On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

Update on the Thunder Caller Gronti idea with these new materials and new thoughts;

-The Thunder Caller-
Master Rune of Waking(Dragon Ogre Shaggoth Heart)
Rune of Lightning(Dragon Ogre Blood)
Rune of Empowerment

-Hammer
Master Rune of Thunderbolts(Shaggoth Blood)
Rune of Grungni(Oathgold)
Rune of Fury

-Talisman
Master Rune of Grungni
Rune of Lightning(Dragon Ogre Blood)
Rune of Spelleating(Dragon Ogre Blood)

A 12 meter tall Gronti made entirely of Lodesteel. Being made completely of Lodesteel, a magnetic material, should enhance its electrical abilities.

The Hammer would have a shaft of Dronwut and be littered with Dronrils as decoration.

The Talisman should be perfect for copying the Lightning absorption of Dragon Ogres. The MGrungni's ability to absorb and repurpose magic, the Rune of Lightning giving direction on what to absorb, and the Rune of Spelleating to bring it together. Also the Rune of Spelleating we used when we finished our workshop in Turn 5 needed Dragons Blood so I figure Dragon Ogres Blood would be a good way to change the rune for the Talismans intended purpose. The primary materials being Dronwut, Dronril, and Lodesteel
Edit: Made some additions to the Talisman.
With the revelation about how gronti are better the more anatomically accurate they are have you considered adding an artificial vascular system filled with Zhufazul?, you could forge the heart out of adamant and put the MWaking on it to increase its strength.

Great chapter, soulcake, nice to see our apprentices coming along and the new material is interesting. Not enough to dissuade me from my goal to see the Valkyries wearing gromril chain though.

This could be the key to unlocking a self-sustaining supply of Gronti. If we make our Gronti really anatomically accurate, like, really anatomically correct, and build our Gronti in "male and female" pairs, our original sets of Gronti can make more of themselves * wink wink nudge nudge *

I love these new mats. We really do need to research them soon though. It's reaching that point where we are wasting the potentials of our big workings (not that we have any coming up soon, but still) by not knowing the benefits all our new mats can give us (looking at you Silver Wutroth).
I just realized. The Dwarfs are going to fucking love the Dronwut. The main reason they love Wuroth so much is because it's the only wood that they know of that can match up to Stone. Well the Dronwut is more Stone than wood. It does drive the question on who would work the material, the Carpenters, or the Masons.
People are ridiculously overhyping this new wood.
If it has the physical properties of granite then that means that its appropriate as a replacement for anything we'd use granite for and is no longer useful for anything that we use wood for but not stone, such as:
  1. Weapon and Tool hafts, which use woods combination of strength and relatively low density
  2. Anything involving woods flexibility such as bolt throwers.
  3. Furniture that is carpented and not produced by the stone mason guild.
Don't get me wrong this is a nice niche item and I'm sure it will have its useful but we haven't replaced Wutroth as we're missing the principle charactaristic that means dwarves value it more than other hardwoods.
Article:
Yet for all of its strength, this wood keeps moist for a long time and thus can be shaped like willow or ash into bows, shields, canopies and other curved structures.[2a]

The moisture is important for keeping it flexible and easily shaped. Neither of these are characteristics of the new wood.
Cheers, mate. I appear to have summoned another update, too, which is cool
Post another, see if lightning strikes twice. ;)
Hey, don't think anyone's mentioned it but. What is this?
1/2 probably indicates that its ready to begin 2/2 which is using the items we've prepared to build the new hold.
i have two questions first is why didn't we get an epic deed or legendary deed for building an entire city? second is grimmir a ginger ?

personally I think Durin is Yorri him self . I mean when they talked it felt more as equals then an elder and a junior almost like estranged brothers . Alric may have had orders from Thungi his father to request Yorri to come to the conclave , if it were any one else they would be obliged to fallow Alric let alone Thungi himself but as his son he can defy him . I think there was an event where he lost his family and apprentices in the past that made him feel unworthy .
Honestly if Yorri was Durin, then I'd have expected him to have much higher bonuses when fighting Kholek.

