For almost every variety of Elf, their experience with foreign Elves is bitter enmity. It is possible to overcome that with sufficient diplomatic skill, but Asarnil is not in possession of any kind of diplomatic skill. That means the burden will be entirely on Laurelorn, which means they need to have a need for Asarnil's services for them to go to the effort of reaching out to him and tolerating the Caledorian bullshit that will inevitably fall out of his mouth.

Elves aren't like puppies, you can't just put them in the same place and have them automatically become friends.
Alternatively, Deathfang could pull rank on Asarnil and inform him that he's taking a vacation in the Dragon Towers for a month, and will be very cross with him if his antics get him kicked out of the city. :V

"Bullshit that will inevitably fall out of his mouth"

Ok, that was a hilarious line, thank you.

Also, given that those said ultimate examples were ultimately engineered by the Bird Brain in trying to separate Gork and Mork, it's likely something like them can't come about again.

But the result in canon was the strongest waaagh ever, so it did ultimately benefit the greenskins. Idk if that was birdbrain's plot backfiring or not, in just saying that Gork and Mork now understand what could be, so I think they are going to do it on their own.

Given how betrayed Mork felt at the separation I do not think it is something he could willfully do and the same for Gork really now that the Only Gork faction has been expunged.

"So in the end, I settled on the village of Hargendorf, at the mouth of the Demst. I told them the Eonir could be pacified by sacrificing trees of the Empire to them, as it was the killing of the trees of Laurelorn that had angered them in the first place. That I'd have a cargo of 'sacrifices' delivered to them, and that they'd be paid to move it upriver and drop it off at a marked point, and if all goes well this could mean lasting safety for Hargendorf." She wraps up her presentation and looks to you for your evaluation, trying and failing to keep nervous expectation from her expression.
Well this is certainly one way to run a business

Keep The Wagons Rolling: Eike believes implicitly that logistical efficiency is absolutely essential for the continued survival of the Empire and its allies. +2 Learning, +3 Stewardship.
Nice, certainly a useful trait

Seen, Not Heard: Eike learned at a very young age not to draw attention to herself, an instinct that serves her very well in some ways but holds her back in others. +3 Intrigue, +1 Piety, -2 Diplomacy
Aaand a kinda tragic one.

Your other academic endeavour is an attempt to extract useful intelligence from the Only Gork business without disclosing the part where you may have technically, briefly, and inadvertantly become an Avatar of Mork
Lolololol.

Glad it's finally done.

@Boney I trust your opinion quite a bit, so i would love a recommendation right now. I'm at a library and want to pick out a terry pratchet book. Blink of the screen, color of magic, the long series, raising steam, good omens, reaper man, or guards guards?
Guards Guards was where I started way back in the early 2000s and I think it's a good point to get into Discworld, it's the start of a new PoV character within the series - it's a riff on police media in general. Reaper Man is the start of another one, about what happens if Death starts getting interested in the lives he normally only appears at the end of. Good Omens is excellent, but it's a modern-day story with Neil Gaiman instead of part of the Discworld series.
Are you me? I got loaned that book at summer camp in the early aughts and stayed up all night reading it.
No shit? Guards Guards was my first Discworld book as well, the entire Guards mini-series was my favourite, I'd recommend all of those books.

I think most of the information threadmark changes, and most of my reactions to the update, have been covered between the update and me waking up, but have some diffcheckers for future reference:

Char Sheet: Edit: Not making a new diffchecker for it, but college rep has been fixed from 214 to 216. Got that fixed in my saved doc, so it'll be accurate in future diffcheckers. Thanks @BurnNote --the funniest thing is, i noticed that when i made the diffchecker, and meant to mention it to boney myself...and then my body decided i really needed to use the restroom and i forgot by the time that was done :p)

It's possible, but given the circumstances I don't think any such champion would end up looking like Skarsnik or Grimgor, Cunning or Brutal. If anything, a Cunning and Brutal (or is it Brutal and Cunning?) Greenskin might be the result, unity instead of division.

[ ] House Filuan
We really want to do this now, since we want to build a RoW road in Laurelorn and Filian might be intending to do something similar. Better we can work together than at cross purposes.

[ ] Swordplay
We should at the latest do this before we go on the Elfcation, so that we can get a measure of how Branarhune matches against elven swordplay. Hopefully we'll figure out how to best use our fighting style to make a good impression.

[ ] Sofia
Obligatory.

[ ] Gretel
It's been too long. I wanna see how best Journeymanling is doing.

