This has not been tested. What if we accidentally cut off the connection to our soul gem doing this?
I don't think you mean because of the range limit, but anyway that plan would go better with help from Mami, since she's the one that can ribbon-TK things and see where they're going. She'll also likely tell us if Sakura is within a safe-ish 180 meter range of ourselves. (<100m soul gem range + <100m grief range. Or was it 200 for grief?)

What I meant was we haven't tested protecting our gem in a shell of grief. I'm worried doing so can actually cut off the threads of magic that animate Sabrina's body.

I can handle a bloodthirsty reputation. I actually would prefer a reputation that says "When she got annoyed she went nuts and took down Sendai and Fukushima" to the one we have now. Seriously, why not have a rep that says "don't fuck with her, she'll go for the throat"? That would have been fantastic to have ALL through this entire war chapter.
Hey, remember that whole meguca society thing we had planned? That thing doesn't work if Sabrina acts as the bad cop, we need new megucas to trust us when we say we are willing to offer them clean grief seeds and free cleanses, not stay wary of a possible catch. We also need them to trust us enough to actually approach us, and if the rumour starts going around that anyone who pisses us off get splattered, or worse, no one is going to feel comfortable enough to make the possibly risky trip to Mitakihara for cleansing, only to live under a possibly tyrannical witch like meguca who rules her little fiefdom with an iron fist.

This is the goal. We want the moral high ground.

Why? Having the moral high ground doesn't matter to anyone present: The UG will side with us no matter what, Mami and Kirika are with us hell or high water, Rin (at the attack stage of my vote) is either with us or against us, and the rest of Sendai are against us no matter what. There's no one that having the moral high ground appeals to but the voters of this quest, and that's 100% meta rather than IC.

Then we can control that later, once we win. Because nothing about going out there right now or waiting until later will change that we're going to have to fight and we're going to have to dictate terms like a tyrannical witch after we win the fight.

Let's not do the self fulfilling prophecy thing, okay?

Sure. I do give things a chance, even in the vote, but let's be real about this.

We aren't going to budge on coughing up grief seeds for Akiko.
So if things progress, she's going to have to give up demanding grief seeds from the UG.
We've repeatedly told her that we can cleanse soul gems & grief seeds, free, at her convenience. That's pretty much everything we've offered her in our winning votes, so far. Not for a lack of trying, though.
She's rejected that.
So what changes in the current round? We offer her, through appealing to Rin and Sakura, to cleanse soul gems and grief seeds and uhhhhh...

And we're losing patience here with her. Could you kindly explain the scenario where this does not end in a confrontation?

I've already resolved to act by next update. I don't care about attacking or not attacking first. I find it to be something not worth getting hung up about. Waiting any longer is irresponsible and puts us in an increasingly suboptimal position.

And we're losing patience here with her. Could you kindly explain the scenario where this does not end in a confrontation?
Sakura and the others wise up to the fact that if things keep going as it is they will end up in a fight for no good reason, and that fact outweighs their desire to stick with Akiko come hell or high water. Once that happens, they talk to Akiko and try and get her to reconsider, and since they know her better than we do they have a higher chance of succeeding, plus those words won't be coming from an enemy combatant. That should hopefully convince her to drop the grief seed demand or get one of the other members to take the helm.

Also, seriously, no matter what happens, we do not launch the first strike. If they attack us we retaliate with extreme prejudice, but let's not screw this thing up just because we are impatient.

I think I'd want to provoke Sendai into attacking, assuming they don't do so next update. A public offer of protection to the UG/ alliance/ recruitment to Mitakihara I think would be about perfect.

I had a thought before going to sleep: Let's suppose we manage to talk down the Fukushima girls with our counter offer of infinte cleansing over Akiko's seeds, either before a fight erupts or somethow while it's on going and before it gets too heated.

If Fukushima were to accept our offer and throw Akiko's seeds back to her face, that would do... Wonders to her psyque. "Security, Safety, Commodity".

