You know, if we wanted to give Homura a chance at a practical demonstration of her new outlook, there is something we could do right now that would give her the chance to reach out and reconnect. Namely, tell Mami about the witchbomb.

No, really. Sharing secrets, even bad ones, is how we've made progress recently, and I can think of no greater affirmation that our ideas are true then telling Mami everything, and using those ideas to keep her with us. Have Homura act on her new outlook, and provide Mami the comfort she needs alongside us. Do it right, and that learned helpless will be shattered forever.

I like the show of trust... but I feel like thats akin to letting a new Bomb Squad guy prove they know their stuff... by disarming an old Russian Suitcase nuke.

That's fair. We could let Sayaka in on the timeloops instead, it's much the same thing. The point is for Homura to succeed where she previously failed by reaching out and making connections just like we told her, and telling Sayaka everything is one of the ways she can do that. If you can think of any other practical lessons, please mention them so we can pick the best option.

Edit: To couch it more logical terms, science classes are a mix of lectures and labs. Theory and practical. Homura's had her theory, it's time for the practical. That it allows us to follow up on the idea that our own emotional distance is the biggest challenge we face is just gravy.

Anarcho-Megucan is, more likely than not, the "Fully Automated Luxury Gay Space Communism" meme taken seriously and to it's natural extreme. With of course, a crack being taken at hierarchies in general, hence the "anarcho-" modifier.

More specifically, the economic and political structure would be anarcho-syndicallist, I think. Sabrina's already thinking in terms of unions rather than communes. However, there'd also be more than a touch of mysticism, and maybe arrogance. The belief that the implementation is inevitable thanks to the "Fix Everything" wish, the belief that the very laws of reality should be bent to will of the people... there wouldn't be any argument concerning resource scarcity, because we're a shop, skip, and a jump away from post-scarcity as it is, thanks to magic. I dunno. I'm not a political scientist, but I think whatever political structures comes from Sabrina's efforts would be very interesting.

Use our imaginations, and plan on assiting with the rest of the problem - the silent half of the symptoms - Madoka. Both girls deserve to be healthy and independent. At the same time, they are linking to each other in a fundemental way - so making progress with one and not the other isn't a job well done. We need to dovetail "what to help Madoka with" and do that for best effect.

Make the lesson useful in concrete terms. This means encourage Homura to make a "who, where, when" goal of applying the ideas. Coach her as required. Offer her options that lead to "safe practice spaces" first.

No longer hiding behind roles and expectations is going to be uncomfortable and uncanny at first, but there are lots of normals she can practice with until she figures out her new pace.
Concluding that part of the talk deserves a good family moment. As much as it seems to be a trope for us, it really will be the right moment for contact/hug/bonding. The part of helping her that ISN'T an "explanation" powerfully derives from breaking the isolation, over and over each day. Along with Magic, Miracles and Braindamage, Sabrina can claim this as her wheelhouse.

We will have to check our "list" to make sure we aren't losing focus on other similar situations, once we have cleared here too.

This time we entered into useful territory, and gave her the start of something that will help.

There are plenty of anarchists who aren't communist, in the sense that they aren't fully on board with abolishing money. But all anarchists, except the ancaps who aren't anarchists, are socialists who want to put the means of production in the hands of the workers and to establish egalitarian decision making processes.

Some say the logical result of that must be communism, others disagree. All think the ancaps should be denied the label of anarchist because the ancap is fine with the hierarchical power of the boss.

[X] You've made massive progress today, that much is obvious, but us telling you stuff will only go so far. If we want your learned helplessness to go away and stay gone, lectures and fancy speeches can't cut it, as the doubts will slowly creep back in. You need to practice now. Open up to someone, anyone, just a little, and see if you can make another friend. Alternatively, we could bring Sayaka in and tell her about your past, if you're up for it. I know she's going to take it well, but knowing is not the same as showing.

Ok, here's my opening bid on a plan. Anyone got suggestions?

Might talk about it, while Mami is here, as she's probably the root source of Homura's fascination with it.

Kyouko: *shows up to Sabrina, Mami and Homura discussing ideal calibers for witch hunting.*

Sabrina keeps dismissing anything too small to load with a nuclear warhead.
 
I have been enjoying these talks with Homura and feel like it is almost complete. Perhaps it is time for a conclusion and changing topic to what is next on the agenda? (Homura hug should be top of the list followed by geeking out over firearms)

I know at this point in the quest we're not going to have Sabrina act OOC, but it'd be funny if we suddenly did.
