[X] Action Plan: Its Basement Time Motherfuckers
WC :392

  • Confide in Kagome about Zabuza flashbacks.
  • Get experts' advice:
    • Ask Snake for dungeon-clearing SOP. Try accessing the ANBU's intel/documentation about the basement.
      • Ask if she'd be interested in helping us. Warn about clan secrets.
    • Consult Kagome. Have him brief everyone on esoteric hazards.
      • He has carte blanche.
  • Preparations:
    • Reinforce the upper subbasement (floor and ceiling) with 5SB'd ninja wire platforms (to protect the compound from caving-in).
    • Prevent legal troubles. It's our basement: anything within is our clan secret. Get Keiko's and Naruto's assistance.
    • Get Kabuto and/or a team of medics on standby. Promise to share the biological samples.
    • Get several clanless genin on standby (chakra batteries).
  • Gear:
    • Personal:
      • Full body suit, gloves, gas mask (akin to CHAOS suits'). Wear several layers of each. Upper layers need to be easily detachable (glue traps/grabby abominations).
      • Tunneler's Friend, Usamatu's, Banshee Slayers, Earbusters.
      • CHAOS suits for Hazou and Kagome.
    • General:
      • Seals.
      • Equipment, stretchers, and first-aid kits.
      • Kagome's deployable barricades.
      • Soap and lye to scrub down cleared floors.
      • Small animals in cages.
      • Substitution logs.
      • Flour bags.
    • Whatever Kagome wants.
  • SOP (floor-by-floor basis):
    • At the end of each floor, create a staging area. Isolate it from the floor below via Air Domes and Force Walls. Put medic tents within. Leave a Naruto for security.
    • Clearing:
      • Have clones open the outermost Air Dome/Force Wall hatch. Toss in several Usamatsu's, then Tunneler's Friends.
      • Have clones (first elemental, then shadow) move in, bearing lamp seals, earbusters, and cages with small animals.
        • Purpose: engage, provoke, and distract hostiles.
      • While hostiles distracted:Kagome, Akane, and Panashe (if Keiko could borrow her) carefully disable traps; the rest engage remaining hostiles.
      • If the room has multiple exits:
        • Block all except the entrance via Air Domes/Force Walls. Explore them one-by-one.
        • Re-seal all branching paths before moving onto the next floor.
      • Leave trails of substitution targets. Set up the next staging area.
    • Safety:
      • Stick together, don't get separated.
      • Watch each other's backs. Don't trust walls: they could be vectors of attack.
      • Avoid touching anything directly, delegate to clones.
      • Retreat at the first sign of nontrivial medical issues.
      • MEW off dangerous areas as necessary.
      • Beware of esoteric threats:
        • Memetic/antimemetic hazards. Genjutsu seals.
          • Possible countermeasure: Mari interrupting them with another genjutsu (Sunny Day?).
        • Invisible threats (throw flour bags).
        • Illusory walls.
        • Spatial anomalies.
        • Nature chakra (Noburi: be careful with draining).
    • Catalogue and store everything.
    • Have fun!

@MMKII could we add in a line saying any security measures Kagome wants?
To make it clearer.

[X] Akane Training Plan: Gai's Final Lessons
Taijutsu 41-50 (455 XP)
Alertness 31-40 (353 XP)
Physique 26-30 (140 XP)
Empathy 19-20 (39 XP)
Elemental Mastery 11-14 (50 XP)
Chakra Reserves 18-20 (114 XP)
Flame Aura 11-20 (130 XP)
Medical Knowledge 2 (3 XP)
Medical Ninjutsu 1 (1 XP)
123 XP remaining.

Created from this post detailing the thought process and justifications. Take particular note about how Flame Aura receives a slight discount due to the levels in Elemental Mastery.

Feel free to double-check the math, though there's enough remaining XP that it should be fine either way.

The inclusion of MedKnow and MedNin levels (as well as the lack of, say, tens of levels in them or some other Tsunade techniques or whatnot) comes from the end of this post by eaglejarl.

This is a fair point. Given that Lailoken Is Always Right is a trope in this quest, we should all consider this very carefully.

This sort of eliminates the "Throw clones into a meatgrinder" strat though.

I'm inclined to do it the slow way if it maximizes shinies.

Also, we should listen to Lailoken.

I'm reminded of a story of a group of adventures off to recover a holy relic from an extinct dwarvish fortress. They approached its main entrance, an immense, sixty-foot iron door. They examine it and determine that it is trapped. They can't figure out the specifics, but at least establish that it is completely mundane. The barbarian decides, "screw it, mundane traps are a joke anyway. I'll just tank it", and rages in.

The GM replies, "everybody roll a saving throw versus spring-loaded sixty-foot iron door."

This. All the this. I have zero interest in facetanking another inquisition.