It could happen. But I don't think the leaps that need to happen are very likely. We aren't emphasizing the fight strongly enough to make Rin and especially Sakura or Akiko genuinely fear a recommencement of hostilities. When we spoke to Akiko, did it sound like she was willing to drop the grief seed demand in exchange for what we offered? When we spoke to Sakura, did it sound like she thought she could have any influence on Akiko's demands? If she did, why hasn't she already tried last time we brought it up? And we don't even mention having someone else take the helm.

If the point is to convince Akiko, we need to offer her something she actually wants. If the point is to get Akiko the boot, we need to appeal far more strongly to Why This Won't End Well.

Also, seriously, no matter what happens, we do not launch the first strike. If they attack us we retaliate with extreme prejudice, but let's not screw this thing up just because we are impatient.

We don't screw anything up. Plus it's an order of magnitude less messy to secure a mobility advantage first.

Dragging the entirety of Sendai willingly into a brawl is different from taking down Akiko.

We aren't going to convince the entirety of Sendai to let us take down Akiko by repeating the same things we've already said. Firn has come out and told us that it isn't going to be that easy to undermine her.

Then why not do it now?

This is also a great idea, but again, why not do it now?

A bit of idle pondering: Akiko has some potentially crippling issues, but she's not stupid; she wouldn't have lasted as long as she has if she were. Given everything she's seen Sabrina do so far(Soul Gem snagging, magical girl tracking, long range grief manipulation, SUPERSONIC* DYNAMIC ENTRY), she's probably aware that fighting the Mitakihara crew isn't going to be a wise move, even without the UG backing them up. Given that Sabrina's shutting down her demands for seeds rather thoroughly, I have to imagine she's trying to negotiate with Fukushima to reduce her expenses instead.

Given what we've seen so far, I wouldn't be hugely surprised if she's going to need bailing out soon.

I really can't see how asking the same thing over and over can be considered exhausting everything we can do.

Everything we can reasonably do. We're appealing to Rin and Sakura now, which we've had some success with. It's true, I'm not holding out a lot of hope here but it's not going to put us in a worse position then we already are. After this, yeah I'm at my limit. It does us no good to keep the UG hanging.

We've said this thing to Akiko, not the rest of the Sendai group. Sakura is already mostly convinced by our words, we just need to give her enough of a push to actually take it up with Akiko that she is being unreasonable.
When we spoke to Sakura, did it sound like she thought she could have any influence on Akiko's demands?
Yes, she does have some measure of influence over Akiko, by virtue of being a long time friend, if nothing else. She just isn't exercising any of it because of a)her dislike of us and b) not willing to rock Akiko's boat, who has done alright by her over the years. We just need to push her to start taking action.

I personally don't want to attack them first because we still aren't exactly sure what's with Akiko. I kind of doubt that she has justifiable, sympathetic reasons for her demands, but you never know. I have seen stranger things. Plus, forcibly taking them down can potentially create a lot of headaches for us.

Well there are technically a couple things we can offer her. It's just that most of them, we aren't willing to give.

1.) We could offer to give her some of the grief seeds we collect. It's not like we vitally need them. Of course, most of us would likely see that as appeasement.
2.) We could show her the empty grief seed and offer to do the same with some of their seeds. She knows that we can clean grief seeds, but she might not know how much.
3.) We could offer to help them if they ever get attacked by other enemy meguca.

[jk] Summon MASTER Witch.

Concentrate on your grief marbles,
Mutter tender last words to Mumi,
Aim the grief singularity at incoming hostiles
Now unleash your abomination of love!

2.) We could show her the empty grief seed and offer to do the same with some of their seeds. She knows that we can clean grief seeds, but she might not know how much.
This is actually a very decent option which I seem to recall being brought up once Akiko started on her madness mantra. Why did we vote against it again?

To put it in a way, is will be easier for us if Sendai throws the first stone in this posible future confrontation. Don't rush things when there's still a chance to salvage this.

I get the frustation you all are feeling, okay? Just give this one last shot (because seriously, is the last shot. If Akiko doesn't even hear Sakura/Rin, then we can start worrying)

You sure about that? Because it mostly seems like she's going to side with Akiko no matter what. Someone with sufficient enough skill at social-fu, manipulation, and subtlety can probably pull it off, though.

Can you see why I'm skeptical of our chances?
