Ok, well, this took more time than I thought it would.

I present the return of the fluffy.

Nearly all the occupants in the bedroom were frozen (Save for the wriggling baby in Mami's arms, who was still happily giggling away.). Both Sabrina and Mami were processing that singular word over and over again, trying to process the full weight of that word and what it meant and failing repeatedly. Eventually, they were able to reboot their brains enough to process the word and come to a conclusion that they simultaneously arrived at. Mami and Sabrina looked at each other, astonishment showing on both their faces. Mami spoke first.

"S-Sabrina. She called me… mommy"

Sabrina finally was able to find her voice as well.

"Y-yeah. A-and she called me mommy too… "

Mami's breath finally returned to her.

"T-that means that this child is…"

Both eyes, one Golden and one Deep Blue, looked at the baby in wonder.

"…ours."

Both of them stood there, letting that statement sink in. Sabrina spoke first this time.

"W-wait a minute, how is that even possible?! The last I checked, both of us were girls!"

Mami bit her lip and looked down at the child. (who was busying herself with playing with Mami's ringlets) "W-well, magic HAS done some pretty amazing things…"

Sabrina looked over at Mami, a thoughtful expression on her face. "well, that IS true… But I don't know if it's capable of creating an infant from thin air… besides, what could we have done to create her?" Sabrina then shook her head "wait, wait, wait…aren't we overreacting a bit? I mean, the only proof we have is that the baby called us both 'mommy'. What if it just called us that because we're the first people to find it, or it just likes saying that word?"

"Mommy!" the baby said, seemingly proving Sabrina's point. It happily began twirling around one of the ringlets it was playing with.

Mami suddenly had a deflated look about her. "O-oh… That's a good point." She said, sadly.

Sabrina immediately noticed Mami's change in demeanor and went over to her. "Mami? I'm sorry, I didn't mean- "

Mami shook her head slightly and raised her head to look at Sabrina (The baby made a sad noise as its new toy was pulled out of her reach, before finding interest in the frills on Mami's outfit), and showed a sad smile. "I-it's ok, you make a good point. It's just…" A small hiccup came from Mami, as the beginnings of a few tears began forming in her eyes. "Ever since the accident where I lost my family, I had always wanted a little girl of my own, to give it the love and care that I have been missing since that accident. The life of a magical girl got in the way of that, but I still had hope that..." she trailed off as a few tears fell from her eyes and onto her shirt (The baby, sensing Mami's distress, also began to sniffle a little).

Sabrina immediately pulled Mami into a hug, being mindful of the small third person in the hug (who squeaked a little from the sudden pressure). "Mami, we can still take care of her as our own. We don't know who her parents are, or where she came from, but we can raise her like a proper family, give her the love you've always wanted to give your own daughter."

Mami looked at Sabrina, then down at the child, who was still sniffling from Mami's sadness. Mami looked around the room, then went and grabbed a small plushie she had (A cat plushie, Sabrina noted) and started playing with the child in her arms with it, a smile on her face as she did so. Sabrina watched the scene unfold and she saw for a brief moment a world in the future that never was realized, a world where Mami was a happy mother, playing with her beautiful daughter, both in a happy, wonderful home and with a wonderful family.

Mami turned to look at Sabrina with a happy smile, a now giggling baby in her arms. "Yes, I would like that very much. I… Thank you, Sabrina. Thank you so much."

Sabrina beamed widely at Mami. "Of course, Mami! ". Sabrina then looked at the clothing the baby was wearing. Namely, the lack thereof. "Um, I don't know what we're gonna do clothing-wise though. She can stay in the shirt tonight, but tomorrow we'll need to go to the store and get some."

Mami shook her head slightly." Oh, no need, I already have some old baby clothes in my closet from when I was her age. I know they're old, but I was keeping them for in case…" Mami suddenly looked sad again, before shaking her head and continuing on. "A-anyways, I can change her into those, then we'll cook dinner together?"

Sabrina replied happily "Yep! We'll have to go by the grocery store first, though. I don't think she can eat what we- "

"Well, this is an interesting development!"

Both Mami and Sabrina looked at the window, fully aware of who said that sentence. There was no mistaking that cutesy, too high-pitched voice.

Kyuubey stood in the window, tail waving lazily in the air behind him.

Sabrina felt an incandescent rage fill her being at the sight of the incubator. She could still feel the presence of a magical girl from the infant, meaning it was more than likely that the thing in front of her had decided to bring an infant into this system of his, apparently with the purpose of simply having it witch out because it's a baby, and magical girl or not, babies can't fight witches. He had also gone and made a happy moment into a sour one with his mere presence and would probably make the rest of today worse.

It was clear that Mami and the baby were having similar reactions, with the set frown and hardened gaze Mami had and the way she clutched the baby tighter to herself. The Baby, however, had a look of fear on its face as it somehow instinctively knew that whatever that white animal was, it was very dangerous. Sabrina responded to the incubator's statement first.