[ ] Okri
I wanna see gyrocopter dropped Ironbreakers so bad, but we've got a bunch of long-standing socials that people want to get to, so I doubt this one has much chance this turn.

[ ] Middenland
[ ] Nordland
Speaking of old stuff, we really should get around to doing at least one of these, considering how important both are for all the stuff we're getting up to in Laurelorn.

[ ] Wissenland
I am mildly interested in who's getting up to things here, but only mildly.

[ ] The Black Water Canal
As @picklepikkl pointed out, we're two years past when this should have finished. We need to see what the delay is, and if there's any funny business Mathilde should be aware of. Given how important the project is, I don't want to sit on this one.

[ ] Druchii Diplomats
If you want to try to negotiate with the Druchii, vote for this. Personally, I don't.

[ ] Amber College
[ ] Gold College
While we don't need the College Favor for the Orbflex anymore, these have both been around for a long time, and I'm especially curious about what the Gold College has managed to do with all that skaven tech.

[ ] Skull River Ambush
It's looking like the mystery here might be coming to a close soon, so we might want to close this chapter and send it off.

Putting that all together, I think I'm going to vote for:

[ ] House Filuan
[ ] Sofia
[ ] Gretel
[ ] The Black Water Canal

I'm giving these my priority. Two new socials, an important old one, and a longstanding meetup with a great character.

[ ] Middenland
[ ] Nordland
[ ] Amber College
[ ] Gold College
[ ] Skull River Ambush

And I'm approval voting all of these old socials too.

Id like to talk to Sofia, Gretel and the Druchii the most. Next in line for me are House Filuan and the Canal.

Sofia because Id like to know who dear Pan Pan is going to spend most of her time with and just through being ourselves and our reputation making clear that she better toe the line there.
Gretel because she had some time to establish herself and make some progress and Im quite interested in the whole project.
The Druchii because wed better keep an eye on them and know what they are up to. And to possibly sound out more possibilities to take advantage of them.
House Filuan and the Canal are more general interest and information gathering options. Everything that moves in Tor Lithanel is interesting and the Canal has been suspisciously quite as Ive been reminded.

Manann, Lord of the Seas +5 - Extensive and Esoteric Imperial
Rhya, Earth Mother +2 - Extensive Imperial
Taal, King of the Wild +2 - Extensive Imperial
Dazh, God of Fire and Sun +2 - Extensive Kislevite
Addaioth, Bringer of Wrath and Fire +2 - Asrai, Asur
Hukon, the Sunderer +2 - Obscure Asur
Great Maw +1 - Imperial
Hashut +3 - Extensive Imperial / Dwarven
Gotta say, I'm pleasently surprised we got so many theological goodies from Nuln. Our religious section is shaping up - we now have all publically available books on the Northern Pantheon, and all publically available books on three out of five Gods of the Southern Pantheon. And also some books on Morr and Manann that we probably shouldn't have.
(no books on Sigmar, as is right and proper)

@Boney, is it possible to ask some questions about their contents, or should I wait a while until Mathilde has time to go over them?

Huh, @Boney I think the Collage Rep is wrong. Favor went up by 12 (8 Row+ 4 Paper), but rep only went up 10.

What about the Elemental texts? Need to extract that sweet sweet metaphysics lore.

Elementalism +6 - Extensive and Esoteric Imperial / Asur
Potions +5 - Extensive and Obscure Imperial / Extensive Kislevite
Elementals +6 - Extensive and Esoteric Imperial / Kislevite

I don't imagine we can just spend an action reading the books and have metaphysics splurged at us, so to learn more I imagine we'll have to use them? First thought that comes to mind us could we substitute an air elemental for an apparition for binding (there are air elementals, right??)?

Might also want to try actual apparition binding first…

Has Regimand met Eike? We really need to find some time to gush at him about his wizard granddaughter Mathilde's amazing apprentice some time.

Reaper man is probably one of my favorite books I've ever read. There's a couple lines from it that pop up in my mind pretty regularly. I personally started with Small Gods, which is *definitely* one of my favorite books, even if it is oddly disconnected from basically all the various major plotlines of the series.

