I'd be up for getting a crossbow too. Our gun skill isn't nearly so high that achieving parity would take too long, and we're quite likely to start shifting a lot of priorities if the research Deed goes through. Also I just really want to see Kragg make us a brilliant masterpiece as a sort of symbolic reward for Karak Vlag, much like how Branalhune was made for the Eight Peaks expedition, and I think a crossbow would be better than guns for that.

Theoretically we might, but probably not, be able to create a massive Ulgu ritual to create a portal to the moon via Ulgus very strong thematic connections to the moon and the fact that portals and teleportation are a thing Ulgu can do.

Probably beyond us though. If Teclis had a hundred years to work on it, probably doable then.
"What are you working on?"

"Mooning vampires."

"Didn't I always teach you to keep your armor on around vampires?"

AP spent on achieving parity is AP spent on not improving upon existing capabilities. The self improvement AP spent on learning crossbows could be used instead for Branarhune or spellcrafting.

And I see it as worth the effort for a more powerful ranged option than we would get otherwise, and what it could be used for. Like, for example, not getting into melee range with a Khornate Champion because we sniped him before his anti-magic aura could get buffed up or was close enough to shut our stuff down. I don't trust that a runed gun would be as capable.

Whatever our long-term plans, we should definitely invest in kickflip runed guns in the short term, since they require zero AP investment to be a strict upgrade over what we have now. Just DF, amd we have DF for days.

I guess we could probably get guns, see how good they are, and then decide on if runes and crossbow learning is worth the effort, but it feels kinda cheap. Well, unless the marksman gun runes and revolver runes would have the same options? Because then we could test the waters with revolvers—which we really should get regardless—and then make a choice about marksman pistol or crossbow based on whether they're impressive enough.

Or we could, you know, not try to 1v1 a Khornite champion? At the end of the day the only reason we were faced with such danger was because the fucking ice witch said shit and you'd bet your ass that if we knew she was going saiyen we'd be bringing all the boys, Arsenal, the mages, possibly even the cavalry to fuck the enemy up.

Like realistically, we in most scenario's won't have to worry about anti magic bullshit of Khorne or fighting alone so we could try to develop existing or new skills rather then replace old skills for a questionably benefit.

I'd rather develop existing magic we have now so we can say fuck you with it. A new runic crosbow while possible to deal with a Khornite champion, what's to say he doesn't just say no to rune magic on the cross bow and we got a normal crossbow that do nothing? AP spent on crossbows is AP not spent on upping our magic to fuck the enemy.

I'd guess probably decades, at least.
You know it probably isn't happening but it'd be funny if we managed to build the book writing tower in each province of man just because we were that adventurous and served each province. Now that would be a spectacle

A handy pair of revolvers (or some kickflip automatic) able to unload a dozen or more shots downrange in a hurry, have a markedly different use case than a single-shot, high damage weapon.
I like having multi-shot weapons, as one of our failure states is being overwhelmed across a melee front. One really big crossbow bolt or bullet still leaves their four or five mates standing.

Now, a given revolver shot isn't going to hurt as much as some custom match grade bolt or bullet- but we can shoot again if we miss, or the first doesn't put them down.
And we can shoot in close combat, interweaving with Branulhune much easier than re-cocking a crossbow could ever be.

They're just different weapons for different situations. So get revolver upgrades now- which we can use immediately- and lets later see if the high-powered single-shot is worth investing time in to add as an alternate loadout option for certain energetic walks. Also maybe a shotgun. :)

I'm still partial to a jezail, but I'll admit that if I had my way I'd be willing to play around with warpstone powder and gromril bullets.
Otherwise I agree with you, pistols cover our weaknesses much better than a crossbow, and if we want a runic crossbow, I'd much rather just get a huge rifle.

To play devil's advocate - we have a dragonflask for crowd control now, however, so it's not like we wouldn't have at least one saving throw against being swarmed.

We Already Have One At Home
An amusing though came to me after all the comparison between Mathy and Sigmar, and the attempt to one up him:

*note that this user does not show any actual thought on the comparison, and indeed does not recommend one upping sigmar.
Aka please don't try and off Nagash.

Sure, but how often do we know exactly what we're going into when we walk into a situation? Not very. We might not run into a Champion if Khorne soon, or even ever, but there are other things I would still want a crossbow for.

...I don't parse this. Khornate champion uses his anti-magic aura to say no crossbow—which isn't quite how it was shown to work since it didn't even kick in till he got close and Khorne got the upper hand in a fight, but okay—so instead you want to use... magic? Huh?

That's basically what I was saying?
EDIT: okay, I forgot to actually include the third option of just sticking with the revolvers and not getting a sniper weapon, but still.