"Kyuubey. Interesting development? As in, interesting that we found the result of you turning an infant into a magical girl?"

Mami showed a quick look of fear at the statement but steeled her face again a split second later.

Kyuubey tilted his head, as if in a questioning look. "Infant magical girls? I have tried, but I cannot make human infants into magical girls, they do not have the potential necessary to do so"

Sabrina had conflicted thoughts. On one hand, the status of the child was not the result of Kyuubey. On the other hand, he's confirmed that if he could turn infants into magical girls, he would, so that brings him down a few hundred points in her book. "So then what is this interesting development?"

Kyuubey hopped onto Mami's bed, trying to get a better look at the babe currently in Mami's arms (who did not like the way he was staring at her at all.) "you two appear to have done something I had long thought impossible."

Sabrina and Mami shared a look, before turning to Kyuubey again. Remorseless ultracapitalist or no, Kyuubey was the best option they had for some answers right now. Mami replied, "And that would be…?"

"The creation of a naturally-born magical girl, of course!"

Both Sabrina and Mami froze at this statement and stood there for a few moments, all the while Kyuubey was staring intently at the infant (Who was very uncomfortable right now and starting to voice her displeasure with a few scared noises, clutching the cat plushie Mami had let go of as a safety device.). Sabrina spoke first, quiet trepidation in her voice.

"Wait… So that means… She's our daughter?"

Kyuubey broke his staring contest with the infant (who visibly relaxed with the incubators attention now off of her, and the death grip she had on the plushie lessened) and turned towards Sabrina. "While the mechanism for her birth is not normal for members of your species, she is indeed biologically both you and Mami Tomoe's offspring. Congratulations!" He said in a tone that was entirely too cheerful to be genuine.

Mami spoke next, tone full of hope of a thing she had long thought impossible and the daze of someone hearing they had just won a billion dollars. "She… She's my daughter? I… I-I'm a mother?"

"It appears so!" kyuubey replied.

While Mami had a look of freshly renewed hope growing across her face as she looked in wonder at the infant (who was now making little noises as she began to play with the cat plushie a bit), Sabrina had a small frown. "Wait… you said the mechanism for her birth was abnormal. How was she born? How can a baby be born to a magical girl couple?"

Kyuubey looked Sabrina in the eyes. "When a male human feels the need to mate-"

"NOT THAT KIND OF COUPLE!" Sabrina shouted, a blush growing on her face that she knew would pale in comparison the one Mami was almost certainly sporting. "I mean the ones between two magical girls!"

Kyuubey had the same look he always had, yet still had an air of false apology to it. "Apologies, that was an attempt at a joke. Normally a romantic relationship between two female members of a species will result in no offspring. This holds true for magical girls as well. However, what it appears that you two have done is connect both of your souls together and broke off a small part of each, which then cpmbined together and became its own separate entity. This appears to have happened when the both of you had your magic intertwine with each other."

Both girls' blushes grew brighter when they remembered the event that Kyuubey was talking about. When Sabrina had inserted her magic into one of Mami's ribbons, and she had done the same to Sabrina in return, both of them could feel the essence of the other. Their thoughts, personalities, feelings, all of it, was open for the other to see, to hear, to feel. At that moment, it had felt like their souls were touching.

If what the incubator said was true, then that would be a more literal statement then either of them had previously thought.

Sabrina then said, "but surely other girls have done the same thing in the past? Shouldn't they have had children, to?"

Kyuubey shook his head. "While you are correct that you are not the first magical girls to intertwine your souls, none of the others had parts of their souls break off to form a new being."

Sabrina frowned" Then what makes us so different? And how did she seem to pop out of thin air?"

"I don't know!" Kyuubey responded entirely too cheerfully. "That's why I'm here, to study the child and answer these questions" Kyuubey then looked intently at the child again, who stiffened at the sight of the thing staring at her again.

After a very uncomfortable silence that lasted 10 seconds (It felt like 10 minutes to those who weren't Kyuubey), Kyuubey did a mock sigh. "It seems that I won't be able to gather any more information from this child. Although it seems to have a greater understanding of human emotions and speech than regular infants of its age, all I can gather is that it is a magical infant. Perhaps if I observed the other instances- "Kyuubey then stopped himself and looked at the child with more intensity (who by now was starting to cry). He then said in his all-too-happy tone, "How peculiar! Even though this infant sems to be a magical girl already, it seems she still has enough potential to make a contract! Mami, Sabrina, if you wanted to- "

Kyuubey was stopped by a hand gripping the top of its skull with enough force to fracture it. The hand then brought kyuubey up to meet the level gaze of-

Mami Tomoe. Not Mami, The punctual schoolgirl and senpai to her peers. Not Mami, the girlfriend of Sabrina Vee and a person who was no longer alone. Not even Mami, the veteran magical girl who held Mitakihara single handedly for years.

