On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

[X] My Home: The smell of baking stone bread, the cheer of dwarfs working hard and coming together. It is what pushes you forward. Great weapons to arm them, great armour to gird them, great knowledge to teach them, great stories to tell them. The reason no elder will ever tell their juniors why they tolerate their faffing nonsense.

I personally think the rune of impact should be considered to replace fear or dismay, since the rune of impact is all about charging.
Impact + Passage => Once it gets going, nothing will stop it?

[X] My Work: You cannot deny there is a thrill to being a Runelord, to the crafting to the research to the simple act of teaching. There is always more to learn, to explore and discover and pass on. Every experience, every action is always ripe for opportunities to improve and discover. If you could help it, you'd be learning and exploring until the world itself came undone.

One note of interest as well is that there's a Master Rune of Dismay for talismans, but a lesser rune of Dismay for weapons which we could possibly use on a cloak, that has fluff text like this.

Article:
Rune of Dismay
- The uncanny glow of this rune is an awe-inspiring sight, apt to fill foes with dread.

Otrek being awe-inspiring would fit with the power of Trollslayer and his fighting prowess.

Hmm, well, I'm all for dropping Fear for Impact and using the Dismay rune mentioned here for the cloak. It would really fit the motif of a Otrek striking like a Meteor. Fitting into the mythos of Meteorfall combo.

Master Rune of Passage to get around into places he shouldn't be. Rune of Impact to build up his charge and deliver his damage to his enemies with his combat style. And finally the Rune of Dismay to make every enemy fear him.

It might not be a 1:1 match of the normal Meteorfall combo Snorri made, but damn if it isn't going to be something similar.

If the cloak can be counted as a Talisman yeah. Personally I'd stick the Master Rune of Passage on a like amulet or belt buckle because its a Talisman rune with Rune of Might and Rune of Impact, then I'd stick something like Rune of Fortitude + Rune of Impact + Rune of Battle on his cloak since its probably a Banner.

Three runes of impact, and possibly four if we put one on his armor, sounds like a glorious kind of fun stacking.

He's supposed to be a meteor, not a wrecking ball :V

All seriousness though I feel kind of iffy giving someone that many runes split between so many artefacts? Might just be me used to the Time of Woes where Runegear was expensive and rare and you'd be lucky to get 2 fully runes pieces. We're talking about giving a King 3-4 fully runed pieces and it's blowing my mind.

He's a pre-Fall king with an appreciation for runework. He SHOULD be fully runed from helmet to underwear.

Speaking of, I wonder if there's anyone in his family with the Gift? Or if somewhere down the line some strings are pulled and his line marries someone from Snorri's line. Get them the chance to have the Gift passed down.

Could be something fun a couple centuries down the line. Having one of Otrek's descendants as an apprentice for Snorri.

It is a little bit odd yeah.

Hmm focusing back on the commission and items he's actually getting. I think for his cloak, we could possibly go with something like: Rune of Impact + Rune of Might + Rune of Battle. Make him and his Huskarls, super speedy on the charge, super powerful in their strikes and just better at battle itself. Or we could go with something like: Rune of Impact + Rune of Fortitude + Rune of Might, makes him and his Huskarls very tough and very fast on the charge and very strong. Or something more like, Rune of Impact + Rune of Slowness + Rune of Fortitude to make him and his buddies fast, his enemies slower, and him and his buddies tougher.

Though that last one I'd expect not to make an actual Runic Combo.

Erm, how much should we be caring about keeping Armor Runes as Armor Runes, and Banner Runes as Banner Runes, and so forth?

I dunno if freely putting whatever rune we want, on whatever place we want, is okay or not.

On the other hand, this is the mythic age, and it does probably mean that the Rune will adapt and change according to the Rule of Form (I think that was the one) rather than just not-working-at-all, but... @soulcake can you clarify on how freely we can mix, and assume things'll work, when it comes to where runes are placed?

EDIT: Might + Fortitude + Impact sounds like something to go on armor. Great combo though. Leaving some sort of Passage or Dismay to go on the Banner...

On the other hand, I get itchy not having a Rune of Preservation, haha. ><

Almost all non master runes we have versions for all occasion.

If we leave the Master Rune of Passage, Rune of Impact and Dismay as a talisman (although I would like it as a banner so the effect isn't limited to Otrek) then for a banner for Otrek's personal Huskarls... Might be a bit out there but maybe some kind of Ranger based combo?
Rune of Reflection: This Rune allowed Master Yorri to bend the angle of any light that hit this rune towards a single point.
Rune of Sound: This Rune allows the user to propagate sound in the direction it was facing.
Master Rune of Disguise: The war machine bearing this Rune will be almost invisible to enemies, aiming at it becomes difficult as minds are tricked into shooting in the wrong place. Necessary Ingredients:[T2] Invisible Diamonds
So, they've got manoeuvrability, impact and dismay for a talisman. The runes above could be to ensure that they are definitely not noticed until they're really ready to charge and fuck up their enemies.

Master Rune of Disguise for camouflage, rune of sound to hopefully muffle their steps and the rune of reflection to really ensure the camouflage/invisibility.

Now, for a second part of what we could do to help Otrek and his seemingly favoured form of combat? Giving the main Throng a different banner so Otrek and his personal Huskarls can go and do their thing.

Something like this;
Master Rune of Taunting: Forces with this Rune will enrage the enemy into attacking them, their foes losing some of their prowess in the throws of their fury. Necessary Ingredients: [T3] Rumbler's Lung
Master Rune of Challenge: The enemy who hears the wearer of this Rune challenge them must face them or flee. Necessary Ingredients: [T2] Dragon's Lung

Combo those runes with a Rune of Fortitude or Rune of Stone. Make it so the Throng can withstand taunting and pissing off whatever they're fighting. Draw all of the aggro and survive it while Otrek manoeuvres behind them. Fully set up the Hammer and Anvil approach.
