[x] Yeah...Yeah, she did, but I don't think she expected her to do something like...this either.
[x]It...It seemed like she liked to make these big, elaborate plans...if she waited for us to see her, then she's probably ready for us to go after her right now. And I don't want us to play right into her hands. Please.
[x]I'm just as angry. This is...inexcusable, and we can't let her do this again, but we've got to be careful with how we do this. Homura'll probably want to help.
Edit: Changing to Dirtnap's vote.

[x]Talk to Mami. Carefully. See if she shows signs of blaming herself for what happened.
[x]Sabrina to Homu, are you there? Time for a team conference call between the three of us.

Also, you are giving coobie so much extra work.

Kyubey wandered into his office, if not tired after many long hours of dealing with young girls then at least ready to relax for a few cycles before getting to work again. His job was important and necessary, but even he looked forward to downtime. As much as he was able without significant mental issues, at any rate. But even a creature without true emotions could appreciate the value of rest.

Unfortunately, it was not to be.

Nibey was there, dropping off a literal mountain of data crystals onto his desk. Kyubey looked at Nibey, then at the crystals.

"It is all the information detailing the fire incident at the potential Sayaka Miki's residence," Nibey said. "As well as a record of the coverup procedures. Our superiors are expecting you to look over this incident and give a report within the next two cycles."

"I see."

It looked like downtime was going to have to wait.

****

Kyubey just wants a little relaxation, y'all! Why you gotta keep him on the clock all the time?

[x] "Homura thought she was bad news, but I can't imagine she saw this coming."
[x] "This can't go unanswered, but ... when I talked to Oriko, she seemed calm, lucid. We spotted her at the scene because she wanted to be seen. This isn't a random attack, she's trying to draw us out. Provoke us into reckless action. We'll be expected. Maybe outnumbered. Perhaps Homura would back us up?"

Loosely paraphrasing, just to be contrary.

Also Mami needs a summary of their powers. From what little I've read of Oriko magica, Mami's fight with Kirika went poorly because she was mostly caught off guard by her magic. Anyway yeah, Mami needs to be prepared and we need to inform Homura of the changes in Kirika's powerset.

Plus we still need to tell Homu all this and pass out the memo that she shouldn't bother hiding timestop...

Um we know that Kirika didn't have the same wish conditions here and has different powers than in canon that have to do with anti-magic something. We don't really know for sure what their powers are exactly. Even Oriko we're wildly guessing what her powers are.

She still needs to be informed about what we do know about their powers. Kyubey has confirmed Oriko's precognition but how potent it is, we don't know and we haven't seen an example of Kirika's anti-magic field yet but it's still something we should tell the others to look out for.

So, just catching up to this thread. It's interesting! In the Chinese sense. :p

So, one thing that we really, really need to do is to mount an offensive of some sort against Oriko. Deny her mobility, deny her assets, deny her time to think in general.

Complicating this is that Kirika is a bloody hard-counter to us, because her range is likely to be similar to ours (100m also happens to be the range of our soul gem exactly) and our best abilities count as magical manipulation. I suppose we could just throw raw Grief at them, though...

On a side note - we may be able to form capital-B Barriers out of Grief, with enough practice and looking at how Witches do it.

So, guidelines on attacking Oriko:
  • Always, always have multiple plans going at once. Kirika can only be in one place at a time.
  • Don't use plans expecting them to work. Use them as "guards." For example, telling Homura to go snipe Kirika in school means that the school is safe-ish.
  • We might be able to use her personal connections against her. If we just make her life miserable, that will make things more difficult on her. Ruin her grades! Ruin her parents' jobs so that they come home stressed and strain her life! Get them worried about her safety, make it harder for her to sneak out at night! Anything we can do to force her to spend time on mundane things and not on us.

Ehehe... yeah...

Her parents kind of beat us to the punch on that front.

(And before you ask: her mom died in childbirth.)

Oriko has exactly one connection, and I'd prefer we not try to abuse that connection without the use of a thorough carpet bombing campaign.

So anyone here ever read Dominic Deegan, oracle for hire? He used his foresight skills to quite the advantage, although I do recall how over the top plans missed simple solutions and just being good enough to avoid any traps planned for future attacks as some of the ways to deal with Foresight.

So we can A. Puella Rush Oriko over and over again until this situation is done. Or B. Try to come up with some brilliant counter plan to try and solve all the problems in one fell swoop.

And then there is C. Abuse Homura's Timestop ability and our Grief ability to do everything we can possibly think of in a real time of 1 minute or so?
We can try and drag everyone into Timestop and just plan for hours without any real time passing.

"Your father would be so proud."

:D

Trying to attack her on the mundane front is a utter waste of time once she's contracted.

I assume that Homura's timestop is sufficiently limited that she cannot, for example, stop time now, run here, and blast her to bits, before a second passes.)

('cause if it wasn't she wouldn't have showed up in the first place.)

Spam it with quick cleans so we can stretch a long discution into a very short real time, I also did say 1 minute assuming we do still try and go for her now. Not one second. I don't recall exact timestop time limits though so the millage may very on abusing it.

Direct Intervention pt. 4
"Yeah," you mutter. "Yeah, she does. I don't think she expected Oriko to do anything... quite like this, either."

"If she did, and didn't say anything..." Mami trails off. "But no. If she knows anything about this Oriko, then we need to talk to her."

"Mami, wait." You grab her arm as she shifts her weight to stand. "Oriko... From what I can tell, she likes making these big, elaborate plans. She wanted us to see her. She probably meant to make us angry- and I'm afraid going after her here and now is going to play right into her hands."

"We're not going after her right now," Mami states, shrugging off your arm and rising to her feet. She offers you her hand. "But if Homura knows about her? Then I want to know what she knows. Because this was not acceptable." Her expression is hard, and you can't help but remember that however pleasant she usually is, Mami is a veteran magical girl, who's presumably been in her share of territorial conflicts.

"I'm right with you, Mami," you say, grabbing her proffered hand with a smack of palm meeting palm, and letting her pull you to your feet. "This was utterly inexcusable, and we are not going to let this happen again. Homura will be happy to help, I suspect."

Mami nods firmly, jaw firmly set. "If Oriko is as formidable as Homura seems to think she is, then we're going to need all the help we can get." Her lips compress. "We might want to bring in Masami. And Kyouko... maybe."

You hum noncommitally. "Maybe. We need to be careful about this."

"Homura. Where are you right now?" Mami calls telepathically.

"I am watching over Madoka," Homura responds.

"Good. We'll be there soon," Mami replies. "Come on, Sabrina."

Yeah, got nothing.

Hmmm.

Maybe this is a bad idea but add something like [o]Is she okay? Because, well, Mami's awesome and all that, and she seems more enraged than anything, but Sabrina just saw her come out of a breakdown...

I think we should intervene only/if she escalates; her anger is quite justified here.
Though I think we should try to redirect it as much as possible towards Oriko, and not Homura.