This was Mami Tomoe the Mother. This was a Mami that wanted to share her love with her daughter, to care for her and see her grow up and accomplish great things. To give her the love that she had been missing since the death of her parents.

And she was pissed. The fuck. Off.

Mami's grip on Kyuubey tightened, feeling the breaking of its skull, and brought it closer to her face. She spoke five words, each said with the intensity of a hurricane.

"Stay. Away. From. my. Daughter."

And with that, Mami reeled her hand back, aimed at the window, and blasted Kyuubey out the window, a sonic boom following his body as it rocketed into the distance.

Sabrina stood stalk still from the scene. She had never in her few weeks of living ever seen Mami that angry before. She had known of the steel that Mami had shown in battle against witches, but this was different. This was raw, instinctual anger that thousands before her had felt, an anger born of total and complete love for another. The anger of a mother protecting her child.

And Sabrina knew this because she felt exactly the same. Had Mami not beaten her to the punch, she would have literally disintegrated the incubator, throw so much raw grief at it that it would drown in it. A thing she was still planning to do if she ever saw it again.

Mami now stood in front of the window, slightly hunched over the child, anger quickly leaving her. She stood still, not an inch moving. The baby had by now stopped crying and was silent as well.

Sabrina, now filled with worry, moved over to Mami. "M-Mami? What's wrong?"

"…Daughter...". Mami's body now started to shake.

Sabrina was now more worried and slightly confused. "I-I'm sorry, what was- "

"…Have…daughter..." Mami's shaking was more pronounced now.

"I-I still couldn't hear- "

"We have a daughter."

Mami's head lifted to meet Sabrina's eyes. Her eyes now had an expression of pure, unaltered Joy that was quickly spreading to her face.

"We have a daughter, we have a daughter, we have a daughter!!!"

Mami leaped into Sabrina's arms and wrapped her free arm around her in a tight hug, Both Mami and the baby laughing with glee. Sabrina staggered back from the love-tackle, before regaining her balance and embracing both Mami and the baby- no, her daughter- in a loving hug. Mami held Sabrina and the baby tight, tears of joy streaming down her face at the miracle that had happened. Mami kept speaking to Sabrina through the hug, voice high with the emotion of joy and love.

"Oh Sabrina! Oh, you wonderful, wonderful girl Sabrina! Thank you, thank you, thank you!". Sabrina could feel the love and joy that Mami was feeling through the hug and was please in the realization that she was feeling the same. Sabrina had never actually thought about having a family of her own, she was too busy trying to break the system the incubators put in place. She had simply assumed that she would settle in with Mami, and be together and love each other, but she had never imagined that a child she could call her own would be part of that.

Now however… looking down at her daughter, she could feel a warm feeling building in her core at the sight of the child, which grew at the giggling happiness the child was showing with the contact with her two mothers. The cat plushie long forgotten about, the child began playing with Sabrina and Mami's hair, seeming to try and compare both to her own and giggling all the while. Sabrina then began to lightly tickle the child, who emitted a gleeful squeal at the contact.

Yeah, Sabrina thought, this is much better than anything I had planned.

The three stayed like that for a while, the only sounds in the room being Mami's laughter and the baby's giggling. Eventually, Mami calmed down from her high, though joy still showed in every movement she made. Separating from Sabrina a bit, she beamed at Sabrina with one of the most joyful smiles Sabrina had ever seen.

"Sabrina, I… This is the most amazing thing that could have ever happened to us!". Mami then looked at her daughter in wonder, who was still giggling from the Sabrina tickles. "A family… I have a family again!"

Sabrina smiled at Mami. "Yeah. A daughter. This is… really big. "Sabrina stuck her hand out to her daughter, still not believing that the baby in Mami's arm that was theirs, could even be possible, but there it was. The baby grabbed hold of Sabrina's fingers and started playing with them with a surprisingly strong grip for a baby of her age. The baby looked at Sabrina and said again, "Mommy!"

Sabrina smiled down at the child and bent over a little to play with her. "Yes, I'm your mommy! "Sabrina sweetly said. She then leaned down to give her a kiss on the cheek, which she giggled with delight at receiving. Sabrina then looked at Mami. "And here's your other mommy! Mami!"

Mami giggled at the pun. "Oh, Sabrina…" she said fondly. They sat like that for a few moments, drinking in the warmth of the new revelation in their lives. From now on, it would no longer just be the two of them. From now on, there would be days where the apartment was filled with the laughter of a happy child, and the laughter of her loving parents. They knew that the future would be bright, and that all would be right in the world. No matter what happened, no matter what witch, magical girl, or evil little white creatures went after them, they would see it through. For as long as the light of their child's smile existed, they would fight on.

Sabrina suddenly had a thought. "hmmm… Since she's new and all, I don't think she has a name."

