Onward, to the future!

@MMKII Don't you think it is time to release Mari from her burden of sacrificing her own moral and mental well being for the good of the Clan?

I propose that beyond thanking her we also:
  1. Reassure her that we take all responsibility of her past actions as we promised
  2. Ask her to tell us all the bad things that were done in our name. To other people, to the laws of Leaf, but also to herself. We can't really take full responsibility for things we know nothing about. She is free to omit specific details if she doesn't trust our OPSEC skills regarding them, but at least she should tell us why she considers them bad, be it legally or ethically speaking.
  3. Release her from that fateful order we gave her. We will soon not be clan head anymore.
  4. Order her, nay, wish for her to take care of herself. No matter what she currently thinks of herself, every single ninja in our clan loves her and wishes for her to be a part of our family.
  5. Stop delegating to morally questionable things to her in the foreseeable future. That includes missions where she has to try and convince people of things they don't initially want to do.
I'd love to put this (as verbatim as possible) in, as this seems like the best shot I've seen of actually starting to get a crack at Mari's headspace.
We should guilt trip the shit out of Tsunade to act as our emergency medic just in case something really nasty lurks in our pre-owned lair. Oro would have known about shadow and other types of clones available in Leaf and developed countermeasures for them. We might need a Yamanaka to help out in case something memetic could knock Naruto out again: have the mind-technique people mind-wipe or sterilize the mind of a clone before it pops so Naruto Prime won't be incapacitated. We should ask him to see if he's thought of anyway to protect his brain from such Itachi-level attacks in the future and if he would be willing to face such dangers again. If we phrase it right we could call it testing in a relatively controlled environment. We're in Leaf after all and that level of attack wouldn't be easy to replicate anywhere outside of actual combat.
I like these precautions.

[X] Action Plan: Dungeon Crawl
[X] Action Plan: Its Basement Time Motherfuckers
[X] MMKII

Proto Plan: Walls, Bridges, and Science.
I really like the feel of this protoplan, though think the basement might win my vote this round.

"So Hyūga won. Boo hoo, the new Hokage is out to get us. Remember who else was out to get us? Zabuza." Zabuza, emerging from the darkness, a mouth full of jagged teeth grinning through the mask. The feeling of that blade, cutting through his neck like a slow, red line of pain. Of watching his body fall to its knees without him, and knowing that it still wasn't over. The feeling of…
I like the Zabuza flash backs. It gives the feeling that we actually had to sacrifice something when we stopped Zabuza.

On that note, I will vote for any plan that has Hazou talk to Kagome about this. It will be amazing to read. It will help build their relationship, at a time when Kagome is feeling frustrated.

I'd like to read that too.

[X] Action Plan: Its Basement Time Motherfuckers Plus Confide in Kagome

  • Before going into the basement, tell Kagome about your Zabuza flashbacks.

SOP:

  • Clones first, full body suit, gas mask, gloves, tunneler's friend and glorious lifesaver, etc.
  • Use misterators and Noburi's ability to drain any dangerous lifeform.
  • Mark dangerous rooms as unsafe. Use traps to block weird effects.
  • Do not touch anything directly. Use lab animals to test everything found.
  • Catalogue every object's location, purpose, and condition.

@eaglejarl, @Velorien, @OliWhail - Supposing we might have looked into it off screen during the day of the council vote, could we get more information on what's going on with the Turtle Scroll? Since Gai left it to all three of his students collectively, and only one of them could actually use it, are they just expected to hash the matter out between the three of them? If so, do we know how those discussions are going? And if they are at an impasse, does that give the Hokage and/or the Clan Council reason to arbitrate?

Also, do we know whether or not Rock Lee could actually use it, given his difficulties with chakra?

Huh? Both tenten and neji could effectively use the scroll right? Tenten is just super specced into non lethal ranged combat, she isn't necessarily bad at jutsu. In fact, it could work really well for her. Turtles beingher ride to reposition while she acts as bombardment. Humorously similar to keiko actually, though sis is decidedly more.... boom squish.

Do we want to get Snake or Kabuto on board as well?

Do we want to file any requisite paperwork + Orochimaru's pardon to get this declared as Something Something Clan Secrets Something Something ?

[X] Action Plan: Its Basement Time Motherfuckers

It would be really, really funny if snake does end up being oro and we invite them along to delve their own dungeon .

Didn't keiko deduce who snake actually is though? Wasn't she a Sarutobi? I think it would be interesting to approach her when she's not working, and ask if she'd like to be adopted. This would tie us to sarutobi, give us one of the few jounin left in leaf, and let us meme spectacularly about snuncle. Oh, and it wouldn't cost us an adoption slot.

@eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail

Given that Panache was a contract made separately from the deal that got Keiko her tessera does she still have access to those summons from a Pangolin Law (or whatever) perspective?

