Regarding the Cardassian-Biophage discussion,

I would assume that the Federation would've given the Cardassians everything we have on the Biophage and our countermeasures simply because the Biophage is That. Fucking. Dangerous.

SWB's Intelligence Tracking Sheet
I've noticed we tend to get scatterbrained with our intelligence reports, which is not a very good place to be. I've put this together mostly to highlight what reports are extremely old, but it should also serve as a repository of current information. By no means complete, still working on confirming dates and scattered intel reports like Sydraxian fleet strength, but I wanted to get this out of the reply box before the forums ate it.

So uh. I thought the Biophage vaccine came in both resistant hull coatings and individual injections, and in the aftermath of the crisis we distributed the vaccine everywhere in reach of us, yes? The Romulans, the Klingons, all our affiliates, all people who could come into contact with our affiliates...

We'd definitely have made Biophage vaccination part of regular treatment for our officers and ships, and so would the Romulans-- hell, even the Klingons. I can almost swear to have actually seen words in updates to that effect.

So, why was that Bird of Prey vulnerable? Why was our listening post vulnerable? With the people immune and their surroundings made resistant to the vaccine, they should've been able to fend off the biophage or at least have time to send warning, right?

...has the Beast adapted to our vaccine?

Regarding the Cardassian-Biophage discussion,

I would assume that the Federation would've given the Cardassians everything we have on the Biophage and our countermeasures simply because the Biophage is That. Fucking. Dangerous.
Agreed.

I STRONGLY suspect that information on and countermeasures for the Biophage are a thing we include in basically any contact package.

Actually we don't know that we have. We did while the Biophage was an ongoing threat, but it's been years since then; it's possible it's no longer standard procedure among the Klingons or even us.

Do we have confirmation that the outpost was a biophage outbreak?

While the Klingons are iffy I bet the vaccine is part of our standard medical checkups.

Is X person inoculated? No? Inoculate them.

Do we have an idea of relative fleet strengths currently in the GBZ? I vaguely remember being roughly even overall before the Licori war drew away ships.

Check the last intel update. From my understanding we have more ships but the Cardassians are more combat focused than we are when it comes to ship design.
We have more ships if we count our allies.
We don't have a count of Cardassian allies, but they are contributing ships, enough that the Cardassians were willing to empty their fleet and leave patrol duties to the Dylaarians. That means that in effect, the Cardassians can draw on a fuller portion of their fleet than we can.

I don't like the way you equate Amarki and Apinae, who are full Federation members, to "allies". They are not allies, they are us and we are them, albeit hampered slightly by separate command structure.

You haven't heard a whisper that any Cardassian affiliate other than the Dylaarians is in the GBZ, and we haven't seen anything at all from the Dylaarians. Certainly there will be less coordination between them and Cardassian forces than there is among the three sub-divisions of Federation forces. The Cardassians left patrol duties to the Dylaarians... for all of about a week, while they had a pretty good idea where Federation forces were and were sure we weren't in a position to sneak around them at that exact momment. They sure don't seem to do so with any regularity.

I appreciate you not wanting to get over-confident, but any way you slice it that report on Cardassian forces in the GBZ was pretty damn good news.

I don't care how the semantics are put, word choice had nothing to do with my meaning. Let's put it this way: in the GBZ, we have X ships total, and the Ashalla Pact has Y ships total. Both sides must leave a portion of their ships behind when they undertake operations, especially offensive operations, but even defensive operations.

We just got a report that showed us the Cardassians have Z ships, where Z is less than Y. We should not act like this is the same as saying they have Y ships and make comparisons between their Z ships and our X ships, that would be misrepresenting the situation.

e: And I would contest that Cardassian military command does not have a stranglehold on the operations of forces on their side of the GBZ. Our forces operate semi-independently, any closeness in command is balanced by the Cardassian structure that requires control.

[JK] hey at least we know that when they run out of ships to throw at each other. We can easily conquer both of them.

Nah, what'll probably happen is that one overpowers the other to the point the Council starts asking Starfleet to step in, and we will sooner or later, and the losing power becomes a Fed affiliate. That, or the Biophage will put enough of a hold on the war for them to work out their differences. They might see that they're falling behind us and decide to work together to remedy that, since the war doesn't seem to be working.

You're underestimating the rate of expansion the Biophage would undergo - it's literally exponential, since as it expands more and consumes more it has more forces and larger borders to expand and consume, ramping up and up. We could hold the line, but there'd be a critical threshold at which it would spread faster than we could burn it. And given how huge a threat it was when it was constrained just to the Neutral Zone, it would reach that size long before it left Cardassian borders.

Considering the sheer scale of anti-biophage anti-vaccine operation that most likely should have happened in the aftermath of the crisis, as well as teh fact that we have little reason to keep it a secret, it seems very likely to me that the Cardassian got access to the cure relatively quickly after we did. And considering their rather paranoid nature it seems logical to me that they are prepared for an outbreak of it (or something similar like for example the topic of the nice yellow banner...).

I doubt they would react very differently to the Romulans or Klingons (or even us) and probably be a lot more careful than lets say the Gaeni ...
