On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

I wonder what happened to Brynna that turned her hair black? Definitely a weird side effect from her experiment failure.

Also I like how the new smelter design is trying to reduce the dragonblood cost. That was definitely unsustainable in the long run and hopefully the new ones can be built to reuse the blood or at least something that can be made via akazit otherwise the expansion plans might not have enough dragons around to fuel it.

Regen related I think - if some of her hair got blown off then quickly regrown, it might not come in 'old'.

Probably something to keep her relevant considering the north and dawi in general have a lot of enemies and Brynna is not able to really do much beyond holding the line.

It isn't a secret that Yorri holds a great deal of distaste for the path you're taking and you can understand full well why he would, but at the same time it's a path you were committed to. The power and possibilities afforded by tapping into the Monoliths was immense, and you didn't need to look far for supporting evidence either. Barak Azamar was the crux, without the energy your armour brought to bear the Ash Storm would be far less deadly, and your more potent Runes usable far less frequently.
Honestly can't blame Yorri since the Monoliths are pretty serious stuff.

Ogra told you her Ancestor had done what he did out of greed and pride, without proper forethought or respect for the forces he was playing with. You were different.

On the other hand, a voice in the back of your mind asks if Ogra's Ancestor had thought the same, as did every other Dwarf who attempted the very same and subsequently died with nothing to show for their efforts.
This is a good thing to keep in mind, sure Snorri isn't intending to do this out of greed but being wary of it and pride is important. We shouldn't be playing around with this stuff until the risk is pretty much the same as the other Runesmithing Snorri does unless stuff gets really serious.

So as part of your plan to prove that you are not a hermit, you've begun coming to your former students' monthly get-togethers. A little tradition they made that originally began when Snerra, Fjolla and Dolgi finished a hard day's training and unwound over dinner and a few drinks before bed, that's now grown into a dinner all of their immediate families, Nain and Karstah, and now every so often, you.
Nice to see Snorri getting out more.

A grunt of understanding.

"Till you see, and then you remember."
They're missing eyes from experiments buddies now.

"Nine apprentices is more than enough," You tell her, "Maybe if a youngster with true promise rears their head and somehow goes unnoticed. Khazagar and the duties therein are more than enough on my plate. It's up to you lot to continue this particular lineage now Fjolla."
Yeah I don't think the thread really wants anymore Apprentices and Khazagar more than fulfills any impulse to teach.

As for the others…

…you recall Jargrim grumbling about not practicing pocket gravel on his future students when he thought you were out of earshot once.

Hmmm…
Looks like he's going down memory lane.

While you let yourself descend into regaling Fjolla with stories about the particulars of raising dragons, a part of your mind meanders down the path of memories that thinking about Jargrim brought to the surface. Not so much actively recalling snippets and points of pride, but merely going over whatever came up with a forlorn fondness.

One day.

One day you'll meet them all again.
When you get down to it Snorri is a Dwarf who's lost so much and will loose so much more with time. But he keeps on going and improving because he feels like he owes it to those he lost, with time he felt he owed it to the young who became his response and with even more time he came to feel like he owed it to himself. But even then with all his growth deep down a part of him will always want to rest and see those he has lost.

"And be more quiet, or use better metaphors! Everyone else here is either too young, drunk or busy to have heard, but this Dwarf has working ears!"

They can only stand, silently mortified, and watch as the Gift Giver returns to the dining room, his cackles cutting off when the door shuts behind him.
Nice to see Snorri giving advice to the youth and enjoying himself.

Eh, don't feel too bad. Getting to look at the Sisters and Snorri's interaction was hella good.

Seeing Snorri firmly in denial about his hermit ways is also Funny.
Snorri denying he's a Hermit will never get old.

Karstah barely notices the grunt from Dreng, but she does catch the target of the grunt in question, a gaggle of Runesmiths walking the opposite direction towards her, move aside to let her and the elder pass, standing by and nodding respectfully to her as she moves past them. She nods back out of habit, her mind busy with the duties she's been given and with one in particular taking up most of her musing.

It's great that Karstah already has enough auctoritas and dignitas that other Runesmiths are giving way to her and nodding respectfully to her, and that this apparently occurs so regularly that Karstah barely notices it any more ("nods back out of habit").

Course, I didn't eat much of anything except water and stonebread until the windfall from the finished commission was given to me afterwards.

Is this even possible? Don't Dawi turn into stone if they don't drink alcohol on a regular basis?

Shame that Snorri seems to have sworn off apprentices now. Would have been nice to pick that back up as a regular activity down the line.

With our current short/mid term plans? Even the possibility of adding more apprentices only opens up after quite a bit of time passes.

Also Snorri's parting shot to thos ladies had me smiling. Embarrasing the youth truly is an Elder's pasttime.

Given the number of things on Snorri's plate plus the presence of many worthy Snorri-apprentices who are now Masters (plus one Runelord) in their own right and capable of taking Apprentices themselves, there would have to be another Snerra-level talent for it to be worth Snorri's while to accept a new apprentice.

Or a particularly sorry case that breaks his heart.

Or a dragon interested in runesmithing.

There's gonna be many, many pointed questions about the parentage of a dragon who turns out to have the bloodline of Thungni running through the dragon's veins.
The logical answer is that Thugni is not dead and throwing curvballs at young beardlings who think they know everything about everything.

Or that deep magic is deep magic. And a dragon steeped in it will be able to runesmiths.

The way she speaks reminds me of Snorri's "smith mode".

Or she's related to the axe and armor karstah was researching.

I really love how Storri becomes more social as the story goes on, more outspoken!

Though I wonder, did I miss something or is this kind of like what happened before the war against fimir? Weren't we marching against them? Also, in regards to that, I hope we get recognized at least, or something along the lines of "As expected of Lord Klausson".

Also, I find it quite weird how our amazing thor-like powers were never mentioned by the new southern arrivals, or do the ancient runelords of the southern holds can output much more power and influence in the battlefield than Storri?

Whether they could learn runes is completely immaterial to whether they'd be allowed to learn runes. The answer to which is no, out of the question. It'd be outright heresy. The rules and strictures about who can learn runecraft are very clear and explicit.
