[X] Dual Reaction Thrusters

I want Starfeelt to grow into being the Starfleet of TNG era, but considering the limitations of what we can do currently, and the challenges being faced, here I think that this first ship should be an interceptor/combat vessel, and have it be upgraded a few times while we build a few rounds of SCIENCE, and also diplomacy, for those who like that sort of thing :p.

My one concern is that this build could feed into starfleet being seen as purely 'military' by United Earth, and as such will not get to develop its exploration aspects. Hopefully it's not going to be a problem.

Easy pick here, we are still newish to space and dont have the tech edge the later federation has plus with this being a hopefully big part of the early Human Navy we want it to be able to do the patrol job well so picking the option to make it a better combat ship seems like the right choice here. (Might be different if this was a Federation ship but this is before that era)

The next ship after this is going to be a more exploratory/cargo hauling ship, because this is a military vessel, we need to build a non-military one.

On the other hand how much better off would The Federation have been if it had a dedicated exploration arm and a dedicated military arm instead of a single 'general' mix which always ended up too far one way or the other, leading to all sorts of problems.

Probably worse off because of how often their exploration missions turned into fights and their patrols found weird science shit

That is something up for debate, I personally flip-flop on this issue a lot, and am currently on the side of One United Service. All you really have to think about is how many military problems are solved by S C I E N C E. It happens way more than it should honestly, but that is the universe we are working in.
 
i would think that while the exploratory arm can do every thing, we should also have a standalone military arm that is just that, a military for when things hit that fan.
 
If we have any room for internals at all, I'm thinking we should invest in medical facilities so that ship can do search and rescue.

After all, a successfully interrupted pirate raid will leave survivors, and those survivors might need urgent care.
