.

At minimum, this means a successful runic combo.

I say we should figure out a short-list of possibilities and test them to be sure.

Given our Productivity perks, when it comes to Simple or Difficult projects, there is only 1 truly inefficient AP investment level.
The progression goes like this:
0 AP = 0
1 AP = 1 (+1)
2 AP = 3 (+2)
3 AP = 5 (+2)
4 AP = 6 (+1)
5 AP = 8 (+2)

Ranking them by efficiency from most efficient to least looks like this:
3 AP
5 AP
2 AP tied with 4 AP
1 AP

Of note is that it is equally efficient to do a single 5 AP action as it is to do a 3 AP and a 2 AP action. In fact, these two options are the most efficient options possible.

The least efficient thing we could do is five 1 AP actions.
The second least efficient thing is three 1 AP actions and a 2 AP action.

Seeing this vote hurts my soul in the math.

It can be improved like this:

[X] Plan: The Productive Gift Giver
-[X] Helter Smelter: You're sure there's a way to more efficiently produce more Adamant, but as it is you can create at least one more smelter to increase your overall throughput. Having one work while the other recharges for instance. You can at least make one or two more before you start feeling as if you're running afoul of the Rule of Pride. [Cost: 3 actions, 1 Voidstone] Productivity Like No Other will proc. +1 Bar of Adamant every Turn instead of every other Turn. (Will count the turn it was done on) Overflow will only add progress to the next smelter and cost another Voidstone. 2 Actions
-[X] [Difficult] A Higher Standard Pt. 1: You've gazed upon the face of the Ancestors a lot in the past few years, especially when you were making your alchemical flame spitters, and it's inspired you. A banner to rally behind, something that dwarfs will look to and fight all the harder with it at their back. A banner worthy of the hold of Kraka Drakk to be held aloft with pride by an equally worthy standard bearer. [Cost: 1 action] If a rune you want requires special ingredients that you don't have access to I will alert you. 2 Actions
-[X] Master Rune of Grimnir, Rune of Valaya, Rune of Spellbreaking
-[X] [Simple] The Underway: Otrek is in less of a rush to complete this. The Holds of the North are not waylaid by enemies and are aware that with the way the weather's been, an Underway route is the only reliable way for them to stay connected. [Cost: variable normal and apprentice actions] Productivity Like No Other will proc. 2 Progress per action, 1 progress per apprentice action. 21 out of 30 Progress. 7 progress a turn regardless of input. 1 Action

This way, the Action we would have spent on the Banner next turn can be spent on the Dowry instead.
If that change is from 3 to 4 then it's a neutral shift.
If it's from 2 to 3 or from 4 to 5 we actually get an extra action's worth out of it.

Either way, this way the banner completes this turn with + 1 overflow it wouldn't have otherwise gotten.
Hey mate, you'll want to change the Master Rune of Grimnir to Grungni. I made the same mistake.

I also had to ask whether you took account of everything I was proposing? Note how I'm talking about using storm dragon hide for the bulk of the armor rather than just adamant...

Oh, I agree with the dragonhide. Now that Sky King has turned out to be a being that will be an ally, and is a demi-god of sorts, I am not opposed to decking him out in some very high quality armour, with powerful ingredients in the mix, as long as it is not extremely impractical, the way full adamantine is.

Three bars of adamantine the QM mentioned as neccessary for mounting the runes? That's fine by me.

I am just vehementaly opposed to the school of thought that we should eat the cost of the commision for some good will.

I consider that very OOC and metagame-y, as well as setting a bad example for griffon-dwarf relations, as it is very alien to dwarf psyche to behave like that, and it would create burdensome expectations on the side of griffons.

I would not be opposed to it if griffons had the dwarf obsession with fairness engraved in their psyche, thereby ensuring that they would do some impressive feats in order to repay us, but afaik they don't.

I favor this interpretation of our character to Whitebeard.

[X] Plan: The Productive Gift Giver

Why put 1 action into the Dowry this turn, and then 2 actions next turn? Why not just do 3 actions in the same turn to get 2 overflow instead of just 1? It's better to be efficient than to be, well, not efficient.

Pretty sure the reasoning was that people wanted to get another Smelter up and running as soon as possible and being able to finish both the Dowry and the Kings Adamant armor next turn due to shit about to hit the fan and having a long list of research and things we want to do before shit really hits the fan.

Vote's locked, innit? So why are you all casting votes now?

I voted minutes before Soulcake edited their tally post to say the vote had been locked.

Either you'd want to meet the actions needed exactly, in which case spending 2 actions in the same turn gets things done efficiently, (2+1=3 total) or you want to overflow, where doing 3 actions in the same turn gives 2 overflow. (3+2=5 total). Spending 1 actions this turn and 2 more next turn is the worst of both worlds since it results in only 1 overflow. Too late now, though.

Materials used aside, we still need a runic combo for the griffon armor.

As far as I can tell, there are two competing priorities when it comes to the armor: Enhancing his general combat potential, and Defending him from corruption.

I figure we ought to shoot for a combo that does both.

Master Rune of Currents, Rune of Cleaving, Rune of Spellbreaking
Currents for the speed boost and the Cutting Wind association.
Cleaving should harden the armor in preparation to make use of the cutting edges on it without breaking.
Spellbreaking for defence, as well as the potential synergy of the armor cutting through magic as much as more physical things.

Other ideas?
