On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

For what it's worth I personally don't want to pay for research we can do that when ever but I really want structural runes all the runes.
Agreed, especially since she can probably provide research assist procs on those precise things if we don't finish them now.
And when are we going to ever get to doing Stacking and Fixing research? In 30 turns? We've got far more things that are higher priority.

Fixing of things and Storage of things require 9 and 8 actions respectively. Doing them would take at least 2 full turns of doing nothing else. Probably more like 3 turns.

I'd rather get the research done with this trade so that we can finally see what's behind these initial research.

Runelord has a choice between choosing the short term gains, practical solution, and learning more runes.

To me, it's an obvious choice.

This is weird now that it's happened twice, extra apologies.

Rune of the Anti-Rune: When actived other nearby runes have their affect diminished.

Did it just to see if it was possible. I worry though, about the day I'll need it.
Hrmm. In concept, perfectly acceptable. Stowed away for a Research reward.
Rune of Flaw-Seeking: While not particularly impressive or powerful at first glance, this rune guides the user's blows subtly, such that their strikes find their way into the enemy's weakpoints and vitals with uncanny accuracy. Quarrels that find their way into a foe's eye sockets or gaps in a dragon's scales, blades that seek out vital organs and exploit even the tiniest imperfections in armour. Though this rune does not enhance the strength of its wielder's blows, it ensures that every blow is more likely to wound greviously or kill outright, as long as there is a weakness that can be exploited. (more likely to inflict critical hits/strike weak points)

Rune of Warding Blows: The inverse of the above rune, armour imbued with this rune guides its wearer's movements subtly. Blows that would injure or inflict shallow cuts instead become glancing hits or miss by a hair's breadth. The effectiveness of this rune is limited, and depends on the wearer's agility and reflexes. (Negates/mitigates glancing blows/scratch damage, ineffective against attacks that would have done heavy/lethal damage. Works better with lighter armour?)

Master Rune of Simmering Grudges: Just like a rockslide gains momentum and mass as it progresses downslope, this rune gradually accumulates power to unleash all at once upon deserving targets. (Starts off having very little effect, but against targets of a grudge, the longer standing the grudge, the more powerful/destructive this rune becomes)
Flaw Seeking and Warding Blows: A lot of these effects already exist in Weapon Runes we already came up with I think.
Simmering Grudge: Effect is fine, but its impact for eternal Grudges like Chaos, Greenskins or Skaven would not scale. I'm limiting this to personal Grudges and not Realm-wide ones.

Also once again im cutting off submissions for Weapon and Talismanic Runes.

(Master?) Rune of Troglodytic Rivers: Deep in the earth and rock, over the ages, underground bodies of water carve great channels and caves throughout the underground world, inhabited as it is by monsters. This Rune makes use of that effect by granting it to the wearer of this talisman, over time taking more and more skill, stamina and vigor from the enemy even as the bearer remains (comparatively) whole and hale.

Few Dwarfs like to acknowledge that in the long run, water wins over stone. Few...but not none.

Rune of Bronze: Aside from giving a possibly aesthetically pleasing bronze sheen to whatever bears this Rune, the item becomes resistant-to-immune to all corrosion and other forms of decay. It is not an absolute defense, the natural corrosion of age will not touch it but Chimera poison may or may not depending on a bevy of factors, for instance.

While most often taught as an Armor Rune for various reasons, variants good for tools and weapons have been disseminated.

Rune of the Undertow: Projectiles of various sorts are dragged down or tossed aside with all the force of a great bit of wood trapped in the mighty currents that flow underneath the surface of water. The strength of the force affecting the projectiles varies with the strength of the projectile launched, growing more effective the more force it was launched with.

A more niche, but not useless, equivalent to the Rune of Warding.

Alright hopefully I did the math right Both Plans buy MSmedinir's bounty and MThungi's Brilliance. Both have 2 hesitance. Plan 1 gets max research progress and buys MTriage with +1 standing (6 standing total). Plan 2 only gets enough research to finish Pt 1 of Repair and Fixing and drops Triage to get +3 standing instead (8 standing).

Edit: Plan 3 is the same as plan 2 but drops ordinary stone and guard tower for MTriage.

think I will go for the max research plan since I want to get as much progress possible done on those research tree so we can get as much done as we can on them so the next part of the tree will requrre less effort to futher down the tree on. Also I am pretty excited by both these tree and we already saw some of the pot of it in updoot how a narrow crack in the wall became much much larger. All together want to get as much progress on that as we can imo on these

The general Dawi culture to hoard and not pool rune knowledge has always frustrated me. As has the Rule of Pride and the absolutism of the Rule of Form and Rule of Three. But assuming they come from Thrungi, I do assume they have a rational reason beyond 'because I said so'. I imagine mishandled Runes are quite dangerous. I do wonder how he figured all this out without dying in an arcane fireball.

Does stacking Master runes or remaking them somehow draw the ire of the Realm of Souls? Did Thrungi do some advanced mathematics and deduce that it would be impossible no matter how durable something is, like how a full scale ring world would exceed the tensile strength of matter itself, and as such it would be a massive waste of time?

These rules exist, and as frustrating as I sometimes find them, there's gotta be reason. The Ancestors haven't steered us wrong before. I wonder what a hypothetical DAOT Humanity equivalent of Dawi kind would know of Runes, and if they would have concrete reason for the Rules.

mainly all those rules were more of monkey see monkey do, or more like monkey not see, monkey not do. They only do what Thungni has done or not done, so he only has shown items with at most 3 runes so probably 3 is the hard limit, or he only does master runes rarely and never with same combo before so that is probably a rule. etc etc.

No material we know of exists that can support more than one Master Rune. And Master Runes are highly energetic. Remember how Snorri and the Brotherhood of Dron members blew themselves up and got knocked unconscious while developing the improved Adamant smelters?

I wouldn't be surprised if Master Rune research is among the top leading causes of Runesmith deaths.

And the Rule of Pride is meant to force innovation instead of stagnation.

Because Dwarfs are a very conservative race and can easily end up in a situation where they become too comfortable doing the same Runes over and over again.

The Rule of Form is "That's not how Runes fucking work." We see this come up with the MR Waking talk, in that you can't plug and play Runes. Much like how you can't plug and play a lot of things. I suspect it's no different from how enchanting a sword isn't how you enchant armor, and you get different results.

The Rule of Three is "You can break this on a theoretically tough enough material, but we have yet to find one, and there is a society dedicated to fixing that. Slowly." See, Adamant. Not good enough yet, but. We're working on it.

The Rule of Pride meanwhile is an objective progress driver to figure out more about runes, figure out more Runes, and generally a pusher forwards. It is effectively a tool for progress.

They are passed down by Thungni like we have the Laws of Newton. Not like arbitrary decrees, but the first two are like that. The third is arbitrary, but absolutely crucial for going into the future.

As for DAOT humanity of the Dawi?

We're in it. We're in the Golden Age. This is it. This is what we know. Congrats. Welcome to magic.

I think they did it themselves they just never bothered to share

[X] Plan Max Research with Smednir and Thungni, +1 standing

[x] Plan: It's all about structure

[X] Plan: Don't stress Snorri during the construction of Rune U

[X] Plan Aquisition at Maximal Efficiency

I really like the Rune of the Guard Tower and this is the only plan where I can possibly get it. I want our lecture halls to be impractically massive that could hold all the runesmiths in the north. I want our competition arenas to be the same. While I'm sure the sound could be addressed with skilled masonry, they're still not going to be able to see without it.

Getting to Standing 8 is more important than getting max research. Get just enough for getting the current stage done for Fixing and Stacking Runes.