Mathilde skimmed the most interesting while transporting them, so ask away.
  • I imagine the Addaitoh books mention the fact that He escaped to the mortal world (or, well, was taken to the mortal world by Ladrielle). Do they explain what that means? Do the Asur or the Asrai believe that Addaitoh is hanging out in some specific physical place, and if so do they say where that is?
  • As above, but for Hukon. Do the Asur believe they know where He is?
  • Does Addaioth have any symbols/sacred objects/motifs etc. aside from flames?
    • If so, do any of them overlap with Dazh's symbolism?
    • Also, do either Dazh or Addaioth have any sort of key in their symbolism?
  • Is there anything about how the the Ellinilli feel about one another? In particular, is there anything saying what Addaioth thinks about Mathlann?
  • Now that we have some books on Hashut, is there anything Mathilde can see that could indicate a connection between Him and Morghur and/or The Horned Rat?
    • Is there even the slightest hint in the dwarven books that Hashut has some history with the dwarves prior to the Chorfs?
  • Do Taal/Rhya/Manann books agree which bodies of water belong to which God, or is it contested?
  • Is there anything in the books on Manann or in any other of those books that implies that He is, in fact, 'a watery, damp squib of a little God'?

Fun fact: we got +8 CF for Rite of Way, which is more than we've gotten for any paper (I think) and as much as we got for the book on the We. We got fourteen CF for the MAP, 4 for the Ulgu version and 10 for our share of LM Olenus's work in making it Polysevirric (and we don't know how much he got, which was undoubtedly significant).

I think it speaks well of the Colleges' institutional structure and incentives that there is much more street cred to be had for something that benefits the young learning wizards of every College than for something that will turn the tide of maybe one or two battles a year. The latter is splashy and dramatic, but the former makes the wheels of every student's education turn just a little more smoothly, and in the long run that's what really matters. As any player of strategy games knows, anything that enhances your growth curve is extremely strong and demands investment.

Finally we added our Battle Magic into the Grey library. Awesome to see it already making a difference.

Trait discovered:
Keep The Wagons Rolling: Eike believes implicitly that logistical efficiency is absolutely essential for the continued survival of the Empire and its allies. +2 Learning, +3 Stewardship.

One of the most gorgeous traits I've ever witnessed. Everyday goods being slightly cheaper to the peasants can mean so so much on a macro scale.

[ ] Swordplay
Test your newly-completed swordfighting style against the swordsmen of Tor Lithanel.

Absolutely want this one, test ourselves against much older swordsmen.

Always love to check in on Stirland and Roswita. The province has come a long way from the start of the quest, when it was basically a backwater sheepfold run by a wool cartel. Sort of like a petrostate for sheep.

There's something important to note here: we get College Favor from the usage of our spells. When Rite of Way does something big and useful we should get a little ping of Favor. So the Rite of Way probably gave us less than 8 CF, since the Fimir extermination got counted already. This means that while the MAP gave us a big chunk of CF on creation, it's unlikely to keep doing so because it's something that quietly exists in the background, while RoW will give a small trickle for as long as that sort of terrain fixer remains useful.

[ ] Swordplay
Test your newly-completed swordfighting style against the swordsmen of Tor Lithanel.
this would be a cool way to test and maybe improve our swordplay. Also would be a good way to make some more friends and do some good networking within laureon
[ ] House Filuan
House Filuan seems to be pursuing the import of large amounts of marble, much more than might be needed for small goods or maintenance. See if you can find out what sort of construction project might be in the works.
I want to see what they are up too cause I cam curious hopefuly they are expanding the city or something. Also helps us get better connections with another major house
[ ] Middenland
See how the Ulricans are going with their new Eonir coreligionists.
the ulricans are quite cool and I love to see how the new eonir coreligionists are hanging with them
[ ] Nordland
See what's going on with the Ulrican schismatics that Nordland is backing.
we haven't gottena a chance to really see what going on with nordland and this be a great chance to do that so I am really curious to see what up
[ ] Elementalism
Now that you're sitting on a massive stockpile of magical texts, explore what 'Elementalism' actually is from an inside perspective.
this is one I very much 1000% would like to do so we can start to get to the bottomon of the mystyer on wtf is Elementalism about

We opened up a possible action with Ogres just this turn (negotiating for Titan-metal). I don't get the impression that it's one the thread is enthusiastic about taking given the ease and utility of the runic capstone option, though.

On the one side, having a bunch of dwarf apprentices churn out runic capstones by the dozen.

On the other, traveling across the Dark Lands, dodging greenskins, chaos dwarves, and worse, to reach the Ogre Kingdoms, and trying to find a Chieftain willing to let us loot a citadel on top of an impossibly tall mountain in the hopes that there will be an untouched source of processed titanium located within, and then hauling as much of it as possible back to the Empire.