The world isn't that big. Not many more places left unless we come up with a much faster way to travel.
Remember this?

Ignore the specifics of geography, this is more to highlight the spread of dwarf holds/colonization.
I won't get too into the specifics of time, but the order of colours is

Blue > Green >Red >Yellow >Black.

If I had to timeline it, you're in the early stages of the yellow phase.

Again, this is more to demonstrate how I imagine the dwarf migration/colonization occurred. So take of that what you will.
Dwarf colonization isn't over. The dwarfs haven't yet reached the Mountains of Mourn like they did in canon, and they might go even further this time.
We could definitely go exploring the Mountains of Mourn if we felt like it (and if @soulcake is willing to make the worldbuilding for it).

The Rune possesses the ability to animate body and form only when given a proper framework for movement, be it conceptual or actual.
I'm waiting for Snorri to build a motorcycle with the Master Rune of Waking.

Because there's no sound that comes close to the sound of Snorri's retainers driving over everything, using their runelord crafted *insert name*

Why would you ever want to settle the moving mountains.

Holy shit guys, we live in a place where it can blizzard in July. We are playing Dwarf Santa.

HOW IN HELL HAVE WE NOT BUILT SNORRI A SLEIGH YET???
A magical Battle Sleigh pulled by a gryphon that wields Azyr. With a bag of hand-crafted toys in one hand and Zharrgal in the other, he's making a List. He's checking it twice (he's not a foolish beardling, after all!). He will know whether you were naughty or nice. And when he comes to give you your present, he doesn't give the naughty ones coal. Instead, he wakes them up in the middle of the night, Zharrgal on fire to illuminate his stern, disappointed glare. He doesn't even say anything. He just glares until you're shivering from terror. Then he extinguishes Zharrgal, vanishing into the darkness with nary a sound, like a ghost.

Tesla-punk dwarves? We could pre-empt steam punk and go for railguns/ECM levi-craft/and lasers instead of Thunderer, gyro copters and cannon?

Eh, the aesthetic does not sound neat, but its a matter of preference i guess. But the opportunity to craft Mjollnir draws ever closer.

I'm kinda meh about Mjollnir as a flying hammer, but if this is a design with MThunderbolts can we finally get around to researching Kholeks brain so we can make a T5 with it?

So the Dronil that we found+sun eaters brain seem to be good lightning materials for either an new amulet or a new weapon... Holy crap we can make Thor's storm breaker axe from Avengers!

Thinking of making better Gronti, apart from improving the rune I wonder if they'd be better if they we're more anatomically accurate rather than being a homogenous lump underneath the sculpted armour. For example, forging the bones and individual muscles and ligaments, each with their own Rune of Waking, and then crafting a central heart with the Master Rune. We'd need some way to link the runes together, likely a derivative of the Rune of Direction, but that could be a very effective way of maximising the amount of adamant applied.

Given that multi-part runic armours exist, we might not even need to rune the individual parts, although experimenting with mega-sets like this might be interesting.

Getting high Standing with the Cult of Valaya so they teach us dwarf anatomy would be helpful with this though.

It doesn't necessarily need to fly. Just absorb and shoot actual lightning. Because yeah, we have got essentially huge batteries with the dronril gems going on. So hopefully, it would be possible to like, lead any excess charge from the hammer strikes (or ongoing storm, like a lightning rod) via the haft of the wood we just discovered, into the dronril gems on armor (just craft entire set for this tbh) and then, provided the gems can also discharge, use it to shoot lightning as Thor from the movies does. Not just throwing piddly thunderbolts (or at least, if there was a mention of the thunderbolts being as strong as the atmospheric phenomena, i did not grok it), but actually absorbing the tremendous power of living lightning itself and shooting it at our leisure. Guess we will see if this is viable when we research the materials further. And then see if it is desirable :V

What kind of beardling would have excess charge from hammer strikes?

Might wanna further research the MThunderbolts too, especially in tandem with Dronril or Dronwut.
Eh, there will always be more research to do but a extremely action expensive understand MThunderbolts isn't really worth it unless we have other reasons to expect we'll use that Rune a lot.
Personally the best thing we should do for a MThunderbolts weapon is decide what our combo will be, and then what reagents we'll be applying to enhance it.

