Walpurgis Night is an event/class of witch isn't it? They constantly talk about it as if it's a class of hurricane. It's named that way because a Walpurgis Night is a witch attack so powerful it requires a team of Magical Girls to defeat, a gathering of 'young witches'.

It's why Homura could never beat it. You simply can't on your own.

Homura couldn't.

Sabrina's a different story, as she can make all sorts of crazy Grief constructs.
Walpurgis can stand up to conventional weapons and explosions.

But can Walpurgis Night stand up to...

THIS?

Yes. I don't think you quite understand how big Walpurgisnacht is. That thing make skyscrapers look tiny. A mecha of that size is going to be like a fly to it. Not to mention that it also outranges us tremendously and uses physical attacks, so even Sabrina, with all her tremendous witch killing powers, is not going to be able to just steamroll it.

On the other hand, if we're sufficiently shielded/well protected, we can essentially eat it.

And the familiars...dear god the beam spammy familiars.

Bah.
We have a 100 meter radius. We can make a mecha that size if we want.

Think Jaeger or Evangelion sized.
Hmmm...
Ideas...

Our Jaeger isn't bogged down by silly things like 'mass' or 'gravity' due to bullshit Grief manipulation. Even still, we need a ranged weapon...

We still have what, a month before it comes? Should be enough time to get some SCIENCE! done.

Now I'm regretting agreeing to have anything to do with Asunaro. If Firn had declared it non-canon I would have been more than happy. But that science... outweighs the huge risks. Ye gods, if the Saints are still a going concern we're going to have our work cut for us even trying to talk to them. *facepalm* Why did they kidnap MG's passing through again? I feel dumber from just having read this. That would be the high risk high reward scenario since we get the talk directly to science girl. If the Saints have wiped themselves out then things become much safer but correspondingly less rewarding, we talk to the surivors, they won't come to Mitakihara unannounced as some people were saying and we might find something useful, like dead science girl's journal.

Wait, Mami knew Kazusa didn't she? That could lead to some interesting conversations with Kazumi. You think it might be a social link for Mami, getting to know Kazumi again without whatever led to their seperation hanging over the relationship? Only Mami would remember and could view it as a second chance at friendship. Could be good for her mental health. It could be a test run for fixing the Kyouko issue, making Kazumi friendly to Mami would be much easier than Kyouko. I have a feeling Mami will need as much support for resolving that pickle as possible.

Mami: What is it with people I know and amnesia? *sobs*

Oh shit, found a serious problem with NSMS' revised vote.

We are just cleansing soul gems with this line. What are the effects of only cleansing soul gems to outside powers? Its not a natural jump from cleansing gems to cleansing seeds. Sabrina is reduced from a national level player to a regional one. I was originally thinking this would be good but upon further thought it could cause some big problems. If Ueda and Fukushima spreads word of us then this will not create demand for grief seeds like I originally posted, but demand for Sabrina herself.

If you were a random MG in one of the big city groups and heard there was someone who could cleanse gems in her general proximity, then you'd want her in your city. People have been saying many lone wolfs would come to Mitakihara for cleansing, but they haven't considered the effects it would have on the bigger groups. We could be a great unifer of meguca... against us. For example, say word from Ueda passes to the other Tokyo groups, that could get them to unite into a coalition and decide to pay a visit to Mitakihara. They'd politely ask Sabrina to move to Tokyo, offer to pay for transportation and housing out of their own pocket, offer protection from outside threats etc. And if we don't come, well there's fifty meguca here who wouldn't like that. Even we couldn't fight our way out of that, we'd need a Homura massacre but even thats not certain, the more MG's come, the more likely theres a hard counter to her time powers.

I don't see this as a short term threat, but it could easily be a medium term one. We need to defuse this before Oriko sees this in the horizon, prevention is the best cure. If foreign MG's were assured there was some range to Sabrina's abilities aka cleansing grief seeds then we would avoid this. Its a really messy situation, increased demand for seeds or more threat to Mitakihara.

So either vote for NSMS' original vote before the revision or vote for Cannongerbil's vote. In CG's one, the favours we accrue among the many MG groups could be used as a stick to keep people from trying to take Sabrina for themselves. E.G. If the Tokyo girls unite and try to take us, the Osaka and Kyoto girls tell them to back down. If many people are indebted to us, then it will be a deterrent for any coalition (internal or outsiders) to try and take us.
The reason I'm not worried about this: trying to make a grief-controller cleanse your gems by force is plain stupidity if you think about it for even a few seconds. Either (a) they'd have done it anyway, so force is unnecessary, (b) they crush or steal your gems rather than cleaning them, or (c) you have to kill them when they refuse, thus robbing you of a valuable resource that might have helped you anyway. And if you try to force cooperation by threatening allies then at best you'll have a situation where they're constantly on the look out for a way to kill you and save the people you're threatening. Not to mention that every other meguca group will be after you for monopolising such a valuable resource.

