And yet the Seyek battleship was called...... a battleship explicitly in the last updateit was mentioned.

Yes, for which I am very happy. In the future however, I would like it to be very clear what a ships purpose is whenever we run into new races.

If Oneiros calls something an explorer, I want that to mean that our people who have seen this ship have determined that it is intended to go out and look for things and just so happens to be very large, ie: the Honiani ships.

And if he calls it a battleship then I want that to mean that those same people think that it is intended to serve as a combat ship first and foremost, regardless of what else it can do.

So, I am voting for the new system.

Okay I'mma be straight with all of you.

USS Excelsior isn't an Explorer. Nor is USS Thirishar, nor USS Salnas, nor Endurance, Kumari, or Avandar. No more than literally any other ship in our fleet, and far less than the likes of Enterprise or Stargazer. It's honestly kind of silly that we call them that.

If you object to naming them Capital ships instead, come up with some third name that's better and I'll be first to vote for it, but I refuse to keep calling them Explorers unless they're in the Explorer Corps.
And furthermore the CDF Trager, Ronagot, and Karnack are Explorers, but cruiser-sized.

I voted not to change mainly because I feel it would be confusing for someone reading through the quest from the beginning, but I don't have a lot of skin in the game.

If they are reading through the thread they will eventually reach this last post, and possibly a future one, where this designation change happens.

That would be a problem if we shifted what size category the word "cruiser" refers to, but not so much with the Frigate/Cruiser/Capital system. Not more confusing than the current state of affairs already is, anyway. I think we had people confusing Explorers as a size category with EC ships a number of times already.

[X][ACADEMY] Custom - shift 1 Tech to Officers
[X][EXPLORER] Custom - shift .25 from Tech to Officer
[X][WARP] Keep to the old system.
[X][SHIP] Adopt the new Frigate/Cruiser/Capital system

Fixing my previous vote for where I voted for the [Explorer] tag twice

I'm in favour of the new system - it clearly defines and differentiates between Size and Role. All of our Explorers will still be called Explorers, they'll be Capital Explorers instead of Explorer Explorers. Now that it's been brought up, it's faintly embarrassing the prides of our fleet are technically designated "Explorer Explorers". The informal name will still be Explorer, this is purely an administration-side cleanup.

"Science escort" is the one that's been bugging me the most.

There is no max; ships get faster without limit right up into and through the TNG/VOY era.

Warp 10 is the limit in TNG era. The question is what does that translate to in the OG system. Technically I suppose it doesn't matter because with the TNG system all they did was keep on adding decimal places.

...Nope, I don't get it.
Be glad. It's from an episode that's less canon than random omakes of this quest.

I'm not even kidding. Something resembling said random omake MIGHT have happened somewhere in the canon universe or a mirror universe, but the episode officially did not happen at ALL, hence it's less canon.

What If I told you there was a Voyager story where the climax was Tom Paris kidnapping Janeway so they can evolve into scalies and procreate a whole new lizard branch of the human race?

Would you think this story was:

A) a serious canon episode?

-or-

B) a fanfic writer inviting you to his magical realm?

It's a reference to a stupid episode of Voyager where they did stupid stuff with a stupid result. Check the link if want a better explanation but I'd recommend against it.

"It will shock you how much it never happened."

It is a reference to the worst episode of ST: Voyager, and arguably the worst episode of all of Trek. Threshold, in which Tom Paris builds an engine that goes to infinity and turns into a newt.

It's much worse than it sounds.

Now if only my mind could be convinced of that and stop remembering it.

That sounds like such a train wreck I almost want to go find it - fortunately, I already have far too much on my to-be-watched list.

EDIT: Whoops, accidentally quoted another thread whilst replying to this.