Nobody's complaining. For instance, somebody brought up the possibility of Mari committing suicide recently, but there is absolutely no way that could happen because it would get the thread nuked for promoting the normalization of suicide as a trauma coping tactic. As long as the quest is hosted on this site we can rest assured that no named character who is less than a blatant Saturday morning cartoon caricature will ever do anything less than completely prosocial, and that works in the players' favor.

Admittedly, it could also interfere with the crafting of a stimulating experience, but we're fortunate enough to have very clever writers and, hey, natural disasters are still kosher, right? At least, until policy is suddenly and whimsically refashioned and reimplemented without warning?

Think of it as the old writing exercise of avoiding the use of a specific letter. Arbitrary and irrelevant constraints often inspire genius to rise above instead of stifling it. Embrace them!

That isn't the case. As long as you portray it as a bad thing, which they obviously would, it's acceptable.

Mostly looks good but since Akane is a member of the clan is there any reason to not have her learn Ghost scales and Pankantor's hammer?

She's part of the clan now, but this is covering what she learned before she re-joined the party and was just training with Gai and Lee.

It's a good idea for that freefloating 123 XP, but I'm inclined to leave that to a future training plan since Akane might not realistically have had time to learn it since she got adopted.

Bad idea, actually: the first time we use one, it'll alert the whole basement to our presence, priming the countermeasures, attracting the monstrosities, activating the tripwires. Maybe don't use them? Better keep it quiet.

Another series of suggestions, taking @Lailoken's point into account.

  • Confide in Kagome about Zabuza flashbacks.
  • Ask Snake for dungeon-clearing SOP. Try accessing the ANBU's information about the basement?
    • Invite her to join us. Warn about clan secrets.
  • Strategy:
    • Safety is highly important, but our goal is reclaiming useful resources, not destroying everything.
    • Within this constraint, give Kagome carte blanche. Gear, preparations, tactics, precautions...
    • Below are suggestions.
  • Preparations:
    • Reinforce the upper subbasement via 5SB'd platforms (to protect the compound from caving-in).
    • Prevent legal troubles: label everything within the dungeon our clan secret. Get Keiko's and Naruto's help.

        • Try to disable traps without triggering them, preferably via Shadow Clones acting under Kagome's/Akane's/Panashe's (if available) instructions.
        • Same with living entities: aim to disable covertly and from distance.
      • If a room has multiple exits:

Except she has also gained XP since then and she could have saved some.
"She could have saved some" doesn't make sense when you consider what XP is. It's only OOC that it has retroactive training wibbly wobbly capabilities, IC she can only have trained a technique from the time she had access to it.

She's been Goketsu for about a week or two, max, and her XP rate isn't big enough to put that much into them in such a short time. I'd peg it at maybe 50-70 XP post-adoption, which isn't enough to do all that much.

edit: though if there's 50-70 free, we could get one of them up to level 10. Would that be okay?

mmmmm that is quite fair.

How much of Orochimaru's monstrous defenses would be operational at ~ -40 degrees celsius ? I imagine freezing entire floors solid with elemental mastery might just turn a lot of the biological stuff into popsicles.

Let's just ask for permission before we do something sub optimal. @eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail do any of y'all have problems with learning pangolins Jutsu up to 20?

As long as I'm apparently phased in I have to point out that Hazou doesn't explicitly know about nature energy. However, he does know that Jiraiya went to extraordinary and internationally public lengths to prevent anybody from draining summons. He also knows that Orochimaru was his partner and a fellow summoner. It might not be too much of a reach for him to warn Noburi to be very cautious with drain out of a Kagome-trained overabundance of precaution.

Edit: heck, he might even consult Tsunade, which might be a way for him to discover the existence of NE IC.

Wait, are you--
:thonk:

This time on "Ironically funny quotes taken out of context..."
Damn, beaten to it.
:<

@faflec Did y'all get the Pangolin jutsu while Akane was still around? I don't recall.

If y'all got them before she left then it seems sensible to me that she could train them freely, although this is not WOG. If you got them after she left then I would suggest level 5 as a reasonable cap given the time she has had available for training. @OliWhail and @Velorien , speak up if you disagree.

@eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail

On the same note as Oneiros; Do Ghost scales and Flame Aura conflict? (If we know. If she knows both presumably Hazou would have asked her to check, or can so do literally right now since it takes a matter of seconds).
What do you mean by "conflict"?

I would advise against assuming that all, or even most, of his security would be biological. This is a guy who left living-area piping leaking a red fluid which is only visible from the corner of the eye. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he had something down there which could murder Noburi in full view of the entire team and leave them asking, "who's Noburi?"

I think we did get those jutsu before Akane left the party, but she didn't learn them by that point. By my understanding the jutsu are taught directly from someone who already has it, so if Akane didn't already have enough to train on her own she would have had no means of learning it before we got back.

I suppose you could fuzz things a little and say that Akane did learn them before leaving the party but didn't start training it until later, but I wouldn't want to assume that's what you're offering.