Also, before it becomes a medium term threat we could easily just go 'oh, I forgot to mention that I can clean grief seeds too'.

"We've Got Hostiles" pt. 40
"Got them," you answer Chouko. "Akiko's de-gemmed and Sakura's captive." A thought starts Akiko's Soul Gem moving back to you - you figure that's safe enough, since Akiko won't wake up until you actually touch the Gem to her, anyway.

"Good. That's... good," Chouko says, sounding relieved. "Where are you right now?"

"Near one of the big radio towers," you say. "The one with the, the kinda bulge near the top." Akiko's Soul Gem halts in the air before you, and you pluck it from the air, before slipping it into your pocket to clink against the others. The motion draws looks from Noa and Mami.

"We'll come over," Chouko replies.

You blink. Well, you were going to suggest that. "Yes, OK. Umm... if you can, pick up any of Hamasaki's group's bodies?"

"What?"

"Are you planning on leaving them down?" you ask tartly.

A pause. "No..." she says, reluctance hanging off the tone.

"Collect their bodies, and we can discuss what to do with them at least?" you suggest.

A longer pause. "Very well," Chouko replies.

"OK," you say.

You glance at the Tokyo girl. She's standing very still, and apparently trying to make herself as unobtrusive as possible, her eyes still watching you carefully. "Miss Ueda," you say. "Please stay for a moment? We're discussing how to proceed."

Noa nods quietly, eyes flicking to Mami and Kirika, then back to you.

"Mami," you say, catching her attention. Golden eyes flick to you, a warm smile rising to her face despite the rain still pelting down. You return the smile. "I'm thinking... we bring everyone to the radio tower and discuss our next move? And maybe we can get Sakura to help collect everyone?"

Mami purses her lips, drumming her fingers against the barrel of her musket. She seems to struggle with herself for a moment, before seeming to steel herself. "I... don't think we should bring Miss Tachibana in," she says hesitantly. "I... I'm sure she'd make the process quicker? But I don't think Miss Tsubaki would take it well."

You nod. "OK," you say simply, still smiling at her. You... for all that you've known Mami for a week, you've a lot to make up to her. For all that you've maybe been alive for all of a week, you have a lot to make up for.

Still. Thoughts for later. Always later.

Mami looks relieved, her smile returning, a skittish, eager to please thing. "It's a good idea... what are we going to tell Miss Tsubaki and her friends?"

"They... just want their lives back," you say, sighing. "The sticking point is Hamasaki, who..."

"There's something wrong with her," Mami says slowly, her face sliding into a troubled expression.

"Yeah," you agree. "I told you about her whole 'safety, security, commodity' thing, right?"

"You did," Mami says. "It's... strange. I... I'd talk to her, but given the way she was..."

"Yeah," you grumble, huffing out a thoughtful breath.

"Heeeeeey," Kirika chirps at you, turning to direct a grin at you. "You and your oujo decided what to do with Miss Wild Casey here?"

"Wild Casey?" you say blankly. "Sakura?"

She stares at you with her uncovered eye. "You never played Pokémon?"

"Poké... ohhh, gotcha, Abra," you say. "The English version has a different name for it."

Kirika shrugs lightly, still staying alert. "Meh. What're we doin'?"

"Well, I don't think we can let her go yet," you say. "Because, well, she really is a wild Abra. Sorry."

"Eh, 'kay," Kirika says.

You look back at Noa. "Miss Ueda?"

"Yes, Miss Sabrina?" The girl looks up at you. Her twintails, sodden and hanging sadly at her side, slap against her armour at the motion.

"What's your side of the story, anyway?" you ask Noa. "I mean, I know that Hamasaki called you in to discuss aiding her, but..."

Noa shakes her head. "There's not much to say. Miss Hamasaki's helped us in a... minor conflict, before. Almost a year ago? And as I said, she contacted us, saying she might need help in her own conflict, and then about half an hour earlier again, saying she needed us now," she says, before hastily adding, "Sorry."

"I see," you say neutrally. "Well, for my side... My power lets me control Grief. I can cleanse Soul Gems, and I'm willing to offer my services to you and your team, provided you don't use it to assault other magical girls or other... nefarious purposes." You smile self-depreciatingly.

Noa nods, digesting that quietly.

You can feel the University girls on approach, borne aloft by Chouko. Even from this distance, you can see they're burdened down with... a number of extra bodies.

Chouko hovers over the roof, releasing her power's hold over her friends, and they drop gently to the roof, all looking triumphant. Yuko flips a body off her shoulders to drop unceremoniously onto the roof - a girl you don't recognize, dressed in a loose, billowy dress of brilliant red and black. Akiyama Atsuko, you suppose. You prefer Kuvira, really.

The other one, laid more gently on the roof by the Suzuki sisters, is... Yumi's, you guess, from the state of her hands. You have an overwhelming impression of grey - messy grey hair falls over an elaborate, multilayered kimono of a lighter grey. Bands of bright orange trimming our her sleeve and sash are the only splashes of colour on her form - apart from the thick smears of blood from her lacerated fingers, anyway.

