[x] To Sakura:
-[x] CALM DOWN! I'll get Rin back, but I can't guarantee it if you pop in right now.
[x] To Akiko:
-[x] Whatever you're thinking of doing right now, stop. Calm down. We'll get Rin back. This can still be resolved peacefully, but I need to be sure that things won't escalate before that.
[x] To University:
-[x] As I'm sure you're aware from your contact with Miss Inoue, we'd like to get this entire mess settled without further bloodshed.
-[x] While I understand the point of taking Rin out of the fight during the combat itself, it's also clear that you don't want to actually kill her.
-[x] As such, can we get her back on her feet while we discuss things? This is likely to take a while, and I don't want her or her body harmed.
-[x] The rest of the Sendai group is staying away for now. You can hold onto Rin as... their spokesperson for this discussion.
[x] If they refuse:
-[x] We're asking it as a gesture of good faith on your part, to mirror ours of bringing the current fighting to a halt.
-[x] We don't want to give Sendai reason to believe that our negotiations here are doomed to fail, causing them to act... impulsively.
-[x] We intend to deal with the extortionate behavior that Sendai has been engaging in, that has been making life difficult for others.
-[x] With our grief manipulation ability, we can largely eliminate grief seed resource issues, rendering the extortion pointless.
-[x] If you have a specific need for Rin and her abilities, we can see about addressing that right now, before we move to the broader discussions.
[x] If they agree:
-[x] Travel as a group to Rin's body and revive her. Preferred method is Sabrina kneeling over her, getting handed the soul gem, and placing the soul gem against Rin where she can see it when she revives.
-[x] Move to an acceptable location for discussions, explain our position, and start getting their story.

I've been convinced.

Hm, that's probably a bit too long, but whatever, good enough for me.

The main problem I can see is that Sendai seems likely to beat us to Rin's body. In fact, they may already have. What do we do if that's the case?

[] CALM DOWN! I'll get Rin back, but I can't guarantee it if you pop in right now.

It'll be funny if Sakura is trying to stay calm and we yell at her like this. We haven't telepathy'd her so we don't actually know what she's about to do or not do. Maybe Akiko's even got things under control over there.

Yeah, was pondering changing the separate Sakura/Akiko tells to a single entry, the way Cannongerbil did. We don't know what Sakura knows yet.

Possibly:
[] To Akiko+Sakura: Whatever you're thinking of doing right now, stop. Calm down. I'll get Rin back, but if you pop in right now things could get messy. We don't want this to escalate again.

If Sendai ends up near Rin's body before we get there, that'll have to be a next vote thing.

Also, updated my base post with the new revision, though I left the older version struck out in case someone wants to stick with the original text.

vote changed accordingly.

Good God the vote keeps getting bigger.

Can someone who is not Cannon or Ugo summarize why giving Rin back her body is a good idea? Practical reasons aside, it just seems like something you wouldn't do until the meguca in question is definitely safe from harm.

She would be safe from harm just by Sabrina being there. We're not going to let her come to harm Cras.

Hmmm, I suppose. It's a risky situation that I personally wouldn't be comfortable with. Sakura especially makes me concerned. While I don't think UG is going to go "LOLFAKYU" and nuke Rin's gem, I'm concerned that Sakura teleporting in will result in an accident that ends up with Rin's gem falling off a roof or something. In addition, we don't know what state Rin's body is in. If she's missing her head or been impaled or something, it's probably not the best plan to move to restore her. As much as I like Rin, as long as her gem is stable then there are bigger issues at play here.

...That being said, has the vote done anything to check for Rin's Soul Gem's corruption level, as well as its rate of accumulation? I don't remember how Firn plays it, but I'd rather not risk the thing going nuclear.

I'll give it a try:
  • We don't want Sendai to come over right now and complicate the situation, having Rin be able to talk to them may help in that regard (may prevent Sakura from teleporting in etc.). If they know she is fine and we are vouching for her safety they are less prone to make rash decisions
  • Rin may be used as a sort of negotiator for Sendai without Akiko being actively there
  • The University girls are already wary of us and know we took down Ishinomaki without any real problems, i doubt they would attack us; they also know and respect Mami; Rin is safe with us
  • Asking about getting Rin her body back, shows us much about the University groups character and how they see us. It also helps us decide how to proceed and how to treat them.
  • We actually like Rin
  • (We could ask Rin about Kato Setsuki and why she was lying without Akiko around)
I agree that we should check Rin's corruption level and decide upon moving her body, after we see what state it is in.

Well, I guess the reigning decision from the thread is that I am, again, way too paranoid.

Thanks @Guilop, that was a good summary.

Will revert to [q] Popcorn then.

Can't know what to start trimming til the entire thing is in place. :)

Still, I'm trying to think of ways to condense it while still conveying the intent.

That's what the cautionary tell to Sakura is for.
In addition, we don't know what state Rin's body is in.
If it's in a bad state we may have to adjust our approach. However, given Yuko's reaction to Minami's neck being broken, I think it's unlikely she did any major damage to Rin before escaping with the soul gem.
That being said, has the vote done anything to check for Rin's Soul Gem's corruption level, as well as its rate of accumulation?
Not actively. We sensed all five of their gems when we arrived, but didn't note anything out of the ordinary. I'd think a heavily corrupted soul gem would be worth noting in the update without us needing to explicitly ask Firn about it.

Do you really think Sakura will listen though? Her capacity for "Fuck you I do what I want" is pretty damn high. I still think at least a cursory examination for any soul gem anomalies is important.

Re: Trimming: I would take a look at the details of what your vote is saying. As it is, I feel like you've made too many attempts to lock down Sabrina's behaviour here, and my limited experience with GMs lends me to expect such locking-down to backfire to at least some degree. A more flexible vote structure that allows for multiple things happening while retaining the same goal is better.

*Walks in after being gone two days*

12 pages and votes so long they could make some people feel inadequate. Good lord in heaven.

I'm hoping that her concern for Rin is strong enough that she'll hesitate before jumping in, given our warning, and that Akiko can solidify the restriction before things go pear-shaped.

On the other hand, Mami and Kirika still have their standing orders from last update to neutralize Sakura (and Sendai) if she ports in, so even in worst case I think we'll still be ok. Such an act may even give us a slight advantage in convincing the University girls to revive Rin.

Firn has said time and again, he's not against wall of text votes.

My bad then, my memory is poor.

Maybe... eh well whatever. I've voted for [q] Popcorn as it is, so whatever. We'll see how this goes.

Still not particularly happy with opening with a demand of a show of good faith, but still much better than the [very serious tone] vote.

Incidentally, we probably should not micromanage the dialogue like this in the future. It leads to votes with a length rivalling some story updates.

Hey, remember what happened the last time we tried to micromanage negotiations?

Hint: it starts with "s" and ends with "hitstorm"
