None of that was a dice roll. That was an authorial choice.
Actually, it could've been. BoneyM doesn't show us all of the dice rolls, so it is possible that they rolled for "How much of this does Borek understand", got a Nat 1 and the poor dwarf then immediately assumed the absolute worst and made some poor decisions.

Now, based on what peeks behind the curtains we've gotten that almost definitely isn't the case - for example, Panoramia's decision to stay behind was based on BoneyM's reading of her character - but it is something that could be done within the system that Divided Loyalties operates on.

Well, we knew this vote was going to be pretty one sided, but I did not expect it to be this one sided...

Thanks to remind me to make it more one sided

Stoke the Forge + Burning Shadows = Target Fires burns hotly with a Burning Shadows effect. Very lethal.

I had a similar, non wind harder version in mind.

Rune of light in the ceiling, with something that light can pass through covering it enchanted with Burning Shadows.

Hook a giant array of these up to a targeting system similar to what the Eye of Gazul has so it doesn't hit Dwarves/Humans/the We, stick it in key locations underground, and this basically makes any underground invasion, at least those that pass through those locations, an incredibly Difficult campaign for the invaders.

Oh yeah, I think I forgot to vote?

I don't think we'll run into any Norse Dwarfs, but then, if you'd asked me back when we were in Pragg, I'd have certainly said the same thing about pulling Vlag out of the Realm of Chaos.

I want to say we will not meet any Norscan dwarfs but Boney has a habit of rolling for things I did not expect before. Also meeting some dwarfs with none of the baggage would be nice

Well, after a bit of digging, I feel this is very likely the most relevant map for us right now. It's from Realm of the Ice Queen, 2nd edition RPG, so I'm entirely confident that it's one Boney is aware of, and it's also the only canon map I can find that actually has Black Blood Pass.

If this is the right map, then we'll be passing right by Sjoktraken. It'd probably be a bit too easy for it to still be occupied by Dwarfs, but I could certainly imagine a weekly action to take a look around the ruins.

So, uh, I'm not really good with maps, but... it sounds like we're going near where the Norse dwarves would be if they're still alive? Is that right?

...Guys, what would we even do with more dwarf favor? Mathilde's kind of already as beloved as she's going to get.

Huh, just noticed that the path of the Black Blood Pass goes awfully close to Clan Moulder's underground Capital of Hell Pit. Maybe Mathilde will get a chance to visit undercover and bring Qrech some souvenirs?

We're (probably) passing right by Sjoktraken, which was their main (only) port, and the map Briefvoice posted has what looks like Norse Dwarf mining settlements on both sides of Black Blood Pass, which we are taking.

Course, they might just be dead.

Well, the Norse Dwarves hid from the Norscans for thousands of years behind their Sarsenstones, rings of standing stones around their Krakkas, with each stone bearing a Master Rune that somehow protected them, preventing anyone from approaching.

If they've switched those back on, we might not be able to see them even if they're there, but Mathilde is likely to be particularly good at detecting the signs of such protection.

There we are also on the way to The Last Hope, and as a fan from Sandman I would love to see Mathilde and her pals reenact Sandman's At Word's End Arc.

Well, if we don't really know how to spend DF for something useful we can always have ask for the Phoenix King Crown so that Mathilde can put it on her head before sleeping and practicing her smug expression in front of the mirror...

Or we can keep buying runic items, from mosty practical things like new amulets or weapons to more extravagant things like putting runes on our dragon chair so that it also gives massages, or getting wolf a runic collar.

On the one hand, I'm pretty sure that's from first edition.

...on the other hand, I don't think there's another source that talks much about the Norse Dwarfs, period.

Unfortunately one of the Skaven holds I'm least confident about infiltrating.

That place is a nightmare, I think the walls are literally living flesh.

I'd like to point out that in canon the Hellpit is built in 9 circles (yes, just like those 9 circles), and that when a chaos army invaded with the intent of destroying the city, they only got as far as the third circle before an army of Rat Ogres stomped them flat.

Also, the entire city is made of living flesh.

I'm usually all for sidequests, but this one I think we should avoid.

Or it might even literally be nothing. Nothing says the dwarfs would have spoken even if we did come face to face with one.
It would not literally be nothing. Knowing that they were alive to snub us would answer several questions we had. (Have).

And that's ignoring the literal wizardry we can pull just from looking at someone.
I voted to wait and see because most of the other options seemed outrageously risky. Rushing into the forest or even the karak when we knew basically nothing about the situation and there was a mutagenic demigod sitting there seemed foolhardy to me.

Part of it is that I saw the risks as being far worse than 'just' death. 'And then Mathilde was a Chaos Spawn' is one of the worst endings to this quest I can think of. At least if she dies she gets to go hang with Ranald. Chaos Spawn would instead lead to gibbering madly and madly gibbering, and even if killed I'm pretty sure would result in her soul getting grabbed by one of the Four for eternal torture. That's the kind of ending that taints everything that precedes it.
We investigated four different Skaven clans. That faction has a spell that just goes, 'Turn enemy into Skaven.'

Not to mention the fact that we had a Brass Orb on our curios shelf somewhere for a couple of years.

I suspect the enthusiasm will cool after the first two dwarf fortresses will be "They are all dead, Dave" :V

Especially with side dish of big honking Norscans, Skaven and Orks. I certainly don't want to get even within just sight of Hellpit. That place is nightmare made manifest.

That doesn't mean that we cannot find interesting loot there though...
We already haul enough interesting loot back. I am hyper unenthusiastic about picking up more. We have galore of cool papers to write and three items of some research value, on top of our other crapton of work. The runaway possibility of looting something that Skaven or Orks couldn't loot themselves is like, kinda really eh. The coolest shit will be behind runes, and we have no runesmiths to unravel those.