I haven't spoken to the others yet, but I'm very confident in the following answers. Take them as WOG unless told otherwise.
@Velorien and @OliWhail , let me know if you disagree.

I'm writing "see caveat above" on everything so that it doesn't accidentally get quoted out of context.
Has Keiko already send the message to the Snake Clan and did we get a response? She did say it's only 2-3 days, so I think we should have gotten a reply.

(Also great Updates, thanks for that)
Yes and no, respectively. See caveat above.

Respectively: The following is all you know. Yes. No. HDK but probably not. HDK. See caveat above.

Didn't keiko deduce who snake actually is though? Wasn't she a Sarutobi? I
No, that was Cat. I'm pretty sure she's dead.

?? I'm reasonably sure that Panashe was part of the tessera contract. She's the ninja-esque one who was always subtly mocking the standard Pangolin troops for being dumb meatheads. She snuck up on that guy in the Swamp of Mild Inconvenience and threatened his life in a very British way while telling him where to come in order to trade.

IIRC @MMKII is thinking about Paneru (the engineer we got for ice) or Panjandrum (the cook we got for the initial Skywalker trade). Or Panchipaama (the delinquent we contracted with over...what the fuck did we give her, anyway? Seventh Path ants?).

Or Pandaa, who is Pandaa.

      • Don't want house to cave in or get exploded somehow.
    • Ask Keiko if we can borrow Panache to scout for traps.
    • Handle any and all legal nonsense. This is your horrorterror dungeon now damnit! Anything in there is Gouketsu clan secrets.
      • Ask Keiko for help with any potential legal nonsense.
    • Get Tsunade and/or Kabuto and/or a team of her medics on standby.
    • Subtly ask Snake for dungeon clearing SOP. tips Implement.

      • Put medic tents in these. Move stuff from floor to floor.
    • Clearing (on a floor by floor basis)
      • Have clones open outermost Air Dome/Force Wall hatch.
      • Clones toss in bundles of Usamatsus to help clear the air. Throw some tunneler's friends in when done. Bad air out, good air in.
      • Have clones carry nightlights and firecracker seals and run in to distract/dogpilenasties and activate traps.
      • Traps are handled by Kagome, Akane, and Panache.
      • Remaining baddies get drained/punched/Rasengan'd/blown up by rest.
      • Quickly set up next staging area.

      • Beware of memetic threats and genjutsu weirdness: use elemental clones.
    • Catalogue and store everything.
    • HAVE FUN !!!!

Or Pandaa, who is Pandaa.
I could never forget Pandaa.

IIRC @MMKII is thinking about Paneru (the engineer we got for ice) or Panjandrum (the cook we got for the initial Skywalker trade). Or Panchipaama (the delinquent we contracted with over...what the fuck did we give her, anyway? Seventh Path ants?).
Nah, I was recalling that time we were like "Keiko get stealth spec" and we got Panjandrum instead or something. Yknow the convo, where Keiko is like "You mean you don't want a technique hacker? Or a ...? "

@eaglejarl my bad lol

RIP, time to do edits.

Use misterators and Noburi's ability to drain any dangerous lifeform.
I'm mildly concerned that Snake Uncle may have been studying nature chakra and thus the drain everything approach could be bad. Not sure about how to mitigate the risk though. Maybe something about 'if you see lots of statues, don't drain anything in the dungeon'?

Mark dangerous rooms as unsafe. Use traps to block weird effects.
Maybe also add using force walls and MEW to block the doorways of rooms with weird effects or which may be dangerous.

I think you're quoting an old version. See edits.
Specifically:
SOP:
  • Staging:
    • Create a staging area at the end of each cleared floor, close to the next one.
    • Quarantine it as necessary from the next floor with multiple series of Air Domes and Force Walls.
    • Put medic tents in these. Move stuff from floor to floor.

Also good point on the nature chakra thing...

So, some questions to think about ahead of time:

Are we prioritising breadth or depth in exploration (ie. cursory examination of many rooms to get an overall feel, or slow-but-detailed examination of a few rooms in a clear-and-hold strategy to ensure no surprises cut us off from the rear)?

Do we bring Jiraiya's letter to Orochimaru in with us? Risks losing it in a catastrophic flight/fight situation, but may be handy on the extreme off-chance we run into the guy down there. I don't think it can be stored safely in a seal given it's secured with a seal itself?

If someone's wounded enough to need to return, but can do so safely, do we split the party and continue without them, or all go back together and call it a wasted afternoon? How bad do things have to get before we just throw enough explosives to collapse the area and pull a Brave Sir Robin straight out?

Do we have an emergency escape plan in case of [bad things]?

We don't necessarily have to answer all these in a plan, but some discussion gives the QMs a better feel for how we want to approach this.