Yuko stares at Akiko's limp, trapped form, and a jubilant grin breaks out on her face, one that spreads across the Suzuki sisters' faces. Chouko's eyes are just as satisfied as she surveys Akiko's dangling body. She nods in satisfaction, before transferring her gaze to Noa. "Who are you?"

"I'm Ueda Noa, from North Tokyo," she says, carefully polite, still in that deliberately neutral position. "My negotiations with Miss Hamasaki fell through."

Now that you look more closely at her, there's something about the set of her eyes... she's too controlled. She's not afraid of you, per se? Or she is, according you the same kind of fear a loaded gun receives. Wary, evaluative respect for something you know damned well could kill. Determined to stay on your good side.

Chouko nods cautiously. "OK," she says. "I am Tsubaki Chouko, these are my friends. We... we're fighting Hamasaki."

Noa nods, equally cautiously.

...

"Chouko, what's the damage like?" you ask after an uncomfortable moment passes.

"We're fine," Chouko says, gesturing at herself and the rest of the University girls.

"Ah-" I meant the city "-that's good. How about the city?"

She shakes her head. "Quite bad. It's not just Kuvira - Ramiel did... quite a bit of damage to the buildings, too. I think Kyuubey's going to have quite a job covering this up."

Mami's jaw tightens at the mention of the Incubator.

"By the way, Ramiel isn't actually her name, is it?" Chouko asks.

You shrug. "Nope. It's Koizumi Sasami."

Chouko nods. "Ah."

"Anyway, more important things - I want to see if we can heal any civilians, and grab the rest of the girl's bodies," you say, gesturing at the two on the roof. Speaking of healing, you need to check in on Rin. You reach out telepathically for her. "Rin?" Mami walks to your side, and you shoot her a quick smile, which she returns.

Rin's voice is tired when she replies to you. "Y-yes, Miss Sabrina?"

"Are you a healer too?" Chouko asks curiously. "I'm not even surprised at this point."

"No," you say. "But Rin -Miss Mori- is." To Rin, you say, "Hey, are you OK?"

"Hmm," Chouko says, frowning slightly. "That's... your perogative," she allows slowly. "Can we... settle Hamasaki first?"

"What's going to happen to me now?" she asks quietly.

"Hmm," you temporize. You continue talking to Rin, trying to inject reassurance into your tone. "Nothing, if I have anything to say about it."

"Hmmm," Rin says. Something about how she says it conveys an overwhelming sense of weariness.

Hmmm.

Hmmmm.

That's a nice growing reputation right there.

So, obvious things first... we cannot attempt to just dictate what happens here, seeing as the UG have much more of a stake in this than us. Starting with mentioning how loopy Akiko was acting and suggesting questioning her to figure out what the hell is wrong with her seems like it'd be a reasonable place to begin, but I'm not sure how to phrase it.

We should let Ueda know that, if we keep Sakura from teleporting her back home, we can drive her there pretty quickly unless she prefers roof-hoping.

inb4 Rin was actually the mastermind all along and Akiko was just her unwitting pawn.
Akiko wasn't crazy before she met Rin and coincidentaly took a blow to the head she needed healed...

Right. I suppose first things first we have to get Rin up here.
[] Ask Rin to come to us, if she can, to heal the wounded (if not, ask her where she is and go get her).
[] Ask the UG if the know where the rest of the bodies are (Moe, for example) and ask if they can help you gather the rest.
[] Once that's done, ask Rin what she wants to do, now that the fighting's over.
[] Consult with everyone (own group and UG) on what to do with the Sendai/Fukushima alliance (what happens to them, what order to wake them up in, who might be the most rational to talk to, etc).
This isn't really a complete vote, more of a to-do list, really. This is still stuff that needs to be done.

We should also decide what to do with Sakura; we can't just leave her pinned on the ground indefinitely, and she might be able to shed some light on what's going on with Akiko.

The UG want to settle the Akiko issue first; we need to either do that, or convince them to delay for a bit so we can do other stuff first.

Chouko hovers over the roof, releasing her power's hold over her friends, and they drop gently to the roof, all looking triumphant.
Last time I thought she was physically grabbing onto her friends in order to fly with them. Going by this, she can extend her power to those close by?

Flying races are so happening. Best buddy wants to fly.

"I'm Ueda Noa, from North Tokyo,"
@Cannongerbil are you still taking notes?

"Hmm," Chouko says, frowning slightly. "That's... your perogative," she allows slowly. "Can we... settle Hamasaki first?"
First thing to do is let them know about the state Akiko's in.

We could ask Sakura to give a more detailed account of what exactly is up with Akiko. We tried to do that earlier but we didn't get any specifics because impaitence, ambushes, and other assorted nonsense, so now seems like as good a time as any.