Mami pondered a bit as well. "well, should we give her one now?"

Sabrina smiled. "Sure! Umm… do you have any suggestions? Since this has been a dream for you for a while, I think you should have the honor of naming her."

Mami pondered a bit, before saying. "Well… I haven't ever given it much thought because I thought it would never happen…"

They both sat there a bit, contemplating, before they noticed that the afternoon sun was shining through the window and blinding them a bit. Sabrina went to close the blinds, taking a quick look back at Mami as she did so.

That's when she saw it. The sun reflected off the baby's hair in such a way that it practically glowed. Bright electrum gave way to deep golden yellows and brilliant hues of white , all flowing and coexisting together, before coming to a point at the end of her ponytail, where it glowed the brightest color of silvery-yellow she had ever seen. Mami had noticed what Sabrina was looking at and was mesmerized at the colors flowing through her daughter's hair. The child herself seemed ignorant of this, and continued to entertain herself by playing with Mami's hair again (which seemed lackluster compared to the literally shining gold the child had)

Sabrina went and closed the window and the blinds, and with the lack of sunlight the Baby's hair reverted to its normal colors. Sabrina then turned and said "Well that was… Beautiful and weird. Wonder what that was- "

"Yoko."

Sabrina stopped talking to process that Mami had just spoke. "Huh?"

Mami smiled at Sabrina before turning back to the child. "Her name is Yoko."

Sabrina processed the meaning of the word. Sunlight. Appropriate, she thought. The baby was a ray of sunshine shining directly into their lives now, making it brighter just with her very presence. "I think that's a wonderful name, Mami!" Sabrina went over to Mami and started playing with the newly named Yoko again. "Yoko. Our little Yoko."

Sabrina continued the moment for a bit, but it ended when Sabrina started to remember what they were about to do before kyuubey interrupted. "Umm, Mami? We still need to go to the store to get some baby food for her, I'm sure she's going to get hungry soon.". Yoko's stomach seemed to agree with Sabrina's statement, and Yoko voiced her displeasure at the noise and started crying. Mami picked up the plushie and started playing with her, calming her down a bit. Mami looked at Sabrina with an apologetic smile. "Umm, would you mind going without me? I think bringing a fussy baby into a store might be a bit rude. I'll go ahead and dress her while you're gone.".

Sabrina nodded and gave a V-for-Victory sign. "Of course! I'll be back before you know it!". Before heading for the bedroom door. She had nearly gotten through the door when she remembered an important detail that made her pause. "Hold on… I just noticed something."

Mami became slightly concerned at Sabrina's pause. "What is it?"

"Before Kyuubey got blasted into Hokkaido (Mami blushed at this) , He mentioned something about 'seeing the other instances'. What could that mean?"

Mami thought about it for a bit "well, If he was here to investigate Yoko, then that would mean- "Mami suddenly had a mixed expression of "eureka!" and "Oh, crap!"

Sabrina caught on and had a similar expression "Wait, does that mean there are other-?!"

'Just so you know, I blame you entirely for this'

'SABRINA WHAT IN THE NAME OF CHRIST HAVE YOU DONE?!'

'Sabrina, Madoka has a second sibling.'

Sabrina jumped at the inclusion of three voices, one calm and collected, one screaming like an angry elephant, and the last one a spectacular mix of forced apathy and pure panic. After calming her heart, she responded. 'Oriko? Kyouko? Homera? What's going on?'

I have to create a part 3 because if I added it to this one it would have been too long. As it is this thing took up 7 pages in word.

It won't be posted until after this upcoming update, though. I can't work that fast and I don't wanna give poor Firn more things he has to post.

I'm gonna ignore the cute (absolutely diabeetus causing work, my good sir) to point something out.

I was reading some of the older episodes. Point Insertion Pt. 11
"Ung," Sayaka mutters, going cross-eyed. "Whoa."

You stop immediately. "You OK?"

"Uh, yeah," Sayaka says. "Just feels weird. I can feel... you, I guess, kind of... pulling?"

One side of my head is laughing, the other is extremely worried, and there's a little piece that is saying something along the lines of: SABRINA!
GOOD EVENING QUESTERS OF PMAS

Tonight I have a QUESTION for you

I'm not gonna lie. When I wrote what I wrote I did it in complete ignorance of that particular line and I am trying my very hardest not to laugh right now.

I'll be honest, I wasn't planning to do anything with the prospect of a Sabrina/Sayaka baby, but now the idea is in my head and I don't know what to do with it.

I have a gigantic, shit eating grin plastered on my face, because I'm not sure if I should be smug about finding this, or just laugh.

Oh what the hell, I'm gonna pull off my best Oujo impression (is there a male equivalent? I dunno), and laugh smugly.

As for what to do with the idea... I dunno, part 3 little snippets, maybe?

Dunno. The baby was gonna be Sayaka and Kyouko's due to a training accident, but maybe a bit of Sabrina can be added in?

