In 7-ish years, when we have a new President:

Chen: Hi, Starfleet, remember me? Now that the scary Pacifist Lady with the mind reading isn't my potential boss anymore, I'd like to get back into things. Maybe the big chair?

#notallPacifists

What even is our total C and cap? I've been ignoring it ever since the Biophage Crisis.

From last snakepit:
Federation Grading:
Current Minimum Science = 200 [Now 248]
Current Maximum Combat = 542.5 [Now 271] *

(Maximum Combat is a Soft cap, will gain +1 Militarisation per 5% of cap over - Each point of Threat Level adds 5% to Max Combat)

So we still have room to basically double the size of the fleet.

Leila Goes Mad With Threadmark Power (still canon though)
Fearing the mind-reading pacifist who will surely see the foul ambitions that churn in her augment heart, Patricia Chen vanishes from the public eye.

A year later, she reappears, now a naturalized Qloathi citizen. Amid a whirlwind of suspicious political scandals and deaths, Chen rises to the top of the Qloathi government.

Two years after that - after engineering a breakdown of the usual political barriers against this - Chen takes control of the entire STO triad. The STO conspiracy exposed in 2320 was just a test run masterminded by Chen, and this time she knows exactly what to do.

Five years later, the STO secedes from the Federation under God Empress Chen. They rename themselves the Followers of Chen. Or, in Qloathi, the Chenkethi.

A few decades later there has been some linguistic evolution, and the Tzenkethi are a hostile power located along the Federation/Cardassian border.

What the actual fuck?!

Would be a rather roundabout way of controlling the Federation, since she could just make a bid for a president later, while staffing the Starfleet and the Council with her underlings.

It's a JOKE people god. Maybe Patricia is just taking a break from her 20 years of blistering work to cultivate a zen garden and work on her inner peace before taking a swing at the big seat?

This is actually a surprisingly realistic possibility if Chen is actually an Augment like has been previously suggested.

Rather than being blocked, I don't recall us deciding to promote Lathriss to Admiral in the first place. We voted to make head of Starfleet Tactical into an Admiral position, but normally in such a case we vote on who moves into the new slot rather than auto-promoting the incumbent. Granted there was a lot of talk in the thread, including from me, about retaining Lathriss, but I would have been willing to consider competing bonuses to see whose was best.

I suspect that it what actually went down is that our move to up Starfleet Tactical to Admiral tier is what was blocked. It fits with this:
An explanation (and a choice on an alternate upgrade to a different department) is forthcoming.
saying we're getting a choice to upgrade a different department rather then choosing a different head of Tactical.

Huh, interesting. Starfleet Tactical was actually the cheapest department to upgrade to Admiral rank last Snakepit.

Reorganise a Starfleet Command from a Vice Admiral position to an Admiral position. Pick one: 50pp for Shipyard Ops, 55pp for Ship Design Bureau, 45pp for Starfleet Tactical (This may create subordinate Vice Admiral positions)

So bright side, if we get to pick a different department, I guess we effectively got it at a discount?

They are the Pacifists, so it does stand to reason.

I look forward to the Snakepit options the Pacifists offer. I hope they don't disappoint (as in, they offer options planmakers try hard to include in plans).

I honestly would be okay with rebranding Tactical too. Starfleet Crisis Operations with a Preparations department would make a certain amount of sense.

e: also it seems possible that we might be questioned on promoting Lathriss to full Admiral when his only Starfleet experience is with Tactical. I would definitely be okay with shuffling him to another department to prove himself, provided he doesn't them retire / go on leave as our brass seem wont to do

My guess is the Pacifists don't want Tactical too become a too large part of Starfleet.

I mean, sure, why not?

In: T'Arvit, Nalae Veraniss, Iliae Rurliss, Zolani Volanen

is it bad that none of these names ring any kind of bell with me?

i somewhat remember seeing zolani name a few times but i can`t remember when and why
the others i really do not remember at all

So there is a dimension to Chen's sabbatical that I haven't seen noted yet: She is following in Kahurangi's footsteps.

Again.

Not a bad idea, really. Kahurangi was her mentor and took a sabbatical and then came back as one of Starfleet's most celebrated commanders, if not the greatest. Kahurangi also lasted twelve years in the hotseat compared to Sulu and Sousa's four, so the idea of a sabbatical clearly has merit.

On a different note, I'm curious what the political backlash will be against the president's office from the Amarki. Sure, we just had one of our appointments denied. This sucks. The Amarki, the first memberspecies outside of the original four just had one of their most highly decorated admirals snubbed by a relative newcomer.