So Kholeks brain is an obvious improvement over Shaggoth Blood, although blood -> brain will probably cause some divergent effects ontop of the power up so researching that to anticipate them would be a good idea. However if we don't want to invest that on this then we should be able to order Elder Storm Dragon blood relatively easily or we can try and use the Shaggoth brains and hearts we've already got.

I also want to know how people think we could combo this with the rest of our items because the fire/earth/lightning combo always sounded shaky to me and its even if it does work, I don't see how we could expand it into a 5 item combo that we'd eventually like to have.
(into greek and then taoist element groups? but taoists don't have an equivilant for air. Also basing this on a concept that its not even clear exists in the WHF universe...)

Doing a bit of clean up, I added this to the "gain" section:

- Chamon textbook read! Options unlocked! You now have some sort of understanding about these so-called Winds of Magic. Well, understanding might be stretching it, more like that you know they exist and have an inkling of an idea about how one of them works in some fashion. To know anymore you're either going to have to wait for Valma to deliver her future texts or do a bit of work yourself.

EDIT: also updated Available Requests here.

"He's completely funded the entire thing hasn't he?" Igna says, sipping from her mug calmly.

Valka blinks, and that seems to be enough to get the Runelord to realize just how on the mark she was.

"Yes, and more actually," she eventually replies, "How did you...?"

"Know? Not like it's a secret. You've been here long enough to have at least heard of the name folk have for him."

"The Gift Giver aye," she admits, "I suppose so, but I never expected…"

"The level of commitment? The resources brought to bear? The almost single-minded focus he appears to give?" Igna supplies helpfully.

"Yes," she confirmed, "That."

The Runelord only hums and takes a long swig from her mug. Valka watches her put it down and wipe the foam off the top of her lip before she speaks again.

"You've only ever experienced Klausson when he was quite literally tearing his way through Dum. Isn't that far fetched to think he'd be just as ...intense, in other pursuits?" Igna asks.

"Hmmph, there are similarities and there's this. He's given me timetables, contract orders, a sworn oath to give every Dwarf in my hold a piece of Runic equipment and the oaths of several Guildmasters and Thanes to devote a non too inconsiderable amount of time vetting the skill and shoring up any deficiencies among the hold's artisans. Nevermind the oath he managed to get King Otrek to swear. It's...too much, but I can't refuse! It's all I need and more! To waste it would put us back decades, maybe more, if we tried to collect all of this on our own. If I hadn't seen him quite literally save my people I'd think he's drowning us in debts purposefully."

"Well, you're right about the drowning part. Welcome to the reality of working with the man who literally gave away enough Rune inscribed Gromril weapons to outfit every Dwarf, elderly and children included, in his Hold, and then did it a second time without batting an eye when the Incursion hit. The Dwarf who cut down the timetable on Kraka Drakk's Underway by at least a third on his own and built, alongside a whole host of other things, a Gronti to help with the rest. If I hadn't realized early on that Klausson seems to treat politics like he would the work of a thirty-year-old engineer I'd be far more worried about the effort he's putting into not only the Hold, but Clan Metalheart as well."

"He's aiding you as well?"

"Aye, I've gotten letters from dozens of Runesmiths who have the time to take on an apprentice willing to at least see those among the Clan with The Gift, before I even sent out a missive. It's not hard to put two and two together when a good three-quarters of those letters came from Kraka Drakk. A Hold whose Runesmith community can be summed up as, 'trying to be Klausson and failing.' "

"All this effort seems...wasted on us. Not that I'll complain but surely there are other things that could use the effort?"

Igna shrugs.

"Maybe to you, I and many other Dawi, but Klausson has decided differently. Ancestors, his retainers spend more of their time out helping others than they do guarding him. So it could very well just be he simply wants to. Who's to say? The Elder's an enigma wrapped in a mystery and one I've long since stopped trying to seriously decipher his intent."
And Snorri demonstrates, once again, that the value of wealth is not in how much you can horde it, but in how much you can do with it. Keep up the good work Gift-Giver and befuddle all who come across your deeds!