I won't know for sure until I actually get to sit down and write it out.

Side note, I'd imagine Sayaka and Kyouko trying to raise a baby together would be like two racoons trying to drive a semi through an Arby's drive-thru

"Okay, you know what? Sure, magic babies, why not. Heck, it's not the wierdest thing about this!"

"Then, what is it?"

"IT'S THE FACT THAT SHE LOOKS LIKE YOU! HIGH CHEEK BONES, AND SOME WHITE LOCKS HERE AND THERE, I MEAN WHAT THE EVER LOVING FU-"

"I am an inconsiderate idiot, I am so sorry, Mami, I didn't intend for this to happen-"

Also, I can see that image perfecly, to be honest. Again, Yuma would have to pull heavy duty, not only as the most logical of the two, but as the Responsible Aunt.

I think Firn often updates monday mornings, right? I know that isn't a guarantee, and really I prefer they do it when its ready, but I did want to mention that it can be a highlight to a otherwise stressful day. So thank you @Firnagzen .

Lowlife pt. 23
Mami wraps her arm around your waist, insistently butting her head under your chin and curling close. You exhale slowly, listening to the sounds of the wind curling past and the distant cacophony of the city as you wrap your arm around her.

"I'm OK," you mutter, and then, louder, "I'm OK. Just... ugh. Why are people like this?"

"People're people, princess," Kyouko grunts. You hear plastic crinkling as she unwraps something. "And people really suck."

Your nose is assaulted by the smell of peppermint, and you open your eyes to find Kyouko waving a packet of mints at you. You sigh, nod your thanks at her, and collect a few to share with Mami.

"Alright. Forget about them, they're Miss Tsuruya's responsibility for the moment," you say, poking the sweet into your cheek so you can speak clearly. You shake your head, returning to what's important, and you return to their sides. Mami separates from you to kneel beside one of them, gently taking her wrist to check her pulse. Gently, you prop them all up into inclined sitting positions with Grief.

"I spoke to the Iowa girls." You speak in Burmese, the rapid, tonal syllables rolling easily off your tongue as you look around, meeting the trio of local's eyes in turn. "I... well, they weren't cooperative, but we're going to get to the bottom of this. You're going to be ok."

"Thank you," one of them whispers to you. "Thank you. We... we thought we were dead."

"You're not," you say firmly. "And... I'm sorry. I don't think we've introduced ourselves. I'm Sabrina Vee, this is Mami Tomoe..." You go around the circle of your friends, indicating and introducing everyone in turn. Kyouko, Yuma, Mika, Kazumi, and Kaoru, the latter frowning at the Burmese girls with a preoccupied look.

"We're from Japan, but we're here to help," you finish. "May I know your names?"

"I'm Ta Kaung Chien," the girl in the middle says. She's a lean looking girl, whipcord strength and long blue hair that reaches to her midback - the oldest of the group, you think, the darker skin of her face perhaps a bit more weathered than her probable sisters'.

"I'm Pa Kaung Min," the girl on her left says. The youngest of the trio, slender like the others, but with perhaps more muscle and a more generous figure.

"And I'm Cho Kaung Sa," the last girl adds. Somewhere in between, you suspect, perhaps about your age, with her hair in the messy remains of a pair of braids.

"Alright... well, it's good to meet you, but I wish it could have been under better circumstances," you say with a slight wince. "We'll get you out of this. I... are there any friends or relatives you need us to look in on?"

You get silence in response, and that is its own answer. You can feel your stomach sinking, met with more anger.

"I... I'm sorry for your loss," you say. Mami touches your elbow gently, warm concern on her face as you look over. You force yourself to relax, and focus on the here and now.

The burmese girls are holding up, and you're going to help them. That's what's important. Keeping their Soul Gems clean is trivial, and so you focus on that as you rack your brain trying to figure it out. The red one... their healer must have done something, but you're not sure what. Yuma's healing didn't get it, so what does that leave?

"Mami, you're sure it's not a magical effect?" Kazumi asks.

"It isn't a persistent magical effect, no," Mami says with a shake of her head. "And there... doesn't seem to be anything obviously wrong with them."

"Should've kept Umi up here," Kazumi grumbles. "I bet she'd figure this out in a second."

"Ah... I think I have an idea, actually?" Kaoru ventures, stepping forward and joining you in kneeling beside Ta Kaung Chien. "Um, may I use my magic on them?"

You translate for her, and get slightly nervous agreement from the trio. Kaoru nods, offering up a smile, and rests her hand gently on the girl's forehead, frowning as she gathers her magic.

"Yuma," Kaoru murmurs as she works. "How does your magic work?"

"My magic heals people!" Yuma says. "Uhm... Yuma just thinks, and the magic works by itself?"

"Right..." Kaoru says. "OK, thank you."

