He's the guy that took the USS Dryad, a Miranda, through an active battle zone to rescue people from a stricken civilian ship. I hadn't done much with him lately, but Briefvoice reminded me of him.
Sadek is the guy who dove his stock Miranda into a Ked Paddah / Licori battle to save civilians. Apparently his name was spelled wrong before.
e: Which incidentally, was conduct that was admired by both sides, so he would have some respect from the Licori, or at least known to be honorable.

The other is that I'm half expecting us to go straight from a Licori war to a Cardassian one, and so I want our first Excelsior-A to be a terror.

Normally I'd agree, but we got called out for it last appointment, so this looks like we sent some poor Public Relations officer to say "Yeah, we hear you

We do need someone with better Diplomacy in the GBZ command role, Nash is tied up with the Licori war currently and while we have all these wars on, EC asking for help from neighbouring sectors is not going to find much there to respond ....

We got called out for it? I vaguely recall complaints, but not recently.
We even voted mostly non-humans for the Vice Admiral Operations Theater billets!
To be fair, T'Lorel is famous all by herself, and from a completely meta POV, she was captain of the Sarek for less than 200 pages and a month. Straak has been captain of Sarek so long that they are practically synonymous to me at this point. 2316 is gonna be confusing
The complaints were about Eaton commanding the largest Starfleet and member combined fleet in decades. Nevermind that Eaton and Thuir were the only human appointees that day.

This probably isn't big enough to merit a threadmark or anything, I dunno. It just popped into my head while I was struggling unsuccessfully to write another scene in Chapter Four, and I'm in a frame of mind that made me want to fire it off.

Major Gelax's head twisted around as the aide rushed in. Most of his troops had already beamed aboard the alien dreadnought- but Tintreax was command post of the fleet's commando elements, and he'd stayed behind to join the third wave.
"The second wave reports that they've secured the bridge, though there were no survivors from Diressadie's squad."
"Damn- but at least they died well. Starfleet must have run after they knew we could find them there."
"They speculated as much. The area around the bridge seems deserted, sir."
"Good. take Transporter Room Four off of cycling duties, and get ready to beam me over with two aides-" He jabbed a claw at the one who'd just brought the news. "Get Trixedd, you two are with me." He turned to his second officer. "Captain Drakh, stay here and direct the boarding operations until I can establish a command post. And order my tech-composers to Transporter Room Four. They're trained. We'll go directly to their bridge and start taking control of their main computers!"
She clucked once. "Sir, aren't you concerned about traps?"
"Captain, the Federation may bluff, and it may cheat, and it may profane- but I doubt they have the killer instinct to set very impressive traps. Especially not after we've sent whatever's left of their crew in their area running for their lives."
He stood, striding for the door. "Now, let's take that dreadnought!"

The funny thing is, I might actually push for Jeanette Devereaux when the choice comes up next year. Sure, narratively, Leaniss all the way. But mechanically? Enterprise already has great presence simply for being Enterprise, and the other benefit of +5 pp/year is pretty snooze - Zhang makes a better captain, and she doesn't even have a command yet. Meanwhile, Jeanette gives +1S, which is good, and +1 to First Contacts, which is also good.
(All this is predicated on the war with the Licori ending in a year's time, which... well, I hope we can do it?)
Maybe Devereaux for Sarek next year instead. Might have an easier time than trying to fight the tide for Leaniss.

So I was looking at our current ec captains and thinking on past ones and they have mostly been either Vulcan or human. I do think we need to start identifying additional captains from the other races that can be EC captains.
