Starfleet Design Bureau

We might need to have a runoff vote. Because it's 111 split for either Skate or Hummingbird, and 139 for all the other names.

Stop: Genocide Apologia is unacceptable on SV.

I'm mixed the Nahuatl origin is cool but at the same time... an alien civilization wondering what the name means and looking into the culture it comes from... is not the first impression I want humanity to have.

To me the Aztecs were pretty much the one time in my mind in history where a European nation helps destroy a civilization and I end up thinking it was a okay outcome.

I get than modern Nahua speakers don't do anything like that, but the imagery is from that era tied to warriors and things so...

It is not acceptable to apologise for a genocide. This post has been infracted.

[X] UES Skate

I like fish names like this one. And if they do end up getting attached to the underside of stations, the name makes me imagine a school of skates emerging from under a reef.

Its just in this case the Skates have Very Big Teeth and an attitude like a chainsaw.

I know it's early but in the long run I would love for an engine upgrade cycle to give these ships a tail of some kind. Both hummingbird and skate work with a narrow tail we can shove a big main engine into.

Rule 2: Don’t Be Hateful

You're not wrong. They were so hated by the other people they oppressed and murdered in the most horrific rituals, that as soon as someone came along who could tip the balance, their days were numbered. The Spanish just got there first and the Aztec's got decolonized by their victims in double quick time.

I recommend you look at the mod post just up the page.

I'm not happy with how this vote was conducted. It really felt like the author waited until their preferred option was in the lead before closing the vote. I would encourage the author in the future to choose a specific time to end the vote to avoid excessive voting time and arguments.

... that feels like you're implying agency and malice to "the author checked and saw a tie."

I do kind of get where he's coming from, to some extent. I think a time limit could really help keep things from spiraling into the sort of page count we've been seeing recently.

Yeah, but the votes are often fast enough I miss entire voting periods just being asleep or busy that day, so I kinda feel it's just a marker of 'we're very passionate and often have 24 hours on the votes that end latenight PST.'.

On one hand I get being annoyed at a looser voting system when there's so many players and competitive votes.

On the other hand it's a ship name, the stakes couldn't be lower.

Yeah sorry I should apologize. I didn't read Sayle's post correctly. I stand by a more closely regulated voting period with a set end time.