Kazumi joins Kaoru, bending their heads together in quiet, murmured conversation.

"We're ready for you to release the anchor, Miss Vee," Yuki murmurs into your mind.

"Gotcha," you say, frowning slightly in thought. You lean over the edge of your flight platform, peering at the city below, and more specifically, at Yuki's claimed office complex. You shift mental gears to address all of your friends. "Everyone, I'm releasing the interdiction so the Iowa captain can dismiss the ship. Miss Tsuruya has them secured, but let's all keep an eye out."

You sweep your eyes about the platform, looking to each of your friends. Mika grins and takes to the skies again, the winds roaring to life around her and snatching at her robes as she soars towards the disassembled bulk of the Iowa.

"On zero. Three, two, one- zero."

You unravel the Grief construct with a thought, tense and alert. And yet, a moment later, you watch as the Iowa starts to wink out of existence, part after part, plate by plate and bolt by bolt from keel to antennas. You can't help but worry a little, that they might attempt an attack from within whatever holding measures Yuki applied... but then, you trust her competence.

"She says it's done," Yuki says to you. "Can you confirm?"

"I confirm," you say, sweeping nanofog through the volume previously occupied by the Iowa. "It's gone."

"Hm. Good, then," Yuki says. "I suppose they must, with their Soul Gems in our possession."

"Right. We're working on it, but if you can find out how they paralyzed the local girls, it could be helpful?" you say. "And Sayaka, it was Red - grab a copy of her powers as soon as possible and maybe tag Umika to see if you can figure anything out?"

"I was planning on it, yes," Yuki responds. "I'll update you when I've made progress."

"Gotcha," Sayaka says.

You debate asking her to tell them that you didn't capture them just to execute them, that she should keep them separate from each other and unable to coordinate a story, to drill for information, but-

The heck with it.

Yuki probably knows what she's doing better than you do, and she can do it without your micromanaging. You've got other things to handle.

"Madoka, Hitomi?" you call, watching as Mika lands back on your platform. She looks to Kyouko, inquisitive look on her face, but Kyouko just shakes her head slightly and glances over to you.

"Oi, Sabrina," Kyouko drawls. "We need to have a talk."

A talk... ah, yes. Nakano Mika, of Nakano Corporation. About the Sakura church, you suppose - you can't think of anything else, in any case.

"Yuma too?" you ask.

"Y' need her here, dontcha?" Kyouko says, ruffling Yuma's hair.

"Sabrina!" Madoka says, anxious and concerned. "Is everyone OK?"

"We're all OK!" you respond, trying to infuse reassurance and calm into your voice. "Nobody was hurt - well, none of us, anyway. The fighting and the dangerous parts are over, we're just making sure the locals are OK and finishing up before coming back. How are you? And Nagisa?"

You nod at Kyouko, acknowledging the implicit request for an excuse. "Yeah, most likely," you say. "We need her healing. Alright, off you go, then..."

With a thought, you bubble off a small platform for Kyouko and Mika, sending it drifting off for their conversation.

"We're OK too," Madoka says. "Ah... Nagisa's a little disappointed that you had to leave, but she's still enjoying herself. Did you know that there's a cheese store at Shimachi?"

"... oh, no," you say solemnly.

Madoka giggles in response.

"Will you be back soon?" Hitomi asks. "Shall I cancel the message?"

You bite your lip thoughtfully. "I... how much longer do we have?"

A pause, presumably as Hitomi checks your phone.

"Ten minutes before it auto-sends," Hitomi says.

"Iiiii will update you as soon as possible," you say. "I mean, now that we've finished up the fight, we should have a... relatively finite time to get back."

"I'll keep an eye on the clock then," Hitomi says. "Good luck?"

"Yeah, thanks," you say, slightly distracted as a thought occurs to you. If Kaoru's idea doesn't pan out, you may have a solution to help the local girls here. You sit down yourself, crossing your legs, and then blink as you realise you don't have anything to work with.

"What is it, Sabrina?" Mami asks, smiling at you as she joins you.

"Enchanting," you say. "Um... do you have something I could enchant?"

"Mmm..." Mami says, humming. A twist of her hand disgorges a teacup into her hand from thin air - empty, this time. "Will this do?"

"Yes, but you probably won't get it back?" you say.

"That's fine," Mami says, chuckling quietly. "We have more back home, anyway, and I never did get around to refilling this."

She holds it out, dangling it by the handle from her finger... along with the Clear Seed you'd given her, held in the palm of her hand. When you blink at it, she gives you a sunny, warm smile, just a hint of a worried edge. You smile, closing your hand over hers.

"You're silly," you murmur.

"For you, Sabrina?" she murmurs back. "I am."

"We shouldn't keep them waiting," you say, smiling and taking both. "But... believe me, Mami. That's not something you have to worry about."

"Even so," Mami says.

