On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

To claim the Hammer is to know Truth.
This is either referring to a secret about runic magic or to a secret of godhood, I'm inclined to go with runes due to the earlier references to Durin.

To know Truth is to spurn Falsehood.
Fairly obvious: this Truth will help whoever claims the Hammer to be freed from some form of trick or magic (possibly Tzeentchian?).

To spurn Falsehood is to know Falsehood.
Once more, fairly easy to understand. By 'releasing' the person that claims the Hammer from the magic/deceit, it allows them to understand what affected them in the first place.

To know Falsehood is to understand the Self.
I'm not to sure with this part. I'm going to assume that it means something along the lines of 'this lie is so deeply intrenched into your mind that it has become part of you'. I'm not super confident with that though.

Edit: Hope this helps in some way.

[X] [Courage:] Right

Where our first pick was the experience of old age, this is the boldness of youth. The ability to turn off your silly fears and anxieties for a moment to tackle the challenge you secretly know yourself to be ready for. Pushing your limits, eventually followed by mortification about the danger you just tackled and succeeded at, is a classic step towards growth.

I find it funny that after I realized that this trial will be about fear, Soul rolls the numbers and then post the chapter. Timing I will say.

Losing out on the Hammer is a shame, but even if we do? Well, this is an entire complex built by Thungni himself, apparently using Runes of such potency as to injure dozens of the Gift Giver's Hearth Guard, Living Ancestors one and all. Just outside we've firsthand evidence that Thungni has somehow affected the speed of time within an enclosed space, imagine what's within."

He pauses, letting the others ruminate on that thought before he turns around fully to give them all a grim smile.

"So I'll console myself with picking this place apart and learning every scrap of knowledge that I can."
HAH! I like him!

Whether we pass or fail the trials, I wonder if we'll get the option to spend actions examining them in depth, as that could be well worth it.

we had scruples about tearing the place apart.

Our colleague does not seem interested in preserving it for posterity.

So, the "take everything you can carry" approach is legit.

We're looting the place afterwards.

If the rune requires you to have complete understanding of yourself then it is the worst teaching tool in the history of teaching tools. Also that is just a terrible thing to have to do in the middle of combat. I presume no one is using teaching tools on you in the middle of a fun romp so you now have to guess what's the funky rune interacting with a fear effect and what's adrenaline. All in all for the purposes of gaining insight center is a bad rune and it should feel bad. :V
It also has the natural causes clause, which means that someone scared of judgement during an assessment be it rune based or like military drill, then just suddenly becoming twice as strong as they normally would doesn't really help much.