And there's nothing you can say to that. So instead, you pocket the Clear Seed, and turn your attention to the teacup, splitting it along its rim to form several large rings. You take a moment to polish the rings, and pass one back to Mami before you settle back in to enchanting.

And even as you focus on channeling your magic, you have enough time for another telepathic conversation.

"Nadia? Do you have a moment?" you call in darija.

"Sabrina?" Nadia's voice immediately brightens. "What news do you have for me on this fine day?"

"Well... we took down Iowa," you say. "They were scrying us, so we, uh, paid them a visit."

Silence.

"Nadia?" you ask.

"Apologies, Sabrina," Nadia says, mental voice bubbling with laughter. "I had to, ah, calm myself."

"... I guess," you say. "So, uh, yeah. We're probably going to imprison them, but I wanted to check with you - how many of them are they, as of your latest info on them?"

"Nine of them, I'd heard," Nadia says. "As of three months ago."

"... huh," you say. "We fought ten."

"I suppose they've recruited since then," Nadia says with an audible shrug.

"Yeah, that's true," you agree, frowning thoughtfully. You do rather wonder whether all of those girls are there willingly, but that's something that you've left to Yuki to find out, you suppose. "Alright. If you're after any details, we can talk later, if not, uh... do you know anything about the team in Mandalay?"

"Nothing recent," Nadia says. "You've moved ahead of me, I haven't been there in a year. The last I heard, the team there fell apart about seven months ago."

"Ah, right," you say. "I... don't think that's the same team here now, but thanks."

"I'll come through there soon enough," Nadia says, sounding deeply amused. "But you'll know more than I do until then."

"Gotcha, gotcha," you say. "Alright, thanks. Uh... anything else?"

"No, thank you for the update," Nadia says, and ends the call.

A relatively new team, and all sisters, at that. And then Iowa dropped in on their heads. You can't help but suspect that Kyuubey's had a hand in their shenanigans, and you can't help but feel like this sort of casual cruelty is right up its alley.

It turns out that the Iowa group did have a clairvoyant, but a seemingly limited one. Mitakihara's a long way to travel for their next target, and yet, this entire mess was precipitated by their actions. True, word of you might have already made it to their ears, but you might also guess at expedited news.

Hah. You're building alliances in response, so joke's on it.

"I think I've figured it out," Kaoru mutters. "Yuma, I might need you to help me fix this."

"Good work, Kaoru!" Kazumi cheers, rocking back on her heels with a bright grin.

Kaoru glances up at you, normally-cheery face solemn and twisted in concentration.

"Their nerves are all messed up," Kaoru says. "She's... made it so that they think they're in a natural state, but they're not. Like, you know how nerve damage doesn't heal naturally most of the time? Like that, sort of, but..." Kaoru flutters her free hand. "I think that's why Yuma's magic didn't get it, at first."

She grimaces, the orange glow of her magic flickering around her fingers. "I can't heal as quick as a full healer can, so I think I can undo what she did, but Yuma, you're going to have to follow up quickly to heal them properly, OK?"

"You're sure?" you say.

"Reasonably sure, yeah," Kaoru says.

"I'll check with them, then," you say, and shuffle over to the girls, looking each of them in the eye as you translate Kaoru's words.

"Try it on me," Ta Kaung Chien says immediately.

"No!" Pa Kaung Min says. "You can't do that, we already-"

"Try it on me," Ta Kaung Chien demands. The eldest of the sisters.

You bite your lip, looking to Kaoru. "You're... sure about it?"

"As sure as I can be," Kaoru says, nodding firmly.

"Right," you say, shifting to burmese and gently cutting across the argument. "Everyone, please, uh- Kaoru knows what she's doing. Plus we have Yuma here, who's a dedicated healer, and we can bring in another healer if we need."

They're quiet for a moment before Ta Kaung Chien speaks again, insistent.

"Let me go first," she whispers. "Please. Let me do this."

You nod slowly.

"Kaoru?" you murmur. "This is Ta Kaung Chien. She's volunteered to try this first."

"... oh, really," Kaoru grumps. "This isn't some super-experimental technique- I mean it is, but I'm sure." She walks around, taking the girl's hand. "Yuma, are you ready?"

"Yuma's ready!" Yuma says.

"Then here we go," Kaoru says, gathering her magic.

A flare of orange light, then green, and...

Ta Kaung Chien bolts upright, slapping at her arms and whimpering as she curls on her side.

"That hurts-" Her eyes widen. "O-oh! I-" She uncurls slightly, staring at her hands, then at her sisters, then Kaoru. "I'm OK, I'm- T-thank you. Thank you."

"Don't thank me yet," Kaoru says, guessing correctly even through the language barrier. "Yuma, ready for the others?"

"Yeah!" Yuma says.

You can only watch, smiling, as Kaoru and Yuma repeat the process for the other two, both of them working together easily. And you watch as three bodies go from lying as still as corpses to a crying, hugging pile of intermingled relief and sorrow.

"Let's give them a moment," you suggest quietly, nudging your friends back. "And probably get out of the sky, too."

"Yeah," Kazumi murmurs, tugging Kaoru back. "Good work, Kaoru."

"And you too, Yuma," you say, giving her a smile as you retreat to the far end of the Grief platform. Slowly, you start lowering the disc, descending towards Yuki's claimed building below.

"Sabrina?" Hitomi murmurs. "You've got just over a minute to decide. Cancel, yes or no?"

[] Cancel the message, commit to heading back as soon as possible
[] Leave it be - regrettably, this might take some time
[x] Vote in abeyance
[] Write-in (word count limit: 150 words)

[X] Explain who you all are. Make sure they're okay, and offer any help they might need, both immediate healing/cleansing and more long term aid.
-[X] Ask if they're willing to talk about themselves and what happened, including whether the lost anyone.
-[X] Offer partially/fully cleared seeds (their preference) to help them get back on their feet if they want it.

I decided to drop Nadia's 'fimti' thing, since you were speaking in darija. Consider it translation convention.

Incidentally, I think I got the locals' names right, but if anyone has a correction to offer, I'll happily take it.

Well done, Iowa crew! You burned any minor amount of forgiveness helping with the local girls might have earned you out of spite, and it didn't change anything! Gg, gg.

"Well... we took down Iowa," you say. "They were scrying on us, so we, uh, paid them a visit."

Silence.

"Nadia?" you ask.

"Apologies, Sabrina," Nadia says, mental voice bubbling with laughter. "I had to, ah, calm myself."

"WHAT THE FUCK DOES SHE MEAN THEY TOOK DOWN IOWA?!" Nadia screams into the window as the train passes through the countryside.

She already can feel insane laughter building up inside.

"So. Much. Bullshit."

Anyway. Firnagzen? Eye colors? Keikaku? Yes or no?

"I... I'm sorry for your loss,[/i]" you say.
Borked formatting on the italics.
"Iiiii will update you as soon as possible," you say.
Um...did you mean to hold down the i key there?

I say don't cancel the message. Helping the hostages and deciding what to do with Iowa should take full priority here. Yes, it will take a while, but better that than leaving the job half done and needing to come back later.

Hunh, so healing can, in fact, muck with bodies' natural states. Glad that was handled.

I suppose that also explains why most girls never heal themselves young: They just hit that wall of how things are "supposed" to be and don't think to look deeper.

I needs lookit that text... I'm inclined to let it through... But what I really want to do is redraft it, I think...

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! UPDATE!!!!

Ah yes, the vote.

[X] Leave it be- Regrettably, this might take some time.

There is simply too much to do, and we need to take our time with interacting with the hostages so we can learn more about what has been happening and what Iowa was doing, so we can better understand what we should do with them punishment-wise. Also, diplomacy with the locals would mean new people to talk to/ ally with.

I'll let others decide the rest.

Nope, not gonna vote. My thought processes regarding Iowa are in the level of "gem them, atomize the bodies" so nope.

"We'll get you out of this. I... are there any friends or relatives you need us to look in on?"

You get silence in response, and that is its own answer. You can feel your stomach sinking, met with more anger.

"I... I'm sorry for your loss,[/i]" you say.
Extra italics tag there.

Also, I think at the very least we should leave them some money and a clear seed. They're probably homeless and penniless after Iowa went through their family.

I'd offer that we take them to Mitakihara for a while but I don't think they can communicate with anyone there at all aside from Sabrina.

"Yeah, that's true," you agree, frowning thoughtfully. You do rather wonder whether all of those girls are there willingly, but that's something that you've left to Nadia to find out, you suppose. "Alright. If you're after any details, we can talk later, if not, uh... do you know anything about the team in Mandalay?"

Shouldn't this be Yuki since she is one interrogating the Iowa girls to find these things out?

Alright, so some questions for the plan makers, to set the tone.

1. Are we going to be spending "resources" (time, grief, and so on) redeeming the Iowa girls, especially given this latest horror show?

2. Since we'll need to imprison them anyway, is it possible to devise a quick and dirty "magical girl penal code", which will likely involve something similar to the Oriko redemption project?
I'm specifically talking soul gem containment/house arrest or parole depending on their life circumstances.

3. Do we need to prioritise the battleship projection girl for Walpurgisnacht parole, given that 2 is realised in some form?

For context, here is the message.

Mr. Momoe, this is Sabrina. I apologise, but a major problem's come up that I need to sort out. I've arranged with Madoka to accompany Nagisa and that she'll get back to you, and if all else fails, Mr. Kaname will pick Nagisa up, along with Madoka. Hitomi and Sayaka will be staying with Nagisa too. I'm deeply sorry.

So a healer magical girl whose self image is somehow stuck as a young child might actually heal themselves young?
